We're going to talk about video marketing for business. Hopefully, this can help enlighten your perspective on the essence of video marketing and the tremendous impact it can create in your business, especially during COVID-19. Part One of ‘Video Marketing for Business’ Tamara Thompson is the CEO of Serious Take Productions, a premium video marketing company. Business owners hire her to visually and emotionally share their stories so they can inspire and establish their authority through media creatively and compellingly in a way that is congruent with their brand. Her clients are in the personal and professional development industry: primarily speakers, coaches, consultants, and agency owners who have built a business around their expertise. They have a proven track record of helping transform the lives of clients. They have produced reputable results. They want help creating videos that help them sell without feeling overly salesy. Also, they want to be positioned as the go-to authority and trusted experts in their field. Some of them may even want practical training on how to create videos, what to say, and how to use video and media to sell more effectively. Her mission is to turn everyday people into Influencers. She helps business owners build a scalable company and become more visible consistently online to attract more clients without having to chase people around or be tech-savvy. “Video marketing is an important part of the business.” — Patrick Allmond (08:31-08:33) Tamara started using a camera at the age of seven. She loves jumping in front of the camera and getting told by her parents, "Tamara, we're trying to record your little brother. Get out of the way!" Growing up, she never even looked at it as a career option. Back then, it was merely deemed a hobby, and she loved making silly videos, just like any other young people out there. She was in the fitness industry for about eight years and discovered that she had more fun filming her friends that were personal trainers. So, that made her decide to go back to film school in her late 20s. She had a mentor who passed away shortly due to lung cancer after she graduated. Upon discovering how good she was when it comes to directing, seeing the overall vision, managing the storyboard, and storytelling, she was challenged to film a documentary and enter it into film festivals which ended up being sold out in film festivals all across Seattle, Washington, and Palm Springs, California. That opened up more doors for her to receive invitations from people who wanted her to be a speaker for their events. It's an inspirational story about simply directing films up to running her own production company that's focused on branded content so that people could share their message congruently online. Part Two of “Video Marketing for Business Most people don't realize how important video marketing is in business. Afraid of being a public persona? You're not alone. Maybe you fear putting something out there because too many people might see it. Or criticize your work. Realize that when we keep playing smaller than we're capable of, we prevent ourselves from living out our mission in life. There is a visionary leader inside each one of us. In this week's episode, Dianne Allen, together with her special guest, Tamara Thompson, talks about the fear of visibility and imposter syndrome. Part One of ‘Fear of Visibility + Imposter Syndrome’ Tamara Thompson is the CEO of Serious Take Productions, a premium video production company. Business owners hire her to visually and emotionally share their stories. They inspire and establish their authority through media creatively and compellingly, in a way that fits their brand. Her clients are in the personal and professional development industry: speakers, coaches, consultants, agency owners that have built a business around their expertise. They have a proven track record of helping transform the lives of clients. They have produced reputable results. They want help creating videos that help them sell without feeling overly salesy. They want to be positioned as the go-to authority and trusted experts in their field. Some of them may even want practical training on how to create videos, what to say, and how to use video and media to sell more effectively. Her mission is to turn everyday people into influencers. She helps business owners build a scalable company and become more visible consistently online to attract more clients without having to chase people around or be tech-savvy. “Storytelling can be used on a grand scale to save lives and inspire a nation.” – Tamara Thompson (11:02-11:08) As you grow up, there are moments when you just feel like your life choices aren't aligned to your true calling. You feel the desire to be seen and heard for who you are. You're probably someone who's been hiding for years when you have so much potential. It's essential to be visible because there are so many people in the world who choose to hide their amazing gifts. But there's another thing: some people, despite the evident success, have a feeling of inadequacy. They want to position themselves differently on social media than the way they are in their everyday practices. Put yourself out there and don't worry about what other people think. At times you may feel like you're an imposter because what you're doing so good at comes so naturally. Part Two of ‘Fear of Visibility + Imposter Syndrome’ You must be able to share things with people, be vulnerable, and strike that genuine connection. Find more people who can truly understand you and resonate with your story. Show them where you've been, how you've gotten where you are today. Show yourself as the expert. If this is something that you're struggling with, start recording a video of yourself. Practice, in general, doesn't make things perfect. But it does create considerable progress. If you want to get better, you have to be willing to step out and take a risk. Think about what you're doing to get where you want to go. Come up with a plan to expand. “Every person has an interesting story to tell.” – Dianne Allen You have an incredible story to share, and don't let anyone or anything get in the way of you believing that. You have to understand that all stories are meant to be heard. Figure out which story throughout your life path is worth sharing to connect with people on a deeper emotional level. But so many fail to utilize the powerful tool of video. Video provides the opportunity for followers to connect and engage on a deeper level. It's your big-ticket to quickly and efficiently acquire more clients for more sales. Tips for Broadcasting Your Authority as an Influencer Be strategic. As sales reps, we all want to know how to turn a ‘No,' to a ‘Maybe,' to a ‘Yes!' Tamara Thompson is the owner of a creative video production company that brings compelling stories and brands to life; from events to influencers to business owners. It is for those who need marketing assistance or who seek to broadcast their authority across different social media platforms. Video is her forte'. She is very passionate about it and has directed several documentaries. Tamara started using a video camera at the age of 7 and followed her dream into film school before launching her own business, Serious Take Productions, in 2012. She is now focused on building her sub-brand, Broadcast your Authority, to help empower more female business owners – from taking the stage, to gaining media exposure, to implementing video that will attract and keep attention. Tamara knows full well that receiving a ‘No' in sales is inevitable. She used to take it personally until she read The Four Agreements, a book which she credits with changing her life. MOVING BEYOND ‘NO' Now, she views ‘no' with a different mindset. That ‘no' can turn into a ‘maybe' and then into a ‘yes' when you have the mentality and are able to think abundantly in order to handle rejection. Taking rejection personally only allows it to spiral out of control into negative feelings about one's abilities. The more positivity flows around you, however, the more you are able to deal with objections. To handle the conversation, you have to be able to listen to why they are saying ‘no.' It is a preemptive process. It is the preemptive way of thinking when entering into any conversation: don't expect a ‘no,' but recognize that it may happen and be prepared. When facing ‘no' as an answer, it is time to discover why the hesitation exists. In this way, you can provide a different solution that caters better to the needs of your clients. As the owner of a professional video company, Tamara knows she has the one-up in many situations simply because, in order to build a relationship with her clients, she needs to know exactly what entices them most and what they need most. As an example, Tamara recalls hosting a ‘sale from the stage event.' It's a selling opportunity to a massive amount of people who are then invited to ask questions and to sign up for video retreats. One woman, in particular, had many questions about her unique situation. Tamara was able to zero in on the specific hesitations of the prospect and cater to her needs as a result. Relating to the prospect and fully trying to understand the reasons behind any hesitation is how Tamara is able to turn a ‘no' into a ‘yes.' LISTENING She doesn't view ‘no' as a rejection or a lack of interest but rather as a call for more information. A weak seller might give up but a great seller will try to be helpful, to relate, and to listen. When you truly care about the people you are working with and for and want to build a relationship with them, it is easier to steer conversations toward ‘yes.' Once you understand the struggles and objections, it is easier to respond properly. Tamara is passionate about her business. She is confident that listening and empathy can go a long way in helping sales reps close deals even if they are not particularly passionate about their product. New sellers sometimes don't know what to listen for. Tamara recommends doing research on any person you hope to speak with. Take time to learn their lifestyle and interests and what their brand and business look like. Then tailor your questions accordingly. The right questions – the right amount of interest in what the prospect is already doing – can open them up to tell you more. Find out why they do what they do and where they want to go. Most prospects are passionate about their business and when they are hesitant to make a change, you can hear it in their voice. Once you understand their goals, you can help them past the hesitation. BEING PERSISTENT If a hesitant ‘no' is still the answer, Tamara recommends follow-up. Aim for a ‘maybe' even if it means following-up multiple times, or several months later, because people are busy and can't always respond the first time. Once the prospect realizes that the sales rep is attempting to provide a solution and to help versus just trying to make a sale, it opens doors. Persistence and the ability to listen to the real concerns of any prospect are Tamara's key pieces of advice. Give prospects the opportunity to understand what it will really be like to work with you. #ProspectExperience CLICK TO TWEET The more they can see the value in what you offer, the more ‘no' moves to ‘yes.' “HOW TO TURN A ‘NO,' TO A ‘MAYBE,' TO A ‘YES!'” EPISODE RESOURCES Check out Tamara's video content and learn about upcoming events on the Director Tamara Thompson Facebook page. Copy That Pops: Writing Tips and Psychology Hacks for Business
Fake is the new Real? Check out this week’s quick tip to find out how to embrace faking your skills as you build them up! Check out today’s transcript! The Psychology of “Fake It Til You Make It” as a Public Speaker and Author Some people hear the work ‘fake,’ myself included, and instantly feel a gut reaction that that is bad to do. The last thing I want to be seen as is a fake, a fraud, a scammer. However, paradoxically, we become things by action. We cannot become unless we do. For example...you become an author by writing. You become a speaker by speaking. So, I truly believe that if ‘faking confidence until you build confidence’ works to get you to take action, embrace it and GO! As a personal example, I decided to speak about 10 days ago at the Ultimate Stage Experience put on by Tamara Thompson and Danielle Gomez of Serious Take Productions. I haven’t spoken on a stage in a while so I was feeling nervous and even admittedly had a little crying breakdown with my husband the Sunday before feeling like, “I am going to suck -- I’m not ready -- I’m going to embarrass myself!” No matter how great my photos are on Instagram, sometimes I hit brick walls too and question my abilities. Luckily, I have a great husband and he said, “Laura, I know it’s going to be great.” By the way he said it, I knew it wasn’t just half-hearted platitudes. So I asked, “How do you knooow that though?” And he replied gently, “Because you put your whole heart and brain into EVERYTHING you do, so how could it not be good. You’ll make sure of it.” That external reinforcement was enough to get me back on track and feeling ready to take one step forward the next day, the next, and the next...until Friday when I delivered my talk and actually had the entire room cracking up first, then inspired next. I told them my “Print Your Own Shirt” story that I shared with you podcast listeners back in podcast episode 108. Then, I told them about how I channeled my inner ‘Senior Queen’ and printed my own shirt which read “best selling published author” when I took massive action and wrote and self-published my first book at the end of 2016...that one action that has lead to so many more opportunities, clarity, and confidence that I never expected. Now, I’m telling you about this recent experience from 10 days ago because even though I was feeling nerves and stage fright, I decided to ‘fake it til i make it.’ The more speaking I do, the more comfortable I will be on stage, and the better speaker I will become. But if I just sit in my office googling tips on speaking and never actually do it until I feel “100% ready,” I legitimately will never get to my goal. Speaking of speaking, I am speaking again this coming weekend at the Massive Success Breakthrough event here in San Diego. Shoot me an email if you are in the area and want to come, I have a few free tickets I can get you. Laura@CopyThatPops.com And keep your eye on my Instagram and Facebook accounts...I’ll try to share behind the scenes where you can watch me hopefully more making it than faking it! Haha Now, for you… If you are like me and wanting to do more public speaking, well, go do more public speaking. It’s the only way. Reach out to a local high school, college, Rotary Club, or Toastmasters and get practice with audiences who do not feel as intimidating to you than where you want to end up (say...at SMMW, or Thrive, or T&C...etc). If you are still dreaming of writing a book and becoming an author, well, open up a Google doc or grab a pen and paper and start writing. Start with just brainstorming, idea dumping, journaling if you are still not sure what your book will be about. Action begets action. Do to be. Instead of “Think and Grow Rich,” it could be “Write and Grow Into an Author.” :) Oh, and one last thought on my brain...if you are in the San Diego area...I’m been journaling about putting on a 10 week hands on workshop where only 10 people plus me will meet in person and digitally to make everyone in the group Amazon best selling authors by the end of it. You’ll get your message out, instant credibility, and lots of media attention for your business...all of which will lead to more traffic, sales, and confidence for more. Please email me if you are in the SD area and interested in more details. Laura@CopyThatPops.com is the email again :) But no matter what you are working on to move your business forward, remember that it’s okay to sometimes “fake it until you make it!” Read More:Shownotes for 111: The Psychology of “Fake It Til You Make It” as a Public Speaker and Author - Quick Tip

My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who you just cannot find a photo of her not beaming from ear to ear. And it's not a surprise as quite simply to me, it looks like she is having the time of her life. And unusually for most guests who have come on the show, it appears a pretty straight line to where she is today, but of course that probably isn't the case. Back in the day as a young girl, she would run around with a camera and create silly YouTube videos. After family and friends told her that she should pursue a career in video, she went to the Seattle Art Institute to get her degree in Filmmaking. Which she did, and then set off working for several video companies before starting her own rocking and rolling at Serious Take Productions. And cleverly she didn't just use her skills in video to make her success rapid, but the power of connections. Working with the top entrepreneurs across the world to highlight her skills, and of course gain insights into what makes a successful online business. As she says "We're a team of storytellers, cinematographers, editors, and connectors creating impactful videos that evoke emotions. We help established business owners build powerhouse brands through storytelling and compelling videos that attract customers now. We storyboard, shoot, direct, edit and are committed to excellence." And believe me, I started doing the research on today's guest and then ended up watching over two hours of her powerful and insightful videos so she certainly does just what she has set out to do. Inspire. Educate. And love everyday of her life. So does she love everyday of her life, or is there much of her business that she could take or leave but knows its part of the game? And where do people go wrong with their own video creations? Making it all about them instead of the viewer? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Tamara Thompson. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Tamara Thompson such as: Why Tamara has such a high degree of gratitude everyday for the things that she has managed to achieve in her life. Tamara recalls seeing her mothers entrepreneurial ventures as a nine year old, and being shown the true value of the dollar, a lesson she has never forgot. Why it is so important to develop flex time in her life for being with loved ones. A business can seem important, but nowhere near what is waiting to be with you at home. and lastly…. How she now thinks "Man if I had started years before, I could now be on Netflix"....there is never a better time to start something than today.

We’ll also talk about an upcoming event they are showcasing, and much more on episode 212 of Life on Fire! In this episode you’ll hear: Where did the idea for Inspired by 11 come from? (3:50) What is a branding trailer and why is it so effective? (6:35) Simple questions to ask that will clarify your messaging. (10:00) What is their motto at Simple Take Productions? (14:55) And so much more! More About This Show Like so many great entrepreneurial success stories, Serious Take Productions began from a desire to create inspiration for others. Tamara Thompson, the founder of Serious Take Productions, went back to school for filmmaking at The Art Institute after finding a passion for the craft from silly YouTube videos she made! With her education and experience, she wanted to create video that would inspire others. She put together a web series with contestants from American Idol, The X-Factor and The Voice. And she did it for free because she wanted to build connections and help people. But when she struggled to pay her bills, Danielle stepped in and suggested she find a way to pursue her interests while making money. So Tamara took a job as a video production manager for a corporate company, then when feeling as though her creativity wasn’t being expressed, she went to another company. At that company some of her co-workers suggested she watch Shark Tank. She liked it and soon found The Profit with Marcus Lemonis, which she also really liked. The pieces of the puzzle began to come together when Danielle suggested they start working with entrepreneurs. Then the idea for the Inspired by 11 movie came and everything started to click. They interviewed 11 entrepreneurs about their stories, their pain points, their trials and tribulations. You can see the film for free on their web site. At the same time, Serious Take Productions began building their client list and helping entrepreneurs share their stories through the medium of branding trailers. As they explain on this episode, a branding trailer tells an entrepeneur’s story and grabs their message. By collaborating with the entrepreneur, they storyboard the concept out before creating it on video. The result is that when the story is told in the right way, people buy in automatically, without any pushy sales tactics. A branding trailer is not about convincing people to work with you or buy from you, it's about clarifying your brand and authentically sharing your story. Also on this episode, Tamara and Danielle give a few questions you can ask yourself to start that clarification process as well as why they created their event, The Ultimate Stage Experience. They both share something you wouldn’t know about them, including Tamara’s 27 hours in a coma following a hit and run accident. Tune in for that gripping story and much more on episode 212 of Life on Fire!
