Riding Shotgun With Charlie #201 Matt Mallory & Klint Macro Meet The Pressers It's always a great time to run into Matt & Klint from Meet The Pressers. We filmed a show at SHOT in 2020. And they let me use their car to film a couple other shows. This year we were able to film another show on SHOT's Range Day. Since our last show, Matt has been busy getting and giving training with Public Safety & Education, his training company. He offers several of the NRA and USCCA courses. But he is also a Master Instructor for SABRE Pepper Spray and for the TASER Civilian Course. He travels the country teaching these classes. Of course, he also offers several other training opportunities. Since the Bruen decision in June 2022, he's been doing the 18, yes EIGHTEEN, hour course to get a carry permit in New York. The NY Governor signed the Concealed Carry Improvement Act, or the Concealed Carry Improvement Atrocity as he calls it. He was able to take topics and lessons from his other courses to meet the 18 hour requirement and qualification. Some states like Massachusetts, have approved courses. States like New York have approved content in the course. Another new course is the Build Your Own 2A BeAR. You can build your own AR-15 style rifle, with a pinned magazine, which makes the rifle not an “assault weapon”. Matt offers about 95 different courses through PS&Ed, including teaching at the local police academy. Other than that, Matt and I have been doing a LIVE show on our YouTube channels. We're honored that Mantis and Next Level Training are our sponsors of the show. And we give away a Mantis X10 and a SIRT pistol every month. Klint is holding his own in the keeping busy department. He's had LASIK surgery on his eyes. Yes, it may seem weird to talk about eye surgery on a gun show. The reason he did it is because if someone broke into his home, got into a confrontation, and swiped his face and knocked his glasses off, he wouldn't be able to see them anymore. This is the outside of the box thinking that Klint does. He's also a consultant with the USCCA. They have him training the trainers all around the country. As a consultant for the USCCA''s official partners, he helps instructors build a training path for their clients. Some duties include helping with marketing and retaining clients. He's been working with them for years, but they offered him a position he couldn't turn down. He's also been able to keep his training company, Trigger Pressers Union, offering courses. He's doing classes with Personal Defense Network, running National Train a Teacher's Day, president of Allegheny County Sportsman League. He's the Vice President of Firearm Owners Against Crime. The most challenging part of all Klint's gigs is keeping his hats separated and on correctly. He can't speak for one group when he's representing a different one or speaking to a different group. Klint talks about how after the government lockdowns of 2020, there were lots of people making purchases and seeking out training. This was very different from previous generations of gun owners. People want to buy firearms and take some training not because its required, but because they want to know how to use their new guns safely. Often he'll tell folks to offer a basic course on having a firearm in the home and teach people how to be better consumers. Matt and Klint have a lot going on, individually and as a team. Between the courses locally and around the country, they're always on the go. You should take a course with either of them when they're in your area. And tell them Charlie said Hello! Favorite quotes: Matt: “It's a corrupt government in New York state… It's legalized crime.” Matt: “I'm not going to let them walk out with a certificate if they can't keep their finger off the trigger when it's important.” Klint: “All the stuff I had in place would mean nothing if you knocked off my glasses.” Klint: “I believe my purpose is to help empower my fellow Americans to exercise that Right to protect themselves and their families and to be their own first responders.” MTP Website https://meetthepressers.com/ MTP YouTube https://www.youtube.com/c/meetthepressers MTP FB https://www.facebook.com/MeetThePressers/ MTP IG https://www.instagram.com/meetthepressers Trigger Pressers Union https://triggerpressersunion.com/index.html Trigger Pressers Union https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063643621298 Trigger Pressers Union https://www.instagram.com/trigger_pressers_union/ PS & Ed Website https://psanded.com/ PS & Ed IG https://www.instagram.com/psandeducation/ PS & Ed FB https://www.facebook.com/psanded/ Second Amendment Foundation https://secure.anedot.com/saf/donate?sc=RidingShotgun Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms https://www.ccrkba.org/ Please support the Riding Shotgun With Charlie sponsors and supporters. In today's Training Segment, Rob discusses what he feels is a gun owner's most important responsibility: Preventing unauthorized access to your firearm. Is that what you thought he was going to say? Then in the Politics & Gun Rights Segment, Rob discusses the upcoming election of officers at the annual NRA conference Memorial Day weekend. Which individuals does Rob's believe should be prevented from unauthorized access to your firearms? Listen for the complete details behind these considerations: Individuals who do not know how to safely operate a firearm Individuals with malicious intent Individuals without the mental capacity to understand the possible negative outcomes of firearms use Individuals who are physically incapable of operating a firearm Individuals with impaired judgement or perception. Memorial Day weekend, the NRA meets in Houston to elect a new board members and EVP. Wayne LaPierre has been driving the organization for years and now a serious contender for the position. On April 26, the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) released new rules to remove and replace the regulatory definitions of ‘‘firearm frame or receiver'' and ‘‘frame or receiver'' because the current regulations fail to capture the full meaning of those terms. The ATF's is also refining definitions of ‘‘firearm'' and ‘‘gunsmith'' to clarify the meaning of those terms, plus other terms in order to keep up with current advances in gun-making. You can find the full text of the new ruling here: https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations/rulemaking In today's extended Politics Segment of episode, Rob provides his thoughts and insights after reviewing all 364 pages of the document. (Just a note... not ALL 364 pages are new rules.) Rob breaks down the rules, removing hype and sensationalism. Should you be concerned? In today's Education Segment, Rob talks about the realities of using a kit gun as your primary self defensive weapon. Is it a good idea? What should you be concerned about? Are there added liability concerns? Big topics today required an episode twice as long as normal! If you liked what you heard today, share it with a friend and subscribe/follow today! In this week's episode, Rob talks about Armed Home Defense in the Training Segment and Defending Property in the Politics Segment. Armed Home Defense is build upon basic defensive skills with attention to specific actions focused on protecting your life and the lives of your loved one. Preparation includes knowing how to use your weapon in your home, where there are bedrooms, or even the living spaces where your loved ones may be located. In other words, know your home. How long are the hallways. Where is there cover and not just concealment? Where do you have defensive equipment stored? Where is a safe location to evade? Next are the tactics for Armed Home Defense. How do these differ from those used on the street or other public locations? Rob reviews the five tactics of Evade, Barricade, Arm, Communicate and Respond. Knowing how to protect yourself and your loved ones in a known location (not always in your home) is an important skill with specialized tactics. You can learn more by reviewing the information at Personal Defense Network, including the DVD set, "Home Security and Defense". You can learn more about the Three C's of Communication Rob refers to here: https://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/video/three-cs-coordinated-defense-013026/ The Politics Segment on Property Defense is closely aligned with defending your home, but they are not interchangeable terms nor do they have interchangeable meanings. Defending property (such as your house, car, truck or even laptop) is typically not something States see as warranting an armed response. Rob discusses the challenges and considerations you must make when faced with this situation. It is most likely not what you think. In today's Training Segment, Rob discusses the recent surge of 'red dot optics' appearing on factory pistols. Is this good? Is it bad? It's cool, but is it right for self defensive, carry pistols? Are they all made the same or are there features to look for or to avoid? Next in the Politics Segment, Rob talks with Randy Miyan, CEO of Liberal Gun Owners. LGO was created to address the general belief that all gun owners are violence obsessed, deviants who can only be understood through "criminal and epidemiological studies of gun violence". And that all Liberals are far left, Democrats and pacifists. Randy discusses with Rob LGO's work and commitment to gun rights and public safety. What's the difference between practice and training? In this week's Training Segment, Rob explores the difference and why both are important, but why the terms are not interchangeable. Next in the Politics Segment, Rob talks with Edgar Antillon about Guns For Everyone and Guns for Everyone National. Edgar runs free CCW training in Colorado and is actively involved in the National GFE organization. As you can expected, free training runs against the belief of some trainers, but Edgar believes training should be available for anyone who wants to know how to safely handle firearms. The local sheriff has attempted to block the training, but has backed down facing the prospect of losing the legal challenge. Listen to this discussion on free training! Finally, Rob recently participated in a Colorado Gun Makers meeting and match. In today's Politics Segment, Rob discusses the issue of Universal Background Checks. Why are 'Universal Background Checks' a bad idea? Is it an infringement to our 2nd Amendment rights? Could it lead to the end of private firearms sales? To government confiscation of your arms? These are important points to consider. You can find more on the topic of Background Checks, Universal Background Checks and Private Transfers at GunRights.info. Next in the Training Segment, Rob invites podcast producer, Jeff Ott, back to the show. This week Jeff asks Rob about the use of hand-loaded ammunition. Is this good or bad? In can ultimately pay for itself in savings over 'off the shelf' manufactured ammunition. Are there any downsides and if so, what are they? __________________ The Rob Pincus Podcast is brought to you by The Personal Defense Network. In today's episode, Rob kicks off immediately following the conclusion of the 2022 SHOT Show. Rob sums up some of his observations. Next, in today's Politics and Gun Rights segment - brought to you by the 2nd Amendment Organization, Rob takes a what some may think as a controversial position on in the Mandated Gun Training. Is this good or bad? You'd think a leading defensive arms trainer would welcome State mandated training to own a firearm. Listen to Rob's position and consider your own. Your voice is needed in this discussion. Then in the Training segment of the podcast and from the floor of SHOT SHOW, Rob talks with Mike "Ox" Ochsner, about 'neurological-based training' and his newly released book, Real World Gunflight Training. Mike's approach takes traditional training and drills one step further and incorporates how the brain learns (vision, balance, and hand-eye coordination) to accelerate training adaptation. In today's episode, we kick off what will become a semi-regular feature on the podcast, questions on training tactics, politics and other areas of personal defense. Today, podcast producer, Jeff Ott steps out from behind the soundboard to ask Rob questions on: The importance of the 'Startle Response' Rob introduces in all his training. Why is it important, how it is used and what the student gains from adding this to their training routine Holster preferences. There are many different types and makes of holsters available. What is good and what isn't for the person interested in carrying a pistol. Personal one-on-one discussions on the right to carry can be difficult. What is the best approach in engaging others who may not understand or are perhaps, frightened of guns. These are topics every gun owner needs to consider. In today's episode, Rob talks in depth about Counter Ambush Training methodology and in the politics segment, how you can best represent all gun owners following a mass shooting tragedy. How can you best train for defensive situations? Does dry-fire practice have a place in Counter Ambush Training? What about the "Mozambique Drill" - Two to the body, one to the head? Is that practical? Is it useful? Why is the Balance of Speed and Precision drill a better option? If you are interested in firearms training for defensive use, this is an important topic for you. In the Politics Segment, Rob discusses how can you best represent fellow gun owners following a mass shooting incident. Rob explores this challenging and often emotional discussion with an approach when discussing the balance between gun restrictions and the Second Amendment rights. Additionally in the first podcast segment on politics, Rob discusses the proposed Denver City Council ban on the procession of unserialized firearms. What is Intuitive Training Concept? He also touches on how competitive shooting is not actually the best practice for those most interested in improving defensive shooting skills. What is an unserialized firearm? Riding Shotgun With Charlie#063 Rob PincusInstructor, Author, Activist When I started Riding Shotgun, I had no idea what it could turn in to or the journey it would be. I do remember thinking of the names in the firearm industry that I knew of, and Rob Pincus was one of the people I imagined having on the stagecoach. It’s a great honor to have him in the passenger seat. During the past year or so, I posted some interviews with others and he commented that he wanted to be on the show. When I posted that I was going to be doing shows in Phoenix at GPRC, he messaged me and asked if I had a seat for him. Of course I do! We were fresh off GRPC, finishing just an hour before the interview. Rob says we share something similar. I was Blogger of the Year at GRPC and I don’t have a ‘blog”. And he was NSSF Range of the Year and he didn’t have a range anymore. Rob shares how he started shooting as a kid, buying his own guns at the age of 10. He gives us some history about Norwich University, the Military University of Vermont, where he attended. After that he did some time in the military and honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant. Not wanting to deal with bureaucracies, he found himself being an entrepreneur and getting into training. He’s also been on Personal Defense TV with Tom Gresham, done a number of training DVDs thru the Second Amendment Foundation and the National Rifle Association since 1995, and Best Defense among others. These all morphed into Personal Defense Network and I.C.E.Training. When he focused on Training development and writing a curriculum, he turned it into Combat Focus Shooting book, then CFS: Evolution, then Defend Yourself, and Counter Ambush. I share with him that there’s a photo of me in his Defend Yourself from when I took the class in 2014. His most recent book is Defensive Shooting Handbook put out thru the USCCA. I’ve considered Rob the “rock n roll” gun instructor. He’s always on the road, crisscrossing the country, teaching courses, speaking at events, doing TV, radio, & podcasts. He’s embraced the ‘nomadic lifestyle’ and said he even had a blog called “Homeless By Choice”, but hasn’t been able to keep that going with everything else he’s doing. Which lead to some dating advice from Rob. You can’t miss that! He does admit that his travel schedule is real! We see his pictures all over the place. In September, he was scheduled to be in Arizona, Florida, New Hampshire, Massachusetts. He was going to the NRA meeting in Alaska, but those were changed to Virginia. But the schedule and traveling really started out by saying “yes” to doing a course anywhere where people want them. Its taken a few years to make it linear and less zigzagging around the country. Finally I asked about how he would bring someone new into firearms and shooting. When asked about getting someone into shooting that is apprehensive, he says simply “don’t do it”. If someone isn’t ready for owning a gun or carrying a gun, then its ok to wait and get more education. Do some reading and get some education and training and “make sure you’re ready”. Favorite quotes: “The government makes it hard to be homeless”“In between marriages... “I’d basically be homeless” “If you’re not ready for it (gun ownership), then you’re not” Here’s what you can find Rob Pincus on social media outlets.
