In the latest episode of the WGI Unleashed Podcast, hosts Dan and Katie head back to South Florida to sit down with Susanna Coleman, an Administrative Assistant in WGI's Fort Lauderdale office! Susanna's story is one of curiosity, reinvention, and an unshakable love of learning. From the south side of Chicago to the shipyards of Scandinavia, Susanna has lived what she jokingly calls "several lives" — and each one has shaped the curious, people-loving teammate she is today. This is one conversation you won't want to miss. From the South Side of Chicago to South Florida Born and raised in a tight-knit, blue-collar suburb just south of Chicago, Susanna grew up as a self-described "total '80s kid." She and her sister walked to school, rode bikes around the neighborhood, and stayed out until their mom called them in. Family and culture were at the heart of it all. Her father immigrated from central Mexico in his twenties, and with both sides of her family rooted in Mexican heritage, Susanna grew up immersed in the culture, the language, and the food. Each year, the family made the epic three-day drive from Chicago to Celaya, Guanajuato — armed with coloring books, crayons, and a lasting appreciation for the great state of Texas, which never seemed to end. Even as a kid, Susanna sensed that Chicago wasn't her forever home. Standing at a bus stop in negative-degree weather, she remembers thinking, "There has to be something better." That instinct would eventually carry her south. Several Lives, One Common Thread After heading to Southern Illinois University, Susanna earned a degree in photo production technology, the technical, chemistry-driven side of photography. A professor's recommendation led to her first career with Noritsu, a company that manufactured one-hour photo lab equipment. For the next nine years, she traveled the world installing and balancing photo equipment, covering Central and South America and even outfitting brand-new cruise ships in the shipyards of Finland and Sweden. She filled two passports and visited nearly every country in Central America along the way. When the photo industry went digital, Susanna took a leap. A lifelong lover of teaching and the outdoors, she found her place at Camp Live Oak, operating out of Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale. What began as an on-site director role grew into 18 years as associate director. She did a little of everything, from canoeing and archery to art and science, and shepherded the camp through its rigorous American Camp Association accreditation every three years. Ready for a change after nearly two decades outdoors, Susanna spent three years as a clinic manager at a health and wellness practice, sharpening her operations and HR skills before realizing healthcare wasn't her long-term fit. Finding Her Place at WGI The throughline in every chapter of Susanna's career is simple: she loves to learn. "If the subject interests me, I will dive in headfirst," she says — reading, asking questions, and digging into the "why" behind everything. That same curiosity is exactly what she brought to WGI. This August will mark three years with the firm, and Susanna says she's finally fluent in the acronyms and the surprising amount of work that goes into building a road (IYKYK). No two days look the same. Susanna keeps the office running while managing events and conferences across WGI's Customer Support Manager, supporting HR initiatives, helping plan Engineers' Week, and lending a hand wherever her teammates need her. As one of WGI's busiest hosting offices, Fort Lauderdale always has something happening, and Susanna is often the person behind the scenes making sure it all runs smoothly. Life Outside the Office These days, much of Susanna's time is happily spent at the ballfield, cheering on her daughter's softball games and her son's travel baseball. When she carves out time for herself, she returns to her first love: photography. She's an active member of 52 Clicks, an Instagram community of photographers who shoot a new themed prompt each week and trade feedback. Her medium of choice is black-and-white portraiture, and she's planning a portrait series of her book club friends, complete with a small gallery opening at the end of the year! At home, she's joined by Lupita, a 12-year-old boxer mix affectionately known as "Lupita La Loca." And her hidden talent? Susanna is a gifted party host — a skill she credits to her mother. She has a knack for making everyone feel welcome, connecting guests who might never have met otherwise, and bringing the energy the moment the party starts. A Few Fun Surprises True to WGI Unleashed form, the episode is packed with games and a few great reveals. Susanna is fully confident she'd survive a zombie apocalypse (camp-director skills, a trusty sword, and all), and she nearly stumped Dan and Katie with a round of Two Truths and a Lie. Did she go to high school with a young Kanye West? You'll have to listen to hear the rest. Tune In Susanna's journey is a reminder that there's no single path to a meaningful career. Sometimes it's the curiosity to keep learning and the courage to reinvent yourself that lead you exactly where you're meant to be. Today, it is my pleasure and honor to speak with John A. Warnick. John A. is a celebrated leader and founder in the family wealth professional space, and an inspiration to many of us in our niche field. He has practiced as a tax attorney for over 45 years and has published articles in law reviews, Trust and Estates magazine and the Journal of Practical Estate Planning. He worked as a legislative assistant on Capitol Hill in the 1970s and was a legal intern in the office of the Administrative Assistant to the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1973. In 2010 John A. founded the Purposeful Planning Institute which today is the largest multi-disciplinary educational institute (non-profit) focused on best practices for UHNW and HNW families with over 525 members in the U.S. and nine countries internationally. He was also a co-founder of the Collaboration for Family Flourishing (CFF) and served for four years on the Board of the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy. He was nominated as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 1994 and has chaired two subcommittees within ACTEC, the Legacy and Generational Planning Subcommittee of the Practice Committee and the Family Dynamics Subcommittee of the Business Planning Committee. In 2017, John A. received the Scott Fithian Leadership Award from the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy and served on the Board of Directors of that organization for four years. He has served on the Planned Giving Advisory Council of the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia since 2015. John A. is the author of two Tax Management portfolios and more recently has self-published The Purposeful Trusts and Legacies Handbook and is currently working on two book projects, The Gift of You, and the New Vocabulary of Family Wealth. John A. is a good and long-time friend of FOX and we are privileged to have collaborated with him and with PPI repeatedly throughout the years. Purpose is often cited as one of the key pillars of long-term success for multigenerational families. John A. dedicated much of his professional work on bringing purpose to families and the advisors who serve them – particularly as the founder of the Purposeful Planning Institute. He elaborates on the importance of purpose for families and their advisors and talks about why it is important to be purposeful as a family leader or wealth advisor. He also highlights the distinctions between purpose, values, and mission since these are often lumped together and not always fully understood. John A. has pointed to the significance of family traditions and rituals as powerful tools for establishing and living the family purpose. He describes why rituals are important and how they help families crystallize their purpose and values and pass them on across generations. Conversely, he points out what happens if traditions become performative or imposed on the family, rather than genuinely meaningful. John A. shares some examples of family traditions that he has encountered over his decades of work with UHNW families and outlines the impact of these traditions on the family and the changed that resulted from these shared rites. John A. has formulated five suggestions for trustees, including corporate and professional trustees, as well as PTCs, related to helping the families they serve define and fulfill their shared purpose. He provides an overview of these practical resources and describe how they can be put to use in support of the family's success and wellbeing. Do not miss this opportunity to hear from one of the most respected founders and premier thought leaders of the family wealth space.

197: What if the most underrated role in leadership is actually the one that makes everything run? In this episode of Executive Office Insights, Joe Davis (Senior Advisor, former Managing Director & Senior Partner, and North America Regional Chair Emeritus, BCG) and Mary Kate Steincke (Administrative Services Manager, former Senior EA) unpack what real executive support looks like when it evolves into true partnership. You'll hear how high-performing leaders and EAs build trust, decision rights, and a shared operating rhythm. The best support isn't "task help," but a strategic advantage that protects focus, energy, and outcomes. They also explore the leadership mindset behind great partnerships: mentorship without strings attached, honest feedback, and the human side of high standards—the kind of principles that shape culture and careers. Finally, they look ahead at how AI and modern tools are changing admin work, what will (and won't) be automated, and what skills will matter most for the next generation of executive support professionals. What to expect in this conversation: - Executive Assistant → Executive Partner: What makes the shift happen? - The leadership behaviors that create trust (and the ones that break it) - Career paths, titles, and what "progression" can really look like - AI, automation, and the future of the EA/admin function About Joe Davis Joe is a Senior Advisor at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and a former Managing Director & Senior Partner, where he worked for 37 years. He founded and is Chair of BCG's Center for Inclusion and Equity (CIE). He co-founded and later led BCG's Washington, D.C. office, and founded BCG's U.S. Public Sector Practice. Joe served as Chair of BCG North America, responsible for operations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. As Regional Chair, he advanced inclusion, diversity, and racial equity by launching BCG's Racial Equity Task Force, publishing BCG's first public U.S. DEI Report, and founding BCG's CIE (where he currently serves as Chair). His client work focused on the Consumer/Retail, Public Sector, and Organization Practices, primarily on fundamental transformations, change, and organizational effectiveness. Outside of BCG, Joe serves as Chair of the Whitman College Board of Trustees and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Joe and his spouse Sarah have four children and eight grandchildren. He published The Generous Leader: 7 Ways to Give of Yourself for Everyone's Gain in April 2024. About Mary Kate Steincke Mary Kate is an Administrative Services Manager at BCG with more than eight years of experience supporting senior leadership and driving administrative excellence across the NAMR region. Since joining BCG in 2017, she has worked in Administrative Services—starting as an Administrative Assistant and later becoming an Executive Assistant and Senior Executive Assistant (plus Specialist-level roles)—while supporting Joe Davis, BCG's North America Regional Chair. She managed complex, high-stakes calendars, communications, leadership meeting rhythms, and onsite support for major regional events and executive visits. Her work ranged from strategic prep for leadership engagements to orchestrating multi-layered client meetings, regional town halls, cohort forums, and cross-office initiatives, with high precision and ownership. She's recognized for creating order, clarity, and calm, and supported large-scale operational efforts including COVID-19 response coordination, regional communications, digital signage programs, and leadership forums, while mentoring new administrative staff and shaping a cohesive cross-office experience. She built training initiatives for the NAMR Administrative Services cohort, including a new series on supporting BCG's Managing Directors and Partners that is now a Regional offering. Colleagues praise her grace, empathy, and extraordinary service orientation—calling her "Disneyland personified," a "BCG Rockstar," and someone who makes high-pressure situations "feel like a summer breeze." Today, as Administrative Services Manager for the NYC and Brooklyn teams, she continues to elevate administrative operations, strengthen team culture, and enable leaders and staff to work at their highest potential. Outside of BCG, Mary Kate enjoys time with friends and family, especially in Atlantic Beach, and earned a BA in Communications and Marketing from Loyola University Maryland. - Diana Brandl on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/diana-brandl/ - Executive Office Insights Newsletter: https://the-socialista-projects.com/#newsletter - Podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3qBSDjTfYOG2x6qos7dKkS - Podcast on Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/de/podcast/the-future-assistant/id1493106661 The Executive Office Insights Spotify Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3QH8HL8oWIC0HzHWvb5KLd Guest Picks: Mary Kate Steincke: Light On by Maggie Rogers Joe Davis: Buy Me a Rose by Kenny Rogers

In this episode of The Brian Icenhower Podcast, we dive into one of the biggest growth challenges for real estate agents and teams: choosing between hiring a transaction coordinator (TC) and an administrative assistant. While many agents lean toward TCs because the cost comes directly from closings, Brian explains why top-producing agents and large teams invest in admin support instead—and how that decision fuels long-term growth. You'll learn: The key differences between a transaction coordinator and a true admin. Why admins don't just save you time—they generate more revenue and elevate client service. The four major roles admins can play: listing manager, transaction coordinator, marketing director, and administrative manager. How to train and layer responsibilities as your business scales. Why relying solely on TCs can hold your team back, while admin systems create scalability and better client experiences. If you're serious about building a business that runs smoothly and grows beyond your personal production, this conversation will give you a clear roadmap for leveraging admin support to take your team to the next level. Presented by Lauren Stibgen For many women the creation story in Genesis feels like a story of their subordination to men. Afterall, God made Adam first. In Genesis 2:18, God says, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.” Out of everything in creation there was “not a helper found fit for him.” Different than everything in creation, even Adam, Eve was made from the rib of Adam. She was the only part of creation that was not formed from the ground. While we are blessed with the details in Genesis 2, we learn in Genesis 1 that God created man “in our image, after our likeness.” Specifically in Genesis 1:27 it says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” And in verse 28, “And God blessed them.” Although God created Adam first and Eve specially for him, we forget this happened on the 6th day. There wasn't some terrific lag in time, and there was certainly not a connotation of the woman being less. Both man and woman were created in Imago Dei—the image of God. Genesis 2:18 is where we see the reference to “Ezer” or helper. As it is with many Bible translations, our definition of helper in English in not adequate to describe Ezer. In the Oxford dictionary, we see help as a verb, noun and an exclamation. The verb help is defined as making it easier for someone to do something by offering services, or to serve someone with food or drink. The noun is the action of helping someone. And the exclamation—needing urgent assistance. All this insinuates assistance in some form or fashion. Now, don't get me wrong. God absolutely wants us to be this type of helper—and I will come back to this—but the definition and its connotations fail in comparison to the type of helper God made the first woman to be (and arguably every woman thereafter made in God's image). If we know God is described as Jehovah Ezrah and we also know women are created to bare the image of God, we can begin to imagine just how significant it is to be an Ezer in the kingdom of God. Unfortunately, after the fall in Genesis 4, the sin nature of man shifted to a dominating, patriarchal role, but this does not mean this is God's plan for women and men! We know God is redeeming both men and women in his Kingdom through salvation in Christ Jesus, but we are still sinful. This, coupled with our poor English translation has created patterns in how we think of women and work that have made certain roles feel “less than”. Culturally, the word helper has been used for roles that women would take to offer assistance. Teacher's helper, Sunday school helper, lunchroom helper, field trip helper. Somewhere along the line we became more sophisticated and inserted the word chaperone, but helper was very prevalent. These roles in a classroom or at a school were reserved for stay-at-home moms. Women who worked could not find a place as this type of helper. While I think this is less pervasive today with more women at work, I know this is something many of the women in our ministry struggle with. As working women, they often cannot be this type of helper, and they would like to be. Or perhaps they have a husband who fills the role of helper in this way. Men often face being one among many women still to this day. I know my husband is the primary teacher for our homeschooled son, and he is the only male hall helper in our homeschool cooperative. Beyond these helper titles in settings that involve children, there are connotations surrounding titles that women hold at work. While some men are holding these titles today, we spent a lot of time making women “helpers” in the workforce. What do I mean by this? Assistants. These positions were held only by women. Honestly, what type of candidate pool of Administrative Assistant staff are men? Even today? Men make up on 11% of the administrative pool in the United States. Why the gender imbalance? Well,
