If you're interested in astrology, PGA cleanup, and the most comprehensive preview of the Senior PGA Championship, this is the episode for you! Still basking in the afterglow of Scottie's win at the PGA, Andy and Brendan are in high spirits for this Wednesday episode. They first debate what a fair over-under is for Scottie Scheffler's career major wins and emphasize how hard it is to sustain an elite level of play for ten years. The two then do some more PGA wrap up and briefly look ahead to Oakmont and Royal Portrush, where they expect Jon Rahm to be a contender. On the PGA Tour, Scottie will tee it up again in Dallas for the Charles Schwab Challenge. Joining him there are Corey Pavin, Olin Browne, and David Frost, leading Brendan to question whether these olds will be competitive at Colonial. After making some fire picks for the week, this episode turns into a full-on preview of the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional. Brendan and PJ go through the field and discuss notables, including Andy's favorite, Lee Westwood! There are odds out there for this event, so picks are made for this major championship as well. In news, Detroit's TGL team will begin play in 2027 and some history was made at the USGA Fourball.

As debates about pace of play abound on the world's professional tours, we get both sides of the argument from major champions Lucas Glover and Collin Morikawa about the 'aimpoint' green reading method. Is aimpoint an innovative, helpful way to plot out a putt? Or has it become a drag on pace of play that's goes against the etiquette of the game? Our crew of Damon Hack and Ryan Lavner weigh both sides of the issue. Corey Pavin might have earned his 15 PGA TOUR victories before aimpoint became prevalent on the circuit, but that doesn't mean he can't still roll 'em in! The 2-time winner of this week's Genesis Invitational stops by to talk about one of his favorite TOUR stops before he tees it up at the Chubb Classic on the PGA TOUR Champions. Due to the Palisades Fire earlier this year, the Genesis' was moved from it's regular home of Riviera Country Club to the South Course at Torrey Pines -- the same place where Andrew Novak nearly won the Farmer's Insurance Open several weeks ago. Novak stops by to discuss his near win, and how he feels about taking another crack at Torrey Pines for his first-ever TOUR win. Yeahlimi Noh doesn't have to wonder when her first win on the LPGA Tour will come! She comes on the show to discuss her maiden win last week at the Cognizant Founder's Cup. It's a stuffed November Friday episode for Brendan and Andy, who is dreading the Bears playing in national primetime yet again. They meander from that into the lengthy Wired article on the tech and plans for TGL, which provided some of the most substantive details to date about what this is and what it might look like. This leads to a few different rants on the current silly season splash of money and the amount of oxygen it's currently taking up alongside the Tour's looming decision to get in bed with Private Equity or the Saudis. Brendan then brings back Flashback Friday to talk a bit about the Nedbank Challenge, this week's Euro Tour event, and Corey Pavin's 1995 win there as it tried to emerge from a tainted origin story. They close with SGS Golf Advice on strollers on the golf course and turning in a cheating partner that you have a close relationship with outside of golf.

David Ogrin shares stories from his T13 finish at the 1983 US Open at Oakmont and what it's like putting on those greens. Hello and welcome once again to Flaghunters ! AND, a very Happy New Year ! This was a great conversation with my friend John Grund. I consider John to be one of the best short game and mind-set coaches in the World !    "Grundy" grew up in San Marino California and played his college golf at UCLA with the likes of Steve Pate and Corey Pavin. He learned from the wedge master Paul Runyan himself when Mr. Runyan had retired to Annandale C.C. in Pasadena, CA. When it comes to getting proficient with the wedges, Grundy is the man to go to.    John and I talk about mind-set, staying in the moment, being observant of what your tendencies are and practicing things that matter to get the ball in the hole. John is also a world-class putter and has simple ideas to get us to putt our best.    Grundy is a great storyteller and I'm sure you with get a ton out of this conversation as I did.                                                                                                   Jesse

We begin this Wednesday episode with an update from our social distancing lives before proceeding to the major wave of upcoming schedule cancellations and changes. We discuss the PGA’s postponement, the report of a Ryder Cup move to 2021, and the likelihood of a U.S. Open happening on time. We ponder who is taking the biggest hit in all of this and the many concessions the PGA Tour has and will have to make. Some new schedule proposals and ideas based on the many rumors and reports are discussed, from a new Masters date to a new PGA date and why it might then make sense for the Ryder Cup to bail on 2020. Some Bears and Browns free agency talk sneaks its way in as well. On the occasion of Bobby Jones’ birthday, we present one listener’s argument for why he is the one true GOAT. Then, in our second installment of SGS Spotlight, Corey Pavin’s career is put under consideration. We discuss his slap hitter ways, media constantly talking about his height, the ‘95 U.S. Open win in brutal conditions, and a hilarious Rick Reilly description of Pavin and that win. On the Ryder Cup disasters of 2010, we hit on the rain suit malfunction, Lisa Pavin as “The Captainess,” a blow-up fight with Jim Gray, and the conspiracy theory that Pavin stacked his captain’s picks with born-again Christians as a convert himself. We contemplate his legacy and wonder whether he is “Boomer Rickie” and should be left out of our hypothetical Hall of Fame.

Played on the beautiful Hualalai Golf Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka’upulehu, the Pro-Am is on Tuesday January 16 and Wednesday January 17 Thursday, Friday, and Saturday January 18-19-20 is the 54 hole stroke play event broadcast on NBC Golf Channel. Advance tickets are available at pgatour.com/mec $20 One Day Pass / $40 Tournament Pass (purchase on website) or at the Gate tournament week for $25 Tournament Day and $ 45 Tournament Week Pass . I think one of the best aspects of this Mitsubishi Electric Championship is monies raised for our local charities. The Rotary Club of Kona organizes the 300+ volunteers with Kris Hazard and Larry Webb continuing as volunteer co-chairs and in return the tournament donates to the Rotary Club of Kona Community Foundation. Big Island Junior Golf and the Daniel R Sayre Foundation are also recipients. 2018 Eligible Player Field: Michael Allen, Stephen Ames, Woody Austin, Paul Broadhurst, Fred Couples, John Daly, Marco Dawson, Joe Durant, Carlos Franco, David Frost, Doug Garwood, Paul Goydos, Jay Haas, Kohki Idoki, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Brandt Jobe, Jerry Kelly, Bernhard Langer, Tom Lehman, Jeff Maggert, Scott McCarron, Rocco Mediate, Colin Montgomerie, Jesper Parnevik, Tom Pernice,Jr., Kenny Perry, Gene Sauers, Vijay Singh, Esteban Toledo, Kirk Triplett, Duffy Waldorf, Mark Wiebe Sponsor Exemptions: Olin Browne, Mark Calcavecchia, Fred Funk, Peter Jacobsen, Corey Pavin, Loren Roberts, Jeff Sluman, David Toms Hall of Fame Eligible: Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Sandy Lyle, Larry Nelson, Mark O’Meara, Jose Maria Olazabal, Tom Watson, Ian Woosnam I think it is significant that Greg McLaughlin was involved with many of the current PGA TOUR Champions players as they were coming up and making strides on the PGA TOUR. Before he joined the PGA TOUR as Senior VP of PGA TOUR Championship Management, Greg was Tournament Director of the PGA Northern Trust Open (formerly Nissan Open), Honda classic, BMW Championship and Director of the Tiger Woods Foundation for 14 years. At the Nissan Open in 1992 at Rivera Country Club in LA Greg was responsible for providing Tiger Woods with his first exemption to compete in a PGA TOUR. Fred Couples won the Nissan Open that year. I was at that 1992 Nissan Open and it was the first time I met Greg McLaughlin and it was the first time I ever saw Tiger Woods. He was around 16 years old. I was just venturing to other venues to cover golf and I'll always remember how helpful and friendly Greg was to me when I got press credentials for the Nissan Open over several years. I appreciate having worked with and been very involved with the PGA TOUR Champions and Kelly Fliear, Tournament Manager for 22 years now. It's been fun to weave so many relationships in the world of golf in my hometown Detroit and Hawaii into my life. For instance Brian Goin. Brian had been Tournament Director of the Ford Seniors in Detroit for many years and then as Director of PGA Tour Championship Management we worked together on the Mitsubishic Electric Championship at Hualalai. We have mutual friends in the Detroit Media and handful of my friends from Detroiters have for years played in the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai Pro-AM and we have a few spots open for this year. Greg and I mention Warwick Hills in Grand Blanc, Michigan being the site in September 2018 for the PGA TOUR Champions Ally Challenge. Warwick Hills hosted the Buick Open for 45 years through 2009. As a junior golfer aspiring to play professional golf in the 1960's, attending the Buick Open was very special.
