“I'm so fat. I'll never lose weight. I don't have the resources. There's no way it will work.” This sounds familiar, doesn't it? Does this sound familiar? You start a new weight loss plan and you're super excited. You are on cloud nine thinking about the new smaller body that's in your future. In the beginning, you do all the things - print out the plan; buy the groceries; post in the group how excited you are; you decide what stores you're going to shop in and what you're going to wear when you reach your goal and for a few weeks, you're all in. Our default is that we all want to feel the positive effect of change when we lose weight and we're sporting this new body, but we don't want to do the work that it takes to actually change.  How I see this showing up during the weight loss journey is often we are unwilling to forget what we THINK we know about weight loss and be 100% open to learning a new way. We run from the unknown and we stick to what we know...even if it isn't working.  Here's the thing, if we're not ready to let go of our old diet rules, we're going to slow down our weight loss progress because we're going to be confused. Losing weight and keeping it off can be a challenge. So imagine setting a weight-loss goal, achieving it, and then going on vacation. How do you maintain that weight loss and withstand the temptations of wanting to eat and drink all the things? That's the scenario my client, Monica, encountered. As a private client of the Stop. Dieting. Forever.™ process, Monica learned how to lose weight on her terms and successfully lost 15 pounds. Some of us are really good at making decisions. We make decisions constantly - all day every day at work or for our families but when we need to make a decision about ourselves, especially decisions that put ourselves as a priority, it's easy to skip this decision. There is a reason for this.  Women are socialized from the time we were born to be primary caregivers. No, we aren't naturally better at it than men, but we're forced to figure it out, or else the "societal shame" fall upon us. The issue with this is that behind closed doors this causes a lot of unnecessary stress, angst, frustration, and pain. No wonder emotional eaters tend to be women and not men.  The good news is that this no longer has to be your reality. Overcoming the perceived shame and guilt that comes with societal norms isn't easy but it's possible. You can prioritize yourself when presented with an opportunity to uplevel your confidence and improve your body and health without feeling guilty.  It starts with you challenging your own beliefs about what is right and how to spend your money and how you invest in yourself. Can we really get hooked on sugar? The answer is yes, absolutely. Some people consume sugary foods in ways that aren't healthy, and even though it's more of a habit than an actual addiction, it's difficult to break the craving. Most people will jump on a trendy sugar detox diet that promises to end the craving for sweets and help them lose weight. A sugar detox is effective because if you stop consuming sugar, you will lose weight but before you know it, you will gain the weight back since you hadn't completely healed your relationship with sugar. You simply created weight loss just by changing an action - consume no sugar. I want to offer that there is a more sustainable, long-lasting option to recovering from your sugar “addiction”. Summer is right around the corner. In preparation, maybe you've decided to change your habits in the name of weight loss. Even with all of those habit changes, the numbers on the scale haven't budged at all. In this episode, I am diving into the second part of a three-part series. In EP. 93, I discussed the three phases to achieve your forever weight.  Phase 1: LEARN. Where you “undiet” your brain in the Stop Dieting in 30 Weight Loss Bootcamp Phase 2: LOSE.  Where you take what you've learned and work the process until you reach your goal in the Stop. Dieting. Forever. program, Phase 3: LIVE.  Where you reach your goal and move from active weight loss to a maintenance mindset.  Many new people to the Stop. Dieting. Forever. Process share this common thought,  “I hate daily weight fluctuations!” In episode 93, I explained how to combat this thought by learning the most effective way to track your weight loss progress. Now it's time for the second phase - LOSE. In this phase, I address the common thought, "I know daily weight fluctuations are part of the process, but..." You'll begin to unpack all the beliefs that are holding you back from truly looking at the number on the scale as neutral data. Once you have this awareness, you can do the work to manage your thoughts and feelings around it and make some decisions. The ability to do this is gold.  Listen in to learn how. “I hate daily weight fluctuations.” I hear this statement all of the time. I know it turns a lot of you off from getting on a scale in the first place because you can't deal with the daily weight fluctuations. The thing is, daily weight fluctuation is normal. In fact, the average adult's weight fluctuates up to 5 or 6 pounds per day. Your weight is a reflection of what you eat and drink when you exercise and sleep and what you think.  Our brains want to make daily weight fluctuations a problem, but they don't have to be and I'm going to tell you why. I will be approaching this topic over the next three podcast episodes. This is part one of a three-part series. We live in the age of convenience and we want everything quick, fast, and in a hurry. This includes weight loss.
