Somehow David has repeatedly found himself at the center of disaster. His most life changing trip through Asia was during the Asian financial crisis, his first big writing opportunity was during the 2008 financial crisis (which resulted in him losing his day job), this earthquake in Japan cemented that position as a writer, and now post covid the world needs the kind of community David is building more than ever. I actually think that's something the best entrepreneurs have in common. Finding opportunity in disaster. And in David's case I think he's able to see opportunity because his breadth of experience is so wide. David was a resource strategist on Wall Street, oversaw natural resource programs at the white House, and even ran a water-focused NGO in Africa. His writing appears in the LA Times, the New York Times, and he's published a book under Yale University Press called The Elements of Power. While writing this book in internet cafes around the world, David experienced firsthand how working remotely requires flexibility and breathable spaces–which is why he created OutPost, designed to be a safe place for digital nomads to break away from the conventional office. But before he was writing and traveling the world, a life of adventure in his hometown of Trumbull Connecticut had a pretty low bar. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

For a time, the iron curtain heightened solidarity in the West, including among social democrats. More recently, social democratic politics has been tempered by liberal movements focusing on “diversity” rather than on class inequality. While noting that there are troublesome signs of growing authoritarianism around the world, Abraham argues that the Trump movement is not comparable with historical fascism. When today’s guest, David Abraham, saw the stat a few years ago that 40% of US jobs could be done remotely, Outpost was a no brainer. Set up in 2016, Outpost is a hospitality brand delivering live, work and travel services to a community of remote workers. From teaching in Japan to working at the White House and Wall Street to NGOs, David has seen and done a lot. Calling in from Singapore, David shares his tips on how to build a strong community with interactive spaces. In this episode we explore the future for families being digital nomads, building partnerships, how we want to travel in the future, and the opportunities for hotels. Whilst a lot of us are in lockdown, this episode will embolden you for a brighter future when we can travel and collaborate in person again.  Links: https://destinationoutpost.co/ (DestinationOutpost.co): https://destinationoutpost.co/ (https://destinationoutpost.co/)  https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Power-Gadgets-Struggle-Sustainable/dp/030022690X (‘The Elements of Power’ by David Abraham): https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Power-Gadgets-Struggle-Sustainable/dp/030022690X (https://www.amazon.com/Elements-Power-Gadgets-Struggle-Sustainable/dp/030022690X)  https://www.amazon.com/Why-We-Sleep-Unlocking-Dreams/dp/1501144324/ (‘Why We Sleep’ by David Walker): https://www.amazon.com/Why-We-Sleep-Unlocking-Dreams/dp/1501144324/ (https://www.amazon.com/Why-We-Sleep-Unlocking-Dreams/dp/1501144324/)  https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-abraham-73960a1/ (David’s LinkedIn): https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-abraham-73960a1/ (https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-abraham-73960a1/)  https://www.hospitalitymavericks.com/podcast/episode/1fe677ea/88-larry-korman-president-of-aka-hotel-residences-on-being-3d (#88 Larry Korman, President of AKA Hotel Residences, on Being 3D): https://www.hospitalitymavericks.com/podcast/episode/1fe677ea/88-larry-korman-president-of-aka-hotel-residences-on-being-3d (https://www.hospitalitymavericks.com/podcast/episode/1fe677ea/88-larry-korman-president-of-aka-hotel-residences-on-being-3d)  Connect with the podcast: https://colossal-designer-2784.ck.page/40ada1483a (Join the Hospitality Mavericks newsletter): https://rb.gy/5rqyeq (https://rb.gy/5rqyeq)   https://www.facebook.com/groups/hospitalitygamechangers (Join the GameChanger Facebook Group): https://www.facebook.com/groups/hospitalitygamechangers (https://bit.ly/2GAvr2W) Please help us getting better by filling out the feedback survey on the podcast show here: https://bit.ly/37aIm5n (https://bit.ly/37aIm5n)  This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacy Chartable - https://chartable.com/privacy Support this podcast

Neues Jahr, alte Muster. In this episode, Catherine is joined by David Abraham, co-founder of Outpost—a network of co-living, co-working and social spaces for location-independent professionals. A long-time remote-worker himself, David shares how an afternoon at a Tokyo Starbucks sparked the idea for Outpost. He discusses the key drivers of what he calls the ‘remote revolution', the trend of offices becoming less about physical spaces and more about networks. In David's view, the COVID-19 pandemic validates the grand experiment: remote work is viable. From that, we can estimate the standard workweek will evolve, as will business travel. Rather than business leading leisure, he expects to see more leisure travellers taking their business with them. And for hospitality players targeting remote workers, their offerings must resonate with the brand. Providing a desk alone just isn't enough anymore.

This, despite Channel 4 reporting its lowest audience share since 1984.
