I draw inspiration from Johnny Miller, whose poignant narrative about losing his fiancée, Sophie, highlights the profound lessons that grief can impart. Through his experiences, we explore the concept that grief is not merely an inconvenience to be avoided, but rather a natural, and at times, beautiful aspect of our humanity. By embracing our emotions fully, we can transform grief into a source of guidance, prompting us to reconnect with life's deeper meanings.I emphasize that allowing grief to flow through us rather than resisting it can be therapeutic. When we allow ourselves to feel and experience our emotions, we prevent the buildup of what Johnny describes as emotional debt. This episode encourages listeners to practice feeling grief in its raw form, without the burdensome narratives we often attach to it. By adopting simple rituals—like lighting a candle, walking in nature, or even taking a moment to sit in stillness—we can create spaces for our emotions and enable them to move through us naturally. We discuss the power of simultaneous grief and joy, a lesson I have come to learn personally through my own losses. I stress that experiencing these conflicting emotions is not a sign of weakness; instead, it is through the cultivation of resilience that we find the ability to recover more swiftly from life's challenges. The goal is not to escape discomfort but to learn to navigate it with grace.During a guided visualization towards the episode's climax, I invite listeners to reflect on their own experiences of loss. This practice serves as a gentle reminder that grief can manifest in various forms, often leading to feelings of being unmoored or uncertain about one's identity. I encourage listeners to welcome their emotions, suggesting that when we sit with our feelings—rather than pushing them away—we learn more about ourselves and the depth of our humanity.#GriefHealing #EmotionalWellness #NervousSystemReset #MindBodyHealing #EmotionalIntelligence #Resilience #PodcastCommunity #SelfCareJourney #TraumaInformed #MentalHealthMatters #HealingJourney #EmotionalFluidity #SomaticHealing #CopingStrategies #PersonalGrowth #MindfulnessPractice #Acceptance #VulnerabilityIsStrength #SelfCompassion #InnerPeace #NervousSystemRegulation #EmotionalAwareness #AdaptAndOvercome #EmbraceChange #TrustYourBody #StressRelief #HolisticHealth #SpiritualAwakening #TransformativeJourney #AnxietyCoachesPodcast #GinaRyan #JonnyMiller #GaborMate #TheMythOfNormal #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

My passion for exploring how our bodies can facilitate a return to calm and peace takes center stage. I emphasize the importance of integrating bodily sensations into our healing processes rather than merely relying on cognitive techniques, which is a perspective that is gradually gaining traction in the psychological community.I discuss the foundational concepts of somatic psychology and trauma healing, including principles from the polyvagal theory created by Dr. Stephen Porges. This theory is essential in understanding how our nervous systems respond to stimuli and how we can leverage body-focused techniques to signal safety and calm to our brains. By recognizing that our bodies can inform our mental states, we can build resilience and enhance our emotional regulation skills.I refer to key figures in this field, such as Deb Dana, who translates the complexities of polyvagal theory into practical strategies, and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, whose book "The Body Keeps the Score" highlights how trauma is stored physically and the importance of incorporating movement and breathwork in recovery. Additionally, I touch upon the work of Peter Levine with Somatic Experiencing, illustrating how all these methodologies advocate for engaging the body as a pathway to emotional healing.#AnxietyCoachesPodcast #BottomUpHealing #NervousSystemRegulation #SomaticExperiencing #PolyvagalTheoryApplied #TraumaInformed #MindBodyConnection #CalmYourBody #SelfRegulationSkills #StressManagement #EmotionalFreedom #ResilienceBuilding #DiscomfortTolerance #AngerAsEnergy #BreathworkBenefits #ColdExposureTherapy #MovementAsMedicine #HealingJourney #InnerPeace #GinaRyanPodcast #StephenPorges #DebDana #BesselVanDerKolk #PeterLevine #GaborMate #TheBodyKeepsTheScore #WakingTheTiger #WhenTheBodySaysNo #MythOfNormal #AntiFragility #GinaRyan #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In today's episode, Gina discusses how to use the wisdom of the body to overcome anxiety. Anxiety is actually there to serve us and not a dysfunction in itself. I explore the reasons behind our feelings of fear and anxiety, particularly the exhausting unrelenting kind that many experience daily. The conversation centers on how reframing our understanding of these emotions can lead to greater peace and calm, transforming how we interact with our own mental states.Drawing inspiration from a podcast I recently listened to featuring Johnny Miller, I share insights into the intersection of grief and the nervous system. His approach stood out to me because it encompasses not just mental exercises, but also the physical aspect of emotional processing. It's crucial, I assert, to recognize that the body plays a significant role in achieving calm and balance, especially when dealing with anxious feelings. I invite listeners to explore the concept that anxiety can be an alert signal, much like a smoke alarm warning us of danger, but often it may also respond to trivial situations like burnt toast.I emphasize that many have a tendency to treat anxiety as a scourge rather than understanding it as an expression of deeper emotions that may need addressing. Our nervous systems are wired for protection, prompting instinctual responses to perceived threats. However, I highlight the hopeful reality that our systems are always striving to return to a state of balance, and that we can facilitate this through somatic practices. The conversation takes a turn towards personal resilience, particularly through recognizing emotions as they arise rather than suppressing them, a phenomenon I term "emotional debt."#AnxietyAwareness#MentalWellnessJourney#BreatheAndHeal#BodyMindSpirit#CalmnessWithin#FearLess#EmotionalFreedom#NervousSystemHealth#SomaticHealingJourney#InnerCalm#StressRelief#MindfulLiving#SelfCareRoutine#HolisticHealth#PolyvagalTheoryInPractice#ResilienceMindset#HealingJourney#AnxietyHelp#EmotionalRegulationSkills#TraumaHealing#PersonalDevelopment#WellnessPodcast#ACP#Gina Ryan#AnxietyCoachesPodcastSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In this episode of Basic Bogeys, TJ and Gary welcome back Bud Copeland to break down the biggest week in golf: the U.S. Open at historic Oakmont. The crew dives into why Oakmont is the ultimate test in championship golf—from brutal rough and lightning-fast greens to the deep history of the course itself. Bud shares his experience from Pinehurst last year, and the team compares what makes Oakmont a beast of its own. They talk about YouTube creators like Good Good and Bryan Bros getting early looks at the course, and how that access brings fans closer to the game. With references to legends like DJ, Johnny Miller, and Tiger, plus chatter about rough length, stimp speeds, and potential winning scores. We also make some very insightful picks for the US Open. TJ goes all-in on Jon Rahm, using his signature “signs” bit to creatively build a case for the Sun Devil, citing Rahm's power, short swing, and red-hot potential at +1200 odds. Gary goes slightly off the board with Collin Morikawa, valuing his precision and recent form, while Bud takes the safe bet with current world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, comparing his dominance to Usain Bolt pulling away from the pack. The crew also throws out fun props, including Rory McIlroy to miss the cut, and debate the likability of top players based on their media behavior. The episode ends with playful banter about TikTok trolls, internet haters, and shoutouts to chirpy commenters—proving once again that the Basic Bogeys boys don't just dish out takes, they take the heat and laugh it off.Send us a message and let us know what you thought about this episode! Will Doctor gives you the sharpest card for the U.S. Open at Oakmont. -Going over top 7 names on odds board -1 matchup -2 top nationality tickets -3 futures outrights (+350, 14/1, 18/1) -2 outrights added (100/1 & 150/1) -Sleeper, 2 lineups, scoring -Best bet For more on the world of golf, follow Doc on X @drmedia59 In the "U.S. Open at Oakmont Picks and Predictions" podcast, Will Doctor provides a comprehensive betting preview of the upcoming U.S. Open at Oakmont. Beginning at 0:16, Doctor sets the tone with energetic anticipation, positioning Oakmont as a legendary course hosting the U.S. Open for a record tenth time. From 0:43, he sharply critiques the previous RBC Canadian Open, describing the Osprey Valley course as “a disgrace” and detailing a 5.8-unit loss that week, with Sam Burns' top-20 finish as the lone success. Despite the setbacks, he praises Ryan Fox's recent success, highlighting the Kiwi's two playoff victories in four starts and his historic Canadian Open win, the first by a New Zealander since 1968. Doctor then shifts focus to Oakmont's rich history. He recounts notable U.S. Open wins, including Tommy Armour (1927), Sam Parks Jr. (1935), and Ben Hogan's record-setting 1953 season. He emphasizes Jack Nicklaus' 1962 victory over Arnold Palmer at age 22, which kickstarted Nicklaus' legendary career. Johnny Miller's final-round 63 in 1973 is labeled the greatest round in U.S. Open history, despite not being the lowest score ever. Further champions like Larry Nelson (1983), Ernie Els (1994), Angel Cabrera (2007), and Dustin Johnson (2016) round out Oakmont's storied hosting record. At 12:00, Doctor begins his betting picks. He endorses Scottie Scheffler (+350) as outright number one, citing dominant recent wins and past experience at Oakmont, where he missed the cut by one in 2016. Bryson DeChambeau, with a futures ticket from December at 14-1, is lauded for his driving power and improved approach play, though his recent accuracy issues raise concern. DeChambeau claims Oakmont is “the toughest test in the world right now,” and Doctor remains confident in his form. Rory McIlroy is passed over due to a poor performance at the Canadian Open, including erratic driving and uninspired play. Doctor quotes Rory discussing his struggle for motivation and interest in hobbies like tennis. John Rahm, however, is preferred in a head-to-head matchup (-133), praised for his polished game despite recent putting inconsistency. Doctor argues Rahm is better equipped than Rory to handle Oakmont's demands. Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa are also faded. Xander's driving accuracy is flagged as a season-long weakness, and Morikawa is critiqued for losing strokes around the green in five of his last six starts, rendering him unfit for a major requiring elite scrambling. Ludwig Åberg is highlighted as a top Nordic pick at +180, benefiting from strong recent form and inconsistent competition, with Joachim Lagerlund identified as his main threat. Doctor names Hideki Matsuyama as top Japanese player at even money, emphasizing his elite U.S. Open history and the weak form of his countrymen. Outright picks include Scheffler (+350), DeChambeau (14-1), Brooks Koepka (18-1, faded due to poor form), Keegan Bradley (100-1, riding strong recent finishes), and Cam Young (150-1), who's gained strokes off the tee and on the greens recently. Young's playoff qualification over top names and his form earn him sleeper status. Two fantasy lineups are provided. A DraftKings build includes Rahm, Åberg, Spieth, Bradley, Young, and Leishman. The PGA Tour lineup features Scheffler (captain), Bradley, DeChambeau, and Young, with Åberg and Leishman on the bench. Doctor predicts a winning score of -3, depending on weekend rain, and offers Cam Young to finish top 28 at +320 as his best bet. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The week of April 21, 1975 saw Jack Nicklaus on the cover of Sports Illustrated after he had won his 5th Masters in a classic tournament by one stroke over Tom Weiskopf and Johnny Miller. It was the Golden Bear's 13th major championship and came one year after he had already been inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Inside that issue was another excerpt from the book Nice Guys Finish Last by another Hall of Famer… Leo Durocher was put into Cooperstown after amassing the 5th most wins as a manager when he retired after the 1973 season with the Houston Astros with a total of 2,008 victories which now ranks him 12th all-time. In his 23 years as a skipper, Leo the Lip won one World Series which came in 1954 and went to another in '51 when his Giants overcame the Dodgers 13.5 game lead and won the pennant on the Shot Heard Round the World before beating the Yankees in 6 games. It was one of the greatest comebacks in sports history and Bobby Thompson became a legend for his 3-run pennant winning HR off Ralph Branca of the Brooklyn Dodgers to complete the Giants ascent to the Fall Classic. A moment that will forever live in baseball lore that now 74 years later lives in controversy. That's because of a telescope, a buzzer and a scheme the Giants implemented that helped them figure out what pitches were coming and catapulted New York to finish the season winning 37 of their final 44 games and overtake the Dodgers on the final pitch of the final inning of the final game of their season prior to the World Series. A fastball that Thompson knew was coming. Author and journalist Joshua Prager heard about this story and started to investigate it, and soon he had enough to write a front-page story for the Wall Street Journal and in 2006, a book called The Echoing Green: The Untold Story of Bobby Thompson, Ralph Branca and the Shot Heard Round the World. He goes into great detail of how the Giants took their 3rd base coach, Herman Franks, and put him in the clubhouse in centerfield armed with a telescope and a buzzer to alter the course of baseball history. Prager joins us on Past Our Prime and tells us how Thompson and Branca's lives were both forever altered by that one pitch and how years later they were able to get past it and move on. He tells us how Franks confessed to him what took place right before he died, over 50 years after it all took place. And he tells us how a young 20-year old kid by the name of Willie Mays wanted to know what pitches were coming but didn't want to come to bat in that bottom of the 9th inning and watched from the on-deck circle as Thompson connected for the famous/infamous 3-run blast. Before the Astros banged their way to a World Series title in 2018 it was the Giants and Leo Durocher who were doing whatever it took to get an advantage back in 1951. Nice guys finish last but what about cheaters? In this case, they became world champs and we tell you how it all went down with Joshua Prager on this weeks Past Our Prime podcast. This week on Next on the Tee, is a Special Masters Preview edition of the show. I'm taking you inside the ropes and into the heart of Augusta National with four incredible guests who've lived The Masters—from competing in the tournament a combined 18 times to calling the action for CBS Sports. In Part 1, is one of the all-time great ball strikers in PGA Tour history and a local Georgia golf legend, Tim Simpson. Making his ninth appearance on the show, Tim shares what it was like playing in The Masters six times, with his best finish coming in 1985 when he tied for 18th. A proud Atlanta native and UGA alum, Tim opens up about both the highs and the struggles he faced at Augusta, particularly on those famously challenging greens. Next, I'm joined by a longtime friend of the show Donnie Hammond. Donnie played in The Masters four times, beginning in 1986—the year he found himself in the second-to-last group on Sunday, paired with none other than Bernhard Langer. Donnie reflects on the excitement of that final round and the intensity of hearing the roars from all over the course as Jack Nicklaus made his legendary charge. He also takes us back to 1975 when he worked at Augusta during another unforgettable Masters, won by Jack in a dramatic finish over Tom Weiskopf and Johnny Miller. Donnie shares stories about being on the grounds both as a player and a fan, giving us a rich, inside look at one of golf's most iconic events.
Billy Horschel and Gabby Herzig joined Gary Williams on the program today. Herzing, a writer for The Athletic, talked about the latest she is hearing on PGA TOUR/LIV talks and what the fans want to see from all of this, what tweaks TGL might need to make for a sustainable future with fans and how Rose Zhang is among the many LPGA stars that don't think the tour is doing enough to promote their stars.Horschel, the recipient of the Charlie Bartlett Award, talked about why it is important for him to give back; what playing in the TGL environment is like; his friendship with Arthur Blank, his understanding of why golf fans are disenchanted, how to make the televised product and a desire for a more critical TV booth in the mold of Johnny Miller.Gary Willams addressed Anna Nordquist being named the European Solheim Cup captain and how the game of golf is getting younger and younger and some of the reasons behind that movement.

Brains addled after 'Megalopolis', I attempted and then discarded the idea to do 'Blazing Saddles' but was left wanting. So then, in a way I don't fully understand, but probably having to do with the idea of films that are said to be 'so bad they're good', I somehow arrived at the idea of doing Iain Softley's 1995 film 'Hackers' starring Angelina Jolie in her first onscreen role, Johnny Miller, and pre-fame Wendell Pierce and Felicity Huffman.

A Guide's Perspective: Iconic Guest: John G Miller –The East Coast Early Season Tactics and Flies We start off the ‘Matching the Hatch' multi-episode/ docu-series with this bug-crazed iconic Catskill guide- ( John will have a two-part session) This undisputed “bug doctor”: Johnny Miller, has forgotten more about insects and hatches in a week than most people will learn in a lifetime. I seriously have never seen anyone so possessed by entomology and his amazing macro aquatic insect photographing passion as Johnny. Along with chasing super selective, sipping wild big browns and rainbows with his clients, his photography has appeared in numerous books like My “Selectivity” and “Brown Trout Nexus”, also in books for Dick Pobst, Carl Richards, and Al Caucci, and including countless magazine articles. He has had aquarium tanks in his basement and has stayed up all night photographing the emerging stages of all mayflies/ stoneflies/ caddis as long as I have known him… don't miss this one! This Saturday on Vintage Classic Radio's "Saturday Matinee," listeners are in for a treat with a diverse lineup of classic radio shows. The broadcast begins with "Our Miss Brooks" featuring the episode "Telegram for Mrs. Davis," which originally aired on July 10th, 1949. In this episode, the ever-resourceful English teacher Connie Brooks, portrayed by Eve Arden, finds herself embroiled in a comedic mix-up over a telegram intended for Mrs. Davis. The confusion leads to a series of humorous events that showcase Miss Brooks' wit and charm. The cast also includes Gale Gordon as Principal Osgood Conklin, Richard Crenna as student Walter Denton, Jane Morgan as the scatterbrained Mrs. Davis, and Jeff Chandler as the dashing Mr. Boynton. Following this comedic gem, the "Academy Award" radio series captivates with "Brief Encounter," an adaptation of the poignant film, originally broadcasted on November 20th, 1946. This episode delves into the story of two strangers who meet in a train station and the deep, albeit doomed, connection they form. The emotionally charged narrative is brought to life by the outstanding performances of its cast, making it a memorable listening experience. The evening continues to enchant with the "The Nat King Cole Trio" musical radio show from February 1st, 1947. This episode features the smooth, velvety voice of Nat King Cole accompanied by Oscar Moore on guitar and Johnny Miller on double bass, delivering a setlist of jazz standards and captivating melodies. The trio's impeccable chemistry and musicianship offer a soulful journey through some of the era's most beloved tunes. Concluding the matinee is "The Colgate Theater of Romance" with the episode "Stage Door," aired on July 18th, 1944. This dramatic presentation takes listeners behind the scenes of a New York theater boarding house, exploring the ambitions, dreams, and realities of the aspiring actresses living there. With a cast including Judith Evelyn, June Havoc, and Angela Lansbury, the episode beautifully captures the hopes and hardships of the theatrical world, making it a fitting finale to the day's programming. We're at Timpanogos Golf Club on the live show on ESPN 700 to celebrate the Primo Provo Open, Johnny Miller's Bobby Jones Award and the US Open with Brett Watson, Matty Gay, Michael Bailey and Chris Briscoe.
Iconic golf legend Johnny Miller received the Bobby Jones Award, the highest honor given by the United States Golf Association, on the 50th anniversary of his storied 1973 US Open win. With an assist from USGA Media, we bring you his presser in its entirety.
When Johnny Miller shot his famous 63 in the final round at Oakmont in 1973, it instantly became one of the most staggering achievements in the history of major championship golf. For the USGA, it was also something else: an insult. Oakmont was supposed to be one of the toughest courses in the world, and the U.S. Open was supposed to be the toughest test in professional golf. What Miller did undermined that identity, and when the Open came to Winged Foot one year later, the one certainty was that it wouldn't happen again. From the tournament committee to the club members, the mission was to return the U.S. Open to its place of prominence by all means necessary. The course the players encountered that summer was a monster, and they were its victims. What happened next can only be described as carnage; this week on Local Knowledge, we look at why it happened, and what it tells us about America's national open and the people who run it.
