In this episode, we welcome Dan Henderson to the show. He is a retired MMA fighter who previously fought in the UFC, Pride, and Strikeforce. He was the first fighter in MMA history to be a 2-division champion of a major MMA promotion when he simultaneously held the Pride Middleweight (205 lb) and Welterweight (183 lb) titles. He also was the last Light Heavyweight champion for Strikeforce. He has wins over the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva, Shogun Rua, Vitor Belfort, Rich Franklin, Michael Bisping, Big Nog, Renzo Gracie, Carlos Newton, and others. He was also a 2-time Olympian, representing the United States as a member of the Greco-Roman wrestling team in 1992 (Barcelona) and 1996 (Atlanta). His fight against MMA legend Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 139 (2011) was inducted into the Fight Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame in 2018. He also just released a memoir entitled Hendo: The American Athlete. In this interview, we discuss what it was like growing up with a tough and athletic father, why he decided to wrestle, when he and his coaches realized he had what it took to become an Olympian, why he started fighting MMA while still chasing his Olympic dream, what it was like fighting in the early days of MMA where you typically had to fight multiple times in one night, when he decided to pursue MMA full time at the age of 30, his legendary fights against Wanderlei Silva, Fedor Emelianenko, and Shogun Rua, his legendary knockout of Michael Bisping, his thoughts on God and Jesus, the one fight of his he would leave for humanity, and much more. Let's get into it… Episode notes and links HERE. Donate to support our mission of equipping men to push back darkness. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
A riveting memoir by the first MMA double champion and two-time Olympic wrestler who cut a polarizing path as a firebrand figure and went on to become a legend. "Dan Henderson is a savage. He came from a pure, wrestling background with very little striking training, and he went and became one of the most dangerous, one-punch knockout artists in the history of the sport." -Joe Rogan Dan "Hendo" Henderson was the first fighter in MMA history to become a double champion, winning championships in PRIDE Fighting Championships and Strikeforce. He faced the biggest names in MMA, on his unparalleled run through the early days of MMA through its remarkable rise in popularity, squaring off against the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Anderson Silva, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Wanderlei Silva, Michael Bisping, Vitor Belfort, and Renzo Gracie. Henderson's first fight against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in 2011 is considered one of the greatest fights in UFC history. In this no-holds-barred look back on his life, Henderson provides context and insight into the biggest fights of his career, while reflecting on the wholly unique upbringing that shaped him into the warrior he needed to be to win. With his trademark humor, he sheds light on his two trips to the Olympics, his transformative time training in Europe and Russia, and his up-and-down relationship with Dana White. Hendo: The American Athlete is a thrilling window into the life and mind of a true legend. There will never be another fighter like Hendo.

DAMN! They Were Good celebrates the careers of the most exciting and influential fighters in MMA history, and on the first episode of 2023, the MMA Fighting crew remembers the best of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua as he prepares for the final fight of his incredible career. Entering into MMA in 2002 as the little brother of Murilo "Ninja" Rua, Shogun quickly made a name for himself with one of the most legendary runs ever in 2005, winning the Pride Middleweight Grand Prix with career-defining performances against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Alistair Overeem, and Ricardo Arona. Rua then joined the UFC in 2007 where after some initial struggles, he was able to capture the UFC light heavyweight title from Lyoto Machida, and he did all of this before turning 30 years old. In honor of Shogun's impending retirement, host Jed Meshew is joined by MMAFighting's Shaheen Al-Shatti and Guilherme Cruz. Jim and Matt invite the first UFC Lightweight champion, Jens Pulver, to preview UFC 274 and talk with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Michael Chandler! First, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua joins the show ahead of his bout against Ovince Saint Preux this Saturday at UFC 274. He shares how training with fighters who are also in their forties inspires him to compete, explains how the come-up for a martial artist has evolved since he first started competing professionally and reveals why he is not open to the idea of participating in other sports like grappling after he retires. Then, after Jim, Matt, and Jens discuss how questions about age impact a fighter's mentality, Michael Chandler calls in ahead of his fight against Tony Ferguson this weekend. He explains why he chose to face someone he called a "certified lunatic," shares how his experience in the UFC has been everything he imagined it would be and opens up about being the 'perfect' person to welcome back Conor McGregor to the UFC Lightweight division. Jim, Matt, and Jens close the show with their picks for UFC 274's main card, including the UFC Women's Strawweight title fight of Rose Namajunas versus Carla Esparza, and the main event for the UFC Lightweight title between champion Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua {27-12-1} has recently admitted that his retirement from the sport of Mixed Martial Arts is just around the corner. The legend would like to have one or two more fights before calling it quits. In this episode of the Fight Junkie Podcast series, we touch on the recent retirement statement from Rua and give our opinion on why combat sport athletes need a solid support system around them to keep them from staying in the game too long.
Scott and Dan love it when they get to look back at an all-timer like Shogun-Hendo 1 — and tie it into the upcoming UFC event, to boot. So, with Mauricio Rua facing Paul Craig on Saturday at UFC 255 in a rematch of their draw almost exactly a year ago, The CSJ figured they might as well treat themselves to a wild five-round classic from these all-time great light heavyweights.

UFC and Bellator will produce three events between the two of them this weekend, so Scott and Dan selected close fights between headliners for each promotion to dissect. That includes Bellator headliner Lyoto Machida's controversial 2009 win over Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. With feedback from an actual judge about how the fight would have been scored by today's standards, the Couchside Judges break down the divisive decision.
Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado are here to breakdown the UFC Fight Island 3: ‘Whittaker vs. Till’ event, with hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event in the player above or on our Bloody Elbow Presents YouTube Channel and BE Presents Podcast Network. This Saturday’s, July 25th., UFC Fight Island 3: ‘Whittaker vs. Till’ event, broadcast from the brand new Flash Forum facility on the infamous FIGHT ISLAND (Yas Island) off the coast of Abu Dhabi, showcased a solid card featuring an exciting middleweight fight between Robert ‘The Reaper’ Whittaker and Darren ‘The Gorilla’ Till. Our co-main event showcased a light heavyweight tilt between Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua & ‘Lil Nog, aka Minotauro’ Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Also on the card, we had a highly-anticipated main card bout between heavyweights Fabricio ‘Vai Cavalo’ Werdum and Alexander ‘The Mauler’ Gustafsson, which was quickly over by 2:30 1st round submission, that bout was preceded by a brawl that went to the judges scorecards, which took place between Alex ‘Cowboy’ Oliveira and Peter Sobotta; rounding things out we were treated to SIX POTN efforts put forth by Khamzat Chimaev, Tom Aspinall, Paul Craig, Fabricio Werdum, Tanner Boser, and Jesse Ronson. Overall, the massive fifteen bout card saw four (T)KOs, three submissions and eight decisions, including two split-decisions; the entire card was quite impressive.... what a fun night of fights we have to discuss with you! Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, and Renan Barao are fighting to survive because fighting is all they know how to do. Whether brain health, mental health, struggling to make weight, or struggling with depression, fighting isn't just something they do, it defines who they are. And that's a problem that doesn't end with the bell. If you want to start fighting, there are unlimited resources out there and people who want to help you get started. But when it's time to get out, that's when everyone disappears and no one wants to help you. And if you love the show, tell your friends. Spread the word. Tell them they're missing out. The first Co-Main Event Podcast of the post-Georges St-Pierre era goes in the books easily enough. God knows there's enough to discuss, with Johny Hendricks' masterpiece victory over Robbie Lawler to claim the vacant welterweight title at UFC 171. There's also the mess behind Hendricks in the 170-pound division to consider, after Carlos Condit injured his knee to concede victory to Tyron Woodley in Saturday night's co-main event. Nick Diaz has started showing up to UFC events again to heckle people from the crowd and St-Pierre himself stopped by the MMA Fortnight to further clarify the terms of his indefinite sabbatical. Oh yeah, and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Dan Henderson scrap this Sunday night in the last gasp of TRT in the Octagon. All that, plus AYFKM and Just Sayin' Stuff.
One show on the Fox family of networks down, another one coming this weekend. Episode 81 of the Co-Main Event Podcast finds Ben and Chad reveling in the unexpected glory of Mark Hunt's slugfest with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva last Saturday on Fox Sports 1. Twas that rare heavyweight fight that goes a full five rounds, while seemingly getting better at every step along the way. In addition to that, they inspect Mauricio “Shogun” Rua's revitalizing knockout of James Te Huna, wondering aloud if the “old Shogun” could truly be “back.” With the time remaining, they look forward to next Saturday's card on Fox Heavy, where Team Alpha Male sends everybody on the roster into the fray. All that plus MasterTweet Theatre, AYFKM and Just Sayin' Stuff.
