Some fun and funny facts about England, Australia and Churchill, Manitoba from the well-travelled Lars Callieou. And Nitish Sakuja tells us that the toughest part of an all-inclusive vacation begins at home.
Today's love story belongs to Lars Callieou, a Canadian comedian who has given the gift of laughter to audiences all over the world, including six military tours. For Lars, feeling at home on the road was very normal, as his parents were travelling musicians. When following in their footsteps didn't quite pan out, he found solace and purpose in standup comedy. His love of comedy has taken him across Canada and the US in his beloved 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, which he calls Silver. Lars has travelled so much that he's travelled the exact distance to the moon and back (768,00km)...and then some. Currently, he has logged 818,000km. Lars has an impressive comedy career that spans 20 years, and he's worked with such luminaries as Joan Rivers, Jeff Foxworthy, and Bob Saget. His fuel is passion, generosity, and the pure love of performance. Lars Callieou has appeared at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montréal and has a 1-Hour Comedy Special currently airing on The Comedy Network. He's been overseas to entertain the troops 5 times and is a 2-Time Canadian Comedy Award Nominee. He can be heard on CBC's Laugh Out Loud, CBC's The Debaters and on Sirius/XM. He's performed at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for the last 8 years and has also appeared at the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, the Boston Comedy Festival, the World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas and the Halifax Comedy Festival. The people asked for it and we delivered! Lars is back on the podcast for his third time and its a juicy one! Lars was the first comedian I ever had on the podcast all those years ago and it was so fascinating having these conversations before and after trying stand up. The first two conversations were between a real comedian and just a diehard comedy fan and they were great. This episode is pretty much the same but I'm one step closer to being a real bonafide stand up comedian and I think thats pretty damn cool. This conversation is pretty nerdy about comedy but its full of passion and wisdom so even if you hate comedy you will enjoy it I promise! Check out Lars on social media @extralars and on his website www.extralars.com and most importantly go see him do stand up all across the country! You can also see me tonight Feb 15th at Rick Bronson's Comic Strip in West Edmonton Mall! @comicstripwem

I really enjoyed chatting recently with comedian veterans and great blokes Lars Callieou from Canada and Aussie larrikin Chris Franklin on our Comedy Legends with Bevo series. We spoke about why the boys are up and about with doing live shows again, their comedy journeys, Lars relationship with the late Joan Rivers and Bob Saget and why Chris was not a fan of doing comedy shows on Zoom. We also discussed the ideas behind Chris's lockdown song called ‘Stay the F..k Home' which he performed with over 20 different musicians and his other famous song ‘Bloke'. Check out the links below to watch the video clips for both songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnBtOPUMyqU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-IPcVaif3Q Thanks so much to Chris and Lars for their time, to the team at PodBooth for putting this great video together and our partners Anytime Fitness.

For today's episode we welcomed back local Edmonton comedian Lars Callieou to the podcast for his second appearance! As you will hear in both our first conversation as well as this one I am obsessed with stand up comedy so opportunities like this to ask all the inside questions I wonder about daily means more to me than I will ever be able to express! Whether you are a comedy nut like me or not, I don't think you can go wrong with a conversation about a topic where both parties have a genuine passion. Lars has performed all over the world, for the troops, for specials and most of all for his love of the game! Please check out Lars on social media @extralars and Christmas party season is coming maybe think about hiring Lars or any other local acts to really spread the love around this holiday season! I hope you all enjoy and I'll see you guys on the next one! Xoxoxo

Lars has compiled an impressive list of Canadian comedy credits such as: Comedy Network, Just for Laughs Halifax, CBC's The Debaters, and XM Radio. Lars has also been overseas to entertain the troops 3 times (Kuwait, IRAQ, Kyrgyzstan, Dubai and Abu Dhabi) and has a weekly comedy radio show on CJSR 88.5 FM that is a 2-Time Canadian Comedy Award Nominee. Named Best of the Fest at the 2018 SLO Comedy Festival in San Luis Obispo, California.
Red Alert! All Hands on Deck! We have our first comedian!!!! This has been something I have been desperately wanting since way before anyone even knew I was starting a podcast. And what a comedian it is, Lars Callieou is a local Edmonton Comedian that has been in the game since the early 2000's, he has appeared at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montréal, has a 1-Hour Comedy Special currently airing on The Comedy Network and has been overseas to entertain the troops 5 times. He can be heard on CBC's Laugh Out Loud, The Debaters and on Sirius/XM. He's one of only four Canadians in history to make the Finals of both the San Francisco AND Seattle International Comedy Competitions. I have dreamed of being able to talk comedy with an actual comedian for years and Lars was so generous and indulged me at every turn with the type of genuine and thoughtful answers that were better than I could have even hoped for! Lars is one of the hardest workers I have ever met while also managing to always be there to help anyone willing to put in the work. This combination is something I find absolutely inspiring and hope to emulate myself. Please follow lars at @extralars and contact him to entertain at any functions either in person or online, you would be hard pressed to find a more dependable and hilarious guy! And to top it all off he is a huge Oilers fan! Here's to hoping this wasn't all just a fever dream!

ATB was built to answer Alberta's financial questions in tough times. ATB was built to help Albertans. For answers to your questions, and to learn more, visit www.ATB.com When Lars Callieou was just a young child, his parents and their band had a song hit the Billboard charts. He spent the next decade or so growing up on the road as they toured Canada, so it is no surprise that Lars was drawn to the entertainment industry and the stage. It wasn't until he was in his early 20's however, that he realized his passion was for comedy and not music. From his first open mic night in Edmonton to opening for and touring with superstars like Martin Short, Jeff Foxworthy, Rosanne Barr and Joan Rivers, Lars has carved out a nice career for himself. When Covid 19 hit this past spring and he found himself itching to entertain, he started the Firepit Comedy Tour, doing small, socially distant and safe backyard shows all around Alberta. Lars is a great guy, obviously funny and I had a great time chatting with him. I met Lars in his hometown of Edmonton Alberta back in 2004 when he was new to comedy and since then he has blossomed to become one of Canada's hardest working and most well traveled comics. We talked about his great new plague comedy project, The Firepit Comedy Tour and I'm debating doing it myself down here in Houston. It was a great conversation about life, comedy and getting by in the time of The Rona! In today's show I talk about how British Columbians expect food prices to soar but that isn't enough of an incentive to change the way we in BC buy groceries. I speak about stand up comedy with Lars Callieou. Earlier this month there was a story that SNL star Pete Davidson was making his audience sign a non-disclosure agreement before his shows. I chat with comedian Lars Callieou to discuss that and how comedy is shifting. I visited with BCAA Driving Expert Josh Smythe about what you should have in your vehicle before heading on a long road trip to go meet family and friends for the holidays. And to kick start the show, I am joined in studio by Brad Smith, a Kamloops lawyer who was recently appointed to the Queen's Counsel.
Kalvin Olafson is a Vancouver actor with ties to the comedy scene here. He visited us to promote a play he was in, but we talked about all sorts of things with him and guest sidekick Lars Callieou. We talk about Kalvin's process and motivation, growing up on a farm in Manitoba, flying first class, and playing in his band Minto.
