Conditioning slaves to distrust those with black skin who look like them, and to trust only the white slave owner who doesn't. Pitting the old black male against young black male, black male against black female, light skin against dark skin. Ever wonder where that comes from? Does the Willie Lynch Letter involving the making of a slave have relevance to our struggles as African-Americans today? Listen to the letter and decide for yourself.

Instead of dividing the New Directions into boys and girls for this week's Glee Club lesson, Mr. Schue opts to separate them into "Katy Perrys" and "Lady Gagas" in order to push them out of their comfort zones. It makes sense in the episode...kind of. Over in New York, Kurt Hummel is on a mission to get our of his own comfort zone and cross an item off his NYC bucket list by starting a band. Something he definitely has time for between work and classes. But the will the unforgettable and wildly talented Starchild (aka Adam Lambert) be too much for Kurt's ego to handle? How to Use Your Feet to Diagnose Liver Problems—Dr. Berg Explains

In this podcast, we're going to take a look at some of the different foot symptoms you may be experiencing and connect them to the health of your liver. One common sign of liver problems is red and brown spots on the lower leg. These spots are caused by poor circulation and are often seen in people who have diabetes or cirrhosis of the liver. When the liver isn't functioning properly, you may experience bruising and discoloration. You may also notice that the lower leg is swollen and shiny and no longer grows hair. Pitting edema may accompany these symptoms. The good news about liver problems is that the liver is one of the only organs that can completely regenerate itself! Spider veins, whether in the lower leg and foot or anywhere else on the body, signify that the liver can no longer regulate estrogen. Excess estrogen can cause a fatty liver and problems with your bile ducts, which can lead to gallstones. Dry, cracked heels or generally dry feet are symptoms of an omega-3 deficiency. The liver makes bile, which helps you break down and absorb fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients. If you have liver damage, it will be difficult to absorb omega-3 fatty acids. Rarely, dry, cracked heels may be related to a B3 deficiency. Other foot-related symptoms that typically signify liver damage include: •Itchy feet •Fungal infections •Inflammatory conditions like arthritis and plantar fasciitis •Foot odor •Hot/cold feet •Toenail fungus •Fungus between toes DATA: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti... https://journals.lww.com/jewds/fullte... https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/f...

Op PITTING marked the end of 20 years of British military involvement in Afghanistan, fighting against the Taliban following the Al Qaeda attacks in the United States in September 2001. We explore how they prepared their Company in the lead up to likely operations, and speak about their insertion into the country and how the operation progressed. We explore the challenges of the operation from a junior leadership perspective, as well as how intent based leadership (or Mission Command) plays a major factor in fostering responsibility, judgement, adaptability and empowerment of others within the team. Finally, we explore the notion of leading by example, particularly when difficult moral decisions must be made, and the utility of responsible challenge and intelligent disobedience in the face of a dynamic and rapidly changing operational situation.

Maja Voje is a growth strategy expert who has worked with some of the largest tech companies in the world. Through her consulting, she realised that there was a problem holding companies back from product/market fit. Unable to find a playbook to guide companies to the promised land, she decided to research and write one herself. We chatted about the book and some of the themes within it. Episode highlights: 1. 95% of startups will not survive, but you can work together to beat the odds It's not normally a bad product that's the problem. There are a zillion reasons for startup failure, but beating the odds is not a product management or a sales or marketing problem. We have to work cross-functionally, join forces and work together to align the company around success. 2. Product/market fit is more than just delivering value, but being able to build a sustainable business Traditional definitions of product/market fit focus on whether you can deliver value to a specific market segment, but it's important to bring other dimensions into play, such as the most effective business model and people's willingness to pay. You have to capture enough value to build a sustainable business. 3. It's essential to pick a niche, define your ideal customers, and stick to the plan It's really easy for early startup founders to try to go wide and fix everyone's problems, but this is generally a mistake. It's important to maintain discipline, be strategic, and realise that not all opportunities are created equal. You don't have to make a sale at all costs. 4. You're probably not charging enough for your solution, but your customers aren't going to price it for you Founders sometimes fall prey to product imposter syndrome, where they fail to extract fair value from their customers because they're not sure the product is good enough, or feel bad asking for money. We need money! But, don't expect your customers to just tell you a fair price. It's important to do decent pricing research. 5. We can learn a lot from "special ops" thinking Business science has matured over the last couple of hundred years, but there are timeless principles from military strategy that can help us succeed. Pitting small resources against larger competition, being nimble, responding to change and executing fast can help us succeed in a crowded marketplace. Check out "Go-To-Market Strategist" "In Growth and Marketing, we were taught how the “big tech” companies grew to their heights more than a decade ago. They had bigger budgets, teams, and global talent. Markets were less saturated. Customers were more excited about innovation. You need a different playbook for GTM. One that applies to bootstrap startups, clever leaders in innovative companies, and independent innovators. So I went on a journey. I devoted a year of my life to interviewing 54 experts from companies such as: Hubspot, Miro, Figma, Metabase, CXL, and many more to ask them to share their “go to market” advice that will most securely and successfully guide you to product-market fit." Americans today are getting married later in life than their parents or grandparents. As of 2022, the average age at which Americans get married is 28 for women and 30 for men. This is eight years later in life than the average bride and groom of the 1960s.   As many have noted, today's spike in singleness and single-person households is, in part, the result of a widespread cultural erosion of marriage, both inside and outside of the Church. Over the past 60 years, marriage has taken a social and cultural beating thanks to the legalization of no-fault divorce and abortion, the widespread use of birth control, the proliferation of easily accessible hook-up apps, and the casual dominance of pornography. These realities undermine the maturity, self-control, and responsibility required for stable and successful marriages. Whether or not an individual chooses to engage in these practices, they decrease everyone's chances of finding a partner interested in or ready for marriage.  In the wake of this cultural erosion, the Church has had to make necessary and prudential efforts to reinforce marriage and family life as   the God-given norm, reaffirming the goodness of marriage and family life in its teaching, serving as a space for Christians who desire marriage to find a spouse, and offering support and recovery for those fighting the temptations of “free love.” However, in these efforts, the Church has often struggled in its approach to singles. While not intentionally excluding singles, the Church has often failed to intentionally include singles—whether young or old, never married or widows/widowers—and create space for them to participate and serve in the life of the Church apart from the pursuit of marriage. In the process, some churches have even given the impression that singleness is only a problem to be fixed, rather than a calling that some have for part or all of their lives.   Though unusual as a long-term vocation, singleness is a biblical, God-ordained calling within which individuals show God's image and serve Him and His Church with single-minded, self-sacrificial devotion. Scripture presents single people as whole persons who bear the image of God. Unlike other creation stories (like Plato's Timaeus), Genesis 2 does   not present Adam and Eve as half persons made whole by joining in marriage. Rather, Adam was created a complete person who, in his singleness, reveals God's image. When God declares that Adam's aloneness is “not good,” He does not thereby imply that Adam was half of a person. Marriage unites the man and the woman as “one flesh” precisely because both are full persons who bear the image of God. Because singles bear God's image, they are capable of revealing His image in their singleness.   Additionally, through Christ's redemption, singles have a means to devote themselves to Christ and His Kingdom in a way that married people, on account of simple logistics, cannot. Through faithfulness and chastity, Christian singleness—whether temporary or lifelong—also points to the mystical union believers have with Christ. Because of this union, those who are single can be free from the anxieties of this present,   passing age and can focus on the work of God's Kingdom (1 Corinthians 7:32-35). Their joyful, single-minded devotion paints a picture of life in the age to come, an age where we “neither marry nor are given in marriage.”    In affirming the biblical legitimacy of singleness, the Church must avoid swinging too far in the other direction by elevating singleness over and against marriage. Just as being less common doesn't make singleness   abnormal or aberrant, neither does its extraordinariness make it intrinsically holier than marriage. Like the widow and her mite, the married couple with young children honors God. A husband and wife are not more mature by virtue of their marital status. Both singleness and marriage are ways for humans to bear God's image and glorify Him. Both singleness and marriage can be distorted by sin and selfishness.   For a number of reasons, extended singleness is a reality that many, young and old, face today. God is not surprised by this. Rather, He has called his people to live in “such a time as this.” In such a time, the Church has a responsibility not only to recover and uphold the institution of marriage but to graciously help people live out their singleness in self-sacrificial faithfulness. Pitting marriage and singleness against one another, as if one were better or holier than the other, will only lead to incomplete ministry that abandons believers to the strong undertow of cultural brokenness.   This Breakpoint was co-authored by Jared Eckert. This one is been heavily on my mind lately. In a short video we shared on the Christianity Now Facebook page there has been many a conversation where verses were pitted against one another. Basically one person finds a verse that seems to affirm one's belief and then another does the same thing but of the opposite side of the issue and neither stop and think, maybe we need to rethink our conviction. Chelsea and I look at the ruling in the recent Supreme Court ruling on two related cases about affirmative action in college admissions. Before addressing the quarreling between the justices over how to apply the Fourteenth Amendment to college admissions, I give my own opinion that the First Amendment's "freedom of association" should legally allow universities to determine their own admission policies (good or bad) because, like anything else in a free market, there should be no government control or funding. I give examples for how the Fourteenth Amendment could be abused to harm Christian college admission policies. But, given the system we have, we believe the conservative majority interpreted and applied the spirit of the Fourteenth Amendment correctly and historically. The conservative majority argued that the only way to end racial discrimination is actually to end it and seek a color-blind application of the law. If you've ever wondered why Iran sometimes is, sometimes isn't considered part of Asia, this episode has the answer. Because of the revolution in Iran, I really wanted to talk to a woman from the Iranian American diaspora and had the privilege of talking to Women's, Gender & Sexuality studies professor, Dr. Manijeh Moradian. Manijeh talks about how the U.S. - Iran relationship evolved over decades from the ‘50s to the ‘79 revolution, and beyond. She also shares her thoughts on Western involvement and media coverage of the current feminist Iranian revolution, and what the Iranian people really want. GUEST BIO Manijeh Moradian is assistant professor of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Barnard College, Columbia University. Her book, This Flame Within: Iranian Revolutionaries in the United States, was published by Duke University Press in December 2022. She has published widely including in American Quarterly, Journal of Asian American Studies, Scholar & Feminist online, and Women's Studies Quarterly. She is a founding member of the Raha Iranian Feminist Collective and on the editorial board of the Jadaliyya.com Iran Page. Pitting minorities against each other is a common way for oppressors to keep the status quo. Iran distanced itself from Asia to avoid being subjugated by Europe. Instead of always working through our governments, we can think of ways to create solidarity between our local grassroots movements across borders. Asian Americans are Americans too, and our marketability should not be restricted to the Asian diaspora, but rather America at large. Why Are We Letting For-Profit Health Care Kill Us?

Jim Hightower's Radio Lowdown

No one needs another outrage to worry about, but here's one that could literally be your last worry. Our hospitals are killing us. Not that the staffers are going room to room snuffing our patients, of course, but hospital owners and top executives are nonetheless killing thousands of ill Americans entrusted to their care. They are doing by deliberately short-staffing their facilities and shortchanging sick and injured people they're richly paid to serve. At the core of this outrage is a fatal structural flaw in our healthcare system, namely that these are no longer “our” hospitals. Instead of being public or non-profit entities for the Common Good, focused squarely on patients, hospitals today tend to be private operations controlled by corporate profiteers. Pitting patients against profits is no way to run a hospital, for it means money will ultimately rule over health (and over life itself). Ask a nurse. These dedicated professionals are the solid pillars of American health. More than doctors and way more than administrators, nurses make a hospital function, providing the primary care and constant, on-site monitoring that are the essence of an ethical, healthy system. Yet, thousands have already fled the work they love, another third plan to leave this year – and thousands more are going on strike. Why? Because the profit system demands massive staff cuts, leaving way too few nurses to meet the basic needs of patients, causing burnout among nurses… and unnecessary deaths of the people they care for. A damning 2021 study revealed that forcing fewer nurses to tend to an ever-larger caseload effectively killed more than 4,000 New York hospital patients in the previous two years alone. This is Jim Hightower saying… Yet, the corporate powers insist on treating nurses just as a cost to be cut, arguing that hospitals must have “staffing flexibility.” In other words: Cut nurses/Raise profits.

The thing about that is that you need a certain rate of economic growth to keep that system going. If you don't have a certain rate of economic growth, then the whole system collapses." - Robb Wolf   Being Ready For The Unpredictable "There will be a lot of dislocation, a lot of pain, and the people that are going to suffer the most are the people that didn't realize this was an eventuality. They didn't realize there was a possibility of a really rainy day, and maybe a rainy month, or a rainy decade. So they're going to be surprised, and they're going to be bitter, and that's going to make them really ineffective, strap themselves, and lean into the community that they have and help each other. The bright side of that, people will be more networked in the real world. People will care more of each other." - Robb Wolf   Downside Risk Mitigation "There are a lot of folks that are afraid of facing some of these darker realities because of the anxiety they produce just thinking about economic stuff and global upheaval. But a little bit of investment in downside risk mitigation really helps you sleep at night. But then the advice I need, and what I've been realizing, I've been too good at that, I've invested too much in that. I've been preparing too much for the end of the world instead of preparing for a better world." - Robb Wolf   Links From Today's Show  Robb Wolf 103 Wired to Eat - Robb Wolf 357 Robb Wolf | Sacred Cow: The Case for (Better) Meat 403 Robb Wolf | Electrolytes: How Sodium, Potassium & Magnesium Help To Beat Brain Fog Ancestral Health Symposium 071 Food Freedom Forever With Melissa Hartwig Sacred Cow by Diana Rodgers and Robb Wolf Wired to Eat: Turn Off Cravings, Rewire Your Appetite for Weight Loss, and Determine the Foods That Work for You by Robb Wolf The Paleo Solution: The Original Human Diet by Robb Wolf Drink LMNT – Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, with any purchase Gavin Newsom - California's Governor 463 JP Sears | This Is How Media HIJACKS Your Mind: Stop Censoring Yourself & Heal The Tyrant Within Naval Special Warfare Wyoming Carbon Capture facility Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E.
