This month, Larry, Will, Brooke and Ian delve into the tile placement boardgame known as Azul. Designed by Michael Kiesling and published by Next Move Games, this boardgame is based on the Portuguese art of tile placement, and has players forming patterns on their boards to win points. Can the bards finish the episode before their insides are melted by Celsius and Pre Workout?

Mark had to reign himself in considerably this week, what with the song temptations of the Talking Heads followed by his favourite torch song teased by Welcome to the Moon. He also tried to workshop a Gourds of Atlantis joke, but responses were--to put it mildly--not encouraging. It wasn't a total loss, as he managed to sneak in some Norse mythology in Telestrations. We have become feature-hungry here at SVWAG. We debut Walker's Language Corner which, let us be frank, is not apt to be repeated, especially given Walker's aversion to dead languages. We finally name a recurring segment that has been airing unaccredited for years, and we have dubbed in Mark's Rage Theatre. It is Festivus every day of the year, and Mark has some grievances to air. It was the fifth factory you had visited today, as you were trying to find three turquoise ceramic tiles to complete your pattern in the King's palace. You needed three - exactly - no more, no less. The first factory you had visited had no turquoise tiles, the second had four, the third had only one and the fourth had two. The factory you were in now, was the last one that made these tiles, and if it didn't have the exact number of turquoise tiles you needed, you had to go back to the previous one and make do with two, which would put you behind schedule and make the King angry. Yet, you were in luck. The factory overseer told you that they had your tiles and exactly three of them. You were so pleased that you found three tiles that were all Azul by Next Move Games.Read the full article here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2020/09/19/azul-saturday-review/

Shelley and I have some fun with a quick and easy card game (that's better with MORE than 2 players) 5211 by Tsuyoshi Hashiguchi from Next Move Games and then try a new twist on building rails across the United States in Railroad Revolution: Railroad Evolution Expansion by Marco Canetta and Stefania Niccolini from What's Your Game?

Another round about the sun is complete, at least for those who acknowledge that sort of thing. I'm certain there must be a strand of Flat Eartherism that bows to the reality of the Earth's orbit--I could find out, but boardgaming already more than satisfies my desire for obscure minutia. We look back at the releases of the year, agreeing on many things but rather sharply disagreeing on others. There will be lists! And categories! Oh, the pageantry!
