Frank Shamrock calls himself "The First Super Athlete" in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Some might say that Frank lacks humility, but he was the first UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and retired undefeated from the organization. He revolutionized MMA and went deeper than anyone else, studying the body and optimizing his performance. While others focused on technical fighting, Frank dug into the biomechanics and became a force to be reckoned with. But get this, Frank didn't start off as a fighter. Actually, he found MMA while he was in jail at the tender age of 11. Frank had left his abusive home and turned to crime as a way to protect himself and get out of his situation. Sad, but true.Fast forward a bit, and Frank is in prison at 17 for 3 and a half years. That's when he had his big "aha" moment. He realized that he had ruined his life with 20 felonies, no education, and a baby to support.Frank understood that he had hit rock bottom, but he wasn't going to let that hold him back. He learned that changing his mindset and taking action was the first step to rebuilding his life. Today on Mushroom Hour we are joined by the fungal trifecta behind Umbo Medicinal Mushrooms – Rashad Evans, Jake Plummer and Del Jolly. Rashad Evans is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion who intimately understands the connection between mind and body, and the importance of having both in sync. He credits mushrooms for that one-two punch of focus + energy in training and competition, and then easing the transition from fighter to daily life. Rashad is passionate about transforming sports nutrition and transforming access to education so that others can have the same opportunities that he did. Jake Plummer is a Pro-Bowl NFL Quarterback who spent 10 years in the league earning a reputation as a natural leader. He inspired his teammates to believe in themselves and in each other – personal excellence for the sake of the team. This ethos is what drew him to natural medicine, eager to learn what mushrooms can do for each of us individually and how we can pool that collective power to help make a better world for all. Focused on shifting the cultural narrative, Del Jolly worked as part of Decriminalize Denver and Charlotte's Web CBD before co-founding Unlimited Sciences, a psychedelic research nonprofit partnered with the likes of Johns Hopkins University. He believes functional mushrooms have just as much, if not more, potential than psychedelics and is committed to exploring and unearthing everything he can. First pay per view of the year and we couldn't ask for better fights! Let's get things started as we give our thoughts on the performance of the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jamahal Hill! We dig into what could possibly be next for him and what his ceiling could be as a champion. From there, we move into the co-main event that saw Brandon Moreno putting a finish to the rivalry with Deiveson Figueiredo via doctor stoppage. We move into our recap of the rest of the main card and a few stand out fights from the undercard. With no fights to preview we decided to play a game where we each presented 3 out of the UFC fighters that we would trade with current UFC fighters. And lastly, we dive into a heavy week of news. This includes Francis's comments and future, Gordon Ryan signing a 7 figure deal, Leon Edwards taking on Kamaru Usman for a 3rd time, and much more.
