Does your favorite sci-fi show have an episode where spectral entities or unseen forces haunt and taunt the main characters? For Stella Cheeks, it's the Star Trek TOS episode "The Tholian Web," and for Erin Cline, it's the X-Files episode "How The Ghosts Stole Christmas." Join Stella and Erin for tales of innerspace specters, aspirational apparitions, and the contentious couples they come across! Also, who to look to for Christmas wrapping advice from and what goes good with scotch. ooOOoOOOOO!!!! --- About the podcast: Erin Cline and Stella Cheeks have been friends for over a decade but have never seen each other's favorite TV show. Seeking to rectify that grievous error (seriously, they used to live together), X-Treks was born! Each week the duo choose one episode from Star Trek: The Original Series and one episode from The X-Files that fits a previously chosen cinematic theme, watch them together, and share their feelings! OOOoooOOoo a spooky film! 'Vanishing on 7th Street' is a 2010 thriller directed by Brad Anderson. The film begins with a power outage in Detriot. When the lights come back on only moments later, everyone has disappeared leaving only their clothes behind them. This super scary power outage has left only four survivors – John Leguizamo, Thandie Newton, Jacob Latimore and Anakin Skywalker aka. Hayden Christensen, who spends the first half of the movie screaming at a 13 yr old boy. It become apparent that these four have survived because they all have a light of some kind, like a flash light or a glow stick. Together they try and battle the darkness with their glowsticks and their panic. The Legz plays Paul - a projectionist in a Detroit theatre with a flashlight on his head who gets a concussion and is momentarily taken by the darkness but then his head flashlight works again and the darkness leaves him alone. OOOOOooooo she’s back, she’s alive, she’s here! And she’s (okay let’s change grammatical tense here: I’m) doing a lap around my neighborhood with newfound coffee, no longer sick in bed. But that’s off topic. You know that feeling when you’re totally inspired by something (like a friend, someone on social media, an idea, anything really) and because of this thing or person, you’re filled with motivation and energy to change your life? But then, suddenly, that inspiration turns on you—and instead of feeling motivated and inspired, you now feel like garbage, ashamed you haven’t accomplished anything close to that yet, and are overwhelmed by all the ways you’ll never be enough? Welcome to being a human. In this voicemail, I’m calling to talk about how my inspiration turned on me this morning—and why something I learned recently about the human brain helped to snap me out of it. We’ll talk about how “inspiration” is actually kinetic energy, why the chemicals that freak us the hell out are the same ones that fill us with excitement (just with a different mental “label”), and how to combat the urge to beat yourself up when your inspiration tries to sour on you. We’ll also talk about what do if you’re already “sour”—aka frustrated, fed up, or discontent with something in your life—and how to use that frustrated energy as powerful momentum to make good stuff happen. Also: little kids on razor scooters, extreme construction noise, and incessant coffee slurping. LOVE YOU. So…Call me when you get this? No really, call me! 510) 394-2104. Leave a voicemail with your love notes, feedback, and questions for me to research, and I’ll be sure to call you back. If you liked this episode, please subscribe, or rate (with all the stars), or leave a mushy review wherever you listen to podcasts – so I can “call” more humans with my trademarked brand of aggressive kindness. Oooooooooo weeeeee! The ladies of Bitch Talk had the chance to see Blindspotting a couple of months ago, and the minute it was over Erin and Ange knew they had to talk with Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal immediately. We had a great conversation with the East Bay natives and we truly hope this film soars at the box office. Sorry To Bother You and Blindspotting both honor the love, complexity, and complete vibe of an Oakland that is quickly turning into an unrecognizable place to all of these homegrown filmmakers. Head out to the movies this weekend and support Blindspotting´s opening weekend. It´s a big deal. Visit our website! www.bitchtalkpodcast.com Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter...
Our journey has finally taken us down the Yellow Brick Road as in this episode of the podcast we are breaking down 1939's "The Wizard Of Oz'. As well as the breakdown, we also have a another crack at a movie quiz and find out the results of last weeks movie draft on 'Movies that are 90 minutes or less' (As well as do this weeks draft on 'Best movies with a female villain'). We then talk about what else we've seen during the week, including the recent action packed comedy sequel 'Deadpool 2'. So come on in and join our journey!
