After a long break, Chris and Brittany return to catch everyone up on the wild last two years working in the film industry. From working on Taylor Sheridan shows like Lioness and Landman, to coordinating practical explosions, filming massive action sequences, and surviving 100-hour work weeks, this episode is a deep dive into the reality of modern filmmaking. Brittany shares stories from working with Pierce Brosnan and Samuel L. Jackson on Unholy Trinity, creating large-scale practical effects for Netflix films, and transitioning fully into the world of special effects. Chris talks about bouncing between indie films and larger productions across Oklahoma and beyond, stepping behind the camera unexpectedly, and rediscovering the passion to direct his own projects again. This is a raw, funny, and honest conversation about: Working on major productions Practical effects vs CGI * Indie filmmaking survival * Hollywood actors on set * Building a career in film * Burnout, creativity, and staying motivated If you love filmmaking, behind-the-scenes stories, practical effects, or indie cinema, this episode is packed with insight and real industry experiences. - Check out our film INBETWEENING (I wrote/directed, they produced), available on streaming right now! #Filmmaking #BehindTheScenes #TaylorSheridan #Lioness #Landman #IndieFilm #MoviePodcast #PracticalEffects #Hollywood #SamuelLJackson #PierceBrosnan #NetflixMovies

In the third week of the Church Unbranded series, Lead Pastor Jason Britt explores one of the most intimate and enduring metaphors for the church found in Scripture: The Bride of Christ. In a culture defined by noise, division, and "hollow philosophies," the church is called to be a people who are deeply united. This message pushes us past our Western consumer mindset—where we "go to" or "attend" church like a gym or a grocery store—and invites us into a love story where we are the beloved people Jesus gave His life for.

People gnawed their tongues in anguish 11 and cursed the God of heaven for their pain and sores. They did not repent of their deeds.12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, to prepare the way for the kings from the east. 13 And I saw, coming out of the mouth of the dragon and out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet, three unclean spirits like frogs. 14 For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) 16 And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.#Revelation #BookofRevelation #BibleStudy #BibleExplained #BiblicalStudies #BibleTeacher #WordOfGod #BiblicalLessons #BibleJournal #BibleReading #BibleStudyCommunity #BibleVerse #prophecy #prophetic #jerusalemWebsite: https://mbchicago.org FOLLOW US Facebook: / mbc.chicago Instagram: / mbc.chicago TikTok: / mbc.chicago Podcasts: Listen on Apple, Spotify & others TO SUPPORT USZelle to: info@mbchicago.orgWebsite: https://mbchicago.org/give Venmo: https://venmo.com/mbchurch DAF Donations: https://every.org/mbc.chicago PayPal: https://paypal.com/donate/?hosted_but...

For you to act. Your law has been broken, but work in us a love for your law that is above gold, even fine gold, that we would consider all your precepts to be right, that we might hate every false way. Father, we thank you for the Psalms. We thank you for this psalm that exalts your word. And we ask that you would use it, even our prayer, to prepare us to hear your word spoken through John
In this opener of our new series, “Church Unbranded,” Lead Pastor Jason Britt introduces a powerful "grounding technique" for the soul. In a world defined by noise pollution, political division, and constant distraction, we often lose sight of the bigness and beauty of what we are a part of. Using the Lord's Prayer as our guide, we discover that the Kingdom of God is not a spiritual metaphor or a "someday" hope—it is a reality happening in the here and now. As citizens of this Kingdom, we are called to be an "outpost of hope" in the middle of a broken world.
What if the foods we were told are “healthy” are actually driving the modern epidemic of obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes? In this episode, Daniel Trevor — citizen scientist and heart attack survivor — breaks down the science behind his book Unholy Trinity and explains how refined carbohydrates, sugar, and industrial seed oils are fueling insulin resistance, metabolic dysfunction, and chronic disease. After suffering a heart attack despite believing he was healthy, Daniel dove deep into peer-reviewed research and uncovered what he believes is the true root cause of modern illness: hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance. In this episode, you'll discover:Why 93% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy and don't know itThe one blood test your doctor almost never orders — but could save your lifeHow big food engineers your food addiction at the molecular levelThe 70-year cholesterol lie that's still driving billions in statin prescriptionsWhy "heart healthy whole grains" may be spiking your blood sugar more than a Snickers barThe silent role of insulin resistance in heart disease, Alzheimer's, cancer, and fatty liver diseaseHow to reverse metabolic disease through diet — without expensive supplements or prescriptionsIf you're concerned about obesity, prediabetes, heart disease, cholesterol, fatty liver, or metabolic health, this conversation will challenge what you think you know. Most chronic diseases don't start with symptoms — they start with silent metabolic dysfunction.Enjoyed this episode? Also: auf geht's ins Warm-Up!

In quite the rare moment, #DeepPurple co-founder #RitchieBlackmore dropped in to take us on an extraordinary journey through rock's royal history: discussing the formation of the “Unholy Trinity of British Hard Rock and Heavy Metal” - (#LedZeppelin, Deep Purple and #BlackSabbath), and the Steve Wilson 2025 remix of Purple's stately #MadeInJapan live album. Blackmore also remembers #OzzyOsbourne who died in July and the legacy of the #MoodyBlues following the death of their bassist #JohnLodge (who appeared on our show earlier this year). “Jack the Riffer” as Ritchie is known, gave us the surprise of a lifetime by dropping in on our interview with his wonderful wife and Blackmore's Night bandmate #CandiceNight as she talked with us about her outstanding new solo album “Sea Glass.”Check out their latest tour dates for the American East Coast at BlackmoresNight.com! The team have unearthed something terrible under the cabbages in the Welcome To Horror allotment, so it's time for “Blood On Satan's Claw”. A film in which Mr Kipling leads exceedingly angry mobs; The Master gets in trouble for playing with his snake in the woods; and Simon Williams receives the worst kind of handjob. Part of the Unholy Trinity of Folk Horror, “Blood on Satan's Claw” is the only one that features the genuinely supernatural. Originally conceived as a kind of anthology, those roots still show, but the decision to make it one tale was the correct one. Combining some of the most picturesque and beautiful imagery with some of the cruelest and horrific events to befall a seemingly innocent community; this is no mere Hammer knock-off. A marvellous script and a cast all bringing their best make for a disturbing glimpse of festering corruption, with our only hope being the intervention of harsh authoritarian powers seemingly as nasty and uncaring as the evil they confront. Watch (or re-watch) to avoid spoilers and join us.
Host Dr. Vera Tarman speaks with Daniel Trevor—entrepreneur-turned “citizen scientist” and author of Unholy Trinity: How Carbs, Sugars, and Oils Make Us Fat, Sick, and Addicted, and How to Escape Their Grip. After a near-fatal heart attack, Daniel dove into medical literature, clinician interviews, and self-tracking. He shares the arguments behind his book, why he believes hyperinsulinemia is a “gateway disease,” how diet patterns may influence cardiometabolic risk and cravings, and the testing he advocates so people can “don't guess—test.” We also discuss controversy in nutrition science, harm-reduction ways to experiment with food choices, and how to navigate mixed messages from experts. About our guest Daniel Trevor has founded high-tech companies, worked in anti-aging projects, and spent 20 years as an actor and musician. His health crisis catalyzed a research journey that informed Unholy Trinity. He now writes and speaks about low-carb/keto to carnivore approaches, lab testing, and lifestyle change. What we cover Daniel's pivot from “Mr. Healthy” to heart-attack survivor and researcher Hyperinsulinemia → insulin resistance → cardiometabolic disease (Daniel's “gateway disease” model) Why some people see a rise in LDL on low-carb diets and what advanced lipoprotein testing (e.g., NMR LipoProfile) may reveal “Lean-mass hyper-responder” profile: high LDL with low triglycerides and high HDL—what it means and why it's debated Coronary artery calcium (CAC) scores, soft vs. calcified plaque, and the “CAC paradox” as Daniel understands it Grains, seed oils, and sugar: Daniel's case for their role in appetite, cravings, and disease risk; critique of popular diet guidance Statins, side effects, and absolute risk/benefit as presented by Daniel (and why shared decision-making matters) Practical, harm-reduction steps: food substitutions, lab work, and building a sustainable plan Where Daniel's thinking intersects—and conflicts—with mainstream guidelines, and how listeners can evaluate claims Key takeaways “Don't guess—test.” Daniel urges listeners to use accessible labs and scans (prioritizing a small set if resources are limited) and to pair results with symptoms and function. Protein and structure can reduce chaos. He advocates prioritizing animal protein, minimizing refined carbs/sugars and seed oils, and making like-for-like swaps to lower cravings. Context matters. Individual responses vary (genetics, meds, comorbidities, history with restriction/addiction). Go slow, track, and use support. Hold nuance. Nutrition science evolves; some claims remain contested. Ian and David unlock a May 2025 time capsule with a review of Angus MacLachlan's small town drama, A Little Prayer! The film had its Midwest premiere at the Chicago Critics Film Festival in May, and recently became available On Demand. In this spoilerific discussion, the guys dig deep into this stunningly shot, beautifully acted story about an elderly father named Bill (David Strathairn) who discovers that his son, David (Will Pullen), is cheating on his wife, Tammy (Jane Levy). Complicating matters is the return of Bill's other daughter, Narcedalia (Dascha Polanco), who has just moved back into the family home with her own kid, as they seek refuge from Narce's criminal husband. There are more twists and turns to this story, which is way more contemplative than this "Springer Show" description might suggest. Ian and David loved a lot about the film, but there are a couple of themes that rubbed one of them the wrong way.Join us for a found-family, issues-hashing good time, and check out A Little Prayer wherever you stream movies--courtesy of Music Box Films!Support Kicking the Seat on Patreon, watch us on YouTube, and follow us at:XLetterboxdInstagramFacebookShow LinksWatch the A Little Prayer (2025) trailer.Plus! It's "Podception Day" at Kicking the Seat, as two podcasters podcast about a podcasting pioneer!Steven Feinartz's documentary, Are We Good?, follows curmudgeonly comic Marc Maron through his early days on the standup scene, his battles with addiction, divorce, and losing the love of his life--all of which he has chronicled for nearly 16 years on his wildly influential show, "WTF with Marc Maron".The podcast is best known for getting high-profile guests (Barack Obama, Paul McCartney, Robin Williams) to open up while sitting in Maron's suburban California garage, but Feinartz digs deeper into his subject's own stories to paint a fuller picture of a guy whose relationship to fame is...complicated.In this spoilerific and (not surprisingly) divided discussion, Ian and David look for the good in Are We Good?, and come out the other side with more questions than answers--chief of which is, "Will non-Maron fans put up with his whining and narcissism for more than ten minutes?"Support Kicking the Seat on Patreon, watch us on YouTube, and follow us at:XLetterboxdInstagramFacebookShow LinksWatch the Are We Good? Ian and David crank things up to eleven with another---Nevermind. Not gonna finish that hackneyed joke. But it feeds right into today's double-feature review of Spinal Tap 2: The End Continues and Megadoc. What do a legacy sequel about a fake British rock band and a documentary about filming one of cinema's most notorious flops have to do with one another? More than you might expect, as we discover in this spoilerific deep dive.Spinal Tap 2 picks up with Nigel, David, and Derek reuniting for one last (contractually obligated) concert. But do they still have "it", and do cameos by legends like Sirs Paul McCartney and Elton John elevate the absurdist mockumentary humor--or simply drag it out?Mike Figgis' Megadoc finds the director chronicling the making-of chaos behind Francis Ford Coppola's Razzie Award-winning retro-futurist drama, Megalopolis. From difficult actors to incomplete ideas to entire departments being wiped out on a whim, the film drags shadowy Hollywood mystique into the daylight (for better and worse).Join us for an examination of two movies that don't quite work--but whose seeds of greatness were trampled on by ego, age, and cynical nostalgia!Support Kicking the Seat on Patreon, watch us on YouTube, and follow us at:XLetterboxdInstagramFacebookShow LinksWatch the Spinal Tap 2 (2025) trailer.Watch the Megadoc (2025) trailer.Keep up with all of David Fowlie's film criticism at Keeping It Reel.Plus! Ian and David aren't too old for this review of Richard Donner's seminal buddy-cop action opus, Lethal Weapon!Mel Gibson and Danny Glover star as Riggs and Murtaugh, two police officers thrown together on a case involving a dead adult film star and her apparent connection to a drug smuggling empire. Riggs has a death wish; Murtaugh wishes his impending retirement would hurry up already. Together, they must survive colorful street thugs, a maniacal henchman played by Gary Busey, and, of course, each other! In this lovingly spoilerific review, the guys compare the theatrical and so-called director's cut of the film (recently released on 4K); look at some of the weird themes running through 80's action movies; and play a fun game of "Six Degrees", tying this film into several other iconic movies from 1987!Show LinksWatch the Lethal Weapon (1987) trailer. You can pick up the recently released 4K version of Lethal Weapon, courtesy of Warner Bros! In 1972, Bernardo Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris pierced the cinema landscape with its gritty and unrelenting portrayal of animalistic sex, grief, and urban malaise.Marlon Brando stars as Paul, a recent middle-aged widower who meets 20-year-old Jeanne (Maria Schneider) while looking for an apartment. The two decide to shack up for three hedonistic days, blocking out the sad concerns of the world outside. The result is a portrait of mutual and self-destruction, helmed by a director so bent on "authenticity" that he permitted an actual assault to take place on his set. This year, co-writer/director Jessica Palud brought us Being Maria, a biopic about Schneider and the aftermath of Last Tango's scandalous shoot/release, with Matt Dillon and Anamaria Vartolomei turning in commendable interpretations of the film's iconic actors. In today's episode, Ian and David examine both films and walk through the various reasons neither come close to being as memorable (or, frankly, as good) as they ought to be--outside the sensationalism inherent in the infamous "butter" scene. They also look at critic Pauline Kael's 1972 New Yorker review and how it brushes right up against contemporary social mores.Show LinksWatch the Being Maria (2025) trailer.Being Maria is now available On Demand and on Blu-ray, courtesy of Kino Lorber.Keep up with all of David Fowlie's film criticism at Keeping It Reel.As mentioned in the show, you can read critic Pauline Kael's 1972 review of Last Tango in Paris.Plus! Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of June 13, 2025. The excellent live-action remake of "How to Train Your Dragon" benefits from strong casting, the iconic musical score remaining largely unchanged, and the incorporation of additional characters. Fans of the animated movie and subsequent streaming series should be pleased. Producer KellieAnn Halvorsen even offers her own review for the live-action film on today’s episode, after Andy finishes his “What to watch?” segment. Also out is "Materialists;” this one is a thoughtful look at relationships and marriage in the modern age, and poor Dakota Johnson, having to choose between Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. And a new Western movie offers a change of pace, with Samuel L. Jackson and Pierce Brosnan starring in "The Unholy Trinity." For streaming, there's also a new film on Apple TV+ called "Echo Valley," starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, but the characters were too unlikable for Andy. But Andy did enjoy the new movie "Deep Cover" over on Prime Video much more, but he didn't get to watch it in time to include it in this segment. The brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing nerdy with a goal to publish a weekly "What to Watch on the Weekend" minisode taken from KSL-TV's Friday segment, and two deep-dives a month on shows, creative works, artists, local events, and other fandom topics.
