Afghanistan's Hamid Karzai International Airport, or HKIA, was the center of the world's attention following the announcement of America's retrograde from Afghanistan over the course of 2021. The images we saw- desperate civilians throwing children over the wall into the arms of Marines and Airmen. The terrifying images of the aftermath of the attack at Abbey Gate. Videos of desperate Afghanis falling from aircraft in their last ditch attempt to escape the Taliban for anywhere other than Afghanistan. It is a time that has been burned into the brains of all American Service Members. Recently, Congress started hearing some accounts of what happened over the course of those 4 months. From the breakdown in the chain of command to the lack of support, to the tragedy of losing 13 Americans in a mass casualty event- even 2 years later, this event has captivated the hearts, minds and attention of of the American Public. Finally, the Pararescue Team Senior Enlisted Leader, Sean, and Team Sergeant, Chris, are here to tell their story of exactly what happened in the lead up to the event, exactly what happened in the most unsure time in all of the Global War on Terror, and the days and weeks that followed. In the end, 96 Distinguished Flying Crosses were awarded to the pilots, crew chiefs, loadmasters maintaners and support personnel for their support to Operation ALLIES REFUGE. However, the ground team- who were credited with the rescue and movement of tens of thousands of cvilians- recieved far less recognition. At the time of this writing, the highest medal bestowed on the ground team is a Bronze Star with Valor, and only two of them. The struggle continues at the highest levels to recognize their sacrifices appropriately. Thank you doesn't begin to encapsulate how appreciative the Ones Ready team is for Sean and Chris taking this time to highlight just how capable, relevant, valiant and professional the Air Force's Rescue Community is- but thank you is the best we can do, and we mean it sincerely. The last US military plane left Afghanistan one year ago today - we'll hear how Afghans have struggled since. People in Jackson, Mississippi are being told not to drink their tap water after flooding hit a treatment plant. While Ukrainian officials say they've launched a major counter offensive, Russia's new Iranian-made drones could counter Ukraine's momentum. The world's largest electronics market has shut down amid another Covid-19 lockdown in China. And, why Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are leaving the US.To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

In the late summer of 2021, after years of service to his country—including four years at the United States Military Academy—Major Naqib Mirzada, an Afghan National Army Special Forces officer, and his family fled Afghanistan after the Taliban's seizure of Kabul. Arriving at Hamid Karzai International Airport on August 15, amid the US-led coalition's withdrawal from the country, Naqib and his family spent several grueling days trying to escape. On this episode, he tells the story of those last chaotic days in Afghanistan and the start of his life in the United States. This episode was jointly produced with the West Point Center for Oral History. The full video of Naqib’s interview will be available on the Center for Oral History’s website in the coming weeks.

We've all seen the despairing images. I hope this episode provides insight. Contact: Ipinionsj@gmail.com Length: 42 min
The United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan, and the events and pictures surrounding it is proving to be a very emotional time for a lot of Veterans. Questions about whether their service and sacrifices there were "worth it" are common, and many Veterans are going through a wide range of feelings, from despair, to anger. The Department of Veteran Affairs is trying to be as proactive as possible by setting up a variety of resources, both locally and nationally, to help Veterans process their feelings and give them a place to talk about what they're going through while watching events in Afghanistan unfold in real-time. On this Episode of The 9 Line, we're joined by Las Vegas Vet Center Director Joe Lasky, and Dr. Robert Moering, VASNHS' Local Recovery Coordinator, and we're going to take a look at what Veterans in the area are going through, why they feel the way they do about the drawdown in Afghanistan, and discuss some of the local options available to Veterans who may want someone to talk to about their experiences.
The first US troops have started leaving Afghanistan on the same day President Joe Biden decided not to extend the August 31 evacuation deadline, two defense officials told CNN. "So far, the reduction does not affect the mission," one of the officials said, adding that the commander on the ground can decide what military personnel are in units that are no longer required. That decision can be based on a few factors, including the number of gates open at the airport, the number of people coming through and more.To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

Scenes of panic and chaos in the capital city of Kabul have played on repeat around the world as the withdrawal of US troops in Afghanistan has precipitated the swift fall of the government and the Taliban's takeover of the country. With much fear, anger, and uncertainty throughout the country, it is an open question what the future will hold for Afghans under Taliban rule in the wake of the devastation wrought by the US and its allies over the 20th and 21st centuries. This week on The Marc Steiner Show, we begin a crucial and urgent series of conversations about the US war in Afghanistan, the world-historical failure of the “War on Terror,” and the future of the Afghan people. On Aug. 9, 2021, with the Taliban's takeover just days away, Marc spoke with journalist Ali M. Latifi from Kabul about the scene in the city and the Kafka-esque nightmare facing Afghan citizens trying to find refuge in the US or elsewhere. Then, on Aug. 16, after the Taliban had taken Kabul and announced the dawn of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Marc spoke with Latifi again about the events of the past week and why he is not trying to flee his country. In this segment of The Marc Steiner Show, we feature both of these important interviews in chronological order. Ali M. Latifi is an online journalist with Al Jazeera English based in Kabul, reporting on Afghanistan, migration, and refugee issues.Tune in for new segments of The Marc Steiner Show every Tuesday and Friday on TRNN.

The United States leaves Afghanistan as the Taliban seem to be retaking control of the entire country, city by city. So what becomes of the government that Washington propped up and the military that it trained? Andrew Bacevich, president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and a retired colonel in the US Army, tells host Steve Clemons that Washington was blinded by its imperialistic notions that Afghanistan was in dire need of American intervention. And Afghanistan analyst Hashim Wahdatyar warns that Pakistan's alliance with the Taliban does not bode well for the future of the region. - Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJSubscribe - Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish - Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera - Check our website: https://www.aljazeera.com/
We hear the warnings that leaving will create a vacuum, a vacuum that will be filled with enemies of America who will use their new power to plan and execute plots against the United States. The only way to prevent that from happening, we're told, is to prevent our enemies from having a safe haven. But is this true? I'm Duane Lester and in this episode of Insight to Action, I speak with John BYnres, the Director of Education for the Concerned Veterans for America, and Tyler Kotesky, a Senior Policy Analyst with Americans for Prosperity, about what they call the “safe haven myth.”

President Biden recently announced that the U.S would be withdrawing its forces from the region by Sep. 11 2021, but some argue against his decision, citing possible future conflicts. While others say that it's best to leave now, before more American lives are put at risk. The moderator fro this debate is Delaney O. and the hosts are Alex C. and Issac Y. Sources
