Josh Hinger is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Andre Galvao from Atos BJJ in San Diego, California. A specialist in both the Gi and Nogi aspects of Jiu-Jitsu, Hinger won many important trophies as a middleweight competitor in the sport's international circuit, including a Three-Time IBJJF Adult Blackbelt Nogi World Champion.Born in the United States, he was raised in La Habra and was a competitive wrestler at Sonora High School in Brea. After finishing high school wrestling, Hinger met with an old team mate who introduced him to the world of Jiu Jitsu. Plus discussed new ADCC rules.In the news section of the show we discussed a new rule for ADCC that banned spiking and slamming from the backpack position. The Gianni Grippo rule a Maine dubbed it has gone into effect to prevent grave injury of competitors from this position after the slam occurred during the trials last week. Also in the news section we discussed Troy the Night Pigeon Everett receiving his black belt and how much Troy has done for the show as a support over the years.In the recap section of the show we discussed Raw Grappling first event that featured a Heavyweight tournament we discussed the quarterfinals where Josh Hinger took a close decision win over Bradley Hill, Patrick Gaudio winning a split decision over Thomas Bracher, Taylor Pearman submitting Steven Hill with a calf-slicer, and Yuri Simões defeating Jed Hue on points in the 2 minute overtimeIn the semi finals we talked about Patrick Gaudio defeating Josh Hinger via decision, after a deep heel hook attempt from Hinger, and Yuri Simões defeating Taylor Pearman on points in overtime. In the third place match we discussed a return to form from Josh Hinger that saw him submit Taylor Pearman with a modified guillotine. In the finals we saw Yuri Simões defeat Patrick Gaudio via a close decision. We also discussed the superfight between Lucas Barbosa and Gerard Labinski that saw Hulk set up a mounted armbar and finish, and Rafael Lovato defeating Adam Wardzinski ina very close match decided on 1 penalty.In the recap of the IBJJF GP we discussed both the middleweight and heavyweight GP. In the Middleweight Final we discussed Tainan Dalpra defeating Jonnatas Gracie with a choke from the back in impressive quick fashion, and Josh picks Dalpra to wins this next months upcoming worlds. In the Heavyweight Final we discussed the controversy over Victor Hugo Aoki lock finish of Mahamed Aly. We talked about the rules and the finishing mechanics of this particular foot lock, as well as some of the gray area surrounding why this particular submission is so difficult to define in the rules. Darrell And Professor Taylor Sausser talk with Professor Todd Williams Monroe Jiu-Jitsu founder Todd Williams is a Monroe, Michigan native that made his name through distance running. He was a state champion, All American at Monroe High School(1987) before moving onto even greater things where he made two United States Olympic teams in 1992 (Barcelona) and 1996 (Atlanta). After retiring from professional distance running in 2002 he immediately started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense training. After 6000 hours and 8 years of hard work, he received his black belt and certifications in self-defense from Legendary Coral Belt Luiz Palhares on January 22nd, 2011. At this point, Todd created RunSafer.com and began teaching runners, joggers, and walkers how to be safer while out exercising. He has conducted over 500 safety workshops in 35 states as well as instructing students in Jacksonville, Florida at the Luiz Palhares Academy. He also had the opportunity to instruct law enforcement as well the National Guard. Todd has trained and learned from some of the best in the world including world champions; Marcelo Garcia, Bernardo Faria, Wellington "Megaton" Dias, Andre Galvao, Saulo Ribeiro, Xande Ribeiro, Augusto Tanquinho, Helio "Soneca" Moreira, Lucas Lepri, Mikey Musumeci, Josh Hinger, and JT Torres. We also discussed a number of variations for this choke and some names that we have heard it called by over the years.In our discussion of Fellipe Andrew vs Max Gimenis We talked about the Ironclad positional work of Andrew from The Sweep to the maintenance of top mount and top position and generally being in control of the match from Bell to Bell. In our recap of submission underground 26 (SUG) We kicked it off of the discussion of the only submission in regulation on the card in Justin Renick defeating Phelan Carron via Armbar off of the cage, prefaced with some interesting commentary. We gave our thoughts on the Tag Team Main event that seemed very exploitable due to the rules. This event is headlined by former world champion Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes vs Marcelo Mafra, the Co-Main Event is another title bout Osvaldo Queixinho Moizinho vs Tiago Barros, and in the co-co main event we see another black belt title match between Tracey Goodell and Karen Antunes. There are more black belt matches than we have seen in a long time on this card. We run thorough CJJ worlds and talk about how Eddie Bravo has announced that EBI is coming back after all the CJJ champions are established. Then we briefly talk about the finals of SOGI 3.Then we talk about the first episode of the Shugyo Invitational including an Interview with the events promoter Phill Schwartz; where he shares a ton of information about the promotion and the pay structure and how the event works. This week on the show Maine and Emil recap all of the weeks professional grappling and preview the upcoming week’s marathon of events. This week on the show we recap King Of Mats Heavyweights in Moscow. Fight to Win 115 in Seattle Washington then we preview. SAGC that the Grappling Rewind team will be commentating, we also preview mid west finishers to the welterweights Fight To Win 116 in Richmond California. Third Coast Grappling 3, and have an interview with the president of the organization Ryan McGuire. First we kick off the news Rodolpho Viera has been signed by the UFC. Josh Hinger and Keenan Cornelius have started making a podcast. Kasai Pro 6 qualifiers have all been completed and the finalists are ready to battle it out. Alex Vianna is going to be on his own episode of the Grappler Union Podcast this week. After that we move into the recap section taking a look at you UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Jiu-jitsu pro tour. Heavyweights king of mats A vent that saw stand out João Rocha, and Kaynan Duarte is a series of matches, along with A few other notable matches. After that we move into the recap of F2W 115. Where we saw Nathan Orchard versus Dustin Akbari end with fireworks. And some outstanding judo matches from Maka Yacapin and Others. Also see Nathiely de Jesus retain her title belt for fight to win over Jessica flowers with an impressive knee bar finish. After that we move into the heavy preview section talking about SAGC that the team will be commentating on this coming weekend. This event features some stand out local talent and Andrew Kochel, Ellis Karadag, and Eric Naples. Then we take a look at the Midwest finish her second event featuring a 20 man welterweight bracket that is stacked with talented names such as David Garmo, both Tackett brothers are on the event, Jordan Peitzman, Pierre-Oliver Leclerc, Zach Edwards and more. After that we move onto FW2 116 being headline to by Tanner Rice vs Helton Jose Jr, and Marcos Torregrosa vs Pete Shoemaker. Rest of the card is loaded with other black belt matches, and rounded out with some great lower belts as well. Then we move onto Third Coast Grappling 3 featuring one of the craziest Maine cards we have seen in a while.
