I rarely get a chance to stretch my after-hours musical muscles. I've probably played about 10 GUAPO PV events in Puerto Vallarta over the past 5 years but haven't yet posted one of my sets from here in Mexico. This one, however, felt special. (full disclosure: last year's NYE set didn't record due to a technical glitch)… but this set is me at my best… I am very proud of it. I put a lot of thought into all of my sets, especially for the JUICY and DEEP parties I've played in PV the last two years and I'm so excited to share this 3 hr+ one with the world. It's mostly a tech house set and the energy I got from the crowd all night was unparalleled. I saw so many wonderful friends out there all night as I looked around. If there was a main theme for the night's journey, it was my trademark sound of going “a little bit old school”... l always love sharing classics with the younger generation. You'll hear tracks (some, the originals… others, updates) like David Bowie's “Let's Dance” and Danny Tenaglia's “Elements” (both in my Intro), Honey Dijon's update of Kevin Aviance's “Cunty,” Technotronic's “Pump Up The Jam,” Alesso's new update on “Owner Of A Lonely Heart” by Yes, Size 9's “I Am Ready,” my PV update that I've played the past few years of Sweet Pussy Pauline's “Work This Pussy,” Butch's “No Worries,” Submission's “Women Beat Their Men,” Basement Jaxx's “Fly Life,” two versions mixed together of Shakedown's “At Night,” Peter Rauhofer's classic “Miracle” Mix” of Mariah's “We Belong Together,” (a remix I only save for very special occasions) - samples of Aretha, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Alanis Morissette, Natasha Bedingfield, Vicki Sue Robinson, Kiss - and two songs from The Beatles (I'll let “which two” be a surprise as you listen). There are more classics sprinkled throughout, as well as 5 or 6 of my own remixes or private edits.Another theme on this journey was “loneliness” - a feeling I battled hard in 2024, as so many of us have - and that many DJ friends of mine struggle with. This set is a reminder that music can always be there to carry us through and that none of us is truly ever alone. As the sun was rising from 7:30-8am, I switched gears to deliver a little magic for everyone who stayed ‘til the end. I ended my set (well, the 2nd to last song) with a new little edit I whipped up over the past two weeks of “Defying Gravity.” (which I'm still tinkering around with)... and the crowd reaction truly was everything I'd hoped for in that morning moment. Thank you to the entire GUAPO PV team for having me back again. Thank you to DJ Autogyro for starting the night with an amazing opening set. I hope everyone has a chance to enjoy this set for years to come. Please share it on social or leave a Comment if you do. I took the second half of 2024 off from DJing, (due to other life commitments) But I'm coming back strong in 2025. I'm now working with Javier Simons at Koq Agency for bookings. https://koqagency.com/ … and here's where you can hear me in the coming months!Jan 17th/18th - Aspen Gay Ski Week (Limelight apres skis)Jan 19th - The Chapel at the Abbey, West HollywoodFeb 1st - The Cuff Complex, SeattleFeb 15th - Afterglow, X Bar, Denver March 13th - Elevation gay ski week, Mammoth

Following up from The Best Of Hex Hector Part 1 comes The Best Of Hex Hector Part 2. This second part covers his remixes that move into the higher energy, higher BPM range. The set kicks off at 132 BPM and progresses up to the high 130's by the end. There are some absolute classic tracks here from artists such as Shannon, Faith Hill, Gloria Estefan, Whitney Houston, Angie Stone, Celine Dion and Britney Spears. I couldn't decide which Jennifer Lopez track to use so I put two on - ""Love Don't Cost A Thing" and her monster hit "Waiting For Tonight". I've placed a few male vocals on here as well including Ricky Martin, Kevin Aviance and Marcus. This set highlights the partnership that Hex Hector had with Dezrok as they worked together on many of these mixes. There are also a number of HQ2 mixes with Mac Quayle. This set is high NRG from start to finish and encapsulates the style I came to love from the one and only Hex Hector. "We were doing parties in Staten Island that were completely packed; Manhattan didn't want anything to do with us." Three New York visionaries discuss the city's '90s heyday. '90s nightlife in New York conjures images of Party Monster, jacking disco house and a rotating cast of mega clubs that saw thousands of revellers pass through their doors each weekend. From Limelight and Sound Factory to Palladium and countless others, clubbing was hitting its stride in New York, while producers like Joey Beltram, Frankie Bones and Damon Wild were producing game-changing 12-inches. But it was also the beginning of a decline, catalysed by the rollout of Mayor Rudy Giuliani's discriminatory policies that slowly gutted the club scene and the communities that called it home. To honour Resident Advisor's partnership with Wire Festival in Brooklyn this weekend, we're revisiting a panel recorded at our 24/7 party at Nowadays in 2018. We tasked the beloved Brooklyn fanzine Love Injection with presenting discussions covering five decades of dance music history. In this panel, Strictly Rhythm cofounder Gladys Pizarro, DJ and producer Lenny Dee and drag superstar and vogue performer Kevin Aviance spoke with journalist (and former RA staffer) Max Pearl about the rise and fall of the city's club scene during its golden decade. They also discussed how the city was sequestered, forcing many artists at the vanguard of '90s-era techno to make music and throw their own parties as the scene grew and shifted beneath the weight of city-wide reforms. "We were doing parties in Staten Island that were completely packed; Manhattan didn't want anything to do with us," said Lenny D. "So when we were doing it, we were making parties out in Brooklyn. A lot of music at that time was made here in Brooklyn—Joey Beltram, Frankie Bones, Tommy Musto, Damon Wild. So we had this scene where we're making great music, but no one's letting us play, so we're just going to do it ourselves." Listen to the episode in full.

It's time for the men to take centre stage on the dance floor and in this special edition of Men for World Pride in Sydney, that's exactly what they do. Keeping with the Pride Men theme, I've selected tracks from male artists who identify as gay, bisexual or non binary. The set kicks of with the incomparable George Michael and his mega hit song "I Want Your Sex" given a modern spin by Huffnpoof. Division 4 creates a fantastic cover of "You Don't Treat Me No Good" and Sam Smith's new track "I'm Not Here To Make Friends" is a club anthem. Darren Hayes features twice in this set, first up with his Savage Garden collaboration "I Want You" and later with "Step Into The Light". Dirty Disco features two excellent mixes for Erasure and Years & Years respectively. Magnus Carlsson released a song for Stockholm Pride with a great remix by SoundFactory and Ross Alexander covers "I Love My Radio" released in the 80's. One of my favourite male artists is Matt Zarley and his uplifting song "Somebody 4 Everybody" is brilliantly remixed by Moto Blanco. Chris Willis' hit "One Life" features here (I do love me some Chris Willis) and Tommer Mizrahi delivers two top mixes for Jason Walker and Kevin Aviance. The set closes out with the exquisite 7th Heaven remix of "Feel The Music" by Sean Ensign and an updated version of Sylvester's classic disco track "Mighty Real" mixed by Jet Boot Jack. Feel the music and feel the Men in this special World pride edition of Pride Men. When Beyoncé released her newest album, Renaissance, a few months ago, she paid homage to a culture that shaped who she became as a performer. In her liner notes she said: “Thank you to all of the pioneers who originate culture, to all of the fallen angels whose contributions have gone unrecognized for far too long. This is a celebration for you.” Today, we talk to one of those pioneers, Kevin Aviance. We learn how a young boy in Richmond, Virginia went from singing Aretha Franklin in his sister's dress to being inducted into the famed House of Aviance in Washington DC, and later sampled on the biggest album of 2022. We talk about the different schools of drag and how the scene has changed over the last 30 years. Does the mainstreaming of drag make the world a safer place?  Plus, hear the song that Beyoncé lifted up and celebrated on her track Pure/Honey.  Follow Kevin Aviance on instagram: @kevinavianceofficial Your host is Levi Chambers, founder of Rainbo Media Co. Shon speaks to New York-based drag artist and DJ, Kevin Aviance. When Kevin first found himself in Washington D.C.'s nightlife scene during the club kid era, he didn't expect drag to become his life or to be welcomed into the le-gen-dary ‘House of Aviance'. And he certainly didn't expect his brief feature in a Madonna music video to catapult him to fame.If this series is about meeting queer icons, Kevin Aviance is indeed that. His performances epitomise the dance culture of the 1990s and 2000s, when parties lasted all day and night, and dance floors were packed with the cities queer cliques. His story is also tinged with darkness and is a stark reminder of the threats our community still faces today but, as Kevin shows, you can't keep a good queen down. For more from Novel visit novel.audio Our GDPR privacy policy was updated on August 8, 2022. Party Favorz is back with volume three of the Ultimate 90's House Classics [1998 - 1999] and this set dives deep into progressive territory. We kick the party off with one of our all-time favorties 'Lately' by Divine with Joanathan Peters performing remix duties. With it's ubeat synths and fantstic harmonies — 'Lately' packed floor every time it dropped. Of course all the club favorites from this era are here like Faith Hill's 'Breathe' and the sweeping Hex Hector accompanying remix, 'Sexual' by Amber (a Thunderpuss instant classic), 'I Will Go With You' by Donna Summer that was packaged with the some of the biggest name DJs from that period, 'Someone To Hold' by Veronica showcasing Johnny Vicious' versatility who would go on to be an in demand DJ in the early millennium, Whitney Houston's defiant 'It's Not Right, But It's Okay' (another Thunderpuss instant classic that takes the R&B original and jacks it up by a factor of 100 while blowing a hole in the roof with Whitney's powerful vocals - thank you Clive) and the massive 'You're Still the One' by Shania Twain courtesy of Soul Solution. Some of you may be looking at this track list and scratching your heads over the inclusion of 'Ojos Asi' by Shakira. I grew up in South Texas and the Columbian born singer was already a massive star through Central America, Mexico and various pockets of the United States with large Latino populations. The song has a strong middle eastern sound and was not like anything else on her fourth album the critically acclaimed and multi-platnium 'Dónde Están los Ladrones? It was tacked on to what was otherwise a more rock and acoustic album that elicited comparisons to Alanis Morissette. Once the video dropped for 'Ojos Asi' all bets were off. The song blew up and Shakria had arrived. Under the tutelage of Emilio Estefan (husban of Gloria Estefan), Shakira was primed to cross over into the American market and it would be two years before she dropped her first English language album 'Laundry Service' in the states. The remix for 'Ojos Asi' is often credited to Thunderpuss but was actually Pablo Flores who was also producer on her album. The song was an instant floorfiller upon its release in 1999 and frankly, fits in nicely with the tracks that surround it. Before there was Todrick Hall or Lil Nas X — there was Kevin Aviance. 'Rhythm Is My Bitch' was his second of three #1 dance club hits, which followed his 80's remake 'Din Da Da' and was proceeded by 'Alive' in 2002 with two other top 5 releases 'Give It Up' and 'Strut.' He had a cameo in Madonna's 'Secret' video and has worked with Janet Jackson and Whitney Houston. He was also a member of the vogue-ball house 'House of Aviance' and was a gender bending leader who paved the path for others. Check out the video below: https://youtu.be/Nk7GilPqr1I I've still got two possibly three more sets to go in this series. I'm setting a goal of getting them all out this next week without sacraficing tracks or quality. It gets harder once you start getting to the bottom but I'm convinced I can work it out. It's always a sigh of relief when I finish one of these epic anthologies and I'm happy with the final product. Volume four of the Ultimate 90's House Classics showcases the splintering of the genre and how more progressive versions of House Music were suddenly taking over dance floors. Club 69 (a.k.a. Peter Rauhofer) who was generally a sexy house music production geared toward gay audiences, changed musical directions quite rapidly. Eventually, the productions became more progressive and frenetic, which would drive peak hour crowds into a tizzy. Club 69 hit it big with remixes for Funky Green Dogs "Fired Up" and Kevin Aviance "Din Da Da" amongst many others during this period. At the same time, Tony Moran, Junior Vasquez, Victor Calderone, Ralphi Rosario and Hex Hector were beefing up their sound while making it more palatable to a mainstream audience giving the genre and even further reach.  This is not to say the House Music in its purest form wasn't still king as evidenced by the multitude of #1 club songs included in this final set. But, this new sound was embarking on something much bigger that would eventually takeover not only the charts but dance floors in the coming years. Everyone found their place or shall I say true calling as a DJ and no longer were these guys just a DJ, two turntables and a microphone (thank you Beck). They were stars in their own right that could pack a venue. Perhaps the biggest contributor to their stardom was none other than Clive Davis of Arista records. He saw not just in terms of financial but the need to expand his diva roster's reach into the world of dance and by extension their popularity. After all, where would Deborah Cox be today if it weren't for him pushing her in both angles of R&B and Dance extending her visibility across boundaries. While Party Favorz enjoys all the various genres and tribute sets I put out from Trash Disco, 80's Dance, Eurodance and Trance — I have the most affinity with House Music and its various iterations. The Ultimate 90's House Classics series is dear to my heart. While this series is far from the last word on House Music (as there's just way too much to be included even if the artists and songs deserve it) — it's likely the closest you'll ever find in a comprehensive history of the genre. We still have two more years to go with 1998 - 1999, which are bound to bring back some fond memories for many of you. I'm not certain as to when I'll be dropping those but likely sometime in the summer or no later than early fall. I still have the Ultimate Trance series I've been teasing that I want to get out by the end of the year as well. Until then...ENJOY! With several podcasts and sets this summer dedicated to fluffy, feel-good, happy pride songs I decided to jump on the bandwagon (well, slightly that is) with my own 2011 Pride mix...however, mine has a slight variation... they all are Pride songs, yes - or rather - songs that have been mixed by one of my favorite DJ's/ Producers spinning Today: Edson Pride of Brazil - As you know I love most anything this guy releases so why not pay homage with a complete set of some of his current mixes playing on the floor this summer. Sit back, pop on your shades; bake, sizzle and fry in the sun as you get down to the funky beat of my Summer of Pride 2011 mix. Track List: 1) Edson Pride - Play My Music (Xookwankii In Amazonia Mix) 2) Empulse Feat. Zhana - Fight The People (Edson Pride Massive Mix) 3) Sophia Cruz - If This Ain't Love (Edson Pride Club Mix) 4) Beyoncé - Diva (Edson Pride Circuit Mix) 5) Bruno Knauer feat. Get your salad fork ready because New York City’s finest drag queen comedian, Hedda Lettuce is here! The obscene green queen who makes Halloween seem serene joins us on today’s show.Hedda was forged in the fires of AIDS activism and in the New York City Cable Access television scene of the early 90s. Fifteen years later Hedda’s still going strong, traveling the country with her hilarious stand up act, and is a six time winner of “Drag Queen of the Year” by HX Magazine.Hedda joins Marc Felion and me, Fausto Fernós to talk about why her hair is green, being Samantha’s boyfriend on the TV show “Sex and the City,” Miss Understood and running for President of the United States of America. We’re not sure if she’ll get on any ballot but she’s got my vote! As Hedda says, why be forced to choose between Hillary and Barack, when you can have both?Fausto Fernós, Hedda Lettuce and Marc FelionPictured here is a wonderful photo of the three of us taken by Sal-E at the Lakeshore Theater last month. Hedda’s show was hysterically funny as she spontaneously went from ribbing a gay couple sitting in the front row to being pummeled by twinkies.A ton of Chicago drag celebrities were there, including Sal-E, Kevin Aviance, Tina Torch, Velicity and Teriyaki. Why Velicity chose such a hard name to understand is beyond me, but Hedda explains it all.ATTENTION New York City listeners! Go check out Hedda’s hilarious act tomorrow night at the Vlada Lounge in the Hell’s Kitchen Neighborhood. Hedda is hilarious, you wont be disappointed. Show starts at 10pm. Vlada is one of my favorite places to visit, with cute customers and a fantastic selection of flavored, all-natural vodkas. Try a margarita made with gingered vodka. We have finally reached the end of 2002…yippee!  I think going forward, I'll split the annual editions up.  For instance, when I get around to 2003, I'll post the first three mixes one week, and the remaining volumes an alternate week about a month later.  Personally, I think posting everything all at once is a little too much, not to mention the time it takes to put it all together.  Regardless, I won't be doing 2003 anytime soon.  Instead, I'll probably do something like another 90s edition, but that won't be until July or so. In the meantime, I'm serving up the remainder of all that was good in 2002.  I do want to make one little side note that the classic “At Night” by Shakedown didn't make the cut because I couldn't work it in.  I wanted to mention it, so as not to think I had forgotten.  In fact, back in the day, I had made what I like to call the “orgasmic mix” of this song.  I always thought it needed a little something and the female moans starting in the middle to the end just seemed appropriate for the song.  I put this out on the net and the next thing I know it's was put to vinyl as a White Label release.  It kinda made me feel proud that people were diggin it, so one little pat on the back for me. Once again, I've managed to pack in some monster tracks from the year.  We have the alternate Moony track by DB Boulevard “Point of View.”  The Lange mix was a big ole trance number that I preferred over the more subdued house version of the original.  Then who could forget the big room tribal of “Dark Beat” by Oscar G. and Ralph Falcon?  Massive is what this song was and the Guisseppe D ‘Hands in the Air Anthem' was just that…a full out anthem.  Other big monsters were Mary J. Blige's “No More Drama” which by all accounts was about the drama, Kevin Aviance's “Alive” and the smoldering “You Got Me (Burnin' Up) by Funky Green Dogs.  Aside from you mainstream re-works by Daniel Bedingfield, Laura Pausini, Anastacia and Paulina Rubio we have some seriously addictive dark underground house by Cassius and Puretone.  “The Sound of Violence” was definitely dark and sinister while “Addicted to Bass” was just pure fun. With it's diversity in all things electronic, I believe 2002 was an outstanding year for club music.  Memories is what these mixes are made of and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did making them.  I'm going to be taking a few days off to re-charge my batteries.  I had held up the release of the BPM edition because there wasn't much worth putting together, even a month ago.  I can honestly say, that's all changed.  I've got a folder chalk full of new promos begging to be heard.  I'll try to go through them sometime this weekend.  My goal is to keep it down to no more than three mixes, so in order to make the cut, the song has to really hit me by the third note or it ends up in the recycle bin.  I'm going to relax a bit before heading out to the gym.  Rick and I will be going to see Star Trek later this afternoon.  I can hardly wait!  Two weeks later we get Terminator.  I guess I'm showing you guys my inner geek, but I love sci-fi and am particularly excited to see how they've moved a 40-year-old franchise forward.  I hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll be back sometime next week with the next BPM edition.  Until then…enjoy!
