Another day, another ailment, as if I wasn't going to open these notes without talking about how they've rebooted Mr. Magoo and to be progressive, made him into a woman and cast Angi in the role. You see, our beloved hostess with the mostest is apparently actually lacking something and that is working eyes. That's right y'all, the bitch is basically blind. As you should know, the only thing holding together this Frankenstein mess is Gorilla Glue and a prayer because she apparently has no time to fill her doctor's appointments (there are too many good documentaries to watch on the couch.) Anyway, the reason they let this ocularly challenged woman onto the streets was she had gotten her nails done yesterday and was walking home. Normally, I'd make a joke about her stumbling because she was drunk but her needing a seeing eye dog and a cane is so much funnier. See, as she was coming down the street, she spotted a man carrying a cute little black puppy in his arms. Easily excited, Angi ran over and went to pet the dog when to her horror she realized that it wasn't a dog at all. For half a second, I almost went the route of that urban legend about the hairless rat but no, the man was not holding a dog. What he actually had wrapped around him was a canvas cross body bag. That's right, this dingdong attempted to pet a man's bag. Obviously, the dude was taken aback as he assumed this deranged older woman was going to rob him. This embarrassment was followed up with a slap in the face when Angi finally got home and was ready for supper (get it, cause she's old.) She ordered soup from a place 2 miles away and while watching the DoorDash app, noticed the driver was looping and going in circles. It took an hour and a half for the driver to arrive across the street and sit outside of a CVS. When he finally turned around and drove to Floptopia, he told her he couldn't find her house and then blamed the construction. The most egregious part though was when he told her "don't forget to tip" as he walked away. Marris suggested she should have just walked to get it but she couldn't because she needed to be home (see: she's lazy.) She was also forced to give him one star instead of zero and also tip ahead so she couldn't give him nothing for bad service. You will be happy to know she did complain to DoorDash and explained her soup being late was totally going to ruin the tour (if you don't get that joke, watch more entertainment news.)

EPISODE SUMMARYThis is a replay of a previously released episode, for Blindness Awareness Month. In this episode, we meet Josh Burch, a 48-year-old man who was born with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. Josh talks about the challenges of growing up blind and shares how he navigates a world built for sighted people with the help of technology and his guide dog, Lou. We also hear more from Josh's stepmother, Julie Burch, and learn how they inspired and learned from each other, and how their relationship has changed over time. Some learning gems from this episode: Don't pet a guide dog, (he or she needs to focus on guiding). Once out of harness, you can pet the dog; iPhones have an option called "VoiceOver" which anyone can use; If you meet a blind person, don't assume they need help, ask first; Do not spoon-feed or coddle people who are blind, they are like sighted people and just need more assistance; Support groups are great like Lighthouses for the Blind; Encourage independence and build confidence; Good manners, awareness of posture and exercise matters; Tough love sometimes requires patience but it beats sympathy. For the visually-minded who prefer to listen and read or for those who need closed captioning, watch the transcript video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIy4DpLWE94RESOURCES:Guiding Eyes for the BlindRehabilitation Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Daytona, FloridaJAWS, Job Access With Speech screen reader toolLighthouses for the Blind - local chapters can be found across the countryiPhone accessibility featuresOptic Nerve Hypoplasia8 Everyday Items Originally Invented for People With DisabilitiesPEOPLE MENTIONED:Anne SullivanFIND AND FOLLOW JOSH: Josh Burch: jburch73@skyrapture.comFIND AND FOLLOW JULIE:Julie's Mindfulness Art Facebook PageJulie's Author Facebook pageJulie's Author WebsiteSubscribe to Julie's mailing list for information about upcoming books, nature, recipes, and life with Josh
Philip lives in regional Victoria with his seeing-eye dog Sally. A few years ago Philip had to get laser surgery on his only eye that had partial sight, and needed help to get to the hospital and back again, so the Royal Flying Doctor Service patient transport service assisted him. This podcast interview is a glimpse into the life of someone who lives independently with a disability (and takes on that challenge with gusto and enthusiasm). Philip has been listening to the Flying Doctor podcast and had reached out to me with questions about Flying Doctor planes to find out if seeing-eye dogs are permitted onboard with their owners (they are). If you want to learn more about Philip you can see his website at https://latrobemusic.com/. ****** Thanks so much for listening to the Flying Doctor Podcast. Sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn , Reynolds Landscaping & Lawncare, Everest Counseling (Farmington, Mo)Helmet, the iconic alternative metal band that emerged from New York City in the late 1980s, stands as a testament to the power of artistic innovation within the realm of heavy music. Founded by frontman and guitarist Page Hamilton, Helmet has left an indelible mark on the landscape of rock and metal with their unique blend of raw aggression, intricate songwriting, and thought-provoking lyrics. The band's journey began in 1989 when they released their debut album, "Strap It On," on the independent label Amphetamine Reptile Records. This album, marked by its deceptively simple yet highly effective riffing, immediately caught the attention of fans and critics alike. Page Hamilton's fractured soloing style and distinct vocal delivery set Helmet apart from the burgeoning alternative music scene, where they stood as a harbinger of a new era in heavy music.Helmet's breakthrough came with their second album, "Meantime," released in 1992 on Interscope Records. This album showcased Hamilton's songwriting prowess and cemented the band's status as a heavy-hitting force in the industry. Tracks like "Unsung" and "In the Meantime" became anthems for a generation, and the album itself achieved Gold certification, signifying its enduring impact. What sets Helmet apart from many of their peers is their dedication to musical intricacy and innovation. Page Hamilton, a trained jazz guitarist with a background in avant-garde music, brought a level of sophistication to their heavy sound that was unparalleled. The band's use of drop-D tuning, unconventional time signatures, and dissonant chords created a sonic landscape that challenged the conventions of heavy music. Songs like "Wilma's Rainbow" and "Rollo" exemplify this complexity, offering listeners a glimpse into the band's commitment to pushing the boundaries of their genre. After releasing two more albums, "Betty" in 1994 and "Aftertaste" in 1997, the original lineup of Helmet disbanded in 1998. However, Page Hamilton's artistic journey was far from over. He continued to explore various musical avenues, collaborating with artists like David Bowie, Caspar Brötzmann, and Wire, among others. This period of exploration allowed him to expand his sonic palette and further solidify his status as a musical innovator. In 2004, Hamilton reformed Helmet with an all-new lineup, releasing several albums, including "Size Matters" (2004), "Monochrome" (2006), "Seeing Eye Dog" (2010), and "Dead To The World" (2016). These albums demonstrated that Helmet's spirit of innovation and uncompromising intensity remained intact, even with a new lineup. In 2023, Helmet announced the release of their ninth studio album, "Left," set to be released on November 10th on earMUSIC. This announcement was accompanied by the "Look Left Tour," taking the band through various regions of North America. It marked their first tour since the pandemic, and fans eagerly anticipated hearing new material from this legendary band.Helmet's journey through the realms of heavy music and artistic innovation has been nothing short of remarkable. Page Hamilton's unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging conventions has led to the creation of music that transcends genres and continues to captivate audiences. Helmet's legacy as pioneers of alternative metal is secure, and their enduring influence on heavy music is a testament to the enduring power of artistic innovation. All equipment used in the making of this video:Shure Sm7b https://amzn.to/3uAMzMAShure Sm58 https://amzn.to/3xlAj4pBoom Arm Desktop Mic Stand https://amzn.to/3rlZtvGMixcast 4 Audio Mixer https:/This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.

What's New in the 303: Paratriathlete Kyle Coon's Christmas Gift, Meet Hugh MORRISTOWN, N.J. – In December, The Seeing Eye passed an important milestone when it paired Kyle Coon of Colorado Springs, Colo. with a 2-year-old black Labrador retriever named Hugh, making them the 18,000th team to graduate from the program since 1929. This milestone is reached as the non-profit approaches its 94th anniversary in January. Kyle Coon and Hugh“How amazing it is to pair Kyle with Hugh, to help guide him on all of the journeys that life takes them on. Just like every team that came before, their partnership was created with careful consideration, and support from countless individuals throughout the community,” said Seeing Eye President & CEO Peggi Howard. “We are so grateful for the graduates who choose our dogs, the puppy raisers and staff who lovingly care for our dogs, and all of the volunteers and donors who came together to play a part in creating 18,000 Seeing Eye partnerships over the last 94 years.” Listen to our podcast with Kyle getting ready for the Paralympics HERE Coon, a 31-year-old triathlete, motivational speaker and author, is a member of the U.S. Paratriathlon Resident Team in Colorado Springs. Hugh is Coon's third Seeing Eye dog. “From the time I was a little kid, I dreamed of being able to cruise around independently with a dog. Now I've been matched with Hugh, my third Seeing Eye Dog, and I can't begin to express how much confidence I have when we're out and about,” said Kyle Coon. “As Team USA athletes we dedicate a certain portion of our lives to being the best in our chosen sport. Hugh is dedicated to making sure we travel smoothly and safely. I'm extremely honored and humbled to be part of the 18,000th match in The Seeing Eye's history, and I can't wait to see what adventures Hugh and I experience together from here on out.” Established in 1929, The Seeing Eye provides specially bred and trained dogs to guide people who are blind. Endurance News: Worldwide survey of fitness trends for 2023 American College of Sports Medicine's Health & Fitness Journal The #1 trend for 2023, as it was for 2022, is wearable technology. Home exercise gyms was #2 for 2022 but has dropped to #13 for 2023. Fitness programs for older adults will make a comeback in 2023, breaking the top 10 at #4. THE SURVEY Every attempt was made to replicate the survey delivery as in the past 17 years. For the 2023 survey, there were 42 possible trends. Top-rated trends from previous years were included in the survey, as were potentially emerging trends identified by the editors of this Journal. The editors represent practitioners from all four sectors of the health and fitness industry (corporate, clinical, community, commercial), as well as from academia. In the survey, potential trends were identified followed by a brief explanation to offer the respondents a few details without inconveniencing them with too much reading, analysis, or interpretation. The survey was designed to be completed in approximately 15 minutes. This survey guides health and fitness programming efforts for 2023 and beyond. The first survey (1), conducted in 2006 (for predictions in 2007), introduced a systematic way to forecast trends. These surveys have been conducted annually since that time (2–16) using the same methodology. Because this is a survey of trends (and not fads), respondents were asked to first make an especially important distinction between a “fad” and a “trend.” Trend: “a general development or change in a situation or in the way that people are behaving” (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/trend). Fad: “a style, activity, or interest that is very popular for a short period of time” (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/fad). Responses were received from almost every continent, including the countries of Australia, Brazil, Barbados, Canada, China, Columbia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Jordan, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Libya, Malawi, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, Vietnam, and the United States, among many others. Demographics of the survey respondents included 58% females (41% males) across a wide variability in ages (Figure 1), with 55% of all respondents having more than 10 years of industry experience (Figure 2) and 29% with more than 20 years of experience. My good friend Brittany Tyrrell shares about God's faithfulness in providing her with her Seeing Eye Dog, Valiant. Brittany has retinitis pigmentosa, a genetic condition that involves a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina, causing progressively worsening eyesight. Trying to get a Seeing Eye Dog in the middle of COVID was not easy, but God used the process to grow Brittany's trust and to show how He truly gives good gifts to His children.
