Hot Game Magnet: Board game reviews

In today's episode we look at an awesome game Azul, a board game by Michael Kiesling at Plan B Games. This game is for those people that wish they could tile the Alhambra, but in Portugal for a King, and hate themselves, for dropping tiles on the ground. If it wasn't your fantasy before, I'm sure it is now! You have to select the tiles which will most hurt your opponent. Rather than what you think will look pretty on the wall of the palace. This is a lighter game for us, but still showed great strength in components and replay ability. Get the full story by listening to our podcast! Azul: https://amzn.to/2ULsJd1 Introduced by the Moors, azulejos (originally white and blue ceramic tiles) were fully embraced by the Portuguese when their king Manuel I, on a visit to the Alhambra palace in Southern Spain, was mesmerized by the stunning beauty of the Moorish decorative tiles. The king, awestruck by the interior beauty of the Alhambra, immediately ordered that his own palace in Portugal be decorated with similar wall tiles. As a tile-laying artist, you have been challenged to embellish the walls of the Royal Palace of Evora. In the game Azul, players take turns drafting colored tiles from suppliers to their player board. Later in the round, players score points based on how they've placed their tiles to decorate the palace. Extra points are scored for specific patterns and completing sets; wasted supplies harm the player's score. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Guten Morgen liebe Klasse!

I haven’t played an Euro with good theme since O2. And that wasn’t a game for beginners either. In fact it was quite a hard day. Michael Chamberlain was very excited about this one but, since for him a headache induced by a game is the best way to rate how good a game is, I was a bit apprehensive. The fact that this game is by Michael Kiesling and Wolfgang Kramer did put me at ease a bit, but not much. It sounded like a heavy game and I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it. Then we started to play it and I have to say this game surprised me… a lot. As well as looking totally gorgeous, the game plays with some mechanics and mechanisms that surprised me in the best possible way. Hope you enjoy the show!
