Jesuit New Orleans head football coach Ryan Manale previews the defending state runner-up's upcoming season and also takes a deep dive into the NIL & Transfer Portal Culture (00:17:28) and how social media is affecting today's young people, particularly student-athletes who are trying to play ball at the collegiate level. This is a really solid, fresh perspective that will open your eyes to the craziness that is the money-making business of college football, the men who put the pads on every Saturday this fall, and the young men who aspire to do so. NOTE: Jesuit is ranked 4th in the state of Louisiana according to MaxPreps.com after losing 14-10 to Catholic High of Baton Rouge (ranked 1st in LA) in last year's 5A State Championship.
The Blue Jays (10-0) have defeated District 9-5A rivals John Curtis Christian (14-13) and Brother Martin (28-10) in the playoffs. Jesuit is looking for its ninth state championship overall and its first since winning Division I in 2014. The Bears (11-1) are in the Division I state championship game for the fifth straight year, having won it all in 2015. Catholic also won the title on the field in 2017 and in 2020 but had to vacate both of those championships due to LHSAA infractions. Catholic defeated St. Augustine 42-35 and St. Paul's 29-28 to advance to the final. The Division I state championship game featuring unbeaten No. 2 seed Jesuit against top seed Catholic of Baton Rouge will air live on NASH ICON, 106.1 FM and on the worldwide web at www.nashfm1061.com Saturday evening from Yulman Stadium. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:45 p.m.
Manale joined the Tailgaters on 106.1 FM on Saturday morning to discuss the big career move to Carrollton and Banks.

Manale focuses on the large transformation of Middle East governmental institutions, in particular the defence and education sectors. She also drives A.T. Kearney’s diversity and inclusion initiative for the Middle East, and heads the firm’s sustainability (social, economic and environmental) efforts in the region. Manale is an engineer by training and had a full professional career as a fintech entrepreneur before moving into the consulting industry. We talked about the workforce of the future – what are those skills we have to develop in ourselves and our children to be “future-proofed”. We discussed the impact this is having on education, and what the upcoming educational trends are from Finland to the UK to Singapore. I asked Manale about what A.T. Kearney is doing to retain women and she talked about their innovative, all-encompassing DIAL program (DIAL for diversity, inclusion, apprenticeship, leadership) and how they are holding leadership accountable for its implementation. Finally, we talked about what Governments can do to help move the needle. When you hear the letters "KSA" - that’s short for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as it is known in business speak! Manale’s book recommendation was “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” by Milan Kundera. If you’d like to reach Manale, you can find her on LinkedIn. While you’re here, please remember to subscribe, rate and review the podcast – thank you!

On this week s episode, we sit down with Loyola University history professor Justin Nystrom to explore the influence that Sicilian Americans have had on New Orleans foodways. Surprisingly, that influence didn tbegin with the heavy influx of Sicilians who populated the city in great numbers during the late 1880 s. Those rural Sicilians made their mark on the French Market and created the sandwich we know as the muffalatta. Actually, the first wave of Italian immigrants were urban dwellers who arrived on our shores in the 1830 s and became wealthy importers and restaurateurs. Who knew that Commander s Palace was actually founded by the son of an immigrant from Ustica whose father had Americanized his surname from Camarda to Commander Or that those same Ustican immigrants were important members of the Southern Yacht Club taking their leisure racing sloops on Lake Pontchartrain Not exactly the image you might have in your mind of our Sicilian immigrants. The recent publication of Justin s book Creole Italian Sicilian Immigrants and The Shaping of New Orleans Food Culture is particularly timely. My new book, the Pascal s Manale Cookbook will also be published this fall. It focuses on the story of two Sicilian immigrant families, the Manales and the Radostas, forbearers of today s Defelice clan, who continue the Manale tradition today at their century old establishment on Napoleon Avenue. And there s over one hundred classic Manale recipes included in the book too

Back in the day pre Katrina and Ivan and a bunch of other wicked storms that killed them off one at a time the New Orleans Lakefreont was a mecca of seafood restaurants. Fitzgerald s, Sid Mar s, Brunings, and more, Lakefront dining was an integral part of growing up in New Orleans. Eventually they all ended up like this washed into Lake Pontchartrain beyond repair. And that s how it s been since Katrina. Every single restaurant wiped off the face of the earth. Until now. Now there s Brisbi s. Built from the lake and ground up by John Brisbi and spearheaded in the kitchen by Chef David de Felice who literally grew up in the kitchen of his family owned Pascal s Manale, Brisbi s is bringing back the Lakefront. Margo and Ray meet David and John on this edition of Midnight Menu 1 at Ted s Frostop.
