This weeks fascinating and fun episode of Synthetic Dreams features legendary singer and songwriter, Andy BellAndy, who is one half of synth-pop duo, Erasure, talks to me about his new solo album ‘Ten Crowns' which comes out on May 2nd, via Crown Recordings The album was co-written and produced by Grammy winning US producer and DJ, Dave Audé, who is supporting Andy on his forthcoming UK tour, which starts next month. As well as featuring the excellent single, and one of my favourite tracks on the album, ‘Breaking Thru the Interstellar' The album also features a truly wonderful collaboration with Debbie Harry from Blondie. A match made in pop heaven for sure!So great to finally have Andy on the podcast. Fair to say that Erasure are one of the greatest, and most successful, synth-pop duos of all-time, so it was a real honour to have him on the show. Was great to hear him talk with such passion about his new record, which is brilliant from start to finish and well worth checking out ANDY BELL 'BREAKING THRU THE INTERSTELLARANDY BELL 'DON'T CHA KNOW'ANDY BELL 2025 TOURPRE-ORDER 'TEN CROWNS'

These were the years that saw dance music shifting dramatically, with the big room circuit style starting to cool off just as Electro House began rising from the underground and taking over mainstream dance floors. But the evolution wasn't one-dimensional. This era ushered in a diverse set of trends that helped shape the sound of modern dance. It was the rise of remix royalty like Freemasons, Moto Blanco, and Cahill. Each brought their own distinct flair to the genre. Freemasons blended traditional House with Electro influences, Moto Blanco leaned deep into shimmering Disco House, and Cahill straddled both worlds with a clean, pop-forward edge. Their remixes were everywhere—especially for big-name artists. Back then, the bigger the artist, the more labels were willing to shell out for high-profile remixers. That is, until budgets began shrinking and labels stopped cutting those massive checks. Fast-forward 15 years, and platforms like SoundCloud changed the game again. Suddenly, bootleg remixes became marketing tools, not just club exclusives. DJs had to hustle to make a name for themselves—often remixing tracks for free in the hopes of being discovered or landing a record deal. A Remix Renaissance During this same stretch, a powerhouse of remixers emerged and defined the dancefloor. Bimbo Jones, Seamus Haji, Soul Seekerz, Wideboys, Dave Audé, Jody den Broeder, and a revitalized StoneBridge (whose roots go back to the '90s) were dropping fire left and right. Meanwhile, some of the biggest names from the big room era still held their ground. Chris Cox (post-Thunderpuss), Ralphi Rosario, Tony Moran, Johnny Vicious, and DJ Escape kept delivering heavy, floor-shaking anthems that balanced out the sleeker, more polished productions coming from the Electro and Disco House scenes. This blend of sounds made for one of the most diverse periods in dance music—something we haven't quite seen repeated since. A Pop Diva Takeover The pop landscape at the time wasn't sitting quietly either. Britney Spears was staging a massive comeback, Beyoncé and Rihanna were dominating charts globally, and Robyn was redefining what electro-pop could be. Their tracks became essential remix material and ruled dance floors from coast to coast. We've packed both volumes of this series with heavy doses of these queens because, frankly, they owned this era. Now, if you're looking for a broader reflection of each year's biggest dance anthems,

On this week's episode of Rooted Recovery Stories, Patrick sits down with good friend and singer songwriter Cody Belew! Blending raw emotion with Southern stomp, Cody Belew offers a unique point of view on faith and love – both of which he approaches with fearless honesty. Coming off PRIDE week, Cody and Patrick discuss the embodiment of community and the importance of always knowing your neighbors. Cody shares his experience growing up gay in the Church and how it has impacted his religious journey. He dives into the inspiration behind his music and the wisdom he's learned in not dimming your light for others. Visit https://www.CodyBelew.com/ to get tickets, find Cody's new releases and more! Cody's first full-length record I Did It For Love will release on September 20th - see more about his inspiration for the album below! His next single is titled "Long, Long Row" and will be out on July 19th! The most recent single, "Horseshoes & Hand Grenades," released in May. Cody made a splash at this year's CMT Awards. Attaching our release, which you'll also note links to all of his social accounts/artist profiles! Assembling a mix of candid originals and well-loved classics by artists who inspired him, Cody Belew released his self-titled debut EP in early 2022 via Visionary Media. That same year had Belew reimagining the Brooks & Dunn classic “Neon Moon '' with Grammy Award-winning producer, Dave Audé, which recently surpassed three million Spotify streams. Belew kicked off 2023 as a member of CMT's coveted “Listen Up” program, which counts Kacey Musgraves, Thomas Rhett, and Marren Morris among its alumni, and saw the release of his single “Charlene,” which chronicled his experienced religious trauma as a Southern Baptist within the LGBTQ+ community. His star is rapidly rising with the recent release of the title track “I Did It For Love'' from his debut album due out later this year. A long-time Nashville resident, Cody recently completed a yearlong, sold-out residency at the city's famed Lipstick Lounge and wowed crowds at the new hotspot The Eighth Room with his impassioned vocals, deft songwriting, and undeniable stage presence. Cody has been highlighted in WWD and Vanity Fair for his distinctive fashion sense and profiled by NBC and Billboard. Cody's Inspiration for I Did It For Love: “Until the day I moved away from home, pointing my truck toward Nashville with all my belongings in tow, getting to Music City had been my singular mission. Ten years in, and I found myself writing about home, and family ties, and what sacrifices it took to get here. I wrote this with arenas in mind. I have christened this sound ‘Southern Glam Rock' as I find myself embodying that intersection- those two truths. We would love to hear from you! A rich compilation of some of the biggest dance hits from 2003 to 2004, this offering is a must for any dance music enthusiast, featuring unedited epic tracks allowing you to relive the era of massive remixes. One standout DJ/producer from this era encapsulated in this Top 2000s Dance Music Classics collection is Dave Audé, a preferred choice for remix production. With an abundance of rock remixes from artists like Jacques Lu Cont, Thin White Duke, Les Rythmes Digitales (a.k.a. Stuart Price), Jason Nevins, and Lindbergh Palace, this set offers a diverse mix of genre hits. Interestingly, all these remix artists have worked with Madonna at some point, with Stuart Price being instrumental in producing "Confessions On a Dance Floor" and leading her "Confessions Tour". This Top 2000s Dance Music Classics volume also showcases other noteworthy DJ/producers like Gabriel & Dresden and Junkie XL, recognized for their progressive remixes that harmoniously blend Trance music with rock-dance. The period also saw the rise of Electro House, with Benny Benassi's remix of Goldfrapp's "Strict Machine" and his debut single "Satisfaction" pioneering the genre into mainstream popularity. While Electro House was gaining prominence during this period, Party Favorz hasn't overlooked the underground hits from genres like Trance, Progressive House, and House music. However, most of the mainstream hits are reserved for our 'Top Dance Songs of the Year' series. We are geared up to release Volume 3 of the Top 2000s Dance Music Classics mid-week, followed by a final volume next weekend. Expect some Disco House and Peak Hour tunes to keep the party vibe alive. So, don't wait! Dive into the memorable sounds of 2003-2004 with Party Favorz's 'Top 2000s Dance Music Classics' Volume 2! Until the next time...ENJOY! We had the pleasure of interviewing CHLSY over Zoom video.Nashville-based group CHLSY recently release their new single “555” from their new EP Quantum Entanglement. From the inception of the band in July of 2021, Gilliland and her bandmates strive to reignite 90's sounds with their own modern “dark rock” spin and make music for others to feel seen. She has been working alongside GRAMMY® winning producer with 135+ billboard hits, Dave Audé and co-writing with David “DQ” Quiñones, Chloe Lattanzi, Rachel Levin, and has received accolades including recipient to the John Lennon Songwriting Award in 2017. CHLSY has grown its loyal social media fan base to nearly 83.7K followers and will be supporting Nashville-based rock band The Criticals on tour this July as they refine their live show and finish their self-produced debut EP released at the end of summer. CHLSY is made up of front-woman Chelsea Gilliland, bassist Sean Swanson and drummer Sawyer Dodds, all of which had a hand in writing and producing the new single “555,” alongside musician Jon Ezzo. Born in Massachusetts and having lived in Spain and California, Gilliland now resides in Nashville, Tennessee, where she graduated from Belmont University with a concentration in songwriting and a minor in the music business. You may also hear her voice as a radio host for the local radio station Yoco Nashville on 96.7FM. The name and inspiration for the song come from the angel number 555, signifying change, blending sounds of pop/punk with dramatic instrumental builds filling out the track. The track comes on the heels of several single releases, including “Garden,” “Vancouver,” two additional songs, “Bones” and “it was all in my head,” and their most recognized track, “No (Hard) Feelings,” which hit over 280K views within the first two weeks of its release. We want to hear from you! Kimberley Locke's first single from her highly anticipated upcoming Christmas album is an obscure one, originally penned by the Queen of Disco herself, Donna Summer with Michael and Stormie Omartian, "Christmas Is Here". The song embodies the Holiday season. You can't help but smile from ear to ear as you listen to smooth and sultry tones of Kimberley's voice. The lyrics will remind you of all the joy we feel and share during the holiday season. Here is the link to the lyric video to the hear the single https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm23HYHE59gKimberley's last Christmas album was a hit and she was touted by Billboard Magazine as the “Queen of Christmas”. Over the last few years, Kimberley has only released a single during the Holidays, but this year she felt it was time to go into the studio and put together a cohesive body of work for this Holiday season. More than ever, we can all use some Holiday cheer considering the year we've had. The full album will be released September 30. Kimberley is currently booking a Holiday tour.Locke will also be releasing a song later this year with Dave Audé and Andreas Moss through Curb Records.Auditioning for the 2003 series of American Idol® was a life-changing decision for Kimberley Locke. She successfully passed the audition and became a firm fan favorite, eventually placing third. Kimberley signed to Curb Records immediately after her American Idol journey, where she became a successful recording artist. She released three full-length albums, has ten Top 20 Adult Contemporary singles, five #1 Dance hits (Including one international dance hit “Feel the Love”) and was coined the Queen of Christmas by Billboard Magazine. She's worked with Recording Academy / GRAMMYs award winning Dave Audé and had a number 2 on the Billboard charts in the states. Now in Gold Coast and being a finalist in the Gold Coast Music Awards this year she shares her journey as a mum #singer #songwriter and also shares about her collaboration with Sheppard for the Olympics this year creating a song to help better athletic performance. Jamie has maintained an independent artist over the years of her career even after what looked like very good offers from major labels however it was more important to her to maintain her independents over the years than to join with them to keep her music limitless. She has made her own way making movies and working with amazing creative producers in Australian and the US living in LA for a while before returning to the Gold Coast Australia during the Covid pandemic. We have reached the third and final volume paying tribute to the master Ralphi Rosario and his legacy. He continues to remix massive hits to this day as in the recent "Rain On Me" by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande as well as RITMO by Black Eye Peas — both of which were monster hits in the past year and featured on these releases. Rosario's catalog of productions and remixes are vast and diverse going all the way back to 1987 even though he's been perfecting his craft for much longer. His songs and remixes have significantly contributed to the soundtrack of millions of gay boys and girls that to not recognize his work would be a travesty. I hope everyone has enjoyed this tribute series and make sure to hit him up live once things open back up sooner rather than later. I have another master DJ on tap who is not only Ralphi's peer but his equal. I'll leave that as a tease for now and will start dropping those sometime this next week or so. After, we'll dive right back into our spring series of Circuit & Anthems, Dance Club, Disco House and Peak Hour to carry you folks through spring break. Until then...ENJOY! I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Nicholas C. $20, Glenn A. $10, Ludovic D. $20, Casper Y. $50, Joe S. $50, Anthony S. $100 and Paul S. $50 for their generous donations in helping us renew our web hosting services. We still need about a little less than half to meet our goal in the next 12 days so any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated! The resurrection of a goddess — Tina Turner After having massive success with the resurrection of the buried gem "Higher Love" by Whitney Houston — Kygo is back again and sweetened the pot. He's reinvigorated the Tina Turner mid-80s monster classic "What's Love Got To Do With It" and turned it into a reggaeton summer monster. It's not clear if Tina (at 80 years old) was involved in this project but it seems likely. There are some runs in this version that were not part of the original release unless they were part of the original acapella in the masters vault. It doesn't really matter because he dusts this track off and gives it a modern-day spin that would put it in contention for song of the summer. The newest and hottest dance club songs Surf Mesa and Emilee have heated up the Electronic Dance Charts with Ily (I Love You Baby), which is a rework of the original Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons hit, which was turned into a #1 disco hit by Boys Town Gang, a #1 Dance Club song by Pet Shop Boys and a soothing hip hop twist by Lauryn Hill among many others. Here, Topic turns their laid-back version into a dance-floor-ready house number. Other personal treats here for your summer listening pleasure are Sammy Porter's "Evissa, You & Me," HOSH, 1979 and Jalja's "Midnight (The Hanging Tree)," Vize and Tom Gregory's "Never Let Me Down," Purple Disco with Sophie and the Giants "Hypnotized," Alesso and Liam Payne's "Midnight," and the return of Toni Braxton with the help of Dave Audé on her funky "Dance." As predicted, Gorgon City and Soffi Tukker's "House Arrest" is topping just about every DJ list out there, while Gorgon City isn't letting up and just dropped "Nobody" with the indie group Drama. This is going to be another massive song but more so for the dub version included here, which takes the original and gives it that deep house mystique GC is known for. Wait until you hear the Sam Girling Tech House mix, which is slated for the next Peak Hour set and takes the song to a whole new level. Perhaps the one that's really got me sucked in is Kenzie and Sia's "Exhale." Weiss and Harry Romero take on Alan Parson's Project with "Where Do We Go" using the catchy refrain from their "Games People Play," Block & Crown take on Madonna with a sizzling house floor rework of "Like a Prayer" with their "Pray For More" update, Robin Schulz updates the massive Bob Marley classic "Sun Is Shining" for a summertime blockbuster, Kideko and Armand Van Helen take Gwen Guthrie's disco classic "Keep the Fire Burning," speed up the vocals to give us a modern-era twist with "The Fire," and perhaps the most puzzling of all...Nora En Pure and Lika More update the Phil Collins monster classic "In The Air Tonight." The attempt here was something Zhu would've have done with the song but at a slower tempo to retain the darker elements of the original. I understand the reasoning for bumping up the BPM by Croatia Squad and it took me awhile to fully appreciate it but the song itself is so pertinent to what's going on on the streets of America that this version is a welcome addition to this set.

Here, Topic turns their laid-back version into a dance-floor ready house number. Other personal treats here for your summer listenting pleasure are Sammy Porter's "Evissa, You & Me," HOSH, 1979 and Jalja's "Midnight (The Hanging Tree)," Vize and Tom Gregory's "Never Let Me Down," Purple Disco with Sophie and the Giants "Hypnotized," Alesso and Liam Payne's "Midnight," and the return of Toni Braxton with the help of Dave Audé on her funky "Dance." [youtube v="VbQqV8_Ykow"] As predicted, Gorgon City and Soffi Tukker's "House Arrest" is topping just about every DJ list out there, while Gorgon City isn't letting up and just dropped "Nobody" with the indie group Drama. This is going to be another massive song but more so for the dub version included here, which takes the original and gives it that deep house mystique GC is known for. Wait until you hear the Sam Girling Tech House mix, which is slated for the next Peak Hour set and takes the song to a whole new level. [youtube v="tK_HwUAVZrY"] Perhaps the one that's really got me sucked in is Kenzie and Sia's "Exhale." The Hook n Sling remix on this is pure perfection and will certainly raise the temperature on any dance floor already boiling over. As of this writing — there's only a radio version but no extended nor remixes of this fantastic song but it's HOT and gonna be BIG! [youtube v="2xFE-aAlqXI"] Bootlegs and mashups that keep it interesting As part of our continuing expansion to diversify and keep these sets firmly grounded in the party realm — There are a number of bootlegs, mashups and classic reworks contained in Meltdown. Weiss and Harry Romero take on Alan Parson's Project with "Where Do We Go" using the catchy refrain from their "Games People Play," Block & Crown take on Madonna with a sizzling house floor rework of "Like a Prayer" with their "Pray For More" update, Robin Schulz updates the massive Bob Marley classic "Sun Is Shining" for a summertime blockbuster, Kideko and Armand Van Helen take Gwen Guthrie's disco classic "Keep the Fire Burning," speed up the vocals to give us a modern-era twist with "The Fire," and perhaps the most puzzling of all...Nora En Pure and Lika More update the Phil Collins monster classic "In The Air Tonight." The attempt here was something Zhu would've have done with the song but at a slower tempo to retain the darker elements of the original. I understand the reasoning for bumping up the BPM by Croatia Squad and it took me awhile to fully appreciate it but the song itself is so pertinent to what's going on on the streets of America that this version is a welcome addition to this set.

Dave Audé is a producer and remixer with an astounding 133 #1’s on Billboard’s Dance Club chart. That’s more than any other producer, and what makes it even more impressive is that 14 are his own singles as an artist. He’s also won a Grammy for his remix of "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Dave has produced for superstar artists such as U2, KoЯn, Coldplay, One Direction, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Britney Spears, Beyoncé and many more. Most recently, Dave produced 6 songs on Sting’s latest album. During the interview we spoke about how remixing has changed over the years, the elements he receives for a remix, producing Sting, how his personal studio has evolved, his favorite plugins, and much more. On the intro I’ll also take a look at how streaming is about to change the DJ world, and at how summer NAMM is turning into a powerhouse conference.

Candy Crush is the first electronic dance music set of 2018 and boy oh boy is it a winner! I was dreading the thought of having to slap together another reggaeton set with indistinguishable vocalists but quickly changed my point of view after pouring through 100's of promos to decide the winners and losers. Once I started putting it together, I knew I had something special with a little bit of something for everyone to keep things interesting. Charts are used as a jump-off point when putting these commercial dance sets together but most of it is created through intuition and instinct or basically what I'm getting into. The first time I heard Bruno Mars' latest "Finesse" I was all over this shit. From the Cardi B rap to the early 90's R&B sound that harkens back to BBD (Bel Biv Devoe) to Bruno's effortless adaptability to virtually everything he tackles, this song is just perfect! In fact, I much prefer it to "Versace on the Floor" which was difficult for me really get into. Because it is so stylistically different, I used it as a transition 2/3 of the way into the set, which worked better than expected. Let's just say it was gonna be included if it killed me. Charlie Puth's latest "How Long" is a given and comes packed with a wide variety of remixes; many of which you'll be hearing as the year goes on. Sofi Tukker's "Best Friend" is catchy as hell and sticks in your head long after hearing it. Martin Garrix's "So Far Away" featuring vocalist Jamie Scott & Romy Dya is quite possibly the best thing he's put out since his departure from Spinnin. Olivia Holt (another product of the Disney machine) is coming out strong with "Generous" as are the bevy of remixes included in its remix package. Skylar Stecker continues to impress with "Blame." Dave Audé gives the song that "French Kiss" touch separating it from his standard remixes that virtually guarantees a number one club hit, while his remix of April Diamond's "Lose Control" has serious "Run the World (Girls)" streaming through its veins. So much so, that I've already created a mashup which I may release into the wild later on if the song lands in the top spot as I expect it to do. The remake of the Ultra Naté classic "Free" by Sean Finn, Terri B and Peter Brown has a multitude of remixes that accompanied it but not one of them really offered anything special to the song compared to the original until the KC Anderson remix dropped. This housed-up version without all the tricks and gimmicks finally does justice to the song that's about to hit the top in a couple of weeks and is something I can sink my teeth into. Probably the biggest song in this set belongs to a pair called NAATIONS. Their song "Want Me More" grabs my attention like no other. The lyrics are well-written (almost unheard of these days) and accompanied by fantastic vocals by Nicky Routledge with a catchy deep bass sound provided by Nat Dunn. Folks, this is real life music set to a dance beat and I expect bigger things for this duo because they're doing it better than practically any other major act out there now. My only advice to Nicky; waiting for someone to want you more is a fool's game. Trust from someone who's been there. Good news for my i-whatever users (more than half of my followers). As predicted, I've been re-listed in the iTunes store and the link to subscribe is now at the bottom of each player located at the end of every post. Well almost, I'm still swapping out players as we speak but most are there. Google Play will be a bit longer because there is an issue with duplicate feeds I'm trying to have resolved with their support group. I've got a massive part 2 to Sweat on the Floor which moves the original into a peak hour funky deep tech house monster scheduled to drop next Friday. If you were a fan of the first, you're going to lap this puppy up. I've also got a 2-set release of Happy House Classics or what I like to call tunes that will put a smile on your face in these ...

“In the real world, Halloween is when kids dress up in costumes and beg for candy. In Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it.” – "Mean Girls" “I own Halloween. It's my jam! Halloween is the most important day of the year. It’s the one day on the Gregorian calendar where you’re allowed to go around terrifying children and not be branded a psychopath." - Scream Queens Fall is my favorite time of year and no holiday makes me more excited than Halloween! I’m honored to return for the fourth year to DJ my close friends’ Fred & Jason’s 10th annual HALLOWEENIE party, presented by Brian & Chad. This incredible “Party with a Purpose” benefits GMCLA’s programmatic work, including: Alive Music Project, and the "it gets better" Tour! This year’s Halloweenie takes place on Friday, October 30th at our new location of The Majestic Downtown. Once again, I’ll be playing the whole party – opening for Dave Audé on the main floor before taking to the catacombs for the second half of the night. And of course, the next night, catch me at Halloween New Orleans alongside Joe Gauthreaux. Get your costumes ready, because 2015 is going to be one for the record books! It's almost Summer, which means it's about time to get out in the sun! Here's a little funky house goodness for your pool-side partaking. Lots of fun, happy stuff here. I tried to keep it a little more on-point this year. No Gaga this time, kiddies, although she does make a brief cameo appearance (and don't give me any of that Alejandro static). I did have my hand in putting together one of these songs. A little while back, Edson Pride released a somewhat Circuity mix of Groove Is in the Heart. I immediately purchased it, only to find out it was barely even a dub. Not really any vocals to speak of. Now, there was no way I could let that happen to such as fun and happy song as Groove, so I took a recent remake and parts of the original and threw them all together. I think the results are quite entertaining in my "groovy mashup". My favorite new song on this mix would have to be Alexis Jordan - Happiness. I really like the song and its lyrics. Very uplifting. I was waiting -- in anxious anticipation -- for Dave Audé's remix. I heard a sample and knew it was going to turn out really well. When I finally obtained the full version, it exceeded my expectations. Such a nicely done, pretty production by him and the bridge gives me goose bumps every time (I did throw in a little more "sparkle", for good measure). It seems he is just at the top of his game these days. This song, to say the least, makes me very, well, "happy". I always like to end my Sun mixes with a little bit of old-school disco. Anyone that knows me well, knows me and my relationship with "the Cake". By "the Cake", I mean Donna Summer's remake of the song MacArthur Park. A few months back, I had ran across a rare, different disco version of it by a different group (at least, that I had never heard and I'm a disco fanboy). I was all planning on using it to end this mix. That is, until it was a suggested by a friend that if I was going to end the mix with "the Cake", why not use the Queen's version? Well, I decided since I haven't ever used it before, I would finally bring it out to play. So Donna makes her appearance in the full 18-minute suite. Hopefully one day she'll find that recipe... only "heaven knows." Hahaha. :-) Song listing: Kimberley Locke - Strobelight (Tony Moran & Warren Rigg Intro Edit)Hannah - I Believe In You (Riff & Rays Club Mix)Robyn - Dancing On My Own (Buzz Junkies Club Mix)Mojito feat. The power of a remix: It can take a ho-hum song, and make it outstanding! Just as every generation has their artists, so do they have their remixers. In the 80's, it was Junior Vasquez and Shep Pettibone. In the 90's, it was Rauhofer and Calderone. Now, there are too many to list; but one stands out from the crowd with a distinct sound, Dave Audé. This podcast episode is a compilation of remixes by Dave Audé, with songs by some of today's most popular artists. While some of these may not be as familiar to you as others, what you'll notice is each one carries Audé's distinctive sound, making this episode, well, "Audé-licious!"

Wrapping up the final installment of BPM Edition 2009 v1, I take you on a journey of some serious electro-funk. As promised, I've added some sweet re-makes from the 90's. First up, is the Buzz Junkies take on the massive Darude classic "Sandstorm". Okay, that song is really early millennium, so it's a couple of years off, but who's counting? Anyhoo, for those too young to remember, this was so big, it even got played on top 40 radio. It spurned so many remixes (official and unofficial) it was nauseating. Then came the mashups. OMG, I can't begin to tell you how many of those there were (and you thought "Pjanoo" mashups were overdone). Regardless, the BJs took this one by the horn and blow it through the roof! Then we've got "Sweet Dreams" a remake of the LaBouche classic, though the vocals aren't up to par when compared to Melanie Thornton (may she rest in peace), but the ReCover Project lay on a nice electro layer and dropped the cheesy rap for the perfect trip down memory lane that can still fill floors. This, of course, is followed by the Ruffneck classic "Everybody Be Somebody" which made an appearance on one of my 90's classic editions from last year. Thomas Gold and Matthias Menck give it a serious electro workout that's not only worthy of the original but damn near surpasses it! I also had two 80's remakes ("Electric Avenue" and "She Blinded Me with Science") that were decent enough, but still not worthy of this mix. Possibly the biggest surprise in this category is "Magic" by Vinny Troia & Dave Aud?. Why? Because this is actually a remake of an old Barry Manilow tune "Could This Be Magic" from the seventies that was later turned into a #1 disco hit for none other than Donna Summer. Granted, they dropped the over the top drama of Barry's original and left out the sweeping strings of Donna's version, and just left the lyrics, re-creating a different song altogether. Is it great? Not really, but I was intrigued by the way they used the lyrics to create an entirely new song, thus its inclusion. Other songs definitely worth mentioning are the Freemasons' re-rub of "If" originally from their "Shakedown" album a couple of years back. In fact, I think this is probably the sixth or seventh release from that album that got re-worked for single release. If you remember Gusto' "Disco's Revenge" and Katherine Ellis' "Touch Me" originally appeared on that album and went on to greater heights in clubland during 2008. Probably the song that surprised me the most is Kidda's "Under the Sun". Used in a Bacardi commercial, it apparently was floating around the Internet last year, but didn't get an official release until mid-November. How I managed to miss this is beyond me, because this song absolutely rocks! Just think of the good old days when Fatboy Slim was rocking it with the likes of "I See You Baby" and "Rockafeller Skank" and you'll get the picture. Equally, the Jason Heard vs. Flashlight "My Girl" is a dirty, nasty romper with a funky guitar riff that will stick in your head long after you leave the club. I expect huge things for this song in the coming months. Rounding out the mix you get "Everybody" by Russia's Rudenko. While it may be too soon to tell, he is someone you might want to watch because this song is smoking! As I got down to the end of the mix, I still had a handful of great tunes that I didn't use. So, I've moved those off to the side for use in the next BPM installment, probably sometime in March or after WMC. Weather is really cooperative today and it looks like we're going to have a fabulous weekend so mixing won't be in the cards as Rick and I will certainly take advantage of the beautiful weather. Nevertheless, I promise to have the 2009 Winter Edition up and ready by the end of next week. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and I'll catch you guys next week. Until then.ENJOY!
