Le reportage Afrique de ce jour nous conduit au Cameroun, pays d'une grande diversité culinaire traditionnelle, avec des spécialités tels que le taro à la sauce jaune, communément appelé « achu ». Ce plat a été vulgarisé ces derniers temps via les réseaux sociaux par les influenceurs locaux à travers le concept culinaire du « dimanche taro », sorte de brunch généralement à ciel ouvert et qui permet à la jeunesse camerounaise de redécouvrir la cuisine traditionnelle. À l'origine, ce plat issu des régions du Nord-ouest et de l'Ouest était servi lors des mariages traditionnels, des funérailles, des naissances ou encore certains rituels initiatiques. Grâce aux réseaux sociaux, le taro à la sauce jaune est plus qu'un facteur d'intégration culturelle pour la jeunesse. Reportage à Yaoundé avec notre correspondant Emmanuel Jules Ntap. De notre correspondant à Yaoundé, Emmanuel Jules Ntap Des sonorités musicales distillées par un disc-jockey accueillent, ce dimanche, quelques jeunes venus déguster le taro à la sauce jaune dans un restaurant situé au quartier Bastos, à Yaoundé. L'espace fait environ 100 mètres carrés où sont soigneusement rangées une trentaine de tables rectangulaires et carrées au milieu des chaises et canapés rembourrés. En cet après-midi, la présence de trois jeunes filles, la vingtaine révolue, ne passe pas inaperçue. Elles dansent, chantent et se prennent en selfies en attendant de passer à table. Larissa est l'une d'elles. « Nous sommes venues manger le taro comme d'habitude. Ce n'est pas un plat de mon aire culturelle, mais je trouve ce plat délicieux », confie-t-elle. La commande est prête au bout de dix minutes. C'est le moment de passer à table. Larissa est la première à déguster. « Regardez comment ma sauce déborde, humm c'est bon. Il y a le morceau de poulet, de viande, la peau de bœuf, le pistache, le piment. Je vais les déguster comme il faut », s'enthousiasme-t-elle. Cette spécialité culinaire n'a pas besoin de couverts pour être consommée. Démonstration avec Lucie, une jeune entrepreneure. « Je ne connaissais pas ce plat, mais j'ai appris, à travers les dimanches taro, la façon de manger avec ça : avec deux doigts, on rapproche le plat vers nous, on penche la tête et voilà. C'est un plat qu'on mange seul, en fait, on ne le partage pas », explique-t-elle. C'est le concept du « dimanche taro », via les réseaux sociaux, qui a suscité l'engouement de la jeunesse pour ce mets traditionnel. Moustik le Karismatik, jeune influenceur, en est l'initiateur. « La vérité est que ça permet de reconnecter les uns et les autres à leur culture culinaire. Ça leur permet de redéfinir leur identité », affirme-t-il. Pour les experts de la gastronomie, la sauce jaune a aussi le mérite d'avoir des vertus dont on ne parle pas encore assez. Émile Engoulou, hôtelier-restaurateur et président de l'Association des chefs, cuisiniers et pâtissiers du Cameroun, souligne ses bienfaits. « Les 16 à 14 ingrédients qui constituent le mélange donnant la sauce jaune sont chacun un aliment. Donc, le ''achu'' est vraiment une bombe médicamenteuse, un ''alicament'', comme disent les savants », précise-t-il. Plus de dix caravanes culinaires pour la dégustation du taro à la sauce jaune ont d'ores et déjà été organisées dans trois villes du Cameroun, avec chaque fois une forte affluence de la jeunesse. Suzi talks to Brazilian political economist Pedro Paulo Zahluth Bastos who says this new “Donroe Doctrine” is openly transactional, unapologetically imperial, and signals weakness: a declining hegemon turns to force to secure oil, minerals, and supply chains. We discuss why Venezuela was targeted, how China figures centrally in US strategy, and the trouble of defending Maduro in the name of “anti-imperialism.” That question — how to oppose US imperialism without defending corrupt regimes — leads directly to Ukraine. Denys Pilash of Ukraine's democratic socialist organization Sotsialnyi Rukh draws on his scholarly work on Venezuela. He is speaking from Kyiv in blackout conditions, under bombardment and infrastructure attacks. We discuss why the struggle against Maduro's government and the struggle against American imperialism are not opposites, but two sides of the same conflict, in which people become pawns in political games. Pilash says for this reason, as internationalists, "we must speak out in solidarity with the people of Venezuela, the same solidarity that Venezuelans showed towards Ukraine in its resistance to Russian aggression."
