Can the perfect family facade hide a deadly secret lurking beneath? This episode uncovers the twisted tale of the Yoder family, where chiropractic care blends with covert operations, and an American Dream spirals into a haunting nightmare. Join us as we explore the complex web of relationships that trap the Yoders: Mary and Bill's seemingly ideal life, their children's divergent paths and the shadow cast by Adam's mercurial girlfriend, Katie. With the unexpected illness of Adam and the tragic demise of Mary, we stitch together the chilling events that suggest this was no ordinary family drama.Grab your Mimosa, but don't let its sweetness fool you—this story has a bitter aftertaste. The plot thickens with a mysterious illness linked to a supplement, an anonymous letter dripping with accusation, and a toxic love that poisons more than just hearts. We wade through the murky waters of a murder investigation, questioning the innocence of those closest to Mary and revealing the unsettling rapid romance between Bill and his sister-in-law. Every clue, from secret emails to lethal toxins, pulls us deeper into a narrative where Taylor Swift's "Haunted" seems less like a song and more like a prophecy. No guest could prepare you for the revelations in store, as we parse the evidence and lay bare the truth of the Yoders' fateful tale.Check out the other episodes in this collaboration here: Santa Maybe, a Criminal on Apple PodcastsSources:We Thought We Knew You: A Terrifying True Story of Secrets, Betrayal, Deception, and Murder Hardcover – December 29, 2020by M. Joining Jayson today is Jason Usry, the creator, the producer, writer and head elf of the true crime, satire podcast Santa Maybe, a Criminal Jason has been an audio producer for more than half a dozen popular podcasts including several popular true crime podcasts. Jason grew up in a small town in Georgia where he learned the power of writing to help heal and entertain people. After watching the movie, The Titanic, Jason wrote his first screenplay and probably his second and many more. Jason was a screenwriter on the 2019 thriller Dead Water, starring Casper Van Dean and Judd Nelson as well as the 2018 film Running for my Roots. He has also had two films and post-production, but perhaps Jason's most creative innovation was to turn the true crime world into a place of laughter, kindness and joy through the Santa Maybe, a Criminal podcast.Jason says that his podcast was born out of a love for true crime storytelling and satire. But if I had to venture a guess, it really came out of a love for people. Jason also works at a television station in Savannah, Georgia during his days. He helps lead a creative team focused on marketing the station. During his nights and weekends he continues to write screenplays and produce his podcast. He also edits popular podcasts like the Prosecutors Podcast. For someone in the true crime community, what stands out about Jason and his writing are his empathy. Today we're going to talk about writing. Daisy Mae Heath disappeared from the Yakima Reservation in White Swan, WA. Daisy was no stranger to the woods as she often spent time hiking, camping, hunting, and visiting other reservations. This is why her family didn't immediately panic when she didn't return home. But soon, it was clear that something was wrong. This case, with zero suspects, is one of many stories of missing and murdered indigenous women across the United States.
