If you're interested in astrology, PGA cleanup, and the most comprehensive preview of the Senior PGA Championship, this is the episode for you! Still basking in the afterglow of Scottie's win at the PGA, Andy and Brendan are in high spirits for this Wednesday episode. They first debate what a fair over-under is for Scottie Scheffler's career major wins and emphasize how hard it is to sustain an elite level of play for ten years. The two then do some more PGA wrap up and briefly look ahead to Oakmont and Royal Portrush, where they expect Jon Rahm to be a contender. On the PGA Tour, Scottie will tee it up again in Dallas for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Joining him there are Corey Pavin, Olin Browne, and David Frost, leading Brendan to question whether these olds will be competitive at Colonial. After making some fire picks for the week, this episode turns into a full-on preview of the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional. Brendan and PJ go through the field and discuss notables, including Andy's favorite, Lee Westwood! There are odds out there for this event, so picks are made for this major championship as well. In news, Detroit's TGL team will begin play in 2027 and some history was made at the USGA Fourball.
In this very special episode of Next on the Tee, 2011 U.S. Senior Open Champion Olin Browne and 1987 US Amateur Champion Billy Mayfair join the show. Olin shares his thoughts on the PGA Tour's controversial changes—smaller field sizes, fewer Monday qualifiers, and the dominance of signature events. Is the tour catering too much to top players at the expense of the grinders? Olin shares his perspective on how these changes might impact the next generation of Tour players. We also discuss the financial side of the game, from $25 million purses to sponsors pulling out. With TV ratings down and fans feeling disconnected from today's stars, what can the PGA Tour do to bring back its audience? Olin weighs in on whether accessibility and engagement changes could make a difference. Shifting gears, we reminisce about Olin's experiences at Oakmont, site of the 2025 U.S. Open. He reflects on his rounds there in ‘94 and ‘07, the legendary greens, and even witnessing Arnold Palmer's farewell. Billy Mayfair was also witness to The King's final US Open round and talks about sticking around following his Friday round to see it. We discuss his trip to Morocco to open up his Champion's Tour season. Billy reflects on his legendary iron play, including a streak of six consecutive birdies on Par 3s last season—an impressive feat on today's long courses. Billy also gives his perspective on equipment advancements, comparing today's clubs and balls to those from earlier eras. He recalls playing alongside icons like Nicklaus, Palmer, Player, and Trevino, sharing his favorite memories from competing against legends. Billy also gets candid about his journey in professional golf, revealing how he turned pro without telling his parents and when he finally broke the news. Finally, we check in on his wife, Tami, who has been a huge influence on his career—both as a caddie and in her own golf endeavors—and ask Billy how much longer he envisions competing at a high level, given that Bernhard Langer is still winning at 67! It's a fascinating discussion with two of golf's true competitors—don't miss it!
In Part 1 of a special "Happy Birthday to Me" episode of the show, I'm joined by 2011 US Senior Open Champion Olin Browne, and The Godfather of Golf Talk Radio John Patrick, whom I regard as the finest Golf & Talk Show Radio Host ever. Olin Browne shares insights on why Scottie's career trajectory resembles that of Tiger's. Additionally, we delve into Ludvig Aberg's apparent enjoyment during the typically tense final nine holes of The Masters on Sunday. Olin also recounts his experiences competing in the Senior PGA Championship at Valhalla in 2011, which is also the venue for this year's PGA Championship, and the US Open at Pinehurst in 2005, the location of this year's US Open. In the second segment, I'm joined by the best to ever do it, John Patrick. John is the gold standard for what golf talk radio should sound like. We delve into Augusta National's recent property acquisitions adjacent to the Club, speculating on what their plans may be. He discusses the challenging winds that affected the tournament over Friday and Saturday, offers insights into Tiger's future and what might need to happen in order for Rory to secure a victory there. Additionally, we get into what might be causing the declining television ratings of the PGA Tour. Check out his show at www.augustagolfshow.com In Part 2, I'll cover those same topics with 1983 PGA Champion Hal Sutton and former Tour Player and now CBS Analyst Frank Nobilo.

I also asked Olin if his strategy is different now playing in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs than it is playing in a regular Tour tournament because the field gets narrowed down every week during the playoffs. On this episode of Next on the Tee my guests are: Donnie Hammond, Olin Browne and Eric Meeks. Donnie shared his thoughts on the golf ball controversy and if it makes sense to have one ball for Tour players and a different ball for the rest of us. He also shared memories from his times playing in the 1986 Masters and how a putt putt course near his house helped prepare him for putting on those greens. Donnie also gave us a tip for how to improve your chipping. Olin Browne talked about his season so far on the Champions Tour, memories from his times playing in The Masters, his 40 foot chip in to defeat Larry Mize at the 1998 Hartford Open plus memories from his victory at the 2011 US Senior Open. Eric Meeks shared his memories of playing his college golf at the University of Arizona, what it was like being a part of the 1989 US Walker Cup team with Phil Mickelson, his experience playing in the 1989 Masters, his conversation with Byron Nelson and Sam Snead and more recently playing in the 2016 US Senior Open Championship at Scioto Country Club.
Olin Browne is one of golf’s great late-bloomers. The Occidental College grad didn’t break through on the PGA Tour until he was 39, when he won the Greater Hartford Open. Two more victories followed, including the Deutsche Bank Championship at the ripe age of 46. Six years later he took the U.S. Senior Open, torching Inverness. At 58, he continues to dig the secrets out of the dirt on the Champions tour. Olin sat down with Alan Shipnuck recently to talk about all things growing old in the game. Oh yeah, he's not going anywhere any time soon...unless his pro golfer son keeps beating him.

The Rotary Club of Kona organizes the volunteers with Kris Hazard and Larry Webb continuing as volunteer co-chairs and in return the tournament donates to the Rotary Club of Kona Community Foundation. Big Island Junior Golf is one of the charities as well. I always look forward to Saturday when the keiki from the Big Island Junior Golf in Hilo sponsored by Mitsubishi come to the tournament after they play their own tournament at Mauna Lani Resort. They are knowledgeable golf fans and so enthused when getting autographs. While players are good with the fans, they are especially attentive to the juniors. In the past Tom Watson and Hale Irwin each year have a special interaction with the keiki joking and interacting with them as they signs autographs. I have friends who were junior golfers when this event started 20 years ago on the Big Island and no question being around this quality golf inspired my friends to practice, get on their high school team, earn college scholarships and a handful are now professional golfers. The Daniel R Sayre Foundation is another one of the charities. The Foundation was created by Dr. Frank and Laura Sayre in memory of their son Daniel who lost his life in a hiking accident 20 years ago in Pololu Valley. Recognizing the need for rescue equipment, the Daniel R Sayre Foundation with tremendous community support has raised well over a million dollars in monies and equipment for our Hawaii County Fire Department and Rescue Teams. David Marr III, Mark Rolfing, and Jay Radzavicz all with NBC Golf Channel return each year to be part of the broadcasts and reports from the Mitsubishi Electric Championship and lend their support for an event at Nanea with some of the Champions Tour players raising funds for the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association. The PGA Tour, Brendan Moynahan, Director of Golf Hualalai Golf Club and his staff, Kahu Billy Mitchell, “Uncle” Earl Regidor Manager, Ka’upulehu Cultural Center, the Four Seasons Resort staff and the volunteers have year after year created a world class event with players that just might inspire you to work on your golf game a little more or volunteer next year.

Even on the PGA Tour, the swings of the best ball strikers all have different shapes and styles -- from the classic actions of Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, to the unusual moves of Jim Furyk, John Daly, and Sergio Garcia. But there is one thing these great players all do have in common. The essence of good ball striking is proper use of the club through the impact zone. It's what Tiger, Ernie, Jim, John and Sergio all do exactly alike.
