Everyone has an interesting story to tell. And it's not just in movies, TV shows, or books. You can use the power of story for your marketing. Script consultant, story expert, and best-selling author, Michael Hauge shares his wisdom on how you can create and tell a compelling story that attracts your target audience and ignites the soul and why you should start sharing your truth. Tune in to this new episode of The Conscious Marketer podcast — Screenwriting Principles for Brand Storytelling with Michael Hauge Key points covered in this episode: [00:08:11] What makes a terrible story? Based on Michael's experience as a script reader, a bad story is too complex, has poorly written or absent core elements, no goal, and no conflict to overcome. [00:13:12] Bring out the hero's inner journey. A transformation must happen at the end – whether tangible or abstract. The biggest obstacle to conquer is the fear of taking an emotional risk, letting go of a past identity, and stepping into their true essence. [00:22:13] Choose a goal that your audience cares about. Consider your market and your target audience. Share case studies. Allow them to experience the inner journey through your story. [00:28:10] What makes a story more emotional? Add a conflict and more detail. Immerse your audience in your story by creating an atmosphere. Only share relevant details – especially for your origin story. [00:35:24] Don't shy away from sharing what really happened. Choose that story that tipped you into what you're doing now. Be open about your struggles. [00:45:23] Story is everything. The only way to stand out is to share your truth. The world needs your story! --------------- Michael Hauge works with people who want to change more lives, and make more money, by telling compelling stories. A well-told story can stay in someone's mind for their whole life. As a blogger you want to find the right balance between telling and selling your story. Gee Nonterah from the Create and Prosper Podcast joins Jenny Guy, Mediavine's Senior Director of Marketing, in a conversation about communicating your story in a way that is both relatable and profitable. She offers some great tips for creating a community of superfans that you can start implementing today! Helpful Resources Repurpose Like A Pro: Mediavine On Air Episode 4Gee's YoutubeGee's InstagramGee's WebsiteGee's Podcast https://youtu.be/Ez8zX6gar7U Transcript [MUSIC PLAYING] JENNY GUY: Guys, it is already November. It is November 5, Thursday to be exact, which means that the holiday season is practically upon us, and this dumpster fire of a year is almost over. Can you believe it? This is Teal Talk, and I am your host, Jenny Guy. I'm Mediavine's Director of Marketing. And I have a very important and seasonal question for you. Where do you fall on the Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah scale? Have you already decorated? Are you listening to the music already? Are the Hallmark movies on repeat like they are for some of the Mediavine teams? Say hi to us in the comments. Weigh in. Tell us where you fall, because it is a super important and polarizing topic. I personally am of the opinion that whatever you want to do in 2020 is perfectly valid. If you want to do Christmas before Halloween, yes, do that. If you want St. Patrick's Day in November, fantastic. If it provides you and yours with a modicum of joy this year, I say just go for it. I'm also in favor of normalizing full celebrations for random holidays. So in that spirit, I would like to say, Happy Men Make Dinner Day! Did any one know that was a thing? Because it is. I did research on all the random holidays. Today is Happy Men Make Dinner Day. Yes, it's a thing. We're going to share the link in the comments. It is the first Thursday in November, and there are rules. And to make things more inclusive, I'd like to change it from men to whichever partner doesn't normally cook. And if you normally cook for yourself, order from a locally owned restaurant. I don't know. Just celebrate. Celebrate your life. Have a great Thursday. That's what we're here for. I know I'm celebrating today because, one, we don't have to talk about anything that's happening in our nation for an hour. My guest and I were just talking about that. But I am very much celebrating because my returning guest is the wonderful Gee Nonterah. She shared so much good stuff during your Summer of Live episode on repurposing content. And we kept having to rush through certain topics, and we didn't have time. And we kept saying, we'll talk more about that later. And she was kind enough to come back and talk about the concept of story selling and email marketing, which we will go into more in a second. But hello, Gee! Welcome back. GEE NONTERAH: Hi. I'm so excited to be back. JENNY GUY: I'm so excited to have you because you're awesome. I'm going to read her bio because she is an impressive lady. She is a former registered nurse and medical scientist turned blogger, freelance writer, and YouTube creator. She is the host of The Create and Prosper Show which helps bloggers and writers create amazing content and build profitable businesses. She started My Online Biz Journey in 2014 to chronicle her journey into online business and succeeded in using that blog to attract clients for a social media content creation business. You can find her currently on geenonterah.com where she's passionately helping her audience make a living and build a powerful and authentic personal brand with their writing. When she's not creating amazing content, she likes to watch spy movies. What up? All right, Gee, hello. I'm going to start out with a question for our audience. Tell us,
On this episode of The Big Talk podcast, we're talking about what it really looks like to get out of your own way and passionately follow your calling. We're also exploring how to turn this passion into a business and a personal brand that feels in alignment with you. For this conversation, I am excited to be joined by the amazing Nikki Nash. Nikki is a Hay House author, international speaker, and marketing mentor for women entrepreneurs. As host of the Market Your Genius podcast and founder of the Genius Profit Lab, she equips entrepreneurs and authors with the tools and resources they need to share and profit from their experiences. Known for empowering people to quit making excuses and start going after their dreams, Nikki uses her extensive business and personal development background to help women create a business and a life they're MADLY in love with. We start our conversation talking about the pivots Nikki made early on in her career path, her continual quest for a job that would fulfill her, and when she finally realized that the positions she'd been pursuing couldn't be the source of her fulfillment because they didn't align with her true purpose. She shares how she learned — and is still learning — to get out of her own way as she passionately follows her dreams and inspires others to do the same.
Ever had a teacher that was totally boring and another that was, energetic and inspiring? Well, Dale Roberts is the second experience. He is a best-selling fitness author on Amazon but he is doing something different now. He teaches people how to write and self-publish books that sell. With a position as an activities director for a senior complex with growth potential, he decided to write a book. It brought in a little over $24 upon which he decided to quit his job and write full time. A gutsy move, but he didn't feel panic until he had gone through all his savings. He then consulted a coach. In about six months he was up and running. He kept thinking it was a fluke but it just kept going. His youtube channel got started when he tried to save himself by answering the same question one time in a video rather than a gazillion times individually. It grew into the Youtube channel: “Self Publishing with Dale”. This gentleman has the heart and passion of a servant. He love's connecting people with people and turning competitors into collaborators. If you ever get a chance to talk to him you will find that his passion just oozes out of him. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Bestselling author of Selling Your Story in 60 Seconds, Michael Hauge, is a story and script consultant, author, lecturer, and coach who works with writers, producers, directors and prominent stars to sell their ideas in the cut-throat competitive world of Hollywood. In today’s episode, Michael shares how sales reps can use emotion as the best tool to create the compelling first impressions that capture a prospect’s attention.
Michael Hauge has been one of Hollywood’s top script consultants, story experts, and speakers for more than 30 years. He coaches screenwriters, novelists, filmmakers, professional speakers, internet marketers and corporate leaders, helping transform their stories and their audiences using the principles and methods of Hollywood’s most successful movies. Michael is the author of “Selling Your Story in 60 Seconds” and the new 20th Anniversary Edition of his classic book Writing Screenplays That Sell. He has consulted on films starring – among many others - Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts and Morgan Freeman, and has presented lectures and workshops to more than 70,000 participants worldwide. According to Will Smith, “No one is better than Michael Hauge at finding what is most authentic in every moment of a story.” What does transformation in storytelling mean? Transformation comes through the hero's inner journey -- it's what's going on inside the hero -- it's going from living in fear to living courageously. How does transformation happen to the storyteller? The transformation happens to the hero when they are vulnerable enough to face their fears -- when you're willing to dig into your own fears when telling a story -- you're going to be forced to change along with the hero. Why is the question "why?" so important in storytelling? Fear is rooted in the belief system -- beliefs are always logical but they're never true. How best to connect with Michael: (Virtually) Everything Story conference

Most critical skill you think business owners need to master to be successful "The ability and willingness to incorporate stories in any communication." How to create a good story Identify the hero of the story -- who is the main character? Create a setup -- describe the life the hero was living before the story began Present the hero with opportunity (and create empathy in the process) Put the character in a new situation based on the opportunity Create a clear, visible goal with a clear finish line in the end Create conflict The climax of the story -- paint a picture of what success was like The aftermath -- paint a picture of the new life because of making the journey The three kinds of stories business can tell Autobiographical -- the story about you Case study -- take someone who has benefited from your product or service and talked about how you and your product or service has changed their life The "Wise Man" story -- repeat a story and how you or your audience can learn from their lessons Most influential lessons learned from a mentor "The seat of the pants to the seat of the chair." "Don't get it right, get it written." "You've got to reject rejection." Final Round – “Breaking Down the Recipe for Success” What one strategy or “recipe” would compound into big wins for business owners? I ask myself if whatever I'm going to try sounds like fun -- and if it does, I'll try it. What strategy would you recommend new business owners focus on to best ensure success? Don't be afraid of telling stories Ask yourself where you draw the line -- and then take small steps toward confronting you fear How best to connect with Michael: Website: www.storymastery.com Website: storyformarketers.com You can also find us here: ----- OnwardNation.com -----
