This week, Jacki and Lyle discuss the extraordinary interview Baroness Michelle Mone gave alongside her husband, Doug Barrowman, earlier this month on the BBC programme Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg. In a quite remarkable piece of television, Mone revealed that she had, in fact, lied to the press about how she and her family stood to profit to the tune of up to £60 million as a result of PPE contracts negotiated between her husband's company on the government at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Mone had herself recommended Barrowman's company to the government during a period of crisis for PPE provision during the pandemic, and as a member of the House of Lords it has been stated that profiting from this arrangement may well have presented ethical issues that are now being investigated. Barrowman's company is also under investigation due to the poor quality of the PPE provided as a result of the near £200 million contract. Jacki and Lyle discuss just how much this can be considered a PR fiasco, with particular reference to Mone's defence that she believed she had done nothing wrong, her repeated assertions that there was no case to answer, and the notion that she lied about the prospect of profiting from this crisis in order to protect her family. Jacki and Lyle demonstrate how passionate they are about this topic throughout, whilst also praising Kuenssberg for how she conducted the interview itself.Artwork by DimosoMusic by Lyle FultonGet in touch via lyle@dimoso.com or info@dimoso.comMore information at www.dimoso.com and www.therestispr.comFollow us on Twitter - @TheRestIsPR Hosted on Acast. King Charles' first State Opening of Parliament as monarch, provides plenty of pomp, pageantry and politics for Nish and Coco to get stuck into. It's a spectacle that throws up lots of questions, including who is Black Rod, and why does an MP get taken hostage by the Palace? As the Government presents its legislative agenda for the year ahead, we ask why is it so slim? Could it signal an early election? Nish and Coco are also incredulous as to why, with so much that needs fixing in this country, valuable space in the speech is given over to cracking down on pedicabs!!The New Statesman's politics correspondent Zoë Grünewald is on hand to explain the splits in Labour over Gaza, as we see the first resignation from Keir Starmer's front bench. We also discuss why so much political hot air is being expelled over this weekend's pro-Palestinian protest - is it really disrespectful to have an anti-war march on Remembrence weekend? One of the loudest critics has of course been Home Secretary Suella Braverman - following a string of controversial pronouncements, we wonder if she's actually trying to get herself sacked by Rishi Sunak?Plus in our Hero and Villain of the Week section, find out how a bowl of Potpourri helped raise £50,000 for charity, and why an underwear magnate could soon be under a vest! If you thought tax was boring, the latest New Money Review podcast will change your mind.Dan Neidle was a top corporate lawyer for 23 years—ending up as head of tax at London law firm Clifford Chance. But in 2022 he retired to set up a new think tank called Tax Policy Associates. Its aim is to improve UK tax policy and to improve the public understanding of the subject. This nerdish-sounding mission statement gave no indication of the political fireworks Neidle's new venture was shortly to ignite. In July 2022, he accused then-Chancellor Nadim Zahawi of having avoided £4m in capital gains tax a few years earlier. It later emerged that Zahawi was under investigation by his own subordinates in His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), as well as being the subject of a separate inquiry the National Crime Agency (NCA).Other campaigners had tried to expose Zahawi in previous years but had been put off by threats of legal action—the UK's infamous ‘strategic lawsuits against public participation' (SLAPPs), which often silence investigative journalists. But when Neidle received similar threats from Zahawi's lawyers he called the UK Chancellor's bluff. He went ahead and published his investigations. Zahawi was forced to back down.In September 2022, incoming UK prime minister Liz Truss replaced Zahawi as Chancellor and gave him another ministerial position. But in January 2023, Rishi Sunak, who had replaced Truss in October, fired Zahawi from the UK government. Citing the tax investigation which Neidle had been instrumental in bringing to light, Sunak said Zahawi had committed ‘a serious breach of the Ministerial Code'.Tax Policy Associates' more recent investigations touch on such sensitive topics as UK inheritance tax, the ‘carried interest' tax exemption enjoyed by private equity firms and the alleged involvement of the family of another Conservative politician, Michelle Mone, in a cover-up relating to government contracts for personal protective equipment (PPE) during the coronavirus pandemic. In the half-hour podcast discussion, I quiz Dan Neidle on a number of tax-related topics, including:Separating the goals of tax policy from the tax rulesWhether the complexity of tax codes aids illicit behaviourWhy the make-up of UK tax revenues has changed remarkably little over timeWhy the Liz Truss tax-cutting experiment went wrongThree ideas to improve UK tax policy (value-added tax, income tax and land tax)PPE contract fraudFailures in the UK's system of corporate transparencyWhy Companies House is a giant fraud robotWhy the UK remains a spectacularly successful venue for money launderingCoordinating the taxation of multinationalsWhy we should encourage the OECD's ‘Pillar 2' project

Tory Civil wars were brewing...yet where was Rishi Sunak? Well, watching Man City win the treble apparently. Jemma and Marina try to make sense of the outrage and indigantion of the Johnson stooges, as their main man gets forced out of Government...by himself. It seems the blob has a lot to answer for. Apparently, the blob even blocked Brexit...which is curious, given we've all been told that Johnson got that done.  Next, it's onto Grant Shapps, AKA Sebastian Fox AKA any other number of false names, as Shapps was wheeled out on Sunday to do the Sunday morning media rounds. Though perhaps the early morning start had him confused, given he appeared to forget which way he voted in the Brexit referendum. The ladies touch upon Sunday's Laura Kuenssberg show where Laura had outdone herself not once, but twice. First by inviting Nigel Farage on to talk his usual unhinged bollocks, but secondly by calling anyone that would prefer her show to state facts rather than lies - a nerd.  Then the ladies wrap up with some Michelle Mone-favoured schadenfreude and a musical 'farewell Johnson' pudding that may just get stuck in your head... According to devastating revelations in The Guardian, the Tory peer Michelle Mone is alleged to have lobbied on behalf of a company she reportedly made vast sums of money from - despite previous denials. These allegations need answers, of course - not least from Michael Gove, who told Sky News that he referred the bid to the appropriate civil service channels - but this seems to be contradicted by the evidence. So what is really going on? In this week's ‘News Roundtable' episode, host Chris Wright joins Will Jennings, professor of political science and public policy at the University of Southampton; Richard Taylor, political commentator, and broadcaster; and Angela Epstein, journalist, broadcaster, and commentator. The episode begins by discussing “partygate” and the Met's announcement that they will be issuing 20 fixed-penalty notices over Downing Street parties. The panel considers how this will impact the government if the prime minister receives a fine for breaching covid regulations and whether Johnson's luck of escaping the scandal is running out. The conversation touches on the government's mishandling of PPE contracts during the pandemic and whether Michelle Mone made a profit of as much as £76 million selling to the NHS.The conversation moves on to chew over the way that P&O Ferries sacked 800 members of staff to replace them with overseas agency staff. The panel argues whether there is a need for laws to prevent these situations from arising in the future and if the government has turned a blind eye to widespread pay abuses.  Together they also discuss the Royal tour of the Caribbean and the memorial service for the Duke of Edinburgh. Are the Royals out of tune with the rest of the country? And finally, the conversation ends with guests delving into the Oscars and whether Will Smith should be stripped of his award after “the slap.”Created & produced by Podcast Partners: www.podcastpartners.comSign up to receive updates by email when a new episode drops at www.wrightonthenail.fm

The by-election last night was a result for the Tories. However, their majority for this seat fell dramatically. Labour tried to badge it as good news for them, claiming that they are 'back in business'. But the poor voter turnout was more likely the reason for the fall in Tory votes rather than a swing in Labour's direction. With this win, will the Conservatives move on from the difficult month they've had? Perhaps not with more scandals appearing. Tory peer, Michelle Mone has just been accused of racism after some leaked WhatsApp messages show that she told a man of Indian heritage that he was a ‘waste of a man's white skin'. Marco Robert is an international business consultant and an inspirational speaker. Whether he’s shining on stage in front of thousands of people in Florida, advising members of a board of directors in South Africa, or coaching the CEO of a company in Malaysia, he can be described as a result-driven-disrupter. Equipped with the BOSS, his proprietary business framework, he challenges the status quo and finds solutions to the toughest business challenges. His entrepreneurial spirit was seeded at a young age as an apprentice in his family’s business. Later it sprouted on the benches of academia and finally blossomed through nearly three decades of business experiences.A cross between James Bond, Tony Robbins and my favorite University professor. He lives the high-octane life of a jet setter. At any given time, you could run into him on a flight from San Francisco to Singapore or a train from Zurich to Paris. He speaks several languages. His suits are tailor-made in Asia and South Africa. And he is an adept of single malts whiskeys and an erudite wine connoisseur. He’s a socialite who loves the company of others, but for a few months every year he isolates himself at his lake house, hidden somewhere in Northern Canada, to research and write. An unequaled business master, he understands all the different facets of business better than any of his contemporaries. Whether talking finance, leadership, customer service, re-organization, sales & marketing, operations or any of dozens of business topics, Marco holds himself with confidence.Accountants and consultants praise him, business strategists, marketers and sales people learn from him. And business owners simply love him for his passion and dedication to create results.A passionate speaker, mentor and author, he loves to share the findings of his research with business owners all over the world. His no-fuss and sometimes direct speaking approach makes him the darling of result-driven business people. He has rubbed elbows with business legends such as Jack Welsh, George Ross, Mark Norcross, Hugh Hilton, Michelle Mone, Mark and Randi Zuckerberg and many more. On stage Marco is transparent, passionate and even vulnerable, and his topics are always researched and inspirational. People are often surprised by his ability to connect the dots between running a business and being a good human being. During the same speech he can quote Warren Buffet and Friedrich Nietzsche without missing a beat – anything to have a visceral effect on his audience. In the end, he gets more standing ovations than any other business speakers. He is a learned business intellectual. He entertains himself by reading the Wall Street Journal, non-fiction books and by watching Bloomberg television. This week in RunPod, Jenni has to watch her Ps and Qs as she is joined by a Baroness. Michelle Mone is best known for founding Ultimo, a lingerie company that launched the Ultimo bra and in the process she developed a reputation as one of the UK's most successful women in business. However working relentlessly on her company took its toll and Michelle certainly felt that she neglected her health. Consequently when she sold Ultimo several years ago, she also took the opportunity to treat her body as a new business and started focusing on a healthier lifestyle which resulted in her going from a size 22 to a size 10! Michelle lost over 8 stone by assessing many factors and making changes which had a positive impact on her lifestyle, her body, her attitude to fitness and her happiness. She also started running. By taking up the latter, she recognises how her approach to fitness has changed everything for her - and has given her a more positive outlook on life which in turn has boosted her self-confidence. Michelle credits running as one of the key reasons to her being stress-free, happy and healthy in body and mind. Michelle talks about couples workouts, how you can fit running in when you are running an international business and the importance of prioritising fitness. If you are struggling to find the motivation - well Michelle might just give you the boost you need...happy running!

The Strengths Revolution with Steve Morgan | Strengths | Resources | Taking Risks

We shouldn't be happy just being critics; do so with constructive responses, so you are always being helpful in your role of criticising others. I have been a critic of the management culture in general in recent episodes of this show, but also need to stand up and be counted in my response alongside my criticism. I have chosen a process of transformation of my own recent work, particularly positive risk-taking and risk decision-making, to align it more with the needs of more senior managers and business leaders. These are people who are continually making high risk decisions, but in my experience in health and social care they commission me to work with their practitioners and teams, but don't take part in any of the work. It is my intention to refocus my work through the EPIC Program of online marketing and coaching, into a transformation statement directed to my new ideal client avatar through a new webinar that can lead some people through strategy sessions into my signature programme. It is my intention to offer a high degree of transformation for senior people experiencing difficulties or fears in relation to their decision-making. Michelle Mone is a lingerie tycoon who has recently publicly spoken about her daily fears about these decisions, despite being a very successful entrepreneur, so Michelle helps me to identify the type of people I wouls ideally want to be working with.
