Disclaimer: This episode was recorded on April 11th, 2025, and reflects the information available at the time of recording. As we know, America is in motion here, and so subsequent updates may not be reflected in this discussion as things continue to evolve and change. Tune in as PwC specialists from across the health industry share their insights on how recent policy shifts under the Trump administration could shape healthcare in the years to come. In this episode, Glenn Hunzinger, Jenny Colapietro, and guests Kelly Griffin, Phil Sclafani, and Ruchita Kewalramani break down the potential implications of proposed government healthcare cuts, tariff policy and agency workforce reductions, along with the growing role of AI in the industry. They also discuss how pharma, medtech, payers and providers can stay ahead amidst the uncertainty. Discussion highlights:Proposed funding cuts to major government healthcare programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and NIH could significantly disrupt access, affordability, and service delivery across the healthcare landscape.Workforce reductions at federal agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Health and Human Services (HHS) may slow drug approvals, diminish oversight, and impact public health standards.New and evolving tariff policies are creating cost pressures across pharmaceutical and medtech supply chains, with potential downstream impacts on pricing, R&D, and patient access. The rapid adoption of AI in healthcare is creating new opportunities across diagnostics, R&D, and operations, while also raising concerns around governance and data privacy. To stay ahead, industry leaders must assess risks, strengthen agility, and uncover opportunities to innovate in today's dynamic environment.Speakers:Kelly Griffin, Director, Health Policy Intelligence Institute, PwCRuchita Kewalramani, Partner, Health Services PwCPhil Sclafani, Partner, Pharma & Life Sciences, PwCGlenn Hunzinger, Partner, Health Industries Leader, PwCJenny Colapietro, Principal, Consulting Commercial Leader, PwCLinked materials:Health Policy and Intelligence InstituteFor more information, please visit us at: https://www.pwc.com/us/en/industries/health-industries/health-research-institute/next-in-health-podcast.html.

In this powerful episode of Let’s Talk, we shift the conversation around body-image and eating disorders beyond youth and into midlife and later. Many assume that disordered eating is a struggle faced primarily by teenagers and young adults, but the reality is that body image concerns and eating disorders can persist—or even begin—when you’re older. Yvie is joined by Professor Gemma Sharp – a leading expert in eating disorders and body image at the University of Queensland; Kelly Griffin, who shares his experience as a male with an eating disorder that began at age 40; and Sue Cody, age 55, who experienced a relapse during perimenopause and shares her story of finding support. The conversation covers many topics – including the stigma and misconceptions around eating disorders in older adults, the impact of ageism and cultural narratives on body image, unique challenges in accessing appropriate care later in life and the importance of talking, advocacy, peer support, and ongoing research into this population. Kelly Griffin joins me on the podcast to share the story of her son Reeves who was given a life-limiting diagnosis of trisomy 18. Kelly shares with me what it was like receiving a life-limiting diagnosis and what advice and wisdom she would give to a mom who has received a similar diagnosis. We cover a lot of topics about life after loss and even life amidst anticipatory grief in this episode as well.    Kelly shares her experience and wisdom about parenting living children amidst a life-limiting diagnosis and after the loss of a baby -- Kelly shares how she explained to them her son's diagnosis, what it was like to walk with them as they grieved the loss of a sibling, why she chose to invite them into the grief in the ways she did. Her wisdom on this is incredibly helpful and very honest.    We also talk extensively about marriage amidst anticipatory grief and after the loss of a baby -- the wisdom she shares about this is insightful and challenging and wonderfully practical and of course full of so much hope.    We also spend some time talking about a topic that we haven't talked about very much on this podcast and something that is still very tender for Kelly and that is what if you do not go on to have a living baby after you have lost a baby -- Kelly talks honestly about what that has looked like for her and she addresses how our culture puts a lot of hope in the idea of a healthy living child after the loss of a baby, a rainbow baby; emphasis put on how a new baby will be our redemption, our healing --  she talks directly to that and to the woman who is experiencing that reality. The hope that Kelly shares here is invaluable and even if you go on to have living children after the loss of a baby, this hope, this truth is for you too.   FREE GIFT: ULTIMATE RESOURCE BUNDLE Before we jump into the episode I wanted to tell you about something really amazing that we have been working on for months and months. So many kids want to follow in their parent's footsteps but how do we help them avoid body dissatisfaction and eating disorders, especially if they have a lived experience themselves. Kids are great imitators and parents, teachers and other adult role models have a huge role to play in helping them accept the bodies they are in. In this episode, we're investigating how we can change the picture with kids.Body dissatisfaction is one of the highest risk factors for eating disorders and studies tell us that if you struggle with body image as a kid or as a teenager, you're far more likely to carry those feelings with you into adulthood. The troubling news for those of us who are parents is that more and more young kids are telling us that they're dissatisfied with their bodies.Psychologist and eating disorder prevention specialist Danni Rowlands tells host Sam Ikin “appearance and image are still such important things in our society and that's that's not helping people to feel comfortable or happy in their bodies.”IT professional Kelly Griffin struggled with body image issues and eating disorders for decades. “Unfortunately, [my eldest daughter] had to see your dad go through [an eating disorder]. No child should ever go through this but, even more, no child should ever see their parent go through it.” Kelly takes us through how he is helping his kids build resilience to the issues he fell prey to.Nuibeny Naam isn't a parent but plays a large part in bringing up her sisters' children. She says she suffered from body dissatisfaction because her body ‘wasn't what you would call Australian”. She came to Australia when she was nine years old and suffered from eating disorders and body dissatisfaction for decades. She says she's trying to help her nieces accept their differences and love the bodies they have.Anne Smith, lived with an eating disorder from the age of 15 until she was 30. But it wasn't until she became pregnant that she started to make up her mind to find recovery and set a strong example for her kids. “It took growing another life for me to realise how important mine was,” she said.As a parent who's been affected by an eating disorder, it's one thing to say that we don't want our kids to follow in those footsteps, but actually protecting them from it is a whole other story.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"We don’t want to be a burden but the reality is, we are carrying a big burden. And we need people. We have to be vulnerable and to say what we need." Kelly Griffin In this episode we are talking all about friendship amidst loss and grief. In this episode I have the privilege of interviewing best friends Kelly & Caroline. Kelly received a prenatal life-limiting diagnosis of Trisomy 18 for her son Reeves and during our time together she and Caroline share honestly and tenderly about their friendship and what role it played in Kelly’s loss and healing journey. Caroline gives incredibly helpful and tangible wisdom about how to love a friend who is walking through a life-limiting diagnosis. If you know and love someone who has received a life-limiting diagnosis or has experienced the loss of a baby Caroline’s wisdom will be so helpful to you. Kelly gives wisdom to the mom who may be feeling lonely, who might not be surrounded by friends who step in to help. This episode is so encouraging as it reminds us that it is the simplest things that matter so much. That loving someone who is hurting does not have to look like grand gestures but rather an imperfect showing up that is consistent and prayerful and thoughtful has the potential to really help and bring healing. This episode is tender and raw and I am forever grateful for these two women and the friendship they represent. I pray it encourages you to step into the messiness of friendship after loss as it reminds you that it is absolutely worth it.    FREE GUIDE If you love a grieving mom, don’t forget to check out last week’s episode, Episode #94 about how to love a grieving friend, my simple list of 10 don’t do this instead do this.  To download a free checklist of the ideas shared in that episode head to  www.themorning.com/friendsandfamily. Meet Kelly Griffin! Most of her 500 students call her Miss G!! Miss G rocks the schoolhouse by teaching social-emotional and character development skills at an elementary school in San Diego. She has a master’s degree in elementary education from Rockhurst University (back home in the Midwest) and a certification in Social-Emotional and Character Development from Rutger’s University online program. She is the co-creator of a program that provides universal SEL instruction to all students. Miss G is passionate about emotional literacy! In today’s world, she believes it is more important than ever. Much of what she does is give a voice to the emotional lives of her students. She builds community and helps create a space where students feel emotionally safe, connected and cared for. This is where the magic happens. Walls come down, hearts open up and students can express their feelings and connect as human beings. These are moments of growth, moments of change that create ripples in our school--ripples of belonging. As said best by L.R. Knost, “It is not our job to toughen children up to face a cruel and heartless world. It’s our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless.” Much of her focus right now is on how her students are feeling. She imagines something roller-coaster-ish…When those feelings of anxiety, loneliness and frustration come up, we tend to conceal them rather than feel them. But this only holds us back, when we name our emotions and acknowledge them we can then figure out coping strategies on how to manage them (Marc Brackett, Permission To Feel).
