Director Nabil Elderkin shoots music videos and films governed by vision, collaboration and diversity. While thematic similarities connect the dots between his projects, each video is different and a product of the stellar combination of the right artist, the right lighting, and maybe most importantly - the right feel. Growing up in a multi-cultural sphere, dictated by several international moves, led to an open-mindedness and an adaptability which did not hurt his transition into film. Surfing was the context which facilitated his portal in, and although he spent more time on the beach than in the water, the education he received, through direct exposure shooting his friends, was invaluable. His photography interest and experience developed further when he settled in Chicago, and came into Kanye West's orbit. Soon after, he started shooting music videos for a dossier for artists which continues to expand, and includes The Black Eyed Peas, Common, Seal, Bruno Mars, Foals, J. Cole, Travis Scott, Dua Lipa and Kendrick Lamar. For his work on Swim Good and Mercy, which feature Frank Ocean and Kanye West, respectively, Nabil received 3 VMA nominations, including Best Direction in a Video and Best Hip Hop Video for the latter. Among his feature films are the Ugandan breakdancing documentary, Bouncing Cats, and the gut-wrenching exploration of trauma - Gully - which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 and stars Charlie Plummer, Amber Heard, Jacob Latimore, Terrence Howard and John Corbett. In our conversation, we discussed the kernels of his film beginnings; working with actors like Willem Dafoe and Don Cheadle; collaborating with friends like John Legend; upcoming music video and narrative concepts he is developing; and a memorable encounter with Snoop Dogg.Opening Credits: HoliznaPATREON - Green Again ( LoFi) I CC BY-NC-ND 4.0; Anitek - Gnats I CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 US. Five years ago, we here at Black Girl Film Club dropped our first episode on a Black Classic, House Party (1990) and wondered when we'd get another great high school party film. This February, we've come full circle with House Party (2023), directed by Calmatic and starring Tosin Cole, Jacob Latimore, Karen Obilom, Scott Mescudi, and Lebron James. Does this latest installment (and possibly a cover for a money laundering scheme) in the House Party franchise live up to its predecessor? Hard spoiler alert: NO! House Party is a 2023 American comedy film directed by Calmatic (in his feature directorial debut) from a screenplay by Jamal Olori and Stephen Glover, serving as a reboot and remake of the 1990 film of the same name. The film stars Tosin Cole, Jacob Latimore, Karen Obilom, D.C. Young Fly, and Scott Mescudi, and follows two young aspiring club promoters working as house cleaners who throw a party at their latest job site: LeBron James' mansion. It is produced by New Line Cinema and James and Maverick Carter's SpringHill Company. House Party was released in the United States on January 13, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures. Kevin and Damon are two best friends who work as house cleaners and aspiring club promoters; Kevin also aspires to make music and get a steady income to support himself and his young daughter Destiny. The two of them are dropped from a promotion gig by Kyle and his gang (Guile and Larry) due to Damon having illicit involvement with Guile's cousin. While the two of them are working at a mansion, Kevin is informed by his childhood friend and current supervisor Venus that he and Damon will be fired due to cameras catching them goofing off on the job. Damon finds out that the mansion they are cleaning belongs to LeBron James, who is in India on a two-week meditation retreat, and proposes that he and Kevin host a party there for LeBron's celebrity contacts. Kevin, now desperate for money due to him knowing he's fired and not starting his new IT job for another 2 months hesitantly joins in on the plan. Kevin asks Venus to supply him and Damon with the keys to the mansion, and she very reluctantly agrees. Leatherface is back in what is apparently the ninth installment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. This "requel" does away with all the sequels and brings back the legacy characters of Leatherface, Sally Hardesty (the lone survivor from the first one), and the voice of John Larroquette as the narrator. The film didn't feel like Texas and was in fact shot in Bulgaria. While certainly grisly, we'll let you know how it holds up to the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). The 83-minute Netflix film stars Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Mark Burnham, Moe Dunford, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Olwen Fouere, Jacob Latimore, and Alice Krige.

My next guest is one of the true young rising stars in Hollywood, and I am a big fan of his talents. He is an accomplished singer, dancer, and actor. He first came on my radar when he starred in the movie Sleight. But that was one of many movies he has been seen, such as in COLLATERAL BEAUTY, D.E.T.R.O.I.T., K.R.Y.S.T.A.L., CANDY JAR, and box office hits include RIDE ALONG and THE MAZE RUNNER. Now you can see him every Sunday night starring in season 3 of Showtime's original series The Chi, where he plays the character Emmett Washington. This season is filled with many new stars. Kandi Burruss will play Roselyn Perry, the estranged wife of Douda (guest star Curtiss Cook), back at his side to influence his political agenda and to help herself. Luke James will play Victor "Trig" Taylor, Jake's (Michael V. Epps) estranged older brother who wants to reunite his fractured family but takes an unconventional approach. La La Anthony will play Dominique "Dom" Morris, a savvy businesswoman with dreams of more lucrative opportunities. Lil Rel Howery will play Zeke Remnick, the owner of Sonny's building, who cares less about the community than the bottom line. He is on the show to discuss being Black in America, his acting career and Showtime Network's “The Chi” television series. Aleah Denae and Quan McCullough have an informal Q&A and discussion surrounding his football, entrepreneurial and philanthropic successes. They dive into how black men are often limited to success in sports, due to the lack of representation in other careers/settings, and often times feeling like the only way to “make it out” is through the game. The “My Take On Music” Segment features reviews on drops from Gunna, Teyana Taylor, Dej Loaf and Jacob Latimore.
I'd like want to thank D.O. aka Duane Gibson and his team for another successful Northern Power Summit. From the educational panels and networking opportunities, there was a lot of informational gems, jewels, MAJOR KEYS (DJ Khaled voice). I moderated the Next Level panel featuring speakers Chris “Deep” Henderson and David “Click” Cox. Seemingly since the beginning of time, the hit single has been elusive, yet a huge source of pride for artists. As the industry has moved from radio spins to YouTube views to Instagram “likes”, what makes a hit these days? This panel will discuss how to determine success and how artists can find it in today's music economy.Panellists biography Christopher “Deep” Henderson is a multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning songwriter and music producer whose hits include Jamie Foxx & T-Pain's “Blame It” along with a host of others from artists like 50cent with G-Unit, Trey Songz, Mario, Dru Hill, Jacob Latimore and others.
