It's amazing the things that we will normalize in life - both personally and professionally.Sometimes we do it because we feel helpless and hopeless and we think people or things won't change… we've maybe started to believe that no matter what we do, it's always going to stay the same. However, I am optimistic and see things a little differently for the world. I believe in the power of change. I believe in our capacity as people, especially when we come together communally - and not just as the one hero on the journey to save the whole world.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about not believing the world when it tells you that change is impossible or that you're all alone in thinking that change is not only possible, but necessary. When enough people decide that they're no longer willing to normalize the bullshi*t that goes on, then that's where the journey to lasting change begins! As long as people are here, paying attention, believing in possibility, shifting perspectives and feeling purposeful - then people can choose to think in a new way, do something different, be somehow better, and the world can change. But first, we have to stop normalizing the bullshit… are you ready?KK's Takeaways: • Online Summit BTS (10:02)• Being Uninvited (20:02)• Client Perspective (27:18)• Making Extraordinary Ordinary (31:06)• Intimate Group Of 12 (40:41)• I Believe In The Power Of Change (41:43)Karen Kenney is known for her dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and her no BS approach to Spirituality. In the journey of personal, spiritual and even business growth, we can often find ourselves in what I like to refer to as “the hallway.” It's that place of uncertainty, where we're not quite sure what to do, what's coming next or which door we should open because of the unknowns beyond. How we perceive the hallway greatly influences our experience when we're in it. We can choose to be overwhelmed, anxious, and impatient, desperately searching for answers in a panicked state. Or (and I'm not saying this option is always easy) we can take the approach of relinquishing our fight for control and instead lean into patience, surrender, curiosity and trust. Trusting ourselves, the process, and the guidance that comes from within… thanks to our intuition, gut instinct, inner teacher or our Spiritual Team who I say, “is always on the job.”Even in the midst of uncertainty, we have the power to connect with our inner wisdom, with source energy, and with our Spiritual Team, relying on tools like breathwork, pattern interrupts, meditation, prayer, and others to anchor ourselves and find peace, even in the unknown.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about embracing the mystery when you find yourself in the hallway, so you can be free to dream about what might be possible. If you're curious to explore more about the hallway and discover how you can navigate uncertainty, embrace the unknown, and tap into your inner wisdom; join me for this week's episode and together let's dive into the magical mystery when it comes to being in the in between.KK's Takeaway:Paint The Hallway (5:11)Spiritual Companionship (10:05)Creative Time Pause (17:39)To Be Uncomfortable (22:58)Keep Your Seat (28:02)Karen Kenney is known for her dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and her no bullsh*t approach to Spirituality. While freedom of speech is essential, we must also take responsibility for our words. There are consequences for what we say, even if we're not always aware of them.Sometimes, the repercussions of our communication style or the words we choose to speak or write may not be immediately evident. It could be minutes, months or even years later when someone decides to leave the relationship or unfollow, unsubscribe, or disconnect from us without a public announcement or big confrontation. They might choose to silently “moonwalk themselves out of the room” or relationship, leaving us unaware of the impact our words had on them and without a way to correct our mistakes or heal the misunderstanding. In this episode of the Karen Kenney Show, I want to explore the importance of being mindful of our communication and the impact or consequences our words can carry. In today's world, where everyone seems to have a platform and access to one another, I believe it's worth our time to reflect on the way we choose to express ourselves and how our words have the power to build up or tear down, to be kind or cruel, to be intentional or clumsy.Join me as we discuss the sometimes hidden effects of what comes out of our mouths and learn how we can create a more positive and impactful communication style both personally and professionally.KK's Takeaways:Watch Your Mouth Like A Hawk (2:52)Lack Of Empathy & Awareness (7:55)People Love To Be Front + Center On Social (14:13)Be Mindful (21:35)Dealing With Stupid People (27:25)Forgiveness (34:36)Powerful Words (39:49)Karen Kenney is known for her dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and her no BS approach to Spirituality. Whenever there's a decision to be made or something really needs my attention, like many of my clients I often catch myself saying, "I just need to figure it out." As a result, I ended up spending a lot of time in my head trying to use my intellect and reasoning to come up with a solution - when I could be slowing down, getting quiet and listening to my intuition.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're looking at the intelligence that goes beyond just our brain. Whether we call this “inner knowing” that comes from within - Spirit, inner teacher, intuition, gut instinct, divine intelligence, or spiritual team, there's so much wisdom to be found if we can just slow down enough to feel our way through a situation. It is the reason why over the years I've learned to hit the pause button and check in with my body and it's “three brains' — the mind, heart, and belly —- for navigating life's challenges. So if you find yourself caught up in the stress and pressure of needing to “figure it all out”, I encourage you to take a moment to sit still, get quiet, go within, take a few deep breaths in and nice long exhales out, connect with your intuition, and trust your “inner smarty-pants” to show you the way. If you follow me at all online, you've probably seen me share some pictures of the strength training journey I've been on. Here's the thing… Life can be hard sometimes. Now don't get me wrong, life can also be wonderful and full of all magic and miracles and all kinds of incredible things like babies laughing, puppies frolicking, or getting to be on the beach. Yes, there's a lot to show gratitude for… and let's just be real, life can just sometimes be a straight up totally brutal, knock you on your ass kind of journey. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how life can be difficult… and even those hard moments are not something we want to skip over. The suffering and the grief comes with the territory and is part of the journey of the human experience. It's in those rough patches that we might want to cut ourselves some slack — give ourselves the room and space to grieve, get upset and move through the range of emotions that may come up so that we can heal. What we don't need‌ when we're working stuff through or out is our own contempt or critiquing. Instead, we need to provide some breathing room, and a little bit of compassionate space for us to simply catch our breath and calm our nervous systems, so we can approach things with calm and curiosity instead of judgment. From my heart to yours, please be more gentle with yourself - extend some grace and tenderness to yourself because as we all know the world could use more of that.KK's Takeaways:Watch Your Mind & Mouth (2:35)Cut Yourself Some Slack (8:39)Slow Down Enough To Notice (13:30)Devil's Advocate vs Inner Teacher (17:45)Karen Kenney is known for her dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and her no BS approach to Spirituality. Sometimes we'll be clumsy and slip up with our words or actions, and we won't always get it right. Depending on what has happened to us along the way, making mistakes can make us feel like not only did we do something wrong, but that WE ourselves are wrong. Like we screwed up and are now somehow worth less because of it.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about shifting our perspective on making mistakes, embracing them and learning from them what we can do better the next time around. We all make mistakes and in my opinion each one can be a valuable lesson. They can be a way for us to learn what works for us, what it is we really like or don't like, where we have strengths and weaknesses, where we need to draw the line and what boundaries we aren't willing to have crossed. The key is to recognize the pattern of making the same one again and to stop ourselves from running in this loop or casting shame.Mistakes are part of the human experience – and our humanity is part of what makes us beautiful and brilliant. So I say, go live, be yourself and make mistakes, and then learn from them shame free… embrace the lessons they might bring and keep moving forward with curiosity and the new insights and knowledge you've gained!KK's Takeaways:Making Little Mistakes (3:45)Afraid To Make Mistakes (9:07)Learning In Our Younger Years (11:52)Proof The World Wasn't Safe (18:18)Internal Effects External (21:43)Experience Is Important (30:38)What Did You Learn? We may not even realize it, but we're always marketing our ideas and opinions. How we do that can vary drastically, depending on the situation and or what we've been taught.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're taking a closer look at the difference between “promising” people an outcome, versus sharing the powerful possibilities a client could experience in their work with us. The thing we don't want to forget is that part of the outcome (what people get out of it) - depends on their participation, proactiveness and priority (what people put into it.)This is why I prefer to dwell more in the realm of what is possible, to tell the truth about what becomes possible when we're willing to do the work, put in the effort and stay consistent and committed!KK's Takeaways:Transformation Requires Change (8:47)How Do You Know? “Evolved Masshole” is a term I coined to describe the process of moving away from shame or guilt about our younger selves and moving towards love and understanding as we adapt, transform, grow and change over time! Today on the Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about releasing the shame we sometimes carry around the actions, behaviors and choices from our younger years. Those earlier versions of ourselves that were just doing the best they knew how to find a safe place in the world. So no matter where we're at in our journey, let's embrace and celebrate those parts of ourselves without judgment or shame, and instead forgive where needed and embrace our growth and journey with humor and love. From my “Evolved Masshole” heart - to whatever kind of heart you're carrying around these days - just know that I appreciate you, I see you and I celebrate those parts of you, even the ones that you might still have a little awkwardness about — and together let's keep moving forward into the evolvement of our truest nature; Love. What I see talked about a lot in the world, and especially in the personal development, coaching, transformational and “spiritual spaces”, is the learning process. People want to know how we learn to do things like; create new habits and build new neural networks in our brains. They want and even ask for help learning how to be the best version of themselves, and how to do X, Y, and Z. But the part a lot of people skip, or that doesn't get a lot of attention, is that at first there has to be an unlearning process.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about what it takes to unlearn our old ways of being before we can step into the new ones. It's through my own personal life experience that I discovered, if I try to be a bull in a china shop and come into a situation with just my sheer willpower to force change or overthrow my long-standing habits - the ones that have been in place forever - without trying to undo first… I am going to run into some resistance and eventually maybe even hit a brick wall.WHAM!! If you're a loyal listener, you may remember, a few months back, I was doing a podcast episode where I dropped a line mentioning I was doing a little “shameless plug” about something I was offering - complete with my own silly sound effects. My podcast person, Aaron, thought it was hilarious and she made a funny clip of it for me. This moment caught on camera got me thinking about something I believe is wicked important about self-promotion, shame and shining your light. So this episode is a little love letter from me to all the people who are out there trying to create things in the world, who have big or small dreams and who are doing something new or scary or trying something else in their business, once again. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how we don't need to be ashamed about sharing our excitement with the world about the stuff we're working on, what kind of magic we're creating or what kind of programs we're offering in our business. We also dive into how some people in the world, unfortunately, including the ones closest to us, have a way of just sh*tting on our dreams and trying to shut them down. Of course they don't always do it on purpose, but here's the thing… countless dreams have been stopped in their tracks because of family members, friends or whoever is trying to make you believe it's not cool to get “too excited” about what we're up to.Well, guess what? I'm not interested in being cool. Ha! I'm just interested in being myself and so I want to touch back on the concept of the shameless plug. I mean why should there be any shame at all, around sharing what we've been up to or dreaming about? Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how beneficial it can be to bring in another perspective. Enlisting the assistance of someone who has experience and expertise will allow you to, as I like to say, “borrow their brain” and explore different methods for solving a problem, seeing yourself in a new light or examining a situation from another angle. Mike Tyson had a wicked funny quote about social media, that alluded to people getting a little too mouthy on the platforms without having any real-world consequences.Where I grew up as a kid, that shit would not have been tolerated. Ha!But I believe it's best not to just go around popping people in the face. Rather, it can be wicked helpful to learn how to direct our energy into discerning how and when to fire “warning shots” - that let people know that they're about to cross a boundary you have set. The thing is, a lot of people don't know how to set boundaries and they often end up feeling trampled on, taken advantage of or that people kinda' use them as a doormat. The flip side to that is people who don't even wait to fire a warning shot. They just go right in, stepping up toe to toe and leading with their power and aggression. So there's a lack of boundaries on both sides of the metaphorical “boxing ring”.Today on the Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how to move through the world without becoming a doormat, but also not being a perpetrator of violence. Whether that's with your thoughts, your words, your actions, or your literal fists.I think it behooves us all to kind of know how to do this and the best way to ensure it happens is to think about it and talk about it ahead of time. I was talking with a client of mine and she mentioned how much she loves and appreciates my podcast. She said that she loves hearing my voice in her head! Ha!It got me thinking about how each of us is always channeling internal voices in our minds. The voice we hear “in our head” that I would equate to a personal podcast with many stations. What influences how you feel, the direction you go in, how quickly you take action and how far you make it, is often just a matter of which station or show you are listening to…Are you listening to the voice of Love or the one of fear? Are you letting the ego run the show all the time or are you turning to Spirit? Are you tuning into your inner teacher that's in communion with your intuition and the divine? Or is your dial set to what writer Anne Lamott calls, “Radio Station KFKD?” Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the inner voice that lives inside each of us, aka” our own personal podcast. Just like how some podcasts don't always provide the most helpful content, the voice in our head doesn't always share the best quality content either! When that happens, it's our job to recognize the static and chatter and to change the station to something that supports, encourages or inspires. So, what inner “personal podcasts” are you downloading and listening to every day?KK's Takeaways:Your Personal Podcast (5:30)Ritual Quiets (12:23)My Greatest Joy (19:42)Karen Kenney is known for her dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and her no BS approach to Spirituality. I think that there's a lot of misperceptions and expectations about people who are supposed to be - quote, unquote, “spiritual”. There's this belief that spiritual people are supposed to look, sound, or be a particular way.The reality is, as a spiritual person and spiritual mentor - I can also show up in what I call a highly “spirited” kind-of-way. Ha!Which means I might not fit the idea, image or stereotype that somebody else made up in their own head. For example: It doesn't make me or you a “bad person” to have boundaries we adhere to. Sometimes the most loving thing you can say to somebody is a firm “no.”Especially if the thing they're about to do or speak - is not only going to possibly be harmful to others, but could also be harmful to themselves. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I'm talking about how as spiritual beings, we can be highly connected and still be wicked down to earth. We can be super spiritual, and still swear “like a sailor”!We can be kind, compassionate and loving and still call bullsh*t, when we see it.Being “spiritual” doesn't mean we have to just sit back, accept or put up with the things other people try to throw our way, no matter how bad, hurtful or disrespectful it is. As you go throughout your day, pay attention to the way that you talk to yourself, listen to the words that you use and notice how they make you feel when you hear them, echo back to you. Are there any that cause you to slam on the brakes? Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about what one of my teachers, Melissa Tiers, likes to call “door stopper” words. Where in your life, whether personal or business, or in your mind or when talking about your dreams/goals are you using the kind of words that have some sort of neural association for you - that just don't allow you to move forward, or take action toward your true potential?Sometimes, it's just a matter of a small adjustment to your words and story that can make all the difference. For instance when I say to my clients, “I'm not assigning you homework, I'm assigning you ‘heart work'.” That subtle shift in perspective can move it from something we don't want to do, to something that lights us on fire!So often, just by slightly adjusting the lens and language, and looking at something from a different viewpoint, we're able to move ourselves from fear to Love and no longer be held back from what it is we're here to do!KK's Takeaways:I Love To Learn (3:00)I Get So Lit Up (8:31)Triple Hat Learner (12:21)Sharing My Excitement (16:00)Open State (20:48)What Are Your Doorstopper Word? The word gratitude derives from the Latin word “Gratia” meaning grace or graciousness. I think the beautiful thing about it is, when we feel gratitude, it kind of encompasses all of these things, that feeling of graciousness, gratefulness, and ultimately grace, all in one.Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I'm talking about the power of gratitude and how the act of being thankful brings so much power with it, that we sometimes miss in our hurried ways of extending it. It's wicked easy to take Gratitude for granted. The “idea” of it gets thrown around so much in our culture - to the point that it almost becomes something we just say “or do” without any real thinking or feeling behind it.Today I'd like to encourage us all to slow down, pause for a moment and really allow ourselves to tune into the gratitude we are thinking, speaking and feeling and let it wash over us with its sacred loving-connection.Let's get into the habit of when we do feel grateful - to pause, take a deep breath in, exhale it out twice as long… and really see or imagine in our mind what or who it is we're grateful for. Then move that feeling down from the head to the heart.Say goodbye to just “checking the box” of gratitude practice and instead experience it at the soul level extending the grace, gratefulness and graciousness to the humans, animals and Nature all around us.KK's Takeaways:Slow Down & Tune In (10:06)Daily Spiritual Practice Or DSP (13:11)Take A Moment Of Silence (21:42)Operation Love Letters (26:18)Gratitude Journal (32:41)Karen Kenney is known for her dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and her no BS approach to Spirituality. It's really uncool to lift, use, and steal other people's intellectual property, words, ideas, quotes, music, all of it - without giving credit. Now this doesn't mean we can't share what we learned from someone else, or talk about who or what inspired us, but this is where and why the importance of giving acknowledgement and attribution, must come into play. The reality is, if you don't give credit and you rely on copying others - instead of finding and using your own voice, you're not only taking from others, you're also robbing yourself and the world of the opportunity to discover your own unique wisdom, words, and work!Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about giving credit where credit is due because on so many different levels, it matters. This episode is my invitation to you, to slow down, take a good look at how you're showing up online, in your business and in your personal life and then ask yourself… What do you want to do?Who do you want to be? There have been times in my life when, Thank God - I didn't get what I wanted. Now of course, in the moment there may have been some feelings of disappointment or upset, especially if it was something I really had my heart set on.But the reality is… we sometimes project ourselves onto these desires outside of our heart, claiming them as personal wants, with thoughts like “I must have this thing” or “I won't be complete without it.” This can result in us missing the truth that sometimes the thing we think we want, is not actually what we truly need. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how not always getting everything we ask for can sometimes be a blessing in disguise. When we start to get emotionally “addicted” or attached to something and begin to act desperate for it, that's usually a sign that something is at work and it's not our highest self. Sometimes we need to just calm down, take a step back and wait for the directional download to come to us. It doesn't need us to pull it in.Clawing our way towards something that isn't meant for us isn't super helpful, so let's do our best to make a shift toward gratitude and patience and together see what incredible, next steps it brings.KK's Takeaways:The Big Chill (5:07)Job Opening (10:36)Learning The Lesson (15:04)Bad Case Of The Wants (21:02)Karen Kenney is known for her dynamic storytelling, sense of humor, and her no BS approach to Spirituality. At the core of who we truly are, there lies a unique and beautiful individual being and soul who is here for a purpose. Unfortunately, sometimes as children life can hit us wicked hard with the kind of stuff that alters, shifts and changes us. The kind of events, experiences and environments that begin to shape and mold how we see ourselves, the people around us, the world, and our place in it. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about going back to the core of who we are. Remembering the beautiful, sparkly, Divine self that lives unchanging inside each of us. The core that has been covered up, much like those Russian Nesting Dolls, by stories, memories, beliefs, habits and old conditioning. Layers built from pain, hurt, trauma, grief, let downs and all the other challenging stuff that life sometimes throws our way. This is where a deeper look at who we are, where we came from and why we feel as we do is so important. It's in these awarenesses and realizations that allows us to move into asking … What am I going to do about it now? And at what point am I willing to say, “the buck stops here?” Join me today in no longer focusing on and identifying so much with our ever-changing ego self, and the outer physical shell that will one day eventually fall away… But instead putting our focus on what forever remains unchanged inside us and ask… What is really at our core? Wouldn't it be cool if we all had beauty bursting from our minds like the blooms of a flower? Imagine if we had beautiful arrangements of thoughts, creativity, kindness and love brightening up the world around us with their vibrant color. The good news is, this symbolically is within the realm of possibility, but it takes a conscious effort of awareness on our part when it comes to the food, knowledge, relationships or entertainment that we put in us, on us and around us.. Mind bursting beauty requires that we pay attention to what we're putting into our body and what it is generating back out. We have to ask ourselves… Is this thing that I'm about to “consume” something that I want as a part of me? Will it leave me calmer or agitated? Between the nine different time zones we have here in the US, it can sometimes get kind of confusing to keep track of where/when you need to be when meeting online. If you've ever been invited to virtual event, a webinar, a workshop or something online and you think it is happening at 1:00pm your time, only to find out that it actually starts at 4:00pm, because the other person is in California and things were set in their time zone, then you know what I'm talking about! But did you know that there's another 10th super secret-squirrel time zone that hardly ever gets talked about? It's what I like to call DST otherwise known as: “Divine Standard Time”. So often we're in this rush, where we think we know when, how, and why something should go down and who should be there, etc. - but the reality is, none of us have the Golden Key Map to the exact plan. None of us have what I call an “omnipotent viewpoint” and so instead, we have to develop a little trust in the plan that is happening outside of ourselves. This is why having a DSP (Daily Spiritual Practice), can be so helpful and powerful in this very uncertain human experience - because when things don't go down how we think it should, or how we want it to, or when we wish it would, we can consider that maybe something greater than or “divinely smarter” than us, is on the job. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about “Divine Standard Time” and how there can be some tough pills to swallow in this human experience. Some things that we just can't understand why they happen, and it's not for us to try and explain it away or make it feel okay for everyone. We all have to have our own experiences, feel our feelings, go through our grief and forgiveness processes in our own time and our own way. We can't rush that stuff at all. Remember, life isn't always happening on our timeline. This is DST at work. When it comes to our personal growth development and our spiritual transformation work, there's no way to just “one and done it”. Often I hear people will say things like, “Oh Yeah …” I've read the book. I've watched the Youtube video. I've taken the course. I've listened to the podcast. And, my question is, “What did you do with that information afterwards?” There's a wicked big difference between having read, completed or listened to something - versus - actually taking in the information and then applying, practicing, living and embodying what was shared and or taught. Reading a book, listening to an episode, or even taking a course is step one. But there is so much more work to be done. We can't just stop at step one. From there we need to actually move forward onto step two and spend a little time with the information. Become familiar with it, start to apply it, live, breathe, and speak it. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how when it comes to our healing, there's usually no such thing as a “one and done it.” It's one thing to read the words on the page, aka information. It's a totally different thing to contemplate that information and bring it from your head, down into your heart, and then moving it into and out through your hands, symbolically by becoming it or doing something with it in the world. When we take in information intellectually and then drop it down into the wisdom of the heart, we can actually take action and put it into practice. In getting more intimate with the information we absorb, that's where we find true, lasting healing. There's an Olympic sport called “Curling” that involves bumpy ice, a smooth stone and some vigorous “sweepers” - who try to smooth out the path in front of the stone so it can travel farther and straighter. In our lives there's always going to be bumpy stuff that comes up for us. And, if we don't feel mentally, emotionally, spiritually or physically prepared and are not equipped to do what it takes to “sweep in front of our own stone” we're going to be left feeling stuck, stressed, anxious or depressed, and like life is too much to manage or too challenging to overcome the obstacles in our way. By getting our minds into alignment with the reality that life is going to be hard sometimes and understanding that there will be difficult hours or days, we can learn to accept that it's all a part of the whole being human experience. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the difficulties we often encounter in life and how it's a pretty normal part of the human experience to go through them. The key words here being, “go through”. The truth is, we all can build the foundation necessary to withstand hard times, not only underneath us, but all around us. So that when we find ourselves bumping up against these harder days and or moments, we don't just have to sit back and wish somebody else would come to save us or rescue us. We can step up to the plate, get “sweeping” on our own behalf and get done what needs to be done. The other night on a call with my spiritual membership and community: THE NEST, I was reminded how we as people, creatives, and entrepreneurs often have a big fear of being judged. The thing with feeling judged by others is we begin to believe we don't belong, that we're being attacked, we're not safe or will be abandoned. It can also leave us feeling like we're somehow wrong or that we're not lovable, worthy or “good enough” because … fill in the blank … it comes up in a thousand different ways. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the reality that as human beings, we pretty much all judge. It's unfortunately what our ego-mind and in turn people do to one another. The ego loves to make us “special” through either feeling superior to others or “shittier” than others. Ha! Eventually because of this state of mind, we find ourselves in a pattern of not only being somebody who judges, but also in the fear and feeling of being on the receiving end of other's judgment. (And we all know how that feels.) For this reason, so many people will not pursue their dreams, they won't start that business, or write that book because they believe they can't show up fully as themselves without being judged, attacked, made fun of or called out. It's all a racket run by the ego, and we don't have to be held hostage to it. We know how much it hurts to be in the aim and fire of somebody else's attack of judgment. So let's do our part and have the change start with us and choose today to stop doing it first and foremost, both to ourselves and to each other. In my realm of work, people are usually “symptom aware”. They know they're unhappy, anxious, stressed out, struggling or suffering in some way. Where they get stuck is that they're often not “problem aware” (why or what's really happening) and they're definitely not “solution aware”. Meaning they're not making the connection between the symptoms/problems they're having and how somebody like me could help them. It's not like when people are struggling or suffering that they lay in bed at night thinking; “If only I had a spiritual mentor.” HA! Instead, they do what humans tend to do when they're sad, stressed, overwhelmed, scared or anxious; things like binge Netflix, drink booze, scroll social media, shop online, get high, keep busy, overwork… Basically anything to distract themselves, because they're uncomfortable and don't like how they're feeling and want to numb it with whatever they can find. Rather than trying to understand where the cause of the problem lies and how to heal it from the inside out, people often look for external quick fixes or avoid it altogether. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about our “Spiritual Plumbing” and how when it needs servicing or maintenance, a spiritual mentor can be wicked helpful and support you to get unstuck, stop the leaks, remove the blocks to Love and get back into the flow of life. You see it all the time; people who aren't writing the books, or creating the art or baking the food or building the business, and yet they still have something to say about those who are. You find them sitting on the sidelines, on the bench, in the bleachers and in the backseat offering up their critiques without ever having stepped foot into the arena themselves. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the kinds of people that light me up to work with and who I also want to spend my time with both personally and professionally. These are the ones that are showing up and actively participating in their life and their business with their whole body, mind and soul in the game. If they get knocked down, they're willing to get back up, to try new things or to seek help in both healing and growing themselves or growing their businesses. As a spiritual mentor, it gives me great joy to work with people who want to be more spiritually aligned, have more self knowledge, who no longer want to just sit and complain about things in their life, but instead are willing to actually do the work it takes to get better. Ask For Support, Not Permission

I've been wanting to talk about this concept about “asking for support, not permission” more in depth for a long time now. It's come up again and again in conversations with other entrepreneurs and also on podcasts where I've been a guest. I've touched upon the subject, but this episode gives me a chance to dive in a little deeper.. If you're an entrepreneur, business owner or you sell things (services, products, programs, etc) there comes a moment in the conversation with a potential client or customer about wanting to sign up to work together, join the program, buy the product and the inevitable question of “payment” or moving forward with making the investment? Today on the Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about the thing that sometimes happens when you talk with a person who already knows they want to work with you, they feel it in their gut that you're the right mentor/coach/company/solution for them or their problem and they even say, “Yes! I want to do this or buy this thing or take that leap of faith...” BUT… And I've seen this time and time again, where the person will be 100% ready to go, they're wicked excited to begin, they might even ask for the sign up link and then they say something like, “I just have to talk to my husband/wife/sweetie/partner first.” They move from their inner, intuitive knowing, where they were lit up and excited to go, grow, heal, and expand, into now having to talk to someone else before they invest in themselves, their calling or their business. This conversation can unfortunately be the place where dreams go to die. Because the partner might not be an entrepreneur or may not understand or believe in the importance of mentors/coaches, spiritual growth or investing in personal development. They might also not have the same dreams, vision or purpose as you do. They might not share the same money stories or they may be more risk averse than you are. This is where asking for support rather than permission comes into play. Now, I know that there's lots of different financial situations and nuanced processes around decision making in relationships, especially when it comes to spending money. So this isn't a judgment. This episode is an exploration about these kinds of conversations and hopefully a helpful way to approach them. It helps to know yourself, know what you want and need and to lead with love instead of fear, so you can find the courage to ask for support to back you up, rather than the permission to take the first step. KK's Takeaways: I Just Need To Talk To (5:56) Justify My Desire (9:19) They Aren't Willing To Take The Risks (18:29) Investing In Yourself (24:15) Squirrel Away Your Investment (31:08) I Believe In Myself (41:02) Karen Kenney is a Certified https://www.karenkenney.com/spiritual-mentoring (Spiritual Mentor), Certified Hypnotist, writer, speaker, and the host of https://www.karenkenney.com/podcast (The Karen Kenney Show Podcast). If you're on my email list, you saw that I recently sent one out that was titled, “Are You Willing to Enter The Cave?” It was all about a journey that started for me back when I was 17 and that intensified in my 20's when I went on a couple of Spiritual Pilgrimages. It was on that particular trip to England & Ireland when I sat in Merlin's Cave that I felt called to go on a “quest”. Most often when we think about going on a quest, we think of journeying to faraway places or discovering new lands! And those external adventures can also be incredible experiences for the one who has been called. However for me, “The Quest” although it has shown up in a multitude of ways at different points in my life, each one was ultimately pointing me to a journey inward. It was answering the call to know myself, so that I could build a solid foundation for both my personal and professional life. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about my relationship with the word, Quest, where it originated from, how it's influenced me and my work, and the fun and powerful ways it's continually shown up over the course of my personal and professional life. Not sure how it is for you, but sometimes in this kind of setting, our eyes end up being bigger than our stomachs and our plates become way too full to finish. The same can be seen in our daily lives; people calling on us for help, looking for support, a bunch of events and activities that we want to attend, filling up the schedule, booking up all of our time and we end up with too much on our symbolic “plates” of life. We fill our day to day with so much commitment that we leave no room for ourselves to just BE, often taking it to the point of burnout. Sometimes, people are quick to underestimate us, particularly if we're not the same as them or display characteristics or traits that differ from their own. But to that I say “let them underestimate you.” Use their disbelief to your advantage. In this day and age of social media and the internet, a lot of people seem to have no respect for intellectual property. They will just take someone else's words, content and or ideas and slap their name on a quote card and call it their own. They believe that if they alter it slightly, even just by one word and then attribute it to themselves, then they're good to go. Sometimes they'll even teach entire concepts word for word without ever giving attribution. In fact, there's a few successful people who've made a lot of money in the coaching and entrepreneurial world on the backs of people who came before them that they give no credit to. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about having integrity and not plagiarizing someone else's work. Or as I like to simply say… “Don't steal sh*t!” It's really not that complicated. Having the integrity to acknowledge your teachers or where you get information from doesn't take anything away from your intelligence or reputation. In fact, it works in your favor and shows that you're confident enough in your own wisdom and lived experience, to not be afraid to let people know about your mentors, teachers or other brilliant friends who you've learned from or are also doing great work in the world!   KK's Takeaways: Go & Steal Someone Else's Work?! There are times by simply being ourselves and making our own choices, we inspire or influence others in a positive way to look at themselves and what their path is. This happens especially if someone looks up to us, respects us or likes to learn from us. Occasionally, it can also have the opposite effect, and people will see or hear you and then subconsciously feel uncomfortable with what they themselves are doing, what they're choosing or how they're being. And, sometimes by just you being you, you being your creative self, or you living in the world as you are and as you feel called to do, other people are going to feel the need to say something about it. Here's the thing, we don't have to say (or believe) every damn thing that pops into our head. In fact, so much of what we think about how life or others should be is biased and unnecessary, but the ego tries to convince us that what we have to say is so special and important, that we feel the need to share all of it with the world wherever we go. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about “creating our own world”. One where we get to do what we need to in order to feel healthy, happy and fulfilled, without feeling the need to inflict those preferences on others. This doesn't mean that we don't share about them, we just don't need to insist that others follow suit. As Bob Ross so brilliantly said; “Just because I did one, doesn't mean you have to.” We're all here to find our own way and one person's preferences, does not make another's wrong. We get to be different and that's super-duper OK! It seems like so many people are feeling overwhelmed these days or have a kind of “sense of despair”. There's been so much senseless violence, loss and grief happening in the world and folks are just trying to work their way through it. Even in my own life, in the past six months, I've lost three of my Aunties, and three of my furry kids. Let me tell you, it has been a season. I also know people who've lost their homes or have been kicked out of their homes, and I've heard of others whose rents have doubled overnight. The stories are just heart-wrenching and it sometimes feels like the world has lost its ever-loving mind. The question that often comes up in my work with others is, “What can I, as one individual person, really do to make a difference?” To this I say, “While we can't change the world, what we can do is change ourselves, our minds, our perspectives and choose how we respond to what is happening in the world.” Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how much there's going on in the world, and how that can leave people feeling hopeless or helpless, or like you're being left in the dark without a clue on what to do. My goal for this episode is to share a few of the helpful tools that I've used when it comes to navigating through some of the “colossal shit shows” that seem to happen in our world. Connecting The Dots

As a Spiritual Mentor, I often jokingly say that, “This being human is an ongoing problem.” Funny things about humans though, we often don't make the connection between human problems and spiritual solutions. When we're facing human sadness, fear, loneliness, grief, heartbreak, trauma, overwhelm, anxiety, disconnection, and the thousand and one other ways that humans can suffer and cause suffering… It doesn't usually occur to many of us that our fecked' up situations can't be solved by the same ego-strategies and thought systems that got us into the fecked' up mess in the first place. We somehow don't connect the dots to finding strength, support, and solutions through spiritual work, tools and practices. In fact, if you had told the much younger version of myself that being willing to say a prayer would solve my human conflict, I'm not sure I would have believed you. Until one day 27+ years ago, I had an experience with my friend and mentor, Marianne Williamson that changed my life forever. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about how we sometimes overlook Spiritual practices and mentoring as a solution because it either never occurred to us before, or we have these different ideas about what we think spiritual work is and how it may or may not help us when we're suffering. However, as I often tell my clients and members, suffering is a wicked good teacher until you get a better one. Are you ready for a better one?
