In this episode of Love is the Message Jeremy and Tim have packed a bag chock full of stone cold 1977 dance floor classics that share a Black Disco aesthetic. We hear a number of cuts from Tom Moulton and Walter Gibbons that can be pinpointed as some of the most important contributions to early remix culture (whilst still guaranteed to go off at a party). François K makes a fleeting appearance, alongside Boney M, Grace Jones, Miami, the SalSoul Orchestra and Henri Bergson. We close out the show with an all-timer in Lamont Dozier's ‘Going Back to my Roots'. Tribute to Tom Moulton…the originator of the remix and the 12-inch single vinyl format…the creator of the breakdown section or “Disco Break”. Frequently seen on many M70s albums with the phrase “A Tom Moulton Mix” indicating that Tom Moulton had mixed, produced or engineered the record. His innovative work was honored at the 2004 Dance Music Hall of Fame ceremony in NYC. In the line of this show, I will play his versatility from soul to funk and deep disco-funk. Enjoy it!
What is the definition of "soul" ? According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it is "emotional or intellectual energy or intensity". Well that certainly sums it up for me. "The Soul Explosion" is all about sharing the tunes and the music that I love with a wider audience. The aim is to cover a wide range of musical genres, from soul, boogie, modern soul, northern soul, rare groove, jazz, funk, soulful garage, gospel, jazz-funk, old skool hip-hop, motown, disco and everything in between. Whatever you hear on "The Soul Explosion" has one thing in common - every single track is a CHOOON (no fillers) !! Hope you enjoy listening as much as I will playing for you

A major technological innovation to emerge from the milieu of NYC 1975 was the 12" single. In this episode, Jeremy and Tim uncover the demands of dancers and DJs in the discos for longer tracks, the precursors found in acid rock and Bob Dylan, and tell the story of individual releases that presaged widespread adoption of the 12" format. Tim and Jeremy also talk album aesthetics, the Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields double A side, nascent remix culture, the importance of wide grooves, and return to a recurring character of the show: Tom Moulton. As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we''ll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. It''s safe to say that there would be no house music, no dance music as we know it, without François Kevorkian. The French-born, New York-based DJ started remixing disco records in the mid-''70s, when he was just a teenager, and became a pioneer of the form alongside names like Larry Levan, Tom Moulton and Walter Gibbons. And though he would become a house icon, he became especially known for the trippy "dub" mixes on the B-sides of records, which often eschewed the structure and vocals of the songs he was remixing in favour of excursions into the unknown. It''s that legacy that led him to Deep Space, his Monday-night residency at the once-legendary Meatpacking District club Cielo, which was one of the most beloved (and best-sounding) rooms in Manhattan. Deep Space started at 2002 and ran every Monday for over a decade. The idea was to explore "dub" in all its forms, and to play all kinds of music while manipulating it in real time. The slogan was "Live On The Mixing Board." At Deep Space you would hear all kinds of music. Dub, reggae, dub techno, drum & bass—and later on, as you''ll hear in this mix, dubstep—sure, but also disco, R&B, funk, old-school house. All music was dub in Kevorkian''s hands, and over the years Deep Space became one of the most renowned and consistent parties in New York, a place of refuge and discovery every single Monday (and, eventually, Sunday). This four-hour recording allows you to almost experience what it was like to be in that room—you can even hear the crowd whooping and cheering—as Kevorkian journeys through ultra-deep techno, dubstep and a string of funky disco and post-disco tracks. It''s a sound all his own, and though it was recorded 13 years ago, still sounds full of possibility and potential. Like the future. Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/854

In this episode, we welcome Davitt Sigerson, all the way from his native New York City, to talk about his stellar career from Black Music magazine in 1975 to being made chairman of Island Records in America in 1998. Along the way we hear about his passionate love of disco, his two albums for ZE Records, and plenty more besides.Davitt also weighs in with thoughts on Chic, Prince, David Bowie's Young Americans, the late Mick Rock and a newly-added audio interview with Bootsy Collins, conducted in June 1978 by Davitt's sometime Black Music colleague Cliff White. Extended Versions of Goldies from 80´s & 90´s by Dj Licas a little bit of History, from https://blog.discogs.com/: Coming to prominence in that mid-1970s disco era — 12-inch records were initially called “Disco Disks” — these singles were usually cut at 45 RPM with wider grooves, giving the songs more volume and power while allowing space on the B-side for extended cuts, remixes, and instrumentals. Producers enjoyed the freedom of stretching songs well past the previous 7-inch time constraints. DJs, the primary audience for the 12-inch, immediately loved the lengthier cuts filled with booming bass as they were ripe for a bangin' time at the discotheque. Interestingly, 12-inch singles were originally a fortuitous mistake. Tom Moulton, who was neither a DJ nor a musician at the time but is now known as “the father of the disco mix,” simply had the ear for a hit record and an immense passion for music. After making his name known by creating elongated mixes of funk, soul, and early disco hits, Moulton and mastering engineer José Rodriguez created the 12-inch out of necessity: they had to finish a mix by the end of the weekend and were out of 7-inch blanks. Moulton stretched out the grooves to fill in the 12-inch blank, and history was written. While there are some conflicting reports on the very first 12-inch single, Moulton points to I'll Be Holding On by Al Downing.

AttractionPros has officially reached its 200th episode! To celebrate, we decided to have an episode that invited our audience of fellow attraction professionals to participate in a collaborative conversation. The topic chosen was timely and focused on the resurgence of themed entertainment offerings as vaccinations against COVID-19 climb, infections fall, and restrictions are lifted. While the attractions industry was deemed non-essential by health and government leaders during the hardest moments of the pandemic, attractions will be essential to economic recovery and a return to a sense of normalcy. While some changes are here to stay, there are opportunities for themed entertainment to roar back, and as Johnathan Lee Iverson, the Last Ringmaster of Ringling Bros. Circus, stated, this is a chance for the industry to soar to new heights. From an economic recovery standpoint, location-based entertainment is essential for drawing people out of their homes, bringing them out into their communities or new areas, and encouraging spending wherever they may be visiting. Tom Moulton, with the Southern Arizona Attractions Alliance, highlighted that attractions are “destination drivers,” bringing money to their communities. This is true whether a family stays close to home or whether they plan an elaborate trip in another state or country. Ike Kwon, with the California Academy of Sciences, expanded upon this economic impact by pointing out the many jobs that are supported by the attractions industry. Ike also pointed out that many attractions are deeply rooted in their communities and even when they faced economic uncertainty due to closures, chose to give back to their communities. Giving back to the community that embraces them has always been part of the culture for many themed entertainment venues, and that only increased during the pandemic. Ron Gustafson, with Quassy Amusement Park, discussed how the park had been an essential part of its community for 113 years. They chose to support members of their community by partnering with nonprofits in their area to host food drives and collect donations of personal items. Andreas Andersen, with Liseberg, discussed how integral Liseberg is to the “social and cultural fabric of their community.” Theme parks aren't just places with thrill rides, but they also represent gathering places for shared experiences with family, friends, and even new acquaintances. Exciting destinations are the perfect places to make lasting memories with loved ones. Greg Fisher, with TripShock, shared the importance of preserving attractions so that memories can be made for generations to come. Adam Sandy, of Zamperla, pointed out that so many shared experiences happen at theme parks, from first roller coaster rides to first dates. Keith James, from Jack Rouse Associates, pointed out that the emotions, the laughter, the joy, and the relief from stress that attractions provide are essential. Theme parks have often been a respite from the chaos of day-to-day life, but now the guests need them to be a respite from the harsh reality of the pandemic and its related challenges. 2020 was an incredibly challenging year for everyone, but many are approaching 2021, and especially its second half, with a renewed sense of hope for a return to pre-pandemic normalcy. Matt Eckert, of Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, talked about how exciting it was to be open again and gifting happiness and laughter to their guests. After all, those are gifts everyone truly needs after this past challenging year. Audrey Jowett, from Revolution Adventures, talked about how attractions have an ability to give their guests a perceived sense of normalcy by keeping up their enhanced cleaning and safety standards but drawing less attention to it with signage and announcements. Louis Alfieri, of Raven Sun Creative, pointed out some of the connectivity alternatives that have been utilized throughout the pandemic and the ability to deliver some elements of themed entertainment virtually, but he went on to state that nothing completely replaces the value of real-world destinations. Whether they are family entertainment centers, zoos, aquariums, museums, theme parks, or other location-based offerings, attractions offer opportunities to have adventures with our friends and family that turn into life-long memories. Mark Rosenzweig, of 3dx Scenic, stated that the world is an exciting place that should be explored. Brandon Willey, from Hownd, pointed out that “humans crave experiences,” whether they are looking to learn something new, “get a dose of adrenaline,” or celebrate with loved ones. There are many different reasons for wanting to visit an attraction. Besides being places that offer a good time, many experiences sneak in educational moments for their guests. Some of the best venues for “edutainment” are zoos, aquariums, and museums. Felicia Cook, with The Dolphin Company, discussed the importance their “nature ambassadors,” or the animals in their care, have on the guests that visit. In addition to conducting research and educating the public on the importance of wildlife, attractions like The Dolphin Company contribute directly to the health of Earth's ecosystems by rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing animals. Jennifer Berthiaume, of Lion Country Safari, discussed the importance of educating the public about conservation by highlighting humanity's connection to wildlife. Jennifer also highlighted a study from the St. Louis Zoo that found that “a visit to the zoo is good for health,” physically and mentally. The pandemic has put an increased amount of strain on many people's mental wellbeing, which has brought greatly-needed attention to the importance of taking care of one's mental health in addition to physical health. Sarah Cole, of Glazer Children's Museum, pointed out that children have been greatly affected by the isolation of the pandemic, causing a mental health crisis in kids. She said that museums and other attractions offer a “space for respite and joy.” Marcus Gaines, from Coaster Touring, agreed and stated that the escapism granted through location-based experiences help to promote mental wellness. Paul Griffiths, of Painshill Park Trust, talked about how attractions create spaces for employees and volunteers to escape from loneliness and connect with each other and guests in a meaningful way. He also discussed how connecting with nature through parks and other outdoor venues are opportunities to better our mental and physical well being. However, green spaces aren't the only attractions that improve their guests' mental and physical wellbeing. Ryan Borton, of Funovation, discussed how Funovation's offerings, like their laser mazes, challenge players' “brain and brawn.” This mental and physical challenge is fun but also rewarding for both mental and physical wellness. Similarly, Luke and Cody Schueler, of Flying Squirrel Sports, talked about the many physical benefits of playing at indoor trampoline parks and similar attractions, such as improving your coordination, practicing your balance skills, and reducing your fatigue. Additionally, these sorts of experiences can increase bonds between family and friends, to the benefit of everyone's mental wellbeing. The opportunity to get out and play at attractions is something that was greatly limited during the worst days of the pandemic, but people are certainly wasting no time getting back to these fun, physical, mentally-freeing activities. Another important aspect of the return to these fun activities and attractions is making sure that they are safe and accessible for all. Bob McCullough, of Morgan's Wonderland, discussed the importance of having accessible options that anyone can enjoy. Morgan's Wonderland was designed to accommodate guests of all ages and abilities and to remove barriers so that anyone attending can have a wonderful experience. Pam Landwirth, from Give Kids the World Village, also discussed the importance of accessibility and highlighted the accessible rides gifted to the park by Zamperla. Pam summed it up beautifully by saying, “To see the joy on a child's face to ride a ride for the very first time and to see their parents crying because they're able to watch their children do it, I think that's what makes us essential.” In addition to providing magical moments for all guests, many attractions also provide a fulfilling purpose to their employees. Rachel Harper, of Castle Fun Park, pointed out that many employees of attractions would describe themselves as “people people” and find joy in going above and beyond to give their guests an unforgettable experience. I, Paige Reiter, the writer of the weekly AttractionPros podcast summaries, shared a story I had heard about a volunteer at Give Kids the World who didn't find their purpose in life until they helped create cherished memories for the critically ill but incredibly brave children and their families who visit the park. There are many remarkable stories related to the incredible impact that attractions have on their employees, their guests, and their communities. AttractionPros will continue to do our part to highlight the many amazing attractions, experiences, and the people that make them happen for many episodes to come. It's that time of the year again where summer kicks off in the northern hemisphere which means Pride celebrations also kick off. For this 7th edition of Pride Anthems, I've reached back to the 90's and early 2000's for some classic, uplifting vocal house anthems. The set kicks off with the Almighty mix of Obsession's cover of "If I Can't Have You". Up Yer Ronson had a big club hit with "Lost In Love" and Almighty strike again with their remix of Diana Ross' "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". Division 4 delivers a punchy, uptempo remix of Mariah Carey's mega hit "Emotions" and Dirty Disco reinvents the Freemasons "When You Touch Me". Wayne G does a stellar job on Madonna's "Celebration" as well as "You Raise Me Up". I remember being in Miami and hearing Le Monde's "I Have No Fear" in the 90's and thinking I must get that. The Tom Moulton remix closes out the June '21 edition of Pride Anthems 7. Enjoy Anthony 1/ "IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU" (Almighty Club Mix) - OBSESSION 2/ "LOST IN LOVE" (Original Club Mix) - UP YER RONSON 3/ "AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH" (Almighty 12" Essential Club Mix) - DIANA ROSS 4/ "EMOTIONS" (Division 4 Remix) - MARIAH CAREY 5/ "WHEN YOU TOUCH ME" (Dirty Disco & Matt Consola Classic Tea Dance Remix) - FREEMASONS ft. Co-founded by Tom Moulton, Hotel Linen Services was established to address a need in Melbourne’s hotel and accommodation market for a better alternative when it came to linen providers. Hotel owners and operators were tired of stained, grey sheets, orders being delivered late, sometimes incomplete and no one to talk to when help was required. Hotel Linen Services has faced, and beaten, some significant challenges in the delivery of first class linen services, such as being a new entry to a market where the barriers to entry are high both in terms of assets and competition. Tom, along with his co-founders, have taken a new approach to servicing this market and even with the hospitality industry in very difficult times managed to gain a foot hole and grow their market presence. In this episode Tom explains the journey from starting the business, his passion for solving problems with great customer service and how EOS (the Entrepreneurial Operating System) is helping Hotel Linen Services capitalise on their incredible start to becoming a commercial laundry powerhouse. In this episode we welcome the legendary Nick Kent as our very special guest. Unarguably the most famous British rock writer from the golden era of '70s rock journalism, Nick tells Barney, Mark & Jasper how he began writing for the underground Frendz and then for Nick Logan's super-hip New Musical Express. Recollections of Syd Barrett, Brian Wilson and the Rolling Stones lead inevitably to tales of self-indulgence and self-destruction — and eventually to Nick's sometime drug buddy Iggy Pop, who is heard speaking in March 1977 about his beloved proto-punk band the Stooges and about his new Bowie-produced solo album The Idiot. The conversation turns briefly to Nirvana and Kurt Cobain before we pay our respects to departed Animals guitarist Hilton Valentine and then — led by a very eloquent Jasper — to the extraordinary electronic producer and trans icon SOPHIE. Among the new library articles Mark highlights are pieces about Cream's Eric Clapton, Charlie Gillett's Sound Of The City, Fun Boy Three and 12" disco master-mixer Tom Moulton. For reasons that will be obvious to many of you, Nick pitches in after Mark quotes from Barry Cain's 1978 Record Mirror interview with PiL's John Lydon and Jah Wobble. Jasper wraps up the episode with passing remarks on Simon Reynolds' 2017 retrospective on Donna Summer's epic 'I Feel Love'...Many thanks to special guest Nick Kent; his novel The Unstable Boys is published by Constable and out now.Pieces discussed: Nick Kent on David Bowie, Nick Kent on Brian Wilson, Nick Kent on Iggy Pop, Nick Kent on Kurt Cobain, Chris Salewicz on Nick Kent, Iggy Pop audio, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl, The Animals, SOPHIE, Sly Stone, Jimi Hendrix, New York Dolls, Eric Clapton, Graham Nash, Sound of the City, Public Image Limited, Fun Boy Three, Tom Moulton, Donna Summer & Giorgio Moroder and Jon Bon Jovi.

The first time Groovejet was played? It was March 1999 I was going to the Winter Music Conference in Miami for the second time, my flight was in the early morning and I wanted to stay awake until it was time to leave, so went in my studio and I sampled a previously unreleased Tom Moulton version of Carol Williams “Love is You” that I had just bought on a Salsoul release called “12" Gold Master Series”. I played with those samples for an hour or so and came up with this instrumental track, I quickly burned 1 copy into a CD and ran to the airport. When I landed in Miami my old friend Boris Dlugosch came to pick me up at the airport with a nice rented cabriolet and drove me to my (shitty) hotel in South Beach. While on the road he asked me if I had some new music and I put the CD on the car radio but we kept talking about things and I forgot the CD there. Later that day he was playing along with a great lineup in a club called “Groove Jet” and he invited me to go, when I arrived there people I didn't even know ran to me asking about my new record, I didn't understand what they were talking about until Boris told me he had played that demo and that the people went nuts. That's how the story began for the record that changed my life and that's why I decided to call it Groovejet, also Boris suggested calling the EP “Mighty Miami EP”. I always regretted arriving late that night and missing that special moment when it was played for the first time, I wish I was in that dancefloor but… Incredibly enough, 10 years later a friend of Boris told him that he was there that night and that he recorded the whole set from the middle of the dancefloor using the internal microphone of a MINIDISK WALKMAN. As the room wasn't that big the recording is somehow even better than a proper direct one because you can hear people's reactions to each record, you can even hear people asking him what the record was. The whole set is amazing and an accurate portrait of the best tracks of that season in my opinion. So here it is: Boris Dlugosch live at Groove Jet, March 16th, 1999.
Curated by the one and only @blakfire40 (Dorian "Dino" Green) and mixed by yours truly. This was one tough mix being that most of these tracks are not quantized, but it was worth the struggle. Over the years we searched for outside of the ordinary re-edits and remixes from elite producers and djs such as Tom Moulton, Joey Negro, John Morales, Dimitri From Paris, and most recently from France: The Reflex. More goodness to come as my man Dino is always searching for the tunes that represent his hometown of Philadelphia. Feel free to spread the goodness, and as always: Good Music Lives. Peace. Part 2- https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/tantricdex/episodes/2018-09-09T06_06_49-07_00 Aretha Franklin is without question the most accomplished vocalist in popular music – the undisputed Queen of Soul. And although there have been many pretenders to the throne, she still reigns supreme, regularly cited as the greatest female singer of modern times. A titan, with a voice that turned every room into a Cathedral. Her cultural impact is immeasurable. A child prodigy who began singing in her father’s church aged 12 and made her first record at 14. Ms. Franklin was a deeply reserved artist who spoke little about her art and shied away from revealing too much about her personal life. She once described her music as "me, with my hand outstretched, hoping someone will take it". Hers was a a life of heroism, heartbreak and hope and she articulated adversities and injustices that still exist today. A motherless child who grew up in extremely difficult circumstances fighting her way with attitude, pride and the unyielding will of a performer who became a symbol for the civil rights movement. She was also a champion of the women's rights movement giving them one of their early anthems with her rabble-rousing rendition of Otis Redding's ‘Respect’. Her ability to stimulate emotion is a talent few artists have ever been able to emulate. And her piano-playing prowess was unparalleled. Throughout her storied 60 year career she soulfully serenaded us with lush laments about love, loss and lust which will have a long lasting legacy. Born in Memphis and raised in Detroit, a city steeped in musical history and famed for producing icons in the industry. Franklin passed up the opportunity to sign with the legendary Motown label. However, Motown's most famous artists from Diana Ross to Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson were greatly influenced by her. It’s no coincidence that the Motown Museum laid out a book of condolence when the news of her death broke, playing nothing but her music all weekend. She spent most of her life living in Detroit, with the City celebrating her life by holding a 4 day event in memorial of her passing. A send off fit for a Queen. Her impact as an artist is first and foremost attributable to her style and skill as a singer. Her vivacious voice – a glorious mix of gospel, jazz, blues and soul. There are no words that can properly describe it – the authenticity of it, the agony in it, the strength of it, the magic in it, the depth to it. It is utterly sublime, an ethereal instrument from an extraordinary woman. It’s difficult not to have some degree of physical or emotional response to her brilliant and impassioned voice as it swoops and soars with effortless intensity. The ease with which she skips octaves in ‘You’re All I Need to Get By’, the force of the top notes she delivers in ‘Think’, the sassiness in the liberating cries of ‘Respect’, the velvety tone of her voice in ‘Day Dreaming’ and the playfulness of her inventive phrasing in ‘Jump To It’ have influenced generations of singers. The late singer is also renowned for her ability to so inhabit someone else’s song that it became completely her own. So much so that fellow singers would simply stop singing them. Stevie Wonder is famously quoted as saying “If Aretha took your song, you weren’t getting it back”. But she was much more than an interpreter, she wrote songs too often with her sisters Carolyn and Erma (who had a hit with ‘Piece of My Heart’). Never one to shy away, she was fully invested in the craft of record-making and was fully involved in the production of her music. Working out the rhythm part, the piano arrangement and the vocal lines. She poured her heart and soul into each and every one of her tracks. The fortitude of the blues, the sincerity of soul, the expressiveness of jazz and, above all, the spirituality of gospel are all apparent in her finest work. She is gone, but those songs will endure. Make no mistake, we have lost one of the greatest voices to have ever graced this planet. Aretha has shuffled off this mortal coil, but her legacy, her ability to move people through her music, will remain well intact. Her place in history is secure. There is no one to fill her shoes because quite frankly she is incomparable. The Queen is dead, long live the Queen! Here’s a selection of my favourite cuts, on a down-tempo tip, from across her 6 decades as a recording artist. I’ll post Part II, which features the best examples of her uptempo work, in the coming days. Image by Bill Sienkiewicz *Also I'd like to say a special thanks to Jay Negron (AKA J*ski) who I contacted about his edit of Tom Moulton's mix of 'Since you've been gone' Jay re-edited it and sent it on to Tom who did some more work on it before he passed it on to me. This is a big deal for me as Tom Moulton is one of my heroes. So to know he did some work on a track on my behalf means a lot to me. If you're not familiar with Tom Moulton you can read about him here. La Vie en rose, La Dolce Vita however you like to refer to it, it's summertime here in the northern hemisphere and the living is indeed easy. Growing up in Ireland you learn to be cautiously optimistic when it comes to the weather but when the sun does make an appearance it lifts the mood and takes the tempo of life down a few notches. I usually reach for songs like these on days like this. They're sure to turn a good day into a lovely day. The sprinkles on the ice-cream,if you will. I've also reloaded the other 4 volumes, for your listening pleasure. You can find them here: Volume 4: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/tantricdex/episodes/2017-05-06T18_12_04-07_00 Volume 3: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/tantricdex/episodes/2016-05-13T04_04_30-07_00 Volume 2: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/tantricdex/episodes/2015-05-09T07_44_53-07_00 Volume 1: https://www.podomatic.com/podcasts/tantricdex/episodes/2014-06-21T08_50_02-07_00 I've also compiled some what of a 'Halftime Report' too on the Albums, Films and T.V. shows that I've been enjoying so far this year. They're all worthy of your time and if you scroll down you'll see my selections from 2017 along with 100's of tracks that didn't make it to a mix but are equally as good as anything that's had a run out. You can find them all here: http://neilcorcoran.podomatic.net/articles I'm going to park it there for now, as I've a few things I need to get done. I should be back at some point in the Autumn. Cool Million have become a solid rock in today's tumultuous barren musical desert. The sands shift very regularly. Everything is in flux. Yet Rob Hardt and Frank Ryle, who comprise Cool Million, stand unnerved and unwavering. The reason, dear reader, is very simple. These guys KNOW about music. They are not following trends, jumping on bandwagons or even trying to create a trend. Both well known and respected in the radio and song writing fields, these gentleman are simply creating real music with real feeling and doing so with all the knowledge, love and respect for what we can affectionately call the groove! Bursting onto the scene in 2007 with “Naughty Girl” that was featured on the popular Soul Togetherness series and then followed by the essential “Going Out Tonight” album soul fans and music connoisseurs all around the world have eagerly awaited new product, and various songs remixed by the legendary Tom Moulton on have whet our appetite ever since. The new album, the aptly titled “Back For More”, is here and boy are you going to love it! The bar has been raised, the gears shifted higher and the scene set for future greatness. These cats have laid down a series of party grooves with a seriously tasty guest list of soulful and funky vocalists to make you sit up and pay attention. Now, that's something a lot of today's R&B cannot do! The vibe is very much in an 80s setting, yet the sensibility is very much today. These boys understand the basics and know that great soul music is timeless...this is the Cool Million sound. Helping create their sound are a star-studded guest list Meli'sa Morgan has been a favourite of ours since she burst onto the scene with Alyson Williams and Erick McClinton as High Fashion. Her powerful, no-nonsense vocals grace the first lead single, “Sweet Baby”. Cool Million meet the As sassy and sexy as ever, Cool Million are a perfect match for her rip-roaring style. The wonderfully soulful Broomfield family are very much included on the album with Al Broomfield, Eugene Wilde and sister Dee Dee all gracing the songs “Loose”, “Back For More” all of which are going to become firm favourites on the quality modern soul scene. Cool Million have this knack of taking our favourite artists, giving them the groove that suits them, and to top it all drawing out and emphasising the best facets of that artist. The results are astounding and if in any doubt check out the killer duet “Loose”. Enough said! The UK's Noel McKoy is a point in fact. His smooth approach pitted against a slamming mid 80s Jam & Lewis type groove is simply sublime. Genius abounds on this CD. Yes, the album oozes class, and no-one is better to assist on this than Peggi Blu. Known for her 1980s sets for MCA and Capitol, and later Expansion in 2002, this Lady captivates us with the stylish and classy floater “I See You”. This will be a firm favourite on the quiet storm circuit for definite. The legendary Leroy Burgess woos us with “Cool Million”, his unique style perfect for the Cool Million sound, and helping to make today's music scene ever more vibrant and meaningful. The wonderful Rena Scott is also to be found with her sensuous yet boogie flavoured “Come 2 Me”. Newer names are also embraced and these artists fully carry the musical torch that is so important to the Cool Million ethos. The integrity of the past meets the talent of today and breeds hope for the future...and no-one can fault the brilliance of artists such as Jahah, Paul Mac Innes, Jeniqua, P.A.C.E., Laura Jackson, Yvonne Gage and Clare Evers. Combining the best vocal talents from all over the world, raising the musical bar and constantly setting the agenda and setting trends, Rob Hardt and Frank Ryle are set to dominate radio, dancefloors and CD players the world over. Years of experience, love for the music and creative skill are perfectly forged together in this CD project. We, as they, are definitely “Back For More”. Before embarking on a one-week hiatus, Don dropped by the studio to lay down some soul and disco jams. There's some tasty licks in here, but how many exactly? Ask Mr. Owl. We've got some killer cuts on Mel Cheren's West End Records, legendary cuts from Cerrone and Letta Mbulu, and an awesome gem from noted Mike Huckaby supporter, Tony Orlando. Speaking of Orlando, Orlando Riva Sound (ORS) checks in with a killer mix with Tom Moulton called Moon-Boots. Listen and love! Swishen and lurve! Before all of the technology of today, creating a mixtape took some dedication, because it took HOURS if not DAYS of your life away. Tom Moulton (a famous record producer) built one for the New York bar the Sandpiper in 1974. The music was beat matched and synced to keep people out on the dance floor. Ableton sei Dank.
