Did you know that there are show choir blogs? Neither did we. In S5E11, "City of Angels," we follow New Directions to Nationals of… whatever year this is in canon…to Los Angeles. Mr. Schue recruits Sam to be the New Finn (not to be confused with Blaine, who we all know to be the New Rachel), tasked with keeping up spirit and enthusiasm. The Hudson-Hummel clan is out in full force with the series' best parents, Burt and Carole, coming along for the ride and finally processing some long-overdue trauma.Seemingly everyone starts to think about what they'll be doing after graduation (even the ones who aren't graduating), Marley gets some advice from Mercedes, and Blaine gets hit on by his new midgame (wait, did we say that?).Join us as we journey through Finn's favorite songs and learn the fate of the Glee Club.Find us on the Internet: https://linktr.ee/fandomontherocksSupport the pod: Patreon.com/fandomontherocksInterested in how we do it?
Sarah Drew can do it all! TV viewers know her as Dr. April Kepner on the hit series Grey's Anatomy, but Gleeks know her from her iconic role on Glee!Yes, Suzy Pepper is on the pod! She was only in one episode, but she left her mark. Sarah joins Jenna and Kevin to talk about her time on the show, including how she got the role, the (perfect) song she wishes she could have sung to Mr. Schue, some of the other unhinged characters she's played before, and the time Grey's did a musical episode! Plus, the musical Sarah wrote when she was 11 about two outcast girls that the duo thinks she needs to produce asap, and the fun she is having on her new series, Mistletoe Murders, on Hallmark+.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Mystery solved! Jenna and Kevin unmask the fan behind the popular Glee meme account on X, "Terri Schuester Updates!" Meet Sebastian Whittaker, who started to watch the show when he was just nine, and it blew him away! He reveals how and why he began his Glee account, why he chose Terri Schuester out of all the characters, how he felt the first time "Terri" herself, Jessalyn Gilsig, discovered his account, and his fun idea for a 'Gleeboot' involving Ru Paul as the new Mr. Schuester! Plus, Sebastian turns the tables on Kevin and Jenna! He's got burning questions that need answers, like whether they found Mr. Schue creepy back then and the song he needs Kevin to perform at his funeral!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week on Glee on the Rocks we're parsing one of the greatest questions of human history: are you a Katy or are you a Gaga? This is S5E4, "A Katy or a Gaga." Nationals is looming and the latest competition, Throat Explosion, are stepping on the New Directions' niche of being "outsiders." Instead of dividing the New Directions into boys and girls for this week's Glee Club lesson, Mr. Schue opts to separate them into "Katy Perrys" and "Lady Gagas" in order to push them out of their comfort zones. It makes sense in the episode...kind of. Over in New York, Kurt Hummel is on a mission to get our of his own comfort zone and cross an item off his NYC bucket list by starting a band. Something he definitely has time for between work and classes. But the will the unforgettable and wildly talented Starchild (aka Adam Lambert) be too much for Kurt's ego to handle? Also there's relationship drama, because of course there is. So, are you a Katy or a Gaga? Or do you refuse to fit into the pop girl binary? The Glee Club is "so emotional" over the loss of Whitney Houston and getting ready to say goodbye to their high school years, so leave it to Mr. Schue to assign a project. That's right, it's an electrifying tribute to the legendary Whitney Houston, and it starts strong with the opening performance of "How Will I Know" … a goose-bump-inducing number which leads Kevin and Jenna to wonder why Amber didn't get any solos this episode. Plus, the song Kevin hated doing at the time, the scoop on the scene added to perhaps squash off-camera rumors, and the song they only had minutes to learn before shooting, so they hid the lyrics behind Jenna's back. Literally! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The band is back together! The New Directions' own guitarist and drummer, Derik Nelson and John Lock, are back on the pod - but this time they're weighing in on Glacket decisions together! It's happening! Mr. Schue is on the pod!!! Yes, Matthew Morrison joins Jenna and Kevin to talk all about the highs and lows of working on Glee! We learn who he flirted with during his audition (it worked!), why he felt he let the cast down, his relationship with Jane Lynch, and reliving a raw moment in time … Matthew gets emotional talking about the pressures of fame, the stress of their crazy work schedule, and dealing with all the hate his character was getting. Plus, who he misses the most from the cast, his favorite guest star, and a surprising revelation … He spills all the tea! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Happy 2024, Gleeks! Is everyone staying warm out there? For the new year we've got a new episode of Glee on the Rocks, and this one features Allison, our co-host of Pack Dynamics. And if you know anything about PD, you know we talk. So enjoy this extra-long episode. This is 4x20, "Lights Out." A power outage at McKinley High inspires Mr. Schue and Finn to encourage the New Directions to "unplug" and go back to the basics by performing a set of acoustic numbers. Ryder continues to try and figure out who the mysterious Katie is. Meanwhile, in New York City, our beloved Isabelle Wright asks Kurt to volunteer at a Vogue.com charity event. We're approaching season 5 of Glee, can you believe? This is 4x16, "Feud." Close your eyes. Take it back to the early 2000s. The time of the great music feuds. *Nsync vs. BSB. Britney vs. Christina. Madonna vs. Elton John?? We guess this was a feud. And now, Finn Hudson vs. Will Schuester. Tensions are still raging between Finn and Mr. Schue, so The New Directions force them into a lesson about famous music feuds in order to sing out their feelings. Sue tries to bring Blaine back to the Cheerios, while Jake and Marley's relationship hit the rocks. Over in New York, Santana uncovers Brody's side job. Our wonderful sound engineer is Adriana. «Vo Luzärn uf Wäggis zue – brucht me weder Strümpf no Schue».

Lena and Ian talk about the logistics of Sectionals, or lack thereof, the disappearing and reappearing setlist, and Mr. Schue's sick burns.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/recoveringgleek/support
Lena and Ian gag (literally, so be warned⚠️ ) as Mr. Schue tries to get his groove back and further proves why he should not be alone with children in the process. Plus Mercedes has a crush on Kurt and the Unholy Trinity tries to sabotage the Glee Club from the inside. Unfortunately this quality B Plot takes a backseat as Lena and Ian try to unsee the horror that is the Acafellas and William Schuester's fedora.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/recoveringgleek/support
Gleeks assemble! Artie and Tina are in the building! And they are here to give us the real tea on what it was like filming the gayest show of all time: Glee. This on-screen couple remains best friends even without Mr. Schue's acapella safe space. We talk about the problematic aspects of the show we didn't notice until right now, including but not limited to making Jenna perform Gangnam Style, Kevin being in a wheelchair for 6 seasons, and Mr. Schue performing weekly sexy songs with a group of nerdy freshmen. Wowee… Anyway… All seasons streaming now on Netflix in case you lesbians miss Brittana. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
CWs: Mentions of sexual violence (3:06-3:12, 49:02-49:10, and 1:06:53-1:06:57), transphobia (1:02:38-1:03:23), and misogyny throughout. This week, Sam and Hannah tackle Glee's 15th episode, The Power of Madonna. Topics discussed include: "Why is Artie very randomly a misogynist for 5 minutes this week?", "Why does Schue think misogyny is worse than sexism?", and "How much money did Ryan Murphy spend buying the Madonna back catalog?"
