We've got something for everyone this week. Grady gets his face melted off by an evil doctor with Eyes Without A Face (France & Italy, 1960), a noire chiller that works with classic film censors, not in spite of them. We fall out of tune with PussyCake (Argentina, 2021), a punk rock scifi horror with killer ideas that can't quite find its own beat, and Marcus kicks some ass with former UFC star Brandon Vera in Day Zero (Philippines, 2022). Also, a movie called Werewolf Santa drops on Tubi this week, and it's got a cameo from everyone's favorite drive-in movie critic.
It is never simple to succeed in life when dealing with challenges. You need to stay committed, consistent and motivated. While forging your own route, you could get lost, but if you keep going, you'll figure everything out. Making the decision to go from being a professional mixed martial fighter to working in the film industry is not common. While some people attempted to do this, few of them were successful. Brandon Vera shares his life experiences dealing with racism as a kid, dealing with pushback, finding success early in his career, and the power of trusting the process. Tune in as you will learn a lot about life, personal growth, and success. Quotes: “Racism right away opened my eyes to the realities of life and helped me realize that I must fight. Life is unfair. That, I believe, was the first lesson it taught me. You need to figure it out.” - Brandon Vera “I believe that this is the reason I have the freedom I have. I don't pay attention to what people think.” - Brandon Vera “I've never had the problem of lacking confidence. I've struggled with the question of whether I truly want to do it.” - Brandon Vera Takeaways: There will be many things in life that you need to figure out on your own. Spend some time getting to know yourself well so that when someone says something negative about you, you won't be upset because you are the one who knows yourself the best. Even though everything will go well for you, people are going to keep focusing on what is wrong with you. Just ignore them and continue your life as you have always wanted to, not paying attention to such types of people. Do you truly want to continue living your life as you do now? Even though you are confident, there may still be instances when you have second thoughts about whether or not you really want to pursue something in your life. Just trust the process itself, and let it control your thoughts. You might be shocked by the outcome even though you're not entirely committed to accomplishing it. Conclusion: The majority of people don't strive for perfection. They are unwilling to invest the necessary time and effort. But going all in is key to success in life. Just go all in on anything you're trying to achieve, and you'll get surprising results.

ONE Championship former HW World Champ, Brandon ‘The Truth' Vera, currently runs his very own Philippines Alliance Training Center, developing the next generation of Filipino martial artists right where he got his own professional start training in submission grappling. His storied career climbing the ladder of the world of combat sports started out early while growing up in Norfolk, Virginia, where he competed as a collegiate wrestler with Old Dominion University. He went on to join the military's prestigious Greco-Roman wrestling team as a member of the US Air Force. Despite leaving the service with an arm injury, Vera began studying the art of submission grappling with a vigor, training in MMA under some of the best coaches in the world, and going on to compete in both HW & LHW divisions all over North America until 2014. He then left the UFC and made his debut at ONE: WARRIOR'S WAY, with a 1st Rd stoppage against Igor Subora; following that up with his infamous 26-second KO of Paul Cheng just a year later to secure the inaugural ONE HW World Championship. He's continued his legendary career with the promotion ever since then and plans to hold the belt again before he retires. Vera catches up with BEs own Danny O'Donnell in an exclusive Bloody Elbow Presents Interview. They discussed bouts on last Friday's ONE event, what it's like fighting in 2 divisions, the transition from the UFC to ONE, and his future plans, as well as his thoughts heading into the big ONE-X 10th Anniversary mixed discipline card on March 26th. * We apologize in advance for some intermittent audio issues we had with background noises throughout this interview that were beyond our control. Q1: There was a huge ONE Championship card on Fri, Mar 11., ‘ONE Lights Out! The co-main event was between BWs Bibiano Fernandes & John Lineker. What were your thoughts on both of those guys & that fight? — At 0:39 Q2: It's going to be really interesting to see what Bibiano does from here, what he decides to do being over forty, he surprisingly looks like he still has a lot more in him... — At 3:20 Q3: Moving on to the main event for the ONE LW Championship between Thanh Le & Garry Tonon which ended in 56 seconds... what were your thoughts on that fight? — At 4:02 Q4: You mentioned Thanh Le's preparation, he was training his jiu-jitsu with Ryan Hall, do you think that helped him with those heel hook attacks? — At 6:02 Q5: Brandon asks Danny... Who do you think Le fights next? — At 7:42 Q6: Speaking of who Le might fight next, Martin Nguyen? He got a win on the card as well... — At 8:01 Q7: What was it like to make that transition from the UFC to ONE back in 2014? — At 8:34 Q8: You've fought for the LHW title and held the HW title, what are your thoughts on where you see yourself moving forward in ONE, 2 belts? — At 12:59 Q9: One of the cool things that ONE is doing is having individual martial arts disciplines on cards like the upcoming ONE-X card — could you ever see yourself fighting a match like that? — At 13:58 Q10: You are approaching the milestone of 20 years in the mixed martial arts game, what does that mean to you? — At 14:51 Q11: Not a lot of people have been able to create an MMA career on their own terms like you've done in multiple promotions, you are a pioneer who laid the road map on how others can craft their careers... — At 16:58 Q12: Let's talk about the big tenth anniversary ONE-X card coming up which will have multiple martial arts matches in various disciplines. There are some huge names on this card coming up, what are your thoughts heading towards that, is there anyone you plan to pick? — At 18:24 Q13: Is DeRitter LHW, MW Champion? Bloody Elbow author, podcast host & chief financials columnist, John S. Nash, has come up with an easy to understand explanation for you about the UFC Antitrust Lawsuit on his YouTube Channel at: https://youtu.be/TsA9FhVfR2s. We are airing an audio version of the video for you here on our Bloody Elbow Presents Podcast Network. Basically, what's happening is the UFC is being sued in federal court for alleged antitrust violations. where damages potentially could be more than $1 billion. With so many questions surrounding the case this broadcast serves as a quick explainer that hopefully answers most of them. Further details: In 2014 a group of former UFC fighters that included Cung Le, Jon Fitch and Brandon Vera filed a lawsuit against the UFC seeking between $800 million and $1.6 billion in damages. That lawsuit accused the UFC of manipulating the mixed martial arts industry in a way that harmed fighters’ abilities to secure meaningful and fair employment within the sector. The plaintiffs have also accused the UFC of not sharing profits with fighters on a level that matches over top tier sports organizations and elite international athletes. The plaintiffs have estimated that the UFC gives fighters less than 20% of total revenue, whereas major US sports leagues provide a 50-50 revenue split with players. Late last year a judge certified the lawsuit’s class action status. This victory for the plaintiffs means that any current or former UFC fighter (who competed for the organization between 2010 and 2017) was eligible to join the lawsuit as a plaintiff. The legal proceedings around this lawsuit are set to ramp up this year. Bloody Elbow will seek to cover every facet of the story as it unfolds. CONTACT INFO FOR JOHN S. New Episode Alert! This week is Filipino cinema and we are talking about the 2018 action thriller ‘Buy Bust'. Brutal, violent and filled to the brim with uniquely gritty fight sequences, we discuss everything ranging from director Erik Matti's political commentary, Anne Curtis and Brandon Vera's FANTASTIC performances, as well as Sonny Sison's innovative and ambitious FMA based choreography. Although structurally its plot line is very similar to other action films before it, I guarantee you that you have never seen anything quite like it in its execution! I had the pleasure of going to see this one in theatres when it first came out two years ago, and you can go back and see my initial post/review on Instagram from that time as well! ‘Buy Bust' is currently on Netflix, so if you haven't seen it I suggest you go and check it out!!!!

ONE Championship Conquest of Champions, UFC Beijing, Crazy Max Muay Thai KO - Asian MMA Podcast Ep 8 This episode is brought to you by Heavyweight fights that don’t make it out of the first round because the last thing you want to see is big boys in minute 6 of a fight. I’m dana blouin and today we are talking about all the Asian MMA awesomeness that went down over the weekend and some to come. Earlier today I was on the Tiny Sumo daily drops on his IG channel talking about Asian MMA and everything going on in the scene. Be sure to check him out @Tiny_Sumo and I’ll have the full link below. https://www.instagram.com/tiny_sumo/ I need to start out by highlighting ONE Championship Conquest of Champions that took place in Manila, Philippines over the weekend. This event saw Edward Folayang defeat Amir Khan via unanimous decision to reclaim the lightweight championship. That is going to make things interesting with Eddie Alverez joining the ONE Championship roster and the upcoming Grand Prix. The main event of the same card saw ONE Championship Heavyweight champion Brandon Vera make quick work of Mauro Cerilli to retain the strap after two years away from the cage. In other news on that card Bangkok based fighter, Rockie Bactol was dealt his first loss against Akihiro Fujisawa being stopped with elbows in round 3. Rockie came up through the amateur circuits around Asia and was recently part of the ONE Warrior Series. While this is clearly a setback for Rockie, I am sure he will bounce back and be better than ever. On a side note to this ONE Championship event, I want to point out that while I was slacking off for Thanksgiving Anthony Engelen won back to back fights a week apart on short notice both times. Fist with a first round KO against an always game Meas Meul out of Cambodia, and the very next week a first round sub against Jimmy Yabo. Anthony is a fighter's fighter who is always willing to step up. That's why we love to watch him work. Next up we switch it up to UFC Beijing which took place over the weekend and was headlined by a heavyweight clash between Francis Ngannou and Curtis Blaydes, which saw Ngannou get back in the win column with a 45 second TKO victory over Blaydes. The co-main for the card was long time Asian MMA standout Alistair Overeem against Sergey Pavlovich which saw The Reem force a stoppage towards the end of round 1 with some very nasty ground and pound. Also on this card, we had woman’s strawweight standout Zhang Weili, who has been on an 18 fight win streak with 16 finishes stop Jessica Aguilar with an armbar in the first round… Take notice women’s strawweight. In non-MMA news, there was an interesting result in Max Muay Thai that saw fighter Gou Dakui knock out both his opponent and the ref. You can check that out here. https://www.facebook.com/thefightnation/videos/878739992333257/ Next weekend Lions Head Boxing Gym in Bangkok will be playing host to AMC Fight Night. They will have both pro and amateur boxing, kickboxing and MMA on the card. We are going to get to see Mostafa Ibrahim Radi make his pro-MMA debut at this event. He has a deep amateur record from Malaysia so I am going to be excited to see him stepping up to the pros. It looks like we also have Greg McGanja Edwards on the card who is based out of Team Quest Thailand up in Chaingmai. He is always game and comes to bang. But the real gem on this card is the main who comes right out of the Street Fighter video game, Stan Tskitishvili vs the local Bangkok legend Tangmo! I’ve talked about Stan on other episodes, he looked crisp at the last FMD and Tangmo is the guy who will take any fight and always has a punchers chance. This event is just 500 baht per head, so if you are in Ba

Dave and Kevin previewed and gave their predictions for UFC on FOX 4 including every preliminary bouts and the double main event of Lyoto Machida v. Ryan Bader and Brandon Vera v. It would frankly be difficult to imagine a more comprehensive hour – fine, hour and 10 minutes – of mixed martial arts talk than this week's Co-Main Event Podcast. During the time allotted for episode 11, Ben and Chad discuss Frank Mir journeying across the aisle to fight Daniel Cormier in Strikeforce, Nick Diaz coming out of “retirement” to “respectfully” request a fight with Anderson Silva and whether or not the UFC is just messing with us about the winner of Shogun Rua vs. Brandon Vera getting the next light heavyweight title shot. On top of that, the results of the first ever CME White Elephant Essay Contest are announced, Sir Nigel Longstock returns for MasterTweet Theatre and by the end the guys end up Just Saying Stuff. What are you waiting for? Jump on it. [Ed. Note: What's that you say? You detect some irregularities in sound quality, especially during round two? Yeah, look, at least one of the CME's microphones appears to be going the way of the dodo bird and it caused no end of problems this week. Never fear though, intrepid listener, as just moments ago the guys ordered a replacement. Should be all squared away by the next show. We hope.]
Kevin and George talk about UFC on Fox 4: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua vs. Brandon Vera
