Those who say “if you remember the 60s, you didn't live them” clearly don't account for Uschi Obermaier. From finding fame as a model to being the last person seen with Peter Green before his mysterious weekend at the High-Fish commune, wild nights with Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones, and traveling the world by van, Uschi truly lived life to the fullest. Just as mysterious as she is controversial, there was no such thing as an obstacle for Uschi! "Rock You Like a Hurricane" Vor allem ein Song wird zum absoluten Durchbruch: "Rock You Like a Hurricane". A hand on the heart interview with Padraig Amond who played underage soccer with Shamrock Rovers at the age of ten. He looks back on heady days where he scored against Tottenham Hotspur in an FA Cup game while the following year with Newport County, he netted the winning penalty against Leicester City in a third round cup tie . Those were wonderful times but there were lows too where he details the reasons which took him away from Hartlepool United. He has always made scoring goals look easy so it was no surprise when Waterford FC heard he wanted to come home, they approached him and he agreed to sign for them. Four matches in, Waterford FC are third in the table and Padraig has scored four goals .
This week, with Johnny's job count at 8 (or is it 7?), we reunited two old friends who met as teenagers with no idea of the journey that lay ahead. Padraig Amond was the hurler under a different name from Carlow with football ambitions. Eoin Doyle was a ‘lunatic' from Dublin with no idea that he could make a living from the game. But both these cats got the cream, one of them scoring versus Man City and the other playing for every club that wasn't in the Premier League. In our weirdest mailbag to date, the electronic telegrams are asking about the Pat Scully bus trip, Super Sundays with Paul Cook, flares of the non-trousered variety, and clock-watching on the pitch. The two lads delve into their formative years, from Crumlin days and Milk Cup adventures in the shadow of Anthony Stokes to learning the game with Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers. There's a £25 million deal, a couple of dumb country fellas and the pros and cons of making it as a latecomer. Late developers may be on topic this week, but after listening to what we've gotten for you in conjunction with Rascals, Future Ticketing and Collar & Cuff, like the crowds so far, we're way ahead of the curve.

This month we head back to one of the rare years before any of us (even Tracey) were born and investigate our favourite songs of 1970. You can expect Prog, Folk, Pop, Reggae, Soul, Jazz, Country, & Metal. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Amon Düül II, Badfinger, Syd Barrett, Black Sabbath, James Brown, Tim Buckley, Vashti Bunyan, Carpenters, Chairmen Of The Board, Dave & Ansell Collins, Miles Davis, Deep Purple, The Doors, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, The Hollies, The Jackson 5, Carole King, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Lee Marvin, Curtis Mayfield, MC5, Pink Floyd, John Sebastian, Simon & Garfunkel, Edwin Starr, The Stooges, Townes Van Zandt, & Scott Walker.Find all songs in alphabetical order here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3rGqXFzmixbgrzW9Q4sugS?si=00848dd580034aedFind our We Dig Music Pollwinners Party playlist (featuring all of the winning songs up until now) here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/45zfDHo8zm6VqrvoEQSt3z?si=Ivt0oMj6SmitimvumYfFrQIf you want to listen to megalength playlists of all the songs we've individually picked since we started doing best of the year episodes, you can listen to Colin's here – https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5x3Vy5Jry2IxG9JNOtabRT?si=HhcVKRCtRhWCK1KucyrDdg Ian's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2H0hnxe6WX50QNQdlfRH5T?si=XmEjnRqISNqDwi30p1uLqA and Tracey's here - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2p3K0n8dKhjHb2nKBSYnKi?si=7a-cyDvSSuugdV1m5md9Nw The playlist of 20 songs from the other two hosts was scored as usual, our favourite song got 20 points, counting down incrementally to our least favourite which got 1 point. The scoring of our own list of 10 is now slightly more complicated in order to give a truer level of points to our own favourites. So rather than them only being able to score as many points as our 10th favourite in the other list, the points in our own list were distributed as follows -1st place - 20 points2nd place - 18 points3rd place – 16 points4th place – 14 points5th place – 12 points6th place – 9 points7th place – 7 points8th place – 5 points9th place – 3 points10th place -1 pointHosts - Ian Clarke, Colin Jackson-Brown & Tracey BGuest starring Helen Jackson-Brown.Playlist compiling/distributing – Helen Jackson-BrownRecorded/Edited/Mixed/Original Music by Colin Jackson-Brown for We Dig PodcastsThanks to Peter Latimer for help with the scoring system.Say hello at www.facebook.com/wedigmusicpcast or tweet us at http://twitter.com/wedigmusicpcast or look at shiny pictures on Instagram at http://instagram.com/wedigmusicpcast Part of the We Made This podcast network. https://twitter.com/wmt_network You can also find all the We Dig Music & Free With This Months Issue episodes at www.wedigpodcasts.com

We interrupt this podcast's regularly scheduled programming for a SPECIAL REPORT:We've made a Krautrock Playlist. The original idea was to have a "song draft": having dug deep enough into Krautrock, we would take turns claiming songs for ourselves. We figured this way we'd learn what each of us likes in particular, and what we like best. What happened is we came up with a list of 44 songs -- FORTY-FOUR -- that generally holds together not just as a cohesive cross-section of the genre (with apologies to Popol Vuh), but also as one hell of a mix to queue up on Spotify.Did we hit all the good stuff? Hell, no, and we know we have much more to learn and explore. But we made a good start. Some stats, for those who are interested:Song counts by artist: Can (7!), Kraftwerk (5), Neu! (5), Faust (4), Harmonia (4), La Düsseldorf (4), Amon Düül II (2), Cluster (2), Guru Guru (2), Moebius + Plank (2), Agitation Free (1), Amon Düül (1), Ash Ra Tempel (1), Brainticket (1), Holger Czukay (1), Tangerine Dream (1), Xhol Caravan (1).Song counts by credited musicians: Klaus Dinger (11), Holger Czukay (10), Michael Rother (10), Dieter Moebius (8), Hans-Joachim Roedelius (6).

The Plan - make a mix for every year of the 70s, featuring electronic music from each year. Easy peasy! Well, not exactly. The early years are a bit tough. Electronic music wasn't really a genre yet. There are definitely electronic albums. But enough to fill an hour-long mix? Maybe...sort of. So let me start by saying that some folks may disagree with my choices as I tried to fill out the tracklist. There may be some creative finagling in the mixes for the early years. But really, who cares? This is just a fun way to dive deep into the rise of electronic music. In the early sets you'll hear plenty of krautrock or kosmische music. Bands like Popol Vuh, Amon Duul II, Can, and Ash Ra Temple fit that category and make appearances in the first two mixes. Again, some folks may balk at the inclusion of the artists but without them, the '70 & '71 mixes would not have happened. Even Tangerine Dream in these years is barely "electronic." I discovered an artist named Doug McKechnie who experimented with one of the few Moog synths around at that time. I don't believe he ever released any music back then but there are recordings from many of his live shows. The albums were released in 2020 & 2023, so technically this shouldn't count in a mix of music released in 1970, but as I said, it was hard to fill out the mix. The tracks were recorded from 1968 - 72 so I grabbed one that didn't have a specific date on it and decided that it would count as being from 1970. The more I listen to this set the more I like it.

Grief can be more horrific then we give it credit for...On this episode we get the pleasure of diving into a very unique one woman project in 'Faye' which is on VOD platforms now...Still grieving the loss of her husband, self-help author, Faye, retreats to a cabin in Louisiana to gather her thoughts and work on her book. But her trip becomes harrowing when she is haunted by something far more sinister than her past.A truly ambitious and terrifying character study that dives into the ideas of grief which may also be the first ever one woman film produced in the USA, we had the pleasure of sitting down with co-writer/director Kd Amond and co-writer/star Sarah Zanotti about the origins of the story and so very much more...
We sit down with Kd Amond and Sarah Zanotti to talk about their new film, FAYE. Faye L. Ryan is a successful personal growth author mourning the loss of her husband. She retreats to a cabin on the bayou to finish her next book only to find that more than just her past will haunt her.DirectorKd AmondWritersKd Amond | Sarah ZanottiSupport the show

This week we welcome first-time caller, long-time listener, Padraig Amond, who made the trip from Carlow to Exeter and he tells us about life in league one with The Grecians, getting papped at a Florida airport and how he might not be playing at Galway United next season. Johnny talks to Stephen Bradley about quadruple substitutions in an effort to manoeuvre around a large bleached mastodon that may have been in the room at the time before chatting to Liam Buckley about how good or otherwise the pitch was. Music this week comes from Dr Alban, Haddaway, Picotto and the Shels supporters. There's a birth name reveal and how a Duncan became a Bob, Johnny gets his suit stretched out a bit, and the boys lose touch with the kids. As usual we have to thank Future Ticketing, Collar and Cuff and The Porterhouse for allowing us to create more tangents than a Raymond Chandler novel. I'll stop talking now and let the rest of it float in the air.
