This week, I'm thrilled to chat with Los Angeles-based producer, Billy Lefler. Billy has secured countless sync placements for his artists and collaborated with major publishers like Warner Chapel, Secret Road, and Position Music. We'll dive deep into the life of a highly successful producer and have a bit of fun along the way. In this episode, Billy and I reminisce about the iconic Death Star studio where we've both spent many nights recording. We explore what it's like to be immersed in LA's vibrant music scene and how it fuels creativity and opportunities. Billy shares invaluable insights on collaborating online versus in-person and the magic that happens when artists and producers can vibe off each other in the same room. We also discuss his approach to making music that resonates authentically, aiming for sync success without compromising artistic integrity. Tune in to learn from Billy's experiences and get inspired by his journey in the music licensing world. Guest Bio: Billy Lefler's journey through the music industry is marked by the accolades he's received and the platinum success of his projects. At the heart of his career lies a dedication to storytelling through sound, facilitated by his diverse roles predominantly as a producer, alongside being a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. From the indie pop charm of Ingrid Michaelson to the rock anthems crafted for Dashboard Confessional and the dynamic beats for Gym Class Heroes, Billy's adaptability shines through. Working with artists like Avril Lavigne, Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy, and America's Got Talent standout Mandy Harvey, he has showcased his capacity to excel across various musical landscapes. Billy's contributions have not only garnered industry accolades but have also made a lasting impact on the music scene. His production work on Ingrid Michaelson's hit "Be Ok" is a prime example of his talent for creating catchy, emotionally resonant tracks that connect with audiences far and wide. Moreover, his production efforts helped propel Laura Jansen's album Bells to platinum status in The Netherlands, solidifying his role as a pivotal figure in music production on an international scale. Beyond his collaborations with individual artists, Billy's skills and vision have been recognized and sought after by leading record labels and publishers, such as Warner Chappell, Secret Road, and Position Music. Billy Lefler's knack for sync licensing underscores his unparalleled ability to weave music into the fabric of popular culture. His success in securing placements for the artists he works with in TV shows, advertisements, and movie trailers include: Ad spots for McDonald's and Evian Water, episodes from "The Blacklist," "Grey's Anatomy," and "The Vampire Diaries," “Pretty Little Lies,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” “One Tree Hill,” “Switched At Birth,” “Smallville,” various movie trailer campaigns, and a significant highlight was the placement of Daniel Blake's cover of Dido's "Here With Me" in the season finale of the CBS show "Roswell." With over 125 million streams on Spotify, and a series of high-profile syncs in the US and abroad, Susie has quietly and organically grown her audience and reach. After being signed to Sony Epic Records for her self-titled debut album, Susie created her own label, Collective Records. Susie's instinct to produce and own all of her own music and content, with total control of all her creative choices—has allowed for a pure transmission of her artistry. The single “Here With Me” became an internet phenomenon after being featured on the first season of The Blacklist. And virtually every song on her second album, The Bakman Tapes, was licensed to film and television shows such as Parenthood, Awkward, Containment, and more. In 2021 alone she was added to more than 130,000 Spotify playlists with no touring, marketing, and no big “corporate machine” behind her. JC sat down with the singer/songwriter to talk about her label, how she's developed over the years and the future of the music industry. All of this and more on the latest episode of theFIVE10 podcast!

On this episode you'll meet me, O'Dell, the self-deprecating weirdo and host of the show. I just turned 50, and in the days leading up to that moment, I did a lot of soul searching and one of the things I reflected on the most was how I moved through life in a way that allowed me to not fully acknowledge my sexuality, and in turn, not accept myself for who I really am. Today, that will begin to change. I'm interviewed by Erin Stallings (one of my best friends from my time in Houston). While we only scratch the surface, you at least get a good idea of what things were like for me at times in my weird, sometimes scary, but wonderful life. Ultimate Trance Classics Volume 2 has been expanded to add the Tall Paul remix of the Trance classic 'Beachball' by Naline & Kane. Party Favorz is back with volume 2 of the Ultimate Trance Classics series and boy oh boy is this a HOT one! This set is packed form start to finish with some of the biggest Trance tracks from the 90's and early millennium. One notable exception is the uncredited trance remix of 'Thank You' by Dido. Anyone attuned to the radio or who was a club kid during the early 00's remembers the massive success of this woman who happens to be an inductee into our Diva Hall of Fame. She's also the sister of Faithless member Rollo who is prominently featured in this tribute series. She had already been riding high off of 'Here With Me' and after Eminem sampled 'Thank You' on his massive single 'Stan,' she exploded on MTV and radio taking the song to #1. The trance version was taken from an unofficial Russian EP that had official remixes from her album 'No Angel' but never had an official release. It's not clear if this is an original remix or a mashup but it's so good that it's worthy of inclusion because it's timely and fits right in with everything else. Keep in mind that Johnny Vicious had created a full-blown trance remix of 'Here With Me' that was already huge in the clubs so including this song just made sense. Otherwise, this set has got so many massive trance tracks included — it reads like a who's who of the DJs and artists who fueled the genre. I have to admit that I really dreaded re-doing this series and expanding on it because these songs are not the easiest in the world to mix. Most have no intro nor outro and clock in at a neck-snapping average of 138 bpm. Needless to say, I've been pleasantly surprised at how well this is all falling together — certainly better than my first effort in 2010. Frankly, I've exceeded my own expectations. Volume 3 and 4 will be dropping next week, which will finish out this series before we jump into Spring Break madness. Until then...ENJOY! As many of you may not know, Party Favorz hosting is up for renewal in a few days and it would be helpful if you could help pitch in to cover the costs. It’s time to loosen up in Maya Rodale’s “Wallflower Gone Wild” and “The Bady Boy Billionaire’s Girl Gone Wild” novella!Lady Olivia Archer locked eyes with a handsome stranger, only to be who her parents chose as her betrothed. Phinn, the Mad Baron, was not a prospect she wanted because of the rumors attached to him.The Mad Baron apparently had a big heart and was very sweet towards Olivia. He took care of her through the scandalous situations that friends had created. He even became her unknown rescuer when it really mattered.Although Olivia and Phinn’s friends had good intentions for their coupling, Olivia’s parents didn’t get the message that a couple meant only two people. Her parents meddling was over the top and sometimes "cringy." We wouldn’t want our own parents telling us Kama Sutra was not proper and we’re doing marriage wrong when we’ve always followed rules. It takes a good person and partner to help us through ordeals and tell us to “make our own rules, Angel,” so we could grow. As long as communication continues to grow in a relationship, they could get through any mishap amongst the ton. Join the ladies as they discuss how the least likely to cause a scandal got wild!Drawing Room Discussions –Friend of the Pod @BookstaKatieCheck out @buzzingaboutromance for the “Corset and Crowns Edition” linkKatie vacay with friendsWendy’s Mother’s Day callToni loving “Here With Me” by Samantha Young“OFFICIAL, UNOFFICIAL BOOK REVIEW”/LISTICLE – 4:34Featuring –Maya RodaleWallflower Gone WildThe Bad Boy Billionaire: Girl Gone Wild novellaBad Boys & Wallflowers serieswww.mayarodale.comwww.facebook.com/mayarodalewriterwww.instagram.com/mayarodalewww.twitter.com/mayarodale“POT-TAIL PONDERING” – 29:20Teremana Tequila Blanco and Reposadowww.teremana.comwww.instagram.com/teremanawww.twitter.com/teremanaWho’s sucks more: Benedict vs Sam#suckingface and #getaroomBoth Jane and Duke made grand gesturesBridgerton theories for Katie to ponderNext – “What a Wallflower Wants” and “The Bad Boy Billionaire: What a Girl Wants” by Maya RodaleHosts - Toni Rose & Wendy WooEmail - litwallflowerspodcast@gmail.comFollow on www.instagram.com/litwallflowerspodcastShop at https://www.zazzle.com/store/lit_wallflowers/productsWebsite https://linktr.ee/litwallflowersLit Wallflowers is part of the Frolic Podcast Network. Last week, I was catching up on the Hulu limited series "Little Fires Everywhere," a show set in the late 90's about the intertwined lives of a white and black family that touches on the lived experiences of both groups, while adding in enough suspense to keep viewers engaged week after week. Like all period pieces, the music in the series is lifted straight from that time but also features songs re-recorded likely due to rights issues. One of those songs was the excellent "Here With Me." Enter Dido into my collective conscious from stage left. DEBUT ALBUM AND SUCCESS In 1999, "Here With Me" was the first single from Dido's debut album "No Angel" and was a mild hit in the US but one of those songs that teenagers and young adults gravitate towards because of whatever emotional torment is going on in their angst-ridden romantic lives in that moment. It wasn't until Eminem, who was recording his own album at the same time heard "Thank You," where he sampled the first verse for his song "Stan," which became an international hit. Dido's label subsequently released the original version, which went on to become a #1 hit for the young singer propelling her debut to sell 21 million copies worldwide. Not unlike her earlier contemporaries, Dido sang about love and happiness but her strength is in songs of emotional despair that tear at the heart. I'd compare much of her work to three other Diva Hall of Fame inductees — Jewel, Robyn, and Sarah McLachlan, especially the latter. Jewel and McLachlan are both singer songwriters, while Robyn writes pitch perfect pop songs while embracing darker elements and experimental electronic sounds by working with alternative acts. Much like McLachlan, it's not a coincidence that her music was ripe for Trance remixes at the time of their release. Her wispy vocals with tales of heartbreak and fortitude were ripe for the genre. In fact, her brother is Rollo Armstrong, one half of the electronic dance group Faithless, who co-wrote and co-produced much of the songs on her first three albums. FOLLOW UP TO A BLOCKBUSTER ALBUM After touring for nearly two years supporting "No Angel," Dido took some time off and her next album "Life For Rent" didn't come out until 2003. In the music world, that was an eternity between albums but it was equally successful with the massive "White Flag," which is a personal all-time favorite. "I will go down with this ship, and I won't put my hands up and surrender. There will be no white flag above my door. I'm in love and always will be" The lyrics to this song alone are worth the price of admission into Dido's world. I will go down with this ship And I won't put my hands up and surrender There will be no white flag above my door I'm in love and always will be CURRENT DAY Last year, Dido released her first album in 15 years "Still On My Mind," and yielded the Billboard #1 Dance Club track "Give You Up," which served to remind us of her brilliant writing skills and let us all know that hey, she's still here and relevant. Indeed, she is. Currently, Dido has a single out with the group R Plus entitled "My Boy," which is stellar all by itself. The Meduza remix is featured here and frankly deserves much more attention than it's receiving as it's criminally underrated. [youtube v="JzJK31k8q6c"] Party Favorz would be remiss if we were to leave out one of the most influential if not important artists to emerge from the early millennium. It is with profound love and respect that Dido is inducted into the Diva Hall of Fame. ENJOY! Melbourne based DJ duo TRIKKI burst onto the scene in 2017 and are on the rise. Born and bred in the heart of Melbourne, music has always been a big part of the duo's lives. Growing up in such a rich culture of underground music piqued their interest in creating and performing. Having been in the industry for just over two years, they have quickly risen from bedroom DJ's to playing some of the biggest stages that Melbourne has to offer. These include residencies at prestigious venues such as Billboards, Level 3 at Crown, CQ, Brown Alley and the Royal Melbourne Hotel, as well as supporting the likes of Will Sparks, Timmy Trumpet and Joel Fletcher. Furthermore, the duo landed a slot at one of Australia's premier dance music festivals, Beyond the Valley. They have reached incredible heights in such a short amount of time. Adopting a more futuristic and electronic approach to house music, they aim to bridge the gap between the old school Melbourne Bounce sound of their roots and the current climate of popular electronic music worldwide. They released their most successful single to date ‘Meant to Be’ earlier in the year, and their follow-up single ‘Here With Me’ in early August, which featured on various blogs and radio stations. Their new single ‘Through the Dark’ is set to release in late October. This latest single aims to cultivate the powerhouse duo's unique sound.
On this episode of Inside MusiCast, we’re taking a trip to the smooth side of the jazz spectrum for an extensive chat with jazz trumpeter, songwriter, and vocalist, Rick Braun. However, 'smooth' doesn't pigeonhole Rick's music, as he incorporates a spectrum of jazz styles into his music, which is evident on his latest album "Crossroads" released a few weeks ago from Shanachie Entertainment. Rick also has an extensive resumé as a studio and touring musician, having recorded and performed with Crowded House, Natalie Cole, Glenn Frey, Tom Petty, Sade, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, and War, to name a few. He's also a good friend of Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon and co-wrote their Top 20 hit "Here With Me". Inside MusiCast is pleased to welcome, Rick Braun.
Leah Rantz sits down with Western Mass local artist James Paul to discuss new music and debut singles "Here With Me" and "Like Lovers Do"

This week, I explore the song… Here With Me. On the surface it may seem innocent, but a further examination leads to a murkier discovery hiding below. When entertaining darker themes in music we may be better able to understand the light.
Welcome back to Pilot Inspectors. For today's episode, we are returning once again to the late 90s WB for the pilot episode of the recently rebooted series Roswell, starring Shiri Appleby and Katherine Heigl. Today's intro music is "Here With Me" by Dido, the Rollo's Chillin with the Family remix.
In 2009 she signed with BSE Recordings and released her self-titled debut album the following year. The third single "Here With Me" reached #69 on Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first platinum-selling single. Arika Kane's second studio album, Substance, was released in 2012, which produced the hit singles "Waiting" and "Fight 4 Ur Life." Throughout her career Kane's music has been placed on several VH1 and MTV television shows, including Love & Hip Hop (NY), Basketball Wives and Single Ladies, among others. VH1 chose "Make It," a song from her debut album, as the theme song for Hollywood Exes and Atlanta Exes. She released the single "It's There" (featuring Brian McKnight) on March 18, 2014. The single will also be included on her third studio album Thru the Veil.

Justin Michael William’s newly remixed single “Here With Me,” we hear the shards of pain as he hopes for his love lost to return as he struggles to come to face with himself in a world that does not always make it easy to do so. LISTEN: Justin Michael Williams "Here With Me" https://soundcloud.com/wejustwill/here-with-me-sol-rising-remix The fresh take on the track was remixed by Sol Rising and places a more sonic and trap vibe on a gut wrenching melody. By doing so, Justinconveys the meaning of love lost and self-acceptance with a whole new undertone. In summary, the album “Metapmorphosis” channels classic elements of love, loss, and self-acceptance and is a brilliant examination of the human experience through Justin’s eyes. The newly remixed “Here With Me” is sure to both bring you solace and joy as it highlights the human experience through a ballad infused by a fresh and exciting trap beat. Maybe, just maybe, all those LGBT girls, boys, men, and women out there searching for themselves will hear this new track and find it just all little easier to carry on.
This week, we talk about the Best Year Ever Live Blueprint, how it went, and some goals that we wanted to make that we wrote on the last day of the conference. After that, we talked about the Christmas song "Here With Me", which is an original song that I wrote, and we even get to hear it in this episode! God bless you all, and Merry Christmas! Patreon, Facebook group, and so on will be at the end of the "Here With Me" song. Thanks for listening!
