Welcome to Episode 147 of the ShiftLess Podcast! This week, we're serving up a heavy dose of mental gymnastics, cycling industry conspiracy theories, and... dry-cured meats?Bradford gives us an update from the "cure room," but the real meat of the episode is Kevin's massive hot take on the sudden explosion of the 32-inch gravel bike hype. After the absolute dominance of the Specialized Crux at Unbound Gravel (taking 4 of the top 6 spots), are competitors like Scott and Trek pushing 32-inch prototypes as vaporware just to freeze Specialized's sales momentum? We break down the timeline, compare the 32" hype machine to the slow burn of the original 29er mountain bikes, and discuss whether the industry is actually innovating or just scrambling for survival.Plus, we talk Keegan Swenson's Unbound tactics, the upcoming Tour Divide, and why flat-bar drops might be the next frankenbike trend at Leadville.Disclaimer: We aren't industry insiders. This is just our opinion, our observations, and a lot of unapologetic bike nerdery.Join the Pack: Check out upcoming grassroots gravel & ultra-endurance events at Spinistry.netListen on the Go: Find ShiftLess on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and wherever you get your audio.#GravelCycling #32InchBike #SpecializedCrux #UnboundGravel #ShiftLessPodcast #CyclingIndustry #BikeTech #GravelRacing #MountainBiking #TourDivide #ScottBikes #KeeganSwenson #Bikepacking #CyclingPodcast #SpinistryShiftless Ep. 147: Salami in the Cure Room, Unbound Debrief, and the 32-Inch Gravel ConspiracyIn Episode 147 of Shiftless, the hosts open by disclaiming they're sharing opinions, then detour into Bradford's “cure room” and his salami projects (beef, Calabrian pork tenderloin, and ventricina-style), explaining drying to ~40% loss and vacuum-sealing to equalize moisture. They pivot to bicycles with an Unbound debrief and a debate over 32-inch wheel hype, noting only one appeared in the pro race while Robin won XL on a Scott 32-inch prototype. They argue the new Specialized Crux dominated results and discuss team dynamics, marketing, and concerns about Specialized dealer pricing. Kevin proposes a conspiracy that 32-inch hype was amplified to slow Crux momentum among early adopters, while Bradford contends big brands are quietly developing 32s and hype moves faster now. They also preview a delayed Tour Divide episode, discuss parts availability for 32s in ultra events, note tracking tools, and touch on Leadville's drop-bar ban.00:00 Rolling in HD00:23 Opinions Disclaimer01:22 Cure Room Salami02:26 Salami Tasting Notes04:52 Back to Bicycles05:57 Unbound 32 Inch Recap07:02 Team Orders Talk09:23 Specialized Dealer Drama10:50 Crux Dominates Unbound11:40 Tour Divide Plans12:46 Marketing and Tire Clearance16:24 32 Inch Hype Timing22:23 Vaporware Argument23:21 Boutique vs Big Brands26:50 Fads and Fueling Trends28:52 Who Drives the Hype30:11 Sea Otter Reality Check30:55 Will Big Brands Debut 32s34:30 Hype Cycle vs Reality38:25 Development Cycles Explained39:03 MTB Platform Confusion39:41 Scott 32 Prototype Strategy44:19 Hype Cycle vs Reality48:36 Tour Divide Practicalities53:25 Salsa Size Debate55:23 Bikepacking Bags and Fit57:03 AC Troubles and Costs01:02:00 Industry Survival and 32 Adoption01:09:01 Leadville Bars and Specialized01:12:48 Unbound Results and Rider Stories01:19:42 Tour Divide Lists and Tracking01:21:52 Wrap Up and Sign Off
Agentic AI is likely the most hyped technology in enterprise IT, but its long-term potential is still just as real. In this episode of Gartner ThinkCast, Distinguished VP Analyst Rajesh Kandaswamy breaks down the 2026 Hype Cycle for Agentic AI — what it is, why it matters, and how leaders can separate real opportunity from market noise. From rising investment interest to the challenges of governance, integration and scale, this conversation unpacks where organizations are today — and what comes next. You'll learn: What Gartner Hype Cycles reveal and how to use them effectively Why agentic AI is at peak hype, but still early in adoption The real barriers to success: governance, guardrails and clean data How to identify high-value use cases and avoid "agent washing" Dig deeper: Download the full Hype Cycle for Agentic AI See why Gartner is the world authority on AI Try out AskGartner for more AI-powered insights
Demetrick, Dr. Corey Petty, and Jesse are joined by founder and investor Joe for a conversation that cuts through sixteen years of crypto noise with one provocative thesis: crypto is only about trading.Joe walks the guys through all five hype cycles, from Silk Road to Mt. Gox to the 2017 ICO mania to NFTs to today, and shows how the top of every cycle has been defined by a single dominant trading narrative. Everything else, he argues, is undercurrent. The conversation traces how he arrived at this conclusion after the chaos of ETHDenver 2023 sent him back to first principles, including the poker code buried in the original Bitcoin commit. From there the guys get into where the next hype cycle is forming. Joe demos a tap trading app he is building that strips away every chart, button, and knob until trading feels closer to a mobile game than a Bloomberg terminal. Green for good, red for bad, prediction markets baked in. The crew riffs on PVP tournaments, head to head trading streams on Twitch and Kick, and why apps optimized for volatility win when traditional markets get quiet.Plus: Anatoly's legendary bag working of Hyperliquid on Solana, why a normal person will never love a candlestick chart, and Corey announces he is winding down Archivist and open sourcing the IP.Drop questions in the YouTube comments. Tim Cook is stepping down in September, and The Trio has plenty of thoughts on what the Ternus era means for Apple. Kotaro dives into his embedded systems rabbit hole (Raspberry Pis, ESP32s, and a Godot refresher), while Steve sounds the AI hype alarm, comparing the current frenzy to NFTs and the Metaverse, complete with a shoe company that somehow pivoted to GPU data centers on a $50M budget. AXT Inc. (AXTI) ran from a $200 million market cap to over $4 billion in a matter of months. Now it's pulled back — and a lot of retail investors are wondering if it's a buying opportunity.CSI says: not so fast.In this episode, they pull back the curtain on the base materials layer of the semiconductor supply chain — the specialty wafer and ingot suppliers that exist before a single chip ever reaches a fab like TSMC or GlobalFoundries. It's a part of the industry that rarely gets coverage, and right now it's generating some of the most speculative price action in the entire semiconductor market. They break down exactly what AXT does, why Indium Phosphide (InP) and Gallium Arsenide are driving the hype, and why the fundamentals don't yet support the valuation. The issues are serious: a third of revenue blocked by geopolitical export restrictions, negative free cash flow history, a $60M backlog that requires a $100M greenfield fab to convert into actual revenue, and a recent dilutive stock issuance. The same warning flags are appearing in other specialty names like IQE in the UK.The bigger picture: this is what a bull market hype cycle looks like at the base materials level. The market is good at sniffing out bottlenecks — but traders and long-term investors diverge sharply at a certain point, and Nick and Kasey explain exactly where that line is.They close with where they'd rather put capital today: Broadcom, Coherent, Lumentum, and Sumitomo Electric. What we cover:— The semiconductor wafer supply chain: ShinEtsu, Siltronic, Sumco, Global Wafers, Soitec— Specialty compound wafers: what InP and GaAs are and why data centers need them— AXT Inc. revenue reality vs. the $4B market cap narrative— The China JV geopolitical risk blocking ~33% of revenue— Free cash flow, dilution, and the greenfield fab dilemma— IQE and other penny stock warning signs in the sector— Where Nick and Kasey are deploying capital insteadDisclosure: Nick and Kasey hold positions in Broadcom, Coherent, and Lumentum. Welcome back to the Crushing It In Construction Podcast! This episode is a bit of a crossover between construction and technology, and it's one I've been looking forward to.I sat down with Jeff Sample, who works with Bluebeam and is also the host of the ConTechCrew podcast. Jeff has spent the last decade operating at the intersection of construction and technology, helping contractors make sense of tech without the hype.Jeff's time working inside a masonry contractor gave him a clear view of how technology actually lands in the field, not just how it is sold. That experience shaped how he thinks about tech adoption, process, and where most construction businesses go wrong. We talked about why construction tech exploded so quickly, how venture capital misunderstood the industry, and why many contractors became sceptical after being sold tools that promised everything and delivered very little.Jeff also shared what genuinely excites him about where construction is heading, including the shift toward prefabrication and design for manufacturing, and why that change could reshape the industry far more than any new app.Connect with Jeff Sample:LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/ironmanofitPodcast: https://thecontechcrew.com/Connect with Jordan Skinner:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jordanaskinner/Website: https://moonshotmedia.com.au/Do you have an influential personal brand?Take the quiz to find out:http://www.constructingaleader.com/quiz

This past week, Time magazine named "The Architects of AI" its 2025 Person of the Year, even as the stock market wobbled with fears of an artificial intelligence-fuelled bubble. One way to help make sense of this moment is a tech industry concept known as the "hype cycle." As The Sunday Magazine's Pete Mitton explains, the time-tested idea suggests that, as with other new technologies before it, a crash of expectations – and markets – will likely arrive long before we truly understand how to live with AI. Until then, it's important to understand how the cycle works – and some of the unique dangers AI hype presents.

I unpack my growing frustration with AI—not from a place of fear, but from lived creative experience. Everyone keeps insisting AI is the future and that we all need to jump onboard right now, but I'm not convinced that being an early adopter is automatically the smart move… especially when even the companies building these tools aren't demonstrating real workflows. They just tell us: “Go experiment.”Meanwhile, the biggest gap I feel every day is that AI still can't revise or iterate in a precise, grounded, multimodal way across text, images, video, and audio. Until it can work the way real creative processes work—revision after revision, nuance after nuance—it's not actually helping me build the specific things I want to build. And then there's the ethical mess. Everyone says their models are “ethically sourced”… but what does that even mean? Who's verifying it? Is that just another marketing phrase we're being conditioned to accept? This episode is not a takedown of AI. It's a conversation starter. A recalibration. A place to voice the tension between realistic skepticism and genuine curiosity. AI isn't going away—but neither should our questions, boundaries, or standards.I'd love to hear your perspective:-Are you using AI in a way that genuinely helps you?-Do you feel pressured by the hype?-Any podcasts, books, YouTube videos, or thinkers you recommend for a more grounded view?Drop your thoughts in the comments or send me a message. Let's keep the conversation going.
Advances in quantum computing by 2029 will weaken and break the conventional asymmetric cryptography that underpins many authentication methods, Gartner has warned, significantly reducing their credence and increasing exposure to account takeover risks. The analyst firm's Hype Cycle for Digital Identity 2025 highlights the importance of post-quantum authentication (PQA), also known as quantum-safe authentication, which incorporates post-quantum cryptography to mitigate attacks using quantum computing. You can listen to all of the Quantum Minute episodes at https://QuantumMinute.com. Please keep us independent by supporting us.Jobst Landgrebe, a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Philosophyat the University at Buffalo specialising in the philosophy of AI, complexsystems, and the ontology of physics and mathematics, elaborates on theconcept of "hype cycles" which he explores in his book "The Hype Cycle."Jobst describes hype cycles as cultural and scientific phenomena that are usedto govern societies in the absence of traditional faith or fear-based governance. He argues that these cycles are often manufactured by elites to create a stateof emergency, compelling people to conform to certain political agendas. Jobstdistinguishes between scientific hypes, like climate change and COVID-19, andcultural hypes, such as diversity and inclusion.Whilst some hype cycles may have organic roots, he suggests they are oftenexploited by rulers to reinforce their power. The discussion moves on to thecyclical nature of hypes, with Jobst noting that they repeat over time withchanging content, before emphasising the importance of resisting particularlyharmful cycles.
In this Thanksgiving replay, we revisit our conversation with Paul Shapiro, co-founder and CEO of Better Meat Co, who's pioneering the use of mycelium-based proteins as a sustainable alternative to animal meat. Paul shares his remarkable journey from starting an animal welfare organization in high school to becoming a biotech entrepreneur. He explains how fungi fermentation creates protein-rich, meat-like textures in less than 24 hours without the environmental toll of traditional agriculture. The episode explores the science behind mycoprotein, the challenges facing the alternative protein industry, the need for government investment in biomanufacturing, and why fungi may be the key to feeding both Earth and future space travelers. Paul also discusses Better Meat Co's recent $31 million Series A funding and their mission to make sustainable protein accessible at scale.Grow Everything brings the bioeconomy to life. Today's episode questions whether AI is delivering on all those big promises. There's been a lot of talk in the industry recently—everything from the "doom cycle of AI" to conflicting opinions on what AI is actually capable of right now. Are we in the trough of disillusionment? Are we overselling the tech? Or are we undervaluing the real impact it's having behind the scenes? To help break this down, I'm joined by two great guests: Michael Evers, CEO at Thread and Mark Alayev, co-founder and Chief of Magic at Thread. We dig into real-world examples, why so many AI projects are considered "failures," and how the key to success just might be integrating AI into actual business workflows, rather than just handing people shiny new tools and hoping for the best. We also touch on the future of AI—not just software, but what happens when it starts interacting in real life. Robots, manufacturing, the evolving workforce—you name it. This is a fun, honest conversation about the messy middle we're living through, and where we're headed next with AI. This episode is brought to you by Opsleader Pro.

In this episode of The Ross Simmonds Show, Ross cuts through the overwhelming noise around AI in marketing to reveal what's real, what's useful, and what's pure hype. From AI-fueled content creation and personalization to ads, analytics, and the dangers of AI deepfakes, Ross shares his honest take on how marketers can harness AI effectively—without losing their creativity (or their jobs). Hint: AI isn't here to replace great marketers, but it will expose mediocre ones. Whether you're feeling FOMO about AI tools or tired from constant information overload, this episode offers grounded insights and an actionable roadmap for embracing AI in a sustainable and meaningful way. Key Takeaways and Insights: Understanding the Current AI Hype Cycle AI is at the peak of inflated expectations. Nearly every tool is rushing to add AI capabilities. $10B spent in AI implementation efforts by consulting firms. The opportunity is real—but so is the noise. Content Creation: The Draft, Not the Director Tools like ChatGPT, Jasper, Rytr, SEMrush, and HubSpot offer “okay” drafts. Great marketers use AI for first drafts, then add emotion, creativity, and data. AI helps compress content production time significantly. Key quote: “The AI tool is not your creative director.” Repurposing & Distribution at Scale One of the best use cases for AI in content marketing. Turn one podcast into dozens of social assets, short videos, quotes, etc. Old content can be brought back to life using AI. 24/7 brand promotion equals scale and efficiency. AI for Creating Visuals & Ads Tools now allow marketers to generate images and mock ads from product photos. Emerging use case: image creation with tools like ChatGPT's DALL·E. AI lowers cost and time for creative asset generation. AI-Powered Insights from Data AI can identify behavior trends, segment audiences, and support lead scoring. Automate personalized communications triggered by user behavior. In-depth AI-based customer feedback analysis is now possible. Reminder: "Good data = good AI." Personalization: Right Message, Right Time AI enables highly tailored emails, landing pages, and even video messages. Important: Avoid going too far or getting creepy with data usage. Balance personalization with ethics and relevance. The Fluff: SEO Snake Oil & “Turnkey” Strategies Beware of tools promising 10,000 blog posts and instant rankings. "Hallucination" risk with auto-generated content hurts SEO in the long run. One-click marketing strategy generators? Hard pass. Deepfakes & AI Influencers Increasing use of AI-generated personas to push products deceptively. Danger of consumers being misled by realistic but fake endorsements. The Future of Marketing & AI AI will not replace everyone—but will replace some. “It's a force multiplier for the great. A replacement for the mediocre.” Use AI to do more, faster—but don't skip thinking and strategy. To thrive, marketers must master the human elements: storytelling, empathy, strategy, and creativity. Between 2013 and 2023, cultivated meat companies raised a total of nearly $3 billion. In 2020, Singapore approved the world's first cultivated meat products, with the U.S. and Israel following close behind. But head to the meat department of any American grocery store today, and you won't find cultivated meat for sale. After short-lived restaurant tasting menus in the U.S., it's no longer available. Distribution in Singapore is growing but small, and no products have launched in Israel yet. So what happened to the high hopes for cultivated meat? And what comes next for the industry? In this episode, Shayle talks to Isha Datar, executive director of New Harvest, a non-profit focused on developing research in the industry. She has written blog posts arguing that the industry is in the start-up hype cycle's “trough of disillusionment.” She calls for focusing on basic research, targeting high-value products, and even adopting a different name — cellular agriculture — to signal a shift toward a broader set of biotech products and techniques. Shayle and Isha cover topics like: What went wrong with the first-generation startups focused on low-value, whole-meat products like beef and chicken Persistent challenges in the industry, like the siloing of expertise, scarcity of research funding, and lack of standardization Why she's hopeful about a more diverse second generation that's focused on high-value products like sashimi and foie gras and biotech ingredients like fetal bovine serum and cell culture media The cellular agriculture cost stack and the $30,000 batch of cookies Basic research, shared resources, and the standardization needed to bring down costs Recommended resources New Harvest: Where Are We On the Hype Cycle?
