Substituting expedience for obedience always yields the "fast food" result. Trying to substitute what we want instead of what God has for us never satisfies our needs. It only ever brings something temporary. The truth of the matter is that there is nothing we can hide from God, and yet He still chooses to love us, care for us, and fulfill His promises towards us. Today, Pastor Cami walks us through how King Saul failed time and time again to listen to God's calling, and how God still loved him and his people through the process.

CLUBLAND STORIES March: Mixed Gender Match Play, a gate on the course boundary, determining the reference point, accidentally substituting golf balls, and marking a ball - THE GRQ PODCAST EP135We are back with Episode 135 of the GolfRules Questions Podcast, and this week it is our favourite episode of the month, Clubland Stories. DK has a hypothetical question about a mixed gender match, whilst pedanticus is a little too penaltycus over a pitch mark. Then we have the nerd and bill tell us about some more golf shop stuff ups. We also have another audio question sent in by Dear John, and this time he gives us the answer, just in case.So whether you are cooking rice, or melting gold, please enjoy this episode of the golfrules questions podcast.GRQOTW 134: In stroke play, a marker enters the scores in the wrong boxes on the scorecard, can they correct it after they have returned the scorecard, or is it too late? It is too late. Whilst the hole numbers could be changed prior to the scorecard being returned, it is too late if this is not done before the scorecard has been returned. If a marker signs in the player's spot, and the player signs in the marker's spot, and the scorecard is returned, is that also too late to correct it, or does it even need to be corrected? It does not even need to be corrected. As long as their are two signatures on the scorecard, it will be accepted.GRQOTW135: A player's ball, played from the putting green, is deflected into the hole by another player's caddie, who accidentally walked across the line of play. The original ball, or another ball, must be replaced on its orginal spot and the stroke must be replayed.GOLFRULES QUESTIONS MERCHANDISEGet yourself a Roo&Coo polo: https://golfrulesquestions.myspreadshop.com/.DO YOU HAVE A RULES OF GOLF QUESTION:Email - golfrules.questions@gmail.comWANT TO TEST YOUR RULES OF GOLF KNOWLEDGE?Head to: www.golfrulesquestions.comWANT A QUICK GOLF RULES REFERENCEHead to Instagram: @golfrules_questions (https://www.instagram.com/golfrules_questions/?hl=en)OR JOIN THE FACEBOOK COMMUNITYhttps://www.facebook.com/golfrulesquestionsLISTEN TO THE GRQ PODCAST ON APPLE OR SPOTIFYClick here: https://anchor.fm/golfrules-questionsSUBSCRIBE to GOLFRULES QUESTIONS https://bit.ly/2I8KrVH for all your golf rules#golfrules #GolfRulesQuestions #blakey
In today's Think Thursday episode, we're diving into one of the most powerful, yet often overlooked, tools for behavior change: human connection. We're not just talking about any connections, but deep, meaningful relationships—the kind that profoundly shape our brain, our well-being, and even our relationship with alcohol. We'll explore what I call the “Connection Economy”, where investing in quality relationships provides neurological, emotional, and physical benefits. Unlike the Attention Economy, which constantly pulls us into distraction and stress, the Connection Economy is where we all profit—gaining better mental health, stronger habits, and a more fulfilling life. What You'll Learn in This Episode:✔️ How deep relationships reshape the brain and impact behavior change✔️ Why the Harvard Study of Adult Development proves that quality relationships are the key to long-term health and happiness✔️ The brain chemistry of connection—how oxytocin, dopamine, and serotonin create lasting well-being✔️ The dangers of our current connection crisis and why loneliness increases our reliance on alcohol✔️ 5 science-backed strategies to strengthen connections and support lasting behavior changeKey Takeaways:

Helps reduce cholesterol Nearly 25 million U.S. adults have high cholesterol, but many of them are unaware of this, as high cholesterol has no symptoms. Animal products are the only source of dietary cholesterol; they are also the primary source of saturated fat in our diet, which is associated with higher blood cholesterol levels. Helps prevent type 2 diabetes Approximately one in three American adults has prediabetes—a risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes. Kidney health In the United States, about 30 million adults have chronic kidney disease—and most aren't aware of it. One in three American adults are at risk for chronic kidney disease. Risk factors for kidney disease include diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and family history. Boosts immune system function A healthy plant-based diet can help strengthen your immune system to aid in fighting viruses and help you recover more quickly from illness. Supports a healthy weight Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the risk of serious health problems. Substituting more plant-based foods in place of meat can help contribute to a healthier body weight. Lowers greenhouse gas emissions Nearly 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions come from the production of meat, dairy, and eggs—more greenhouse gases than the world's entire transportation sector—cars, trucks, planes, trains—combined. Eating more plant-based foods can help reduce emissions associated with meat production. Saves water Meat, particularly beef, has the highest water footprint of all foods. Eating a more plant-based diet has the potential to decrease agricultural water use by 50%. Prevents deforestation Livestock production uses 75% of the Earth's agricultural land. Shifting to a more plant-based diet reduces deforestation while decreasing agricultural land use by 80%. Reduces species loss Livestock production is the biggest human contributor to species decline and has led to an over 60% decline in species populations since 1970. Meatless Mondays Helps build healthy habits Research suggests that people are more open to trying healthy behaviors at the start of the week. Monday offers a weekly opportunity to “reset” and get back on track. Studies show that people who restart a healthy habit at the beginning of the week are better able to maintain progress over time. Fosters discovery of new foods Use Meatless Monday as an opportunity to explore new types of recipes, ingredients, and cuisines. Experiment with unfamiliar foods to find new favorites. Saves money Foods like beans, lentils, and tofu are cost-effective protein sources that are typically less expensive than many types of meat, seafood, and poultry. One study found people saved 16% on food costs by switching to a plant-based diet. Expands culinary skills With new ingredients comes the need for new cooking methods. Try using different techniques like braising, air frying, stuffing, and puréeing to make meals more exciting. Strengthens a growing movement Meatless Monday is active in more than 40 countries and available in countless schools, companies, and communities around the world. Kia ora,Welcome to Thursday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect Aotearoa/New Zealand.I'm David Chaston and this is the international edition from Interest.co.nz.And today we lead with news markets are all quiet ahead of the US Fed monetary policy review and results will be announced at 8am NZT. Markets do not expect any rate change, but given the aggressive start to the Trump Administration, markets will be watching for any Fed reaction. It seems unlikely to come today however.US mortgage applications were a little softer last week through the Washington swamp burp, down -2%. And the benchmark 30 year interest rate stayed just above 7% and little changed as lenders assessed the risk implications. Both wholesale and retail American inventory levels fell in the latest accounting out overnight. But as expected, the American trade deficit rose sharply in December as traders rushed to beat the aggressively-signaled tariffs threatened by the incoming Administration. That is entirely consistent with what we had reported for trans-Pacific freight rates. In fact exports fell rather sharply too with buyers fulling back on the risk of capricious American actions. And imports jumped - in fact they were +15% higher than the same month a year ago. The biggest increases were for food, industrial supplies and capital goods; imports of vehicles actually fell. Substituting these for local supply, which seems to be the plan, will probably create distortions that will be inflationary.Global air cargo demand ended 2024 on a high too, with a surge in international air cargo to and from North America. The Fed will be watching for the actual inflationary reactions, but they may not show up for a few months yet. But by the time they do show up, the impulse may be embedded already. They have a tough watch-wait-react conundrum ahead of them - well aware that if they get it wrong, Trump will blame them.In Canada, they have already announced their rate decision earlier today, and as expected they cut by -25 bps to 3.00%. They face the same pressures from their neighbour, but from the other side. They are in the unique position of not having a friendly neighbour any more. They also signaled that they will no longer reduce their balance sheet, so the end of their qualitative tightening program. From here on, their balance sheet will be set to grow at the same rate as their economy. 'Normalisation' is returning at a much higher level that pre-pandemic. Back then they had a balance sheet of C$117 bln. They are 'normalising' now at C$280 bln.In Russia, after some successful 2024 central bank moves to keep a lid on inflation, producer prices are taking off again, up +7.9% in December. The Kremlin-pressured back-tracking on those moves is having the anticipated effect, and they are heading into a period of high inflation again. In Australia, there were some mixed signals in the Q4 CPI data released there yesterday, along with their Monthly Inflation Indicator for December. The Q4 CPI rate fell to 2.4% from 2.5% in Q3, and slightly better than expected. Underlying inflation fell to 3.2%. But the month inflation indicator rose to 2.5% in December, up from 2.3% in November and 2.1% in October, and actually the highest in four months, so tracking the "wrong way". Markets however focused on the "good" quarterly result, anticipating this will open the door for a RBA rate cut on February 18. But you have to wonder if that is actually how Bullock & Team see it.Markets have reacted very little to the Aussie CPI data, signaling that all the risks are priced in. Politically, some think a February RBA rate cut could mean an April federal election there. The UST 10yr yield is at 4.55%, down -1 bp from yesterday at this time awaiting the US Fed decision. The price of gold will start today at US$2752/oz and down a minor -US$6 from yesterday.Oil prices are up +50 USc at just over US$73.50/bbl in the US and the international Brent price is now at US$77.50/bbl.The Kiwi dollar is now at 56.5 USc and down -10 bps from this time yesterday. Against the Aussie we are up +20 bps at 90.8 AUc. Against the euro we are little-changed at just under 54.3 euro cents. That all means our TWI-5 starts today just under 67.1, and also little-changed from yesterday. The bitcoin price starts today at US$101,997 and down a minor -0.3% from this time yesterday. Volatility over the past 24 hours has been modest at +/- 1.4%.You can find links to the articles mentioned today in our show notes. You can get more news affecting the economy in New Zealand from interest.co.nz.Kia ora. I'm David Chaston. And we will do this again tomorrow.
This episode continues the discussion on *Havdalah* practices, focusing on the comparison between *Kiddush* and *Havdalah* as seen through the lens of Jewish law. The Rambam links both rituals, but the episode explores key differences, particularly when it comes to using wine and other drinks like beer for *Havdalah*. Various rabbinic opinions are reviewed on what constitutes a "drink of the locale" (*Hamar Medina*), discussing whether beverages such as beer or whiskey can substitute for wine in different contexts. The episode delves into the nuances of how and when to use beer or other drinks for *Havdalah*, emphasizing that the local customs and availability of wine play a crucial role. It also touches on the importance of *Kiddush* and *Havdalah* being tied to the meal or ceremony and the proper practices surrounding these ritual

Laboring Under Pressure Episode 4: Obstetric Emergency in South Africa with Dr. Meghan Hurley Contributors: Meghan Hurley MD, Travis Barlock MD, Jeffrey Olson MS3 Show Pearls Map of South Africa Referenced South Africa Geography Lesson There is a big disparity between Cape Town and its neighbor Khayelitsha. Cape Town is the legislative capital and economic hub of South Africa, known for its infrastructure, tourist attractions, and developed urban areas. Khayelitsha Township is a large informal settlement on the outskirts of Cape Town, with limited infrastructure and services compared to the city center. Many residents live in informal housing. This disparity is the lasting effect of how land was divided up and populations were moved around during Apartheid. Apartheid was a policy of segregation that lasted from 1948 to 1994. How does medical education work in South Africa? Medical education in South Africa typically follows a 6-year undergraduate program directly after high school Registrars our the equivalent of Resident in America. They are graduated doctors who work in hospitals under the supervision of senior doctors as they progress toward becoming specialists. Pearls from the case and the discussion afterward Whole blood from a draw can be used instead of urine on a POC pregnancy test. Wait a little bit longer before making a determination because blood is more viscous. Although the casettes are not approved for whole blood several studies have shown this to be efficacious. Free fluid in the abdomen and a pregnancy of unknown location is a rupture ectopic until proven otherwise. Appendicitis can present on the left side. Most commonly from an extra appendix, but can also result from situs inversus or mid-gut malrotation. This presentation can also be the result of an atypically large appendix. Fever is common in appendicitis (~40%) and becomes less common with older patients. Don't be falsely reassured by a normal hemoglobin in acute bleeding because patients bleed whole blood and the hemoglobin concentration is not affected. These patients should be resuscitated with whole blood. Give rhesus factor negative blood to female patients of childbearing age to prevent them from developing antibodies to the rhesus factor which can lead to Rh disease in future pregnancies. Rhogam can be given in cases of ruptured ectopic pregnancies to lower the risk of alloimmunization. Blood transfusions carry the risk of lung and heart injury from the extra volume. The treatment for this condition is to diurese the patient. Other topics discussed include the complications of working in a South African township hospital at night, the epidemiology of burns, and the importance of global health. DSD 5.10 | Rumen friendly fatty acids in High Oleic Beans Soybeans and dairy cows have walked hand for decades. These oil beans are known specifically for the amino acid sequence in their high-quality protein and energy to support lactation. Recent developments in plant breeding has shifted the fat profile of the bean contain a higher amount of Oleic fat, which is easier for the rumen to digest, in certain varieties. Substituting linoleic acid for higher concentrations of oleic allows nutritionists to increase the inclusion rate in the diet and therefore support the herd during times of high production. This month we feature an article from Dr. Adam Lock and his team at Michigan State University as highlighting research generated from on-farm questions. Ensuring producers know how much to feed, and how to feed high oleic soybeans to the herd was the objective of a series of research projects in the pipeline of publications due to come from MSU in the coming months and years. Did you know that one simple change in your kitchen could transform your health? In today's episode, Miles Hassell, MD, explores the extensive health benefits of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Drawing on three lines of evidence, he makes a compelling case for making EVOO your primary kitchen fat. A few takeaways from Miles Hassell, MD: Studies have shown that EVOO supports gut health. A healthy gut can contribute to improved digestion, a stronger immune system, and even better mental health. Regular consumption of EVOO has been associated with a lower incidence of dementia. This connection underscores the importance of incorporating EVOO into your diet as part of a proactive approach to brain health. Research indicates that higher consumption of olive oil is linked to a lower incidence of certain cancers. The powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of EVOO play a significant role in reducing cancer risk. One of the most well-documented benefits of EVOO is its ability to lower the risk of heart disease. Unlike other vegetable oils, EVOO has been consistently shown to promote cardiovascular health. Miles Hassell, MD emphasizes that EVOO is not just a cooking ingredient but a therapeutic tool. Its unique composition of monounsaturated fats, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds makes it a powerhouse for health promotion. While other vegetable oils lack the same level of evidence for health benefits, EVOO stands out for its protective effects. When compared to other oils, EVOO consistently comes out on top. Making the switch to EVOO can be a simple yet powerful change to improve your overall health. So next time you're cooking, reach for the EVOO and enjoy both its flavor and its multitude of health benefits. Join the cause! A PubMed search on the day this was written finds 36,735 new publications in the last 24 hours. Adding the word “oncology” narrows the number to 4,334. Substituting “lung cancer” for “oncology” results in 534 articles. How many of these do you think your HCPs and KOLs will be able to read before the next batch of publications comes out tomorrow? This is to say that publishing a scientific study or article can feel like squeezing an eyedropper into the ocean and it is the job of the publication's team to ensure this drop-in-the-ocean has impact — especially when publishing a study with the potential to change clinical practice. Here we learn practical tips straight from the source – namely, experts at Wiley. How can you translate peer-reviewed publications to clinical impact? How can licensing extend (or perhaps restrict…) the reach of published research? How can publications be leveraged as the hub of an omnichannel approach? Listen to learn more.

In which Noah Smith & Brad DeLong wish Daron Acemoglu & Simon Johnson had written a very different book than their "Power & Progress" is...Key Insights:* Acemoglu & Johnson should have written a very different book—one about how some technologies complement and others substitute for labor, and it is very important to maximize the first.* Neither Noah Smith nor Brad DeLong is at all comfortable with “power” as a category in economics other than as the ability to credibly threaten to commit violence or theft.* Acemoglu & Robinson's Why Nations Fail is a truly great book. Power & Progress is not.* We should not confuse James Robinson with Simon Johnson* Billionaires running oligopolistic tech firms are not trustworthy stewards of the future of our economy.* The IBM 701 Defense Calculator of 1953 is rather cool. * The lurkers agree with Noah Smith in the DMs.* The power loom caused technological unemployment because the rest of the value chain—cotton growing, spinning, and garment-making—was rigid, hence the elasticity of demand for the transformation thread → cloth was low.* We need more examples of bad technologies than the cotton gin and the Roman Empire.References: * Acemoglu, Daron, & Simon Johnson. 2023. Welcome to Living Well with MS. In this episode, we are sharing the highlights from our webinar, ‘A guide to the Overcoming MS Diet', with Gillian Robertson and Ashley Madden. Gillian and Ashley are both professional chefs who follow the Overcoming MS Program. In this webinar, they discuss how to adopt the diet, the benefits of a plant-based diet, dairy substitutes and much more. Watch the original webinar here. Keep reading for the key episode takeaways. Topics and Timestamps 02:52 Practical ways to adopt the Overcoming MS Diet. 08:56 What is a plant-based diet? 14:58 Meals and snacks that offer a complete protein. 22:32 Substituting cheese and ice cream. 27:13 Cooking without oil. 33:13 Meal planning equipment. 39:33 Plant-based meal planning on a budget. Selected Key Takeaways A whole food, plant-based diet is health-promoting. 11:00 Ashley Madden: “A plant-based diet is high in essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fibre. It's overall anti-inflammatory because we're getting a lot of antioxidants from all those colourful plant foods. It's low in saturated fat, which is important for us, of course, and also has extensive health benefits that go beyond. A plant-based diet has been shown to reduce the risk of some cancers, it can help with weight loss or weight stabilisation, and it can also decrease the risks and sometimes reverse some of the modern-day chronic diseases that we're seeing in a lot of the developed countries.” It's easy to get enough complete protein on a plant-based diet. 14:27 Ashley Madden: “What modern science has taught us is that the amino acid gaps in one plant food are filled in by another plant food. The bottom line is that you don't need to strategically pair plant foods in specific meals to get the protein that you need. We now know that eating a variety of whole plant foods will get you all of the essential amino acids that are required. I have here listed just some simple meal and snack ideas that actually do offer you complete protein that you're probably already doing and don't even know it. So brown rice and beans, oatmeal, and nuts and seeds or soy milk, sprouted bread is a great one because it has a combination of legumes and grains and nuts and hummus on whole wheat toast.” Plant based cooking can be done on a budget. 39:45 Gillian Robertson: “Organic now is a big trend. Obviously, it can be very expensive. Don't feel that you always have to buy organic. As long as you're washing your fruit and vegetables well, you're going to be okay. And it's okay to look at frozen fruit and vegetables as well as fresh ones, these are often cheaper, they're just as nutritious and they can help save time because they're often pre-prepared as well. Frozen fish can also be much more economical. If you start thinking about the inexpensive items in plant-based cooking, [such as] grains, pulses, seasonal vegetables, if you make those the base of your meals, then your meals really are not going to cost that much money. Dr Dunni discusses the importance of growth in our lives as mothers. She highlights how we witness the growth of our children from the moment of pregnancy to their independence and emphasises the need for intentional growth in our own lives. Dr. Dunni shares her personal journey of growth and offers valuable insights on changing our perspective, using journaling as a clarity tool, and substituting negative language with positive affirmations. She also explores how we can help our children navigate their own growth journeys and encourages listeners to join the community for support and connection. KEY TAKEAWAYS Growth is a constant and intentional process that we should pay close attention to in our day-to-day lives. When faced with challenges or feeling stuck, it's important to change the way we look at the situation and adopt a growth mindset. Journaling can be a helpful tool for gaining clarity and exploring our thoughts and emotions during the growth process. Substituting negative language with positive language can shift our perspective and help us navigate through difficult situations. When helping our children navigate their own growth journeys, it's important to listen, understand, and communicate with them, while also encouraging their curiosity and independence. BEST MOMENTS "Growth is something that you and I do every single moment and sometimes we are conscious of it, sometimes we are not." "That is the moment that we need to be extra intentional about our growth journey." This is: Efficiency and resource use scaling parity, published by Ege Erdil on August 21, 2023 on LessWrong. An interesting pattern I've now noticed across many different domains is that if we try to do an attribution of improvements in outcomes or performance in a domain to the two categories "we're using more resources now than in the past" and "we're making more efficient use of resources now than in the past", there is usually an even split in how much improvement can be attributed to each category. Some examples: In computer vision, Erdil and Besiroglu (2022) (my own paper) estimates that 40% of performance improvements in computer vision from 2012 to 2022 have been due to better algortihms, and 60% due to the scaling of compute and data. In computer chess, a similar pattern seems to hold: roughly half of the progress in chess engine performance from Deep Blue to 2015 has been from the scaling of compute, and half from better algorithms. Stockfish 8 running on consumer hardware in 1997 could achieve an Elo rating of ~ 3000, compared to ~ 2500 for contemporary hardware; and Stockfish 8 on 2015 hardware could go up to ~ 3400. In rapidly growing economies, accounting for growth in output per worker by dividing it into capital per worker (resource scaling) and TFP (efficiency scaling, roughly speaking) often gives an even split: see Bosworth and Collins (2008) for data on China and India specifically. More pessimistic estimates of the growth performance of China compared to official data put this split at 75% to 25% (see this post for details) but the two effects are still at least comparable. A toy model A speculative explanation is the following: if we imagine that performance in some domain is measured by a multiplicative index P which can be decomposed as the product of individual contributing factors F1,F2,.,Fn so that P∝∏ni=1Fi, in general we'll have gP=1PdPdt=n∑i=11FidFidt=n∑i=1gFi thanks to the product rule. Note that gX denotes the growth rate of the variable X. I now want to use a law of motion from Jones (1995) for Fi: we assume they evolve over time according to gFi=1FidFidt=θiF-βiiIλii where θi,βi,λi>0 are parameters and Ii is a measure of "investment input" into factor i. This general specification can capture diminishing returns on investment as we make progress or scale up resources thanks to β, and can capture returns to scale to spending more resources on investment at a given time thanks to λ. Substituting this into the growth expression for P gives gP=1PdPdt=n∑i=1θiF-βiiIλii Now, suppose we have a fixed budget I at any given time to allocate across all investments Ii, and our total budget I grows over time at a rate g. To maximize the rate of progress at a given time, the marginal returns to investment across all factors should be equal, i.e. we should have ∂∂Ii(1FidFidt)=∂∂Ij(1FjdFjdt) for all pairs i,j. Substitution gives θiλiF-βiiIλi-1i=θjλjF-βjjIλj-1j and upon simplification, we recover λigFiIi=λjgFiIj In an equilibrium where all quantities grow exponentially, the ratios Ii/Ij must therefore remain constant, i.e. all of the Ii must also grow at the aggregate rate of input growth g. Then, it's easy to see that the Jones law of motion implies gFi=gλi/βi for each factor i, from which we get the important conclusion gFi∝λiβi=ri that must hold in an exponential growth equilibrium. The parameter ri is often called the returns to investment, so this relation says that distinct factors account for growth in P proportional to their returns to investment parameter. How do we interpret the data in light of the toy model? If we simplify the setup and make it about two factors, one measuring resource use and the other measuring efficiency, then the fact that the two factors account for comparable fractions in overall progress should mean that their associated retu...
Substituting fossil-based plastics with compostable ones could help address plastic pollution. But not all bioplastics are eco-friendly or biodegradable. A startup from the UK says seaweed is the answer.
Contributor: Meghan Hurley MD Educational Pearls: What do you do if you need a stat pregnancy test on an incapacitated patient? You can send a serum quantitative human chorionic gonadotropin (beta-HCG), but that might take a while for the lab to process. Another option is to place a drop of whole blood on a urine pregnancy immunoassay. These tests are already verified for urine and serum. 2012 study showed that whole blood was 95.8% sensitive for pregnancy compared to 95.3% for urine. Takes a little bit longer (10 minutes was used in the study) due to the viscosity of blood. Word of caution: This study only looked at a single urine pregnancy kit type. It is possible that other kits would have a different efficacy. There are new finger stick tests coming out for capillary blood. Anecdotally, Dr. Hurley was able to use this technique to support a diagnosis of ruptured ectopic pregnancy in a patient that needed emergent surgery. The news of Texas covered today includes:Our Lone Star story of the day: Governor Abbott has vetoed one of the most important taxpayer protection bills passedby the legislature and it appears to be an act of panic over his inability to fulfill, as of yet, his biggest campaign promise of record property tax relief – ironic almost beyond belief. As The Texan reports it:“In an apparent response to this property tax standoff, Abbott vetoed his third bill from the regular session on Tuesday: Senate Bill 2035 by Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) that'd prohibit the kind of cheeky debt maneuver deployed by the City of Amarillo to finance a project voters had rejected two years earlier.“Bettencourt is the author of the Senate's property tax plan and, other than Patrick, the most critical of the current compression-only proposal.”It appears the Governor, who has always had trouble working with the legislature, is in panic mode over headlines like this: DeSantis overshadowing Abbott as leading conservative ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Our Lone Star story of the day is sponsored by Allied Compliance Services providing the best service in DOT, business and personal drug and alcohol testing since 1995.In a deplorable decision by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Ken Paxton's criminal securities-related case will be heard in Democrat-dominated Harris County instead of his home county. On it's own it is a terrible decision because it sets the idea that the state can venue shop in a criminal case as opposed to the defendant having the ability to be tried by his peers. The Dallas Morning News reported:“Judge Sharon Keller disagreed with the majority opinion.“The Court cites no case supporting its conclusion that a regional presiding judge can vicariously agree to allow the holding of court by a different district judge under the Texas Constitution. Because the law is unsettled, mandamus relief is inappropriate,” wrote Keller, who was joained in her dissent by Judge Mary Lou Keel.Judge Kevin Yeary also dissented.”Separately, the case is yet another example of how the wheels of justice were already turning and makes the House's radical decision to use impeachment in the Paxton case improper. Substituting a bunch of politicians for police and judicial systems, that come with due process and appellate protections, is unwarranted in the Paxton case.I review more bills Governor Abbott has signed. And, other news of Texas.Listen on the radio, or station stream, at 5pm Central. To some extent, everyone deals with negative thoughts during early sobriety. However, if you allow yourself to believe your negative thoughts are automatically true, they can become a serious threat to your recovery. These whispered lies encourage a victim mentality, promote a sense of hopelessness, and keep you from fulfilling your potential. They discourage the growth mindset which is a crucial part of overcoming the challenges faced when you are new. Tonight, we talk about Substituting Truth Phrases for Whispered Lies.
