This episode starts with a lengthy Senior PGA Championship recap after PJ's journey down the eastern seaboard to Congressional Country Club. PJ shares his observations from the ground, touching on back-to-back major champion Angel Cabrera's aptly-named equipment, Richard Bland's insistence on hitting driver all over the place, and some substantiated rumors about new podcast folk hero Don Rea Jr. Andy and Brendan then recap the Charles Schwab Challenge where Ben Griffin won his second PGA Tour event of the season. They debate Griffin's early case for inclusion on this year's American Ryder Cup team and Brendan shares a touching moment from Griffin's post-round presser on Sunday. In news, Rory McIlroy is skipping this week's Memorial Tournament, Will Zalatoris undergoes back surgery, and Lucas Glover presents a conspiracy about driver testing on the PGA Tour.

In Part 2 of this week's Next on the Tee, I'm joined by Champions Tour and European Legends Tour standout Clark Dennis. Over the past few years, I've really enjoyed getting to know Clark, including spending time with him at last year's Mitsubishi Electric Classic here in Atlanta. Clark has had an impressive career with 9 professional victories so far, including five recent wins on the Legends Tour including back-to-back titles at the Italian Open in 2017 and 2018 and last June's victory at Costa Navarino. We revisit his memorable T6 finish at the 1994 U.S. Open at Oakmont—a brutally hot week in Pittsburgh that played to his advantage as a native Texan. Clark also shares the incredible story of qualifying for both the 2023 U.S. Open and Senior U.S. Open on back-to-back days, earning medalist honors in each. With the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional on the horizon, we talk about his preparation for that event, and he reflects proudly on his son Will, who's now caddying for rising PGA Tour star Sam Stevens, currently ranked inside the Top 100. It's a fantastic conversation filled with great stories and insight from one of the game's most seasoned pros.

They first debate what a fair over-under is for Scottie Scheffler's career major wins and emphasize how hard it is to sustain an elite level of play for ten years. On the PGA Tour, Scottie will tee it up again in Dallas for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Joining him there are Corey Pavin, Olin Browne, and David Frost, leading Brendan to question whether these olds will be competitive at Colonial. After making some fire picks for the week, this episode turns into a full-on preview of the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional. In this episode of Next on the Tee, we're joined by 2019 Charles Schwab Cup Champion Scott McCarron, as he gears up for the new season. Scott shares insights into his current health and the state of his game as he prepares for another competitive year. We also discuss the accessibility and visibility challenges the Champions Tour faces, despite the exceptional talent and fan engagement from its players. We explore why the PGA Tour seems to treat the Champions Tour as an afterthought and how that might change when Tiger Woods turns 50 and potentially joins the field. Scott reflects on his leadership role within the Tour, offering his perspective on the upcoming changes to the PGA Tour in 2026, including the reduction of full-time Tour cards and the impact of LIV Golf's emergence has had on player earnings. We then take a deep dive into Scott's impressive record at the Senior PGA Championship, a tournament where he's consistently performed well, and discuss his chances at Congressional Country Club this year. He also reflects on his past successes in Atlanta, where he has multiple victories at TPC Sugarloaf, and how playing on a course with such great memories impacts his confidence. In a fun hypothetical, Scott answers the question: if he could turn back time, regain peak health, and take one more shot at a title—where would it be? Finally, we switch gears to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the 1980 Miracle on Ice, one of the greatest moments in sports history. Scott shares his thoughts on whether it stands as the greatest sporting event of his lifetime or if another moment holds that top spot. When I asked why, isn't it all in the family, he said you'll have to ask Jay Monahan that question.

On this episode my guests are 2019 Champions Tour Player of the Year Scott McCarron, MLB Legend Fred Lynn, Champions Tour Pro Paul Stankowski, Srixon/Cleveland Golf VP of Sales Eddie Drye, and 2014 Georgia PGA Teacher of the Year Kevin Roman. Scott McCarron and I talk about his recent performance at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic and we look ahead to the back-to-back majors they have coming up at the Regions Tradition and the Senior PGA Championship. I asked him about the golf ball distance issue since his average driving distance hasn't changed much at age 58 since his days playing on the PGA Tour. We also talked about the potential of Tiger playing on the Champions Tour. He said based on conversations he's had, it looks like Tiger will play several tournaments a year but he goes on to say that their "supposed leader" PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, didn't like it when the Champions Tour ratings beat the PGA Tour's the week Phil played his first Champions Tour event. When I asked why, isn't it all in the family, he said you'll have to ask Jay Monahan that question. Fred Lynn updates us on the progress of his golf game following double partial knee replacement surgery. We hear stories about him and his teammate Jim Rice playing golf together and being in awe of Rice bombing it off the tee. You'll also hear stories about Fred's experiences playing Pebble Beach, trying to keep it together playing in Frank Sinatra's event with Buddy Hackett, his memories of facing Gaylord Perry, and being a part of PBS's series Iconic America about Fenway Park. Paul Stankowski is one of my favorite people on the planet. I had the privilege of catching up with Paul at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic and again as he prepares for the Regions Tradition. We go back to 1996 when he became the first player to win in back-to-back weeks on the Nike Tour and then on the PGA Tour at the Bell South Classic. We get inside what it was like for him in an 8-day span to go from being a first-time winner on the Nike Tour to being the 6th alternate for the Bell South Classic, getting into that tournament, winning it, and the next day driving up Magnolia Lane. Eddie Drye and Kevin Roman share equipment and playing lessons that will help us hit straighter drives, recover from the rough, and knock down more flags with our wedges.

Stroman needed 37 pitches to get through the first, allowing four singles and two runs to the first five batters. But he cruised after that, retiring 14 of his final 16 batters with two walks. He struck out eight. Courtney Vandersloot had 14 points, six rebounds and seven assists for Chicago (4-2). Kahleah Copper and Allie Quigley each scored 12 and Dana Evans had 10 points. NFL – Changes under new coach Matt Eberflus hit Bears defense Personnel, position change and even weight loss have been some of the changes to affect the Chicago Bears defense since the start of spring work in organized team activities during coach Matt Eberflus’ first season. The switch to a 4-3 defense from a 3-4 meant some players switched positions, such as linebacker Roquan Smith. New players such as linebacker Nicholas Morrow, rookie cornerback Kyler Gordon and rookie safety Jaquan Brisker are getting extensive looks with the first team. All the while, the Bears are without veteran defensive ends Robert Quinn and Al-Quadin Muhammad, who have opted not to participate in voluntary offseason work. NFL – NFL revamps Rooney Rule to include quarterbacks coaches The NFL has expanded the Rooney Rule again, this time to include quarterbacks coaches in a further effort to diversify the coaching ranks. The change was announced Tuesday at the owners meeting in Atlanta by Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer. The oft-criticized Rooney Rule, adopted in 2003 to enhance opportunities for minorities to gain head coaching jobs and enhanced several times to include front office positions, now will requires one minority or female candidate from another team to be interviewed for quarterbacks coach. Previously, the rule covered head coach, general manager and all coordinator jobs. Tennis – French Open – Medvedev wins opening match Daniil Medvedev got his French Open off to a winning start — never a sure thing for the second-seeded Russian. The U.S. Open champion beat Facundo Bagnis of Argentina 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.  Medvedev was a quarterfinalist at Roland Garros last year after four straight losses in the first round. The Russian earned his first victory since undergoing hernia surgery nearly two months ago. He had lost his opening-round match at the Geneva Open last week on his return. Medvedev reached the final at the Australian Open this year, losing to Rafael Nadal in five sets.
