Ah, the "all killer, no filler" album. Records you can listen to from start to finish without a lull or dip in quality. It's a tougher exercise than one would think, as many of our favorite albums are flawed...perhaps beautifully or purposefully so, but that's not what this episode is about, kids. Joining us for this discussion is Ed Mazzucco and Laura Watling from Portland dream pop/shoegaze band Tears Run Rings. In September 2024, they released their fourth album, Everything In The End. And, true, to this episode's topic, it's a double album ("two hefty boys") that is a front-to-back modern classic., with each side having a distinct tone and feel. Everything In The End is out now of Shelflife Records, which, incidentally, is run by Ed and TRR singer/guitarist Matthew Bice. Since its 1995 roots in a Southern California bedroom, Shelflife has amassed an incredible catalogue of indie pop gems, including highly recommended releases by The Ocean Blue, Close Lobsters, Treasures of Mexico, Acid House Kings, The Caternary Wires, The Shermans, Souvenir, The Luxembourg Signal, Red Sleeping Beauty, Even As We Speak, Jetstream Pony, and much, much more. https://shelflife.com Thanks to Mike Turner from Crashing Through Publicity for the introduction! With the music landscape dominated by the grunge movement coming out of Seattle, it's little wonder that Pennsylvania's Riverside, a band influenced by the likes of The Smiths and Echo and the Bunnymen, didn't stand a chance. Featuring Keith Kochanowicz (vocals, guitar, organ) and his brother Glenn Kochanowicz (bass, vocals), Kenneth Jackson (guitars), and Geoff Verne (drums), the band's debut - and ultimately lone - album for Sire Records, One, was released in 1992. While featuring a number of alt-rock-radio friendly songs (“Waterfall,” “Cinnamon Eyes,”), Riverside couldn't catch a break and were dropped by the label despite finishing a sophomore album, Taste. More than 30 years after One's release, the Kochanowicz brothers hooked up with the Lost in Ohio record label and a Kickstarter campaign was launched to fund the first-ever pressing of the album on vinyl. Despite never achieving massive success in the ‘90s, the campaign was fully funded within weeks of the announcement and the vinyl will be available later this summer. In this conversation, the Kochanowicz brothers discuss the formation of the band, how fellow Pennsylvania band The Ocean Blue served as mentors, the realities of having a major label record deal in the ‘90s, and what happened after Sire dropped Riverside. Songs in this Episode: Intro - Waterfall 7:15 - General Nature 57:00 - Waterfall 1:04:48 - Marvel (from Taste) Outro - Cinnamon Eyes Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon. Season 4, Episode 75We've reviewed previous works for both of our artists on this episode, but we love it when they release new material. On this day we remember things. It's call Memorandum Day. I remember it well from my sea-faring days out on the ocean blue. Remember that band? The Ocean Blue? I once made a mix tape at my friend Greg's house and I put a song by them on there. It was a decent song. Always takes me back to that time when I hear it. It'll take you back too but you don't have to listen to some song by The Ocean Blue. Just listen to this episode and it'll be like your back there in Greg's living room listening to some pompous English band.Support the showhunchbunny.com

On April 2, 2023, the music world lost a pivotal figure in Seymour Stein. As a teenager, Stein worked for Billboard Magazine and was instrumental in the development of the standard bearer for measuring pop music success in the United States, the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1966, Stein co-founded Sire Records with Richard Gottherer. In the earliest days of the label, much of their focus was on bringing UK underground and progressive music to US record buyers, with distribution deals with London and ABC. Stein's most fruitful alliance was with Warner Brothers, where Sire was responsible for breaking punk, new wave, and alternative artists including Ramones, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Replacements, The Ocean Blue, and many more to American audiences...not to mention one of the biggest pop stars to walk the earth, Madonna. We salute the spectacular Sire Records catalogue and remember Seymour Stein this week. Syria's northern provinces were badly hit by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the region on Monday. Rescue efforts continue as aid trickles in through the border crossing between Turkey and northwest Syria. And, aid workers are also pouring into southern Turkey to help with earthquake relief efforts, but many victims are in rural areas that are tough to reach, especially in the winter. Also, the island nation of Kiribati is rejoining the Pacific Islands Forum, a regional alliance of 18 island states and territories. Kiribati left the group last year because its leaders said that concerns in Micronesia were not being addressed by the body as a whole. Plus, a bit of calm with "Ocean Blue."

Seriously, the first track on The Ocean Blue‘s self-titled 1989 debut on Sire Records was the – hook. The opening chords of “Between Something and Nothing” (featured on today’s AMM) lead into not only one of the defining moments of dream pop as we know it, but it’s also this…mood. This week is the week we have been waiting for. We have our multi talented amazing friend Dom Eustes here with us and we are talking dance, art, and being an all around badass. While we get the inside scoop on his mew projects, a surprise proposal (you read correctly!), and more, we also cover the massive amounts of tea in the NBA. This week for sports we cover some major free agency and buy outs for the NBA (if you don't know what those are, we teach you too!), as well as some of the most major updates on injuries. Tune in to get the scoop!
