Musicians recount the strange and unexpected story behind the making of your favorite albums. Harry Nilsson ping-ponged through the songwriter-for-hire business and got some very famous admirers in the process before finding critical success with his breakthrough hit Nilsson Schmilsson. The fellas welcome an old friend and discuss half-baked song structures, detuned bass parts, and what song to listen to while crying in the Target parking lot. On today's episode of "Musicians that should be a household name" we're talking about Harry Nilsson!!! Sure, he was talked about plenty in his day, but what if I were to tell you that "One is the loneliest number", "Put the lime in the coconut", and the "Gotta get up" song from the show Russian Doll were all from the same dude! Would you talk about him then?? Nilsson was a songwriter's songwriter and you'll have to listen to this episode to find out why. Aaaaannd, today we have on another member of the 200 podcast episodes club, with George Heftler of the recently defunct "Best Little Horror Pod In Philly", in which every episode for 200 episodes, he (and his famous guests) tried to determine what the best horror movie ever made was. Round of applause for that!!!!

“Put a lime in the coconut and drink 'em both together; Put the lime in the coconut, then you feel better; Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em both down; Put the lime in the coconut, and call me in the morning” Put the Lime in the Coconut This popular novelty song from the 1972 album Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson finds a girl in tummy trouble after drinking a concoction of lime and coconut. She calls her exasperated doctor in the middle of the night, who suggests she take a little of the hair of the dog that bit her. Welcome back to Home Brew Rock Stars Episode 77 and although we are not putting limes in coconuts we are putting orange slices in Belgian White beer and THC & CBD's in beer and that sounds like much more fun! In this episode we have the privilege and honor of having Dr. Keith Villa call in to our show. Keith has a Ph.D. in brewing science and fermentation biochemistry. If the name is not familiar to you it should as Keith was the brew master that brought Blue Moon beer to the masses. After 32 years as brewer at MillerCoors (now named Molson Coors) Keith retired in 2018. Not long after his retirement he and his wife Jodi co-founded CERIA Brewing Co. to fulfill their dream of creating THC/CBD infused beers. Keith is an interesting guy that loves to talk about beer. The Home Brew Rock Stars crew enjoyed visiting with Keith about his journey into brewing, his time at MillerCoors and his new venture with Ceria Brewing Co. CERIA's claim to fame is infusing THC and CBD's into great tasting no alcohol beer. No alcohol beer is absolutely necessary to infuse THC into it as federal law still recognizes cannabis as a schedule 1 drug, unlike the 18 states and the District of Columbia that have legalized recreational use. I know, I know, great tasting no alcohol beer? But yes Keith has a proprietary technique that removes all the alcohol but still has great taste. Come on man ya gotta trust the guy that brought us Blue Moon. He also tells us how to make any homebrew a great tasting low alcohol (0.5% ABV) beer. Check out Keith's brand new book titled Brewing With Cannabis: Using THC and CBD in Beer, he shares great tips on brewing beer, low alcohol beer, growing cannabis and more. If you have not figured it out WE LOVE BEER and if you have a homebrew that you would like us to try and review on the podcast contact us and we will make arrangements to get it into our thirsty hands. Big thanks to our program sponsors Pig Minds Brewing, Artale & Co, and 815 Gardens and Brewing for all their suds and support, we love you guys! Looking for a great craft beer and some of the best vegan food in the state line? Try Pig Minds Brewing. Seeking a hard to find commercial craft beer, wine or spirits to take home or as a gift? Stop in to Artale & Co, Anthony and Aaron have plenty of great suggestions. After you finish reading Dr. Villa's book we're sure you want to start your own cannabis garden and when you are ready stop in to 815 Gardens and Brewing, Bob will be happy to help. Tell them that HomeBrew Rockstars sent ya. As always we appreciate if you make sure to Like us, Follow us and RATE US! Prost! #drinkitup
Harry Nilsson's most commercially successful album, “Nilsson Schmilsson”, was released in November 1971, producing three of his best-known songs, including his number 1 hit "Without You", written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of the group "Badfinger". I remember the “Nilsson Schmilsson” album well. I loved that album, especially, the hit song, “Without You.” Nilsson's version of the song starts with only a solo piano and his voice. As I listen to a remastered version of it now, I am further blown away by the sound of Nilsson's voice. The song holds a special place in my memory for a lot or reasons. In spite of the sadness that encountered this song in my life, it still will always be one of my favorite pop songs of all time. 1941 (1967)Sleep Late, My Lady Friend (1967)There Will Never Be (1967)Without Her (1967)Good Old Desk (1968)Everybody's Talkin' (1968)One (1968)Nobody Cares About the Railroads Anymore (1969)City Life (1969)Dayton, Ohio – 1903 (1970) Think About Your Troubles (1970)Bath (Remix, 1971)Mr. Richland's Favorite Song (Remix, 1971) The Moonbeam Song (1971)I'll Never Leave You (1971)You're Breakin' My Heart (1972)The Lottery Song (1972)Lazy Moon (including As Time Goes By) (1973)Don't Forget Me (1974)Old Forgotten Soldier (1974)Easier for Me (1975)The Ivy Covered Walls (1976)Will She Miss Me (1976)All I Think About Is You (1977)Perfect Day (1977)
Favorito de los Beatles y conocido mundialmente por reinventar canciones de otros artistas, el cantante ha sido subestimado en los registros de la música popular.
Rich Kimball, host of Downtown on Zoom Radio, brought his extensive knowledge of Harry Nilsson and of music in general to this episode of You, Me and An Album. We discussed Nilsson's best-known and most successful album, Nilsson Schmilsson, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 chart subsequent to its late 1971 release.Find Rich on Twitter: @DowntownRichKDowntown with Rich Kimball website: http://www.downtownwithrichkimball.com/Here's a link to the song that Alice Cooper performed for Zak Nilsson on Coffee Talk with ADIKA Live (discussed at 9:18): https://au.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/alice-cooper-harry-nilsson-son-zak-song-21507/CORRECTION: I stated that Jump Into The Fire ends with a fadeout of the drum solo, but I should have said it ends with a fadeout of a two-minute instrumental section that follows the drum solo.IRONY ALERT: I am aware that I went out of my way to not mention IBM by name in reference to their ad that used Jump Into The Fire, but then later in this episode, I dropped a reference to Google Calendar.1:00 Rich joins the show2:21 How Rich got into radio and TV4:49 Why Rich chose Nilsson Schmilsson as his album to discuss9:18 Alice Cooper's song for Zak Nilsson10:30 Rich's favorite Nilsson Schmilsson tracks15:00 What Rich likes about the album as a whole16:59 Al's beef with the track sequencing18:15 The similarities between Nilsson Schmilsson and Pretzel Logic21:10 Al's initial observations Track-by-track breakdown:25:05 Gotta Get Up26:32 Driving Along28:17 Early In The Morning30:52 The Moonbeam Song33:06 Down35:19 Without You41:31 Coconut42:55 Al's post-recording thoughts about Coconut43:41 Let The Good Times Roll45:16 Jump Into The Fire48:51 I'll Never Leave You 50:31 Is Nilsson Schmilsson Rich's favorite Nilsson album?

When the Beatles famously said Nilsson was their favorite artist. He went from a great songwriter to a world renown stardom. Nilsson was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists of his era to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing major public concerts or undertaking regular tours. The craft of his songs and the defiant attitude he projected remains a touchstone for later generations of indie rock musicians. We talk to the biggest Nilsson fan that I know and I feel like she could be in the running for biggest fan in the Midwest!

Brian and Bill are joined by podcaster Dan Drago (25oclockpod.com) to talk about Harry Nilsson's triumphant hit album, Nilsson Schmilsson (1971, RCA Victor). Nilsson started his career as both a recording artist and songwriter who finally broke when Three Dog Night covered his tune "One" in 1969. He enjoyed continued success with a series of unique albums through the 70s before retiring from the music business in the 80s. Dan shares how he knew Nilsson without knowing it, until he checked out this album after not getting an in-joke perpetuated by his brother and their friends' band. Bill, Brian, and Dan talk about Nilsson's influence on solo Beatles output, his collaboration with Randy Newman, the idiosyncratic humor found on this album, multi-Harry harmonies, the Bo Diddley beat, Badfinger and their sad story, how Nilsson wrote a song that feels like it wasn't written by anyone, Nilsson's continuing legacy, and much more as we make our way through the album track by track!
Felipe y Diego hablan de Nilsson Schmilsson, de Harry Nilsson, el mejor y más celebrado álbum del cantante y compositor, con una versión para el recuerdo como Without You, además de grandes temas como Jump into the Fire.
On the 83rd instalment of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, we increase the goalie content to lead off this week's show. 'Tenders are struggling everywhere you look, and Elan and Brian break down the short- and long-term future of starter jobs in Anaheim, Colorado, Arizona, Edmonton and Chicago, including some reserved excitement for a Winnipeg call-up looking to make a strong first impression in his hopefully imminent first NHL start. We then begin our tour around the NHL's hot streaks and line changes by lavishing unexpected praise upon a young Western Conference forward who has taken his share of beatings on the show over the last 13 months-- we tell you what he's doing, why you should be happy about it, and why we might actually be believers this time around. That roundup also includes a member of the family in San Jose, an ever-fluctuation Tampa top-six, minor shuffling in Winnipeg, surprising non-shuffling in Detroit, and obviously Edmonton, where we talk about a new entry into the top six, a recent exit out of it, and then go on to mention Draisaitl's name roughly one hundred and forty two times. The show also covers some likely free agent defencemen who could be good multi-cat and streaming options for the next shot while, including a Ranger, a Capital, a Flyer and kind of a Cane but not really. This episode also features a handful of snoozers peppered throughout-- these are guys who are likely owned in your league, possibly even by you(!), whose worth to their owners needs to be seriously re-evaluated. We tAnd finally, the show caps off with a Lightning Round featuring more players than initially promised, including Washington's scoring leader, a crowded second line in Florida, and a still-got-it scorer in Toronto.Players discussed on this episode include Frederik Andersen, Cory Schneider, Anton Khudobin, Reto Berra, Tanner Pearson, Tyler Toffoli, Vladislav Namestnikov, Nikita Kucherov, Mike Smith, Anders Lindback, Drew Stafford, Nik Ehlers, Teddy Purcell, Nail Yakupov, Leon Draisaitl, Jussi Jokinen, Evgeni Kuznetsov, Brandon Pirri, Shane Gostisbehere, P.A.
