In this week's episode, Tamara Thompson shares an insightful and value-packed conversation with Dr. Jeff Spencer, the man behind Cornerman Elite Performance Coaching. In the past 40 years, he has been helping the most prolific achievers of our time from various disciplines tap into their highest potential by changing their habits, strengthening their minds, and giving them the tools to achieve excellence. Here are the key ideas we covered in this episode: ✔️ Playing at the top is a learned behavior. Jeff emphasizes that becoming and living as a champion is not an accident; instead requires deliberate, purposeful, daily actions. ✔️ Learn why Jeff says that video is undoubtedly the medium of the present and the future. ✔️ High performers who are afraid of the camera should get better at it through the process of actually doing it. Jeff built his online presence in 2020 by doing a Facebook Live even if he didn't feel like it and just showed up, and I just did it every single day. "I found that I was good at it, and I liked it. But I had to get beyond the embarrassment of doing it, beyond the 'I'm not sure if I can do this.' The usual questions we ask ourselves in advance when we're afraid of doing something scary and new. And now I can show up and do them without any hesitation. I made peace with the camera." ✔️ Champions utilize video to do some "dress rehearsals" so that you can understand and see yourself as you really are. You may presume yourself to be some way, but if you don't show up and you're not really who you think you are in terms of your presentation, it's probably a good idea if you can improve what you do by actually watching yourself do it. Dr. Jeff Spencer is "The Cornerman Titans Turn To." He has worked with our generation's movers and shakers in the past four decades, from Richard Branson, Tiger Woods, Lance Armstrong, U2, Dave Asprey, and many more. Welcome to the CXR channel, our premier podcast for talent acquisition and talent management listening as the CXR community discusses a wide range of topics focused on attracting, engaging and retaining the best talent. We're glad you're here. Chris Hoyt, CXR 0:17Alright, everybody, welcome to another edition of the CareerXroads podcast in this episode I have, I've got in front of us a recap, we just wrapped up with our first operations meeting of the year. I have two fantastic members from our CXR Community. I'm gonna let you introduce yourselves to Tamieka, why don't you tell us who you are your title and the organization that you work for? Tamieka Jones, AARP 0:40Yes, so I am Tamieka Jones, I work for AARP. And I am one of the directors of talent acquisition with the organization. Chris Hoyt, CXR 0:48Wonderful. Thanks for being on with us. Tamara Thompson, Delta Dental Insurance 0:50And I am Tamara Thompson. I am a senior talent acquisition operations partner here at Delta Dental Insurance. And there is a difference because Delta Dental is a huge name. But our insurance company only has a few states. So when you look at Delta Dental as a whole, we are a big brand. But our company is a smaller entity of itself. Chris Hoyt, CXR 1:14Interesting, love that. So this was our first ops meeting of the year. We had it was full house. We did some exercises, we had some presentations, a little open dialogue in the end. So what was their big takeaway was something that resonated with you amongst the 40 so odd companies that were on? Tamieka Jones, AARP 1:34Yes. So though I will say if you don't mind, I actually my big takeaway was around automation, we're actually getting ready to transition to a new applicant tracking system. And one of the things that I heard around the pre boarding piece of what BASF are doing they're doing is around the technology, we have such a pain point of ensuring that individuals have what they need for day one. So one of the things that I was thinking about when I think about a bot something that can help with the documentation collection, and all of the things that you need to ensure that the candidates have everything they need for day one. That's one of the things I took away as I'm writing that down, we've got to explore that more, because that is a huge pain point for us. And it really impacts what we saw in some of our quality of hire and and that quality, how about candidate new hire satisfaction scores was around onboarding. And so we want to be able to ensure that that's where we have our greatest opportunities. So we want to ensure that we're kind of focusing on that. And so that, you know, being able to incorporate some types of bots in would be great for us and improving our process. Tamara Thompson, Delta Dental Insurance 2:59And to piggyback off what Tamieka just mentioned, one thing that got my HR ears perked up was, you know, you're compliant with these bots and with these, you know, things that they're putting in place, these automation tools that they're putting in place, it is making you 100% compliant, which, to any HR person, you're going to think, really, okay, sign me up, because there is so much legality that goes with our roles, every little thing that we do can be scrutinized and can be up for audit at the end of each year. And so to have something that is really putting your company and your role who you are in compliance, sign me up. Tamieka Jones, AARP 3:45Yes. And another thing on that is when I started to think about what the recruiters complain about the most is around the administrative tasks they have to do. And there's a lot of administrative things that they have to do in order to ensure onboarding is facilitated properly, when really, we don't really own up onboarding. So it's one of those things that we don't even own it, but yet, it's still like if something goes wrong, well guess who they call, talent? You know,

SDN096: Video Marketing For Business with Tamara Thompson If you've been following the previous episodes and live streams of Stop Doing Nothing, you'll notice that all of the content is getting better because of this brilliant woman, Tamara Thompson, my guest for this week's show. We're going to talk about video marketing for business. Hopefully, this can help enlighten your perspective on the essence of video marketing and the tremendous impact it can create in your business, especially during COVID-19. Part One of ‘Video Marketing for Business’ Tamara Thompson is the CEO of Serious Take Productions, a premium video marketing company. Business owners hire her to visually and emotionally share their stories so they can inspire and establish their authority through media creatively and compellingly in a way that is congruent with their brand. Her clients are in the personal and professional development industry: primarily speakers, coaches, consultants, and agency owners who have built a business around their expertise. They have a proven track record of helping transform the lives of clients. They have produced reputable results. They want help creating videos that help them sell without feeling overly salesy. Also, they want to be positioned as the go-to authority and trusted experts in their field. Some of them may even want practical training on how to create videos, what to say, and how to use video and media to sell more effectively. Her mission is to turn everyday people into Influencers. She helps business owners build a scalable company and become more visible consistently online to attract more clients without having to chase people around or be tech-savvy. “Video marketing is an important part of the business.” — Patrick Allmond (08:31-08:33) Tamara started using a camera at the age of seven. She loves jumping in front of the camera and getting told by her parents, "Tamara, we're trying to record your little brother. Get out of the way!" Growing up, she never even looked at it as a career option. Back then, it was merely deemed a hobby, and she loved making silly videos, just like any other young people out there. She was in the fitness industry for about eight years and discovered that she had more fun filming her friends that were personal trainers. So, that made her decide to go back to film school in her late 20s. She had a mentor who passed away shortly due to lung cancer after she graduated. Upon discovering how good she was when it comes to directing, seeing the overall vision, managing the storyboard, and storytelling, she was challenged to film a documentary and enter it into film festivals which ended up being sold out in film festivals all across Seattle, Washington, and Palm Springs, California. That opened up more doors for her to receive invitations from people who wanted her to be a speaker for their events. It's an inspirational story about simply directing films up to running her own production company that's focused on branded content so that people could share their message congruently online. Part Two of “Video Marketing for Business Most people don't realize how important video marketing is in business. How Healthcare Professionals Are Using Video for Awareness In this week's episode, Tamara Thompson talks about how healthcare professionals are using video for awareness, together with her special guest, Melissa Batchelor, PhD, RN, FNP, FGSA, FAAN. Melissa Batchelor earned her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) School of Nursing (SON) in 2000. She enjoyed working with the complex medical needs older adults experienced more than any other population, so after graduation, she started working with a geriatric practice in Wilmington, North Carolina. She worked full-time for five years as FNP in geriatric primary care across many long-term care settings (skilled nursing homes, assisted living, home, and office visits). She transitioned into academic nursing in 2005, joining the faculty at UNCW SON as a lecturer. She has maintained her clinical practice and board certification, while her primary roles have been as a Nurse Scientist and Nurse Educator. Part One of ‘How Healthcare Professionals Are Using Video for Awareness' Lately, a lot of nurses are utilizing Ted Talks and social media to communicate a message of how important it is to stay home and stay safe during this time since they are the ones who are mostly exposed to the coronavirus. Considering that we're losing so many lives due to the COVID-19, people should take things seriously within the media. But unfortunately, some don't understand the importance of social distancing to help prevent the virus spread, how to use a mask properly, how to put gloves on, and many people don't have any knowledge when it comes to national infectious disease emergency plans. And that's where the nurses and health care professionals need to step up and share more valuable information and awareness. The US has the largest segment of the healthcare workforce. If they can utilize social media and use their influence, they can pass on accurate information and continue to reinforce the essential messages from the CDC. You have to be kind of a self-directed learner to educate yourself about what you don't understand. Part Two of ‘How Healthcare Professionals Are Using Video for Awareness' There's an excellent opportunity for leaders in the health care industry to use more PR to reach out to more of the news stations. The news stations are still looking for different creative stories of people that have good lighting within their own space, and the journalists are reporting from home. This particular war is a war of inaction, which is the part the public doesn't understand. And in this situation, the way to take control of it is not to go out. That's the hardest part that people are struggling with. This is a war, but it's not a warlike 1917. This is like a war within our own country, but also within multiple countries at this point. Hopefully, more health care providers continue to put themselves out there in the media, podcasts, and videos just to spread more awareness because people are looking for leadership as well as education. Helping Small Business During A Time of Uncertainty with Amanda Dake Many people want to expand their reach outside of their brick and mortar walls. They're ready to get their message out to the masses. Some people get caught up in not understanding the online space. Right now, we have a much more significant reason to do this. Brick and mortars are closed down for the most part. We're in a time frame with a lot of uncertainty. In this week's episode, Tamara Thompson welcomes Amanda Dakes as her special guest. They talk about serving some of those brick and mortar businesses in terms of switching their revenue online. Part One of ‘How to Bring a Brick & Mortar Business Online During Time of Uncertainty' Since the coronavirus outbreak, have you ever thought of how you can stay relevant? How you can stay in front of people? It's not about making money all the time. It's about the long game ahead of us. Being of service. Once all of this is over, they're going to remember that you were contributing and filling that gap for them. Later, whenever they're ready to make that move financially, they're going to come to you first. “People are looking for leadership as well as expertise right now because they want to continue to thrive.” — Tamara Thompson Now is the perfect time to be seen. Everybody's stuck at home and will probably see your content. Consider asking yourself these questions: How are you spending your time when you're at home? Are you taking advantage of creating video content? Are you doing live streams on Facebook? How can you get that engagement with people? What would you be willing to do for some businesses struggling right now? What kind of questions are people reaching out to you about? Can you go to your audience and ask them what they need help with? These are some of the questions you may need to start thinking about. The list goes on. There are many creative ways to put yourself out there in the media. If you are a business owner that has an idea for an online program or course. Right now is the best time to put that together. What else are you doing? You don't need to offer your services for free just because there's a global crisis. It doesn't mean that people aren't willing to buy and invest in your service. They're looking for leadership as well as expertise right now. They want to continue to thrive. They're looking for experts with programs and services that will help their business. Regardless of what's going on around us, if somebody comes to you for help and they're ready to move forward, then offer them the opportunity to enroll in your programs. Nobody has events right now physically, but there are ways to optimize this virtually. Use your expertise. Figure out how to pivot that into working with the current situation. It doesn't mean you're all of your programs and services behind. Part Two of ‘How to Bring a Brick & Mortar Business Online During Time of Uncertainty' It's really a mindset thing at this point. People are almost giving up on themselves. You could be stuck in your house for six months and just go crazy. Because you're not used to this entrepreneurial life. To give people sanity, it would be helpful if you create online courses, products, membership sites, podcasts, or any content that helps you build your business and authority. It's the people that are consistent right now that are going to be remembered. “This is the best time to help people create content that can be launched in the next thirty days or sooner.” — Tamara Thompson Sometimes, you're just a little too close to what you do, and you're stuck. So, it's really nice to be the catalyst to move them out of that space and encourage them to start thinking differently than others. There's an opportunity right now to put on actual live events. You can invite others to join in. Think about anything that you do in your current business. You could be available online to help keep that momentum. So people can check some of these things off their lists. Maybe you want to offer online membership, course or program. Perhaps you want to launch a lead generation campaign to start capturing email addresses. Perhaps you do want a YouTube channel. Pick one thing and focus on it at least for a week. If you don't have an online presence right now, the sooner you start the process of having an online presence, whatever that looks like for your business, the sooner you can be ahead of the game. You can stay in touch with your client base, offering them services and planning a fun party at your business after this is over. Like, who knows what you could be doing if you already had started that? If you haven't started, now's a perfect time to go ahead and jump in on the online game or create. Small Business Owners & Coronavirus “There's an opportunity for other people to have businesses grow online during this time.” — Tamara Thompson (00:53-00:57) What's been on your mind since the pandemic outbreak occurred? Are you being overly optimistic, going with the flow, or in a state of fear? Maybe you're a coach, consultant, online entrepreneur, digital marketer, content creator, or influencer? Know that there's a significant opportunity for you to put yourself out there. Use social media to offer valuable content. In this week's episode, Tamara Thompson talks about the mindset of business owners during coronavirus. Part One of ‘Mindset for Business Owners During Coronavirus' The world is quarantining themselves at home and on their mobile devices, watching the news. As someone who is in the business world, you have to think about how you can capitalize but also provide value for people by teaching them how to stay positive. You can also help others build their business. Some business owners who got hammered by this pandemic outbreak are hurting. Especially the hospitality and travel industry. They are experiencing a lot of cancellation requests. This is leading to a massive loss in revenue. “Provide value for people who are seeking your advice and leadership.” — Tamara Thompson (05:22-05:26) There are many incentives that you can offer consistently to your current clients. But have you also considered that many people are looking for leaders right now? Why not optimize things that you already provide for people? Afraid of being a public persona? You're not alone. Maybe you fear putting something out there because too many people might see it. Or criticize your work. Realize that when we keep playing smaller than we're capable of, we prevent ourselves from living out our mission in life. There is a visionary leader inside each one of us. In this week's episode, Dianne Allen, together with her special guest, Tamara Thompson, talks about the fear of visibility and imposter syndrome. Part One of ‘Fear of Visibility + Imposter Syndrome’ Tamara Thompson is the CEO of Serious Take Productions, a premium video production company. Business owners hire her to visually and emotionally share their stories. They inspire and establish their authority through media creatively and compellingly, in a way that fits their brand. Her clients are in the personal and professional development industry: speakers, coaches, consultants, agency owners that have built a business around their expertise. They have a proven track record of helping transform the lives of clients. They have produced reputable results. They want help creating videos that help them sell without feeling overly salesy. They want to be positioned as the go-to authority and trusted experts in their field. Some of them may even want practical training on how to create videos, what to say, and how to use video and media to sell more effectively. Her mission is to turn everyday people into influencers. She helps business owners build a scalable company and become more visible consistently online to attract more clients without having to chase people around or be tech-savvy. “Storytelling can be used on a grand scale to save lives and inspire a nation.” – Tamara Thompson (11:02-11:08) As you grow up, there are moments when you just feel like your life choices aren't aligned to your true calling. You feel the desire to be seen and heard for who you are. You're probably someone who's been hiding for years when you have so much potential. It's essential to be visible because there are so many people in the world who choose to hide their amazing gifts. But there's another thing: some people, despite the evident success, have a feeling of inadequacy. They want to position themselves differently on social media than the way they are in their everyday practices. Put yourself out there and don't worry about what other people think. At times you may feel like you're an imposter because what you're doing so good at comes so naturally. Part Two of ‘Fear of Visibility + Imposter Syndrome’ You must be able to share things with people, be vulnerable, and strike that genuine connection. Find more people who can truly understand you and resonate with your story. Show them where you've been, how you've gotten where you are today. Show yourself as the expert. If this is something that you're struggling with, start recording a video of yourself. Practice, in general, doesn't make things perfect. But it does create considerable progress. If you want to get better, you have to be willing to step out and take a risk. Think about what you're doing to get where you want to go. Come up with a plan to expand. “Every person has an interesting story to tell.” – Dianne Allen You have an incredible story to share, and don't let anyone or anything get in the way of you believing that. You have to understand that all stories are meant to be heard. Figure out which story throughout your life path is worth sharing to connect with people on a deeper emotional level. Tara Brown started the business in 2016 with a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised $46,938 to fund the first production run. Brown searched everywhere for a product that would passively dry hair. When she couldn't find one she liked, she invented it. In this week's episode, Tamara Thompson together with her special guest, Tara Brown, talks about “The Sleep Styler” and provides quick tips, tricks, and resources to build your influence online with video marketing. Part One of Shark Tank “The Sleep Styler” Tara Brown's 'The Sleep Styler' is a system that styles and dries hair while you sleep. The heart of the system is a memory foam tube covered in water-absorbing microfiber. The entrepreneur pitched her heatless hair roller encased in a piece of moisture-wicking microfiber fabric, called The Sleep Styler, on ABC's "Shark Tank". Brown asked for $75,000 for 20 percent of her company but snapped up the first offer from the reality series' shark Lori Greiner. The "Queen of QVC" offered her $75,000 for 25 percent of her enterprise. “Positioning on TV news is important in media.” — Tamara Thompson Tara's friend helped her shoot a video, which is something she has never done before. She got a call from the casting agent just one week after her Kickstarter launched. The Kickstarter campaign took a lot of pre-campaign work, and it generated $75,000. Tara isn't a massive fan of social media but admits that it helped her tremendously until she stepped into the tank. Moreover, getting involved in TV shows is vital in media because you always get a bump in sales every single time, even if it's just a forty-five-second segment. It also opened more opportunities for her to be connected with different entrepreneurs who wanted her to mentor them. Part Two of Shark Tank “The Sleep Styler” Today, we see a lot of women using different hairstyle tricks, and Tara's 'Sleep Styler' all started in a fantasy of waking up with her hair already dried and styled. At first, she checked online to see if something like it already existed. She went to the fabric district in LA and tried everything absorbent there. And it turns out of all of the different ones, bamboos, and cotton, the human-made microfiber is the most absorbent. Having thought of the shape, it needed to be; the diameter turned out an inch and a half, which is the right size for a curling iron because it makes a big bombshell curl. She contemplated the kind of strap that won't hurt while sleeping. The whole process taught her how to sew and even made her daughter's Halloween costume. “I thrive off of helping people position themselves as industry leaders.” — Tamara Thompson The product that Tara originally made for herself turned out to be a huge help for other women who probably had the same hair fantasy for years. This goes to show that everyone has the power to help other people get to their next success. Tamara Thompson, as the CEO of Broadcast Your Authority, shares how rewarding it is to be able to help other people in terms of video marketing. 11 Innovative Approaches to Improve Video Marketing “Create a catchy video title that attracts views.” — Tamara Thompson (01:23-01:27) Many business owners are investing in a video marketing strategy because the platform provides an excellent opportunity to connect with your ideal clients. In this week's episode, Tamara Thompson talks about 11 innovative approaches to improve video marketing. Part One of '11 Innovative Approaches to Improve Video Marketing' Before anything else, you must know your audience. Ask your clients why did they come to you in the first place, right? What was the problem that they came to you about, for you to help them? Does your content reflect what your audience needs to watch to do your research? What are prospects researching, and what do they want to learn about? “You need a strategic plan to get your video message across powerfully.” — Tamara Thompson (02:09-02:11) Make sure you have proper video descriptions, and tagging is in alignment, which is super critical. Do more in-depth research from keywords that are trending, what is popular, and not on YouTube and Google. Create a spreadsheet on keywords, phrases, and the amount of traffic searching for that content monthly. Make a list of topics that you would like to create videos on then run it through YouTube. See what the topics auto-generate like healing music, healing scriptures, healing meditation, etc. Look for old videos with high view count to know if it is the right phrase to focus on. Also, be sure to analyze the video itself to see where their content or presentation could be lacking to make yours stronger and more original. Create an intriguing title to make sure your content drives results. The title needs to be just as well-researched as the information it contains. This is the part where almost everyone gets super lazy. Create titles based on keyword research. From there, you can use the titles and to produce compelling and congruent content. It's a process, and if you are hiring a solo videographer, all these steps will likely be missed. Your videos will be missing the critical elements because videographers focus on creative visuals. Find a passionate team, not just about the video but the marketing side as well. Channel the message of the video. Plan out your video messaging strategically. Not everyone is a fantastic talker and can speak off the cusp. Some people write scripts to get the messaging across strategically and powerfully. Make sure to show the benefit, not the feature. So, planning is a critical part of the process. Not only is the research so important, but pre-production is also 85% of the essential part of production in general. List all the different shots that you're needed as a storyboard or a story map. Draw out the simple drawing of any complex shots or transitions. This is optional, but it's helpful at times. Part Two of '11 Innovative Approaches to Improve Video Marketing' Come up with additional creative footage that will make your story pop and come to life. Use video content generated by customers. Ask your favorite customers to be on camera and talk about how your product, service, or experience has benefited them. Film it in a documentary style. Have them feel comfortable doing it without any script. Just prepare them an outline and ask them some questions and provide it for them so they can share their insights honestly. “People who demonstrate passion and energy on camera are more likely to hold a viewer's attention.” — Tamara Thompson (04:49-04:55) What emotions are you trying to evoke? What do you want your audience to feel after watching your videos? Different kinds of emotions resonate with different people on different levels. For example, if you're a business coach for women, you might consider having more of an inspiring content that stimulates joy. Don't be boring. You're the teleprompter. You need to make sure you don't sound boring, or you're robotic. You can overlay creative visuals or additional footage to spice up your speaking portions. People who demonstrate passion and energy on camera are more likely to hold a viewer's attention than being monotone or boring. Always make sure you have a call to action in your teaser or full-length videos. Even Facebook stories, wherever it is, have a call to action. It's so important to tell the viewer what to do next. Strategically map it out and be clear about your offers. If you're doing a video for a low tier product, it doesn't make sense to get the person on a phone call. You might offer them to go to free opt-in because you want to build your list. Where do you want your potential customers to go? Is it a Facebook group? Is it subscribe to YouTube? Whatever that is, whatever is most important to you, make sure you figure that out and send them to your call to action. How To Connect Are you ready to establish your authority with video marketing? How to Grow Your Business Online [Step Into Visibility] “Success requires consistency.” -Tamara Thompson (07:44-07:48) Is growing your online business not growing fast enough? You're not alone. Everyone has that moment of struggle. Success doesn't come overnight. In this week's episode, Tamara Thompson talks about stepping into visibility as you grow your business online. Part One of ‘How to Grow Your Business Online' I'm the owner of a production company that also serves as a marketing agency. I wanted to help people grow their influence and share their stories. I want to help them become more powerful, visible, and confident. It's about people connecting with us on an emotional level. Human connection is so powerful. Success requires consistency. It requires putting yourself out there, putting the right content out there. “Ignore the haters and stop being a perfectionist.” — Tamara Thompson (01:43-01:50) Not everybody's videos go viral. Viral doesn't necessarily mean a million views. It's more about consistency. People have misconceptions. What makes you unique and different? You've got to put yourself out there and think about what's holding you back. Ignore the haters and stop being a perfectionist. Plenty of influencers out there that have built huge followers being themselves. It doesn't necessarily have to be about perfectionism. It's about being consistent and being visible to all these different platforms. That's when you can become successful. Owning a professional video production company, I had to have confidence in my videographers to produce the content. I had to stop being a perfectionist and realize that there were other video content and opportunities out there. Even stock video that that could just be intertwined when we needed it. I had to let go of that sense of perfection. Know where your audience hangs out. Are they on Facebook? Are they on YouTube? Are they on Instagram? Do they check out your stories? If you're getting a lot of traction on Facebook, and you have a Facebook group, sprinkle out some content. Know where they hang out and go after them. If you're working with a specific niche or you're trying to attract a particular target audience, you need to know where they are. Part Two of ‘How to Grow Your Business Online' We need to be authentic. People think authenticity is an overused word, but it's a real word. What kind of results can help people? Be able to share that realness. What's going to attract business is your brand, your personality, and your products. “We need to be authentic.” — Tamara Thompson (04:01-04:02) It's important to know what people are searching for in your industry. Many people online that will do a random Facebook live or create a YouTube video because they think it's fun. There's a strategy behind it. That's why I created a company that has a done-for-you service so we can help our clients, and let them know what types of titles and videos they should be creating for their brand. Find those people that are searching for you online. It's important to have that targeted market research to be shareable, searchable content. You can be found, be seen and be heard. Be real with people. Make sure they understand what you do. They want to know more about you, that that emotional connection. Share some stories with the people so that they can connect with who you are. How To Connect Are you ready to establish your authority with video marketing? Most of what Tamara does involves sharing people’s stories. She believes she is gifted in knowing when someone isn’t sharing enough of the back story. Some people have gone through traumatic experiences, and these are the stories that inspire others. Most of us fear being vulnerable in sharing our past, but telling our stories leads to authenticity and helps others see your WHY. Tamara has become experienced in asking the right questions that will dig deep and reveal the hidden parts of the story. TWEET: I’ve become very purposeful in finding people who are in alignment with my mission. @seriouspro #chasingdreams Manifesting your destiny How much control do you have over your destiny? Tamara says that you have to take action by putting the vision out there in the future and create the action path to get there. Focusing on what you want to be a part of will help you set the intention. Having connections and building relationships are part of the pathway to success. She says to trust your intuition about who you need to connect and collaborate with. We all go further when we connect with others. TWEET: What is it about your story that will resonate with others? @seriouspro #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take: If something gets in your way, find your way around it. As sales reps, we all want to know how to turn a ‘No,' to a ‘Maybe,' to a ‘Yes!' Tamara Thompson is the owner of a creative video production company that brings compelling stories and brands to life; from events to influencers to business owners. It is for those who need marketing assistance or who seek to broadcast their authority across different social media platforms. Video is her forte'. She is very passionate about it and has directed several documentaries. Tamara started using a video camera at the age of 7 and followed her dream into film school before launching her own business, Serious Take Productions, in 2012. She is now focused on building her sub-brand, Broadcast your Authority, to help empower more female business owners – from taking the stage, to gaining media exposure, to implementing video that will attract and keep attention. Tamara knows full well that receiving a ‘No' in sales is inevitable. She used to take it personally until she read The Four Agreements, a book which she credits with changing her life. MOVING BEYOND ‘NO' Now, she views ‘no' with a different mindset. That ‘no' can turn into a ‘maybe' and then into a ‘yes' when you have the mentality and are able to think abundantly in order to handle rejection. Taking rejection personally only allows it to spiral out of control into negative feelings about one's abilities. The more positivity flows around you, however, the more you are able to deal with objections. To handle the conversation, you have to be able to listen to why they are saying ‘no.' It is a preemptive process. It is the preemptive way of thinking when entering into any conversation: don't expect a ‘no,' but recognize that it may happen and be prepared. When facing ‘no' as an answer, it is time to discover why the hesitation exists. In this way, you can provide a different solution that caters better to the needs of your clients. As the owner of a professional video company, Tamara knows she has the one-up in many situations simply because, in order to build a relationship with her clients, she needs to know exactly what entices them most and what they need most. As an example, Tamara recalls hosting a ‘sale from the stage event.' It's a selling opportunity to a massive amount of people who are then invited to ask questions and to sign up for video retreats. One woman, in particular, had many questions about her unique situation. Tamara was able to zero in on the specific hesitations of the prospect and cater to her needs as a result. Relating to the prospect and fully trying to understand the reasons behind any hesitation is how Tamara is able to turn a ‘no' into a ‘yes.' LISTENING She doesn't view ‘no' as a rejection or a lack of interest but rather as a call for more information. A weak seller might give up but a great seller will try to be helpful, to relate, and to listen. When you truly care about the people you are working with and for and want to build a relationship with them, it is easier to steer conversations toward ‘yes.' Once you understand the struggles and objections, it is easier to respond properly. Tamara is passionate about her business. She is confident that listening and empathy can go a long way in helping sales reps close deals even if they are not particularly passionate about their product. New sellers sometimes don't know what to listen for. Tamara recommends doing research on any person you hope to speak with. Take time to learn their lifestyle and interests and what their brand and business look like. Then tailor your questions accordingly. The right questions – the right amount of interest in what the prospect is already doing – can open them up to tell you more. Find out why they do what they do and where they want to go. Most prospects are passionate about their business and when they are hesitant to make a change, you can hear it in their voice. Once you understand their goals, you can help them past the hesitation. BEING PERSISTENT If a hesitant ‘no' is still the answer, Tamara recommends follow-up. Aim for a ‘maybe' even if it means following-up multiple times, or several months later, because people are busy and can't always respond the first time. Once the prospect realizes that the sales rep is attempting to provide a solution and to help versus just trying to make a sale, it opens doors. Persistence and the ability to listen to the real concerns of any prospect are Tamara's key pieces of advice. Give prospects the opportunity to understand what it will really be like to work with you. #ProspectExperience CLICK TO TWEET The more they can see the value in what you offer, the more ‘no' moves to ‘yes.' “HOW TO TURN A ‘NO,' TO A ‘MAYBE,' TO A ‘YES!'” EPISODE RESOURCES Check out Tamara's video content and learn about upcoming events on the Director Tamara Thompson Facebook page. Copy That Pops: Writing Tips and Psychology Hacks for Business
Fake is the new Real? Check out this week’s quick tip to find out how to embrace faking your skills as you build them up! Check out today’s transcript! The Psychology of “Fake It Til You Make It” as a Public Speaker and Author Some people hear the work ‘fake,’ myself included, and instantly feel a gut reaction that that is bad to do. The last thing I want to be seen as is a fake, a fraud, a scammer. However, paradoxically, we become things by action. We cannot become unless we do. For example...you become an author by writing. You become a speaker by speaking. So, I truly believe that if ‘faking confidence until you build confidence’ works to get you to take action, embrace it and GO! As a personal example, I decided to speak about 10 days ago at the Ultimate Stage Experience put on by Tamara Thompson and Danielle Gomez of Serious Take Productions. I haven’t spoken on a stage in a while so I was feeling nervous and even admittedly had a little crying breakdown with my husband the Sunday before feeling like, “I am going to suck -- I’m not ready -- I’m going to embarrass myself!” No matter how great my photos are on Instagram, sometimes I hit brick walls too and question my abilities. Luckily, I have a great husband and he said, “Laura, I know it’s going to be great.” By the way he said it, I knew it wasn’t just half-hearted platitudes. So I asked, “How do you knooow that though?” And he replied gently, “Because you put your whole heart and brain into EVERYTHING you do, so how could it not be good. You’ll make sure of it.” That external reinforcement was enough to get me back on track and feeling ready to take one step forward the next day, the next, and the next...until Friday when I delivered my talk and actually had the entire room cracking up first, then inspired next. I told them my “Print Your Own Shirt” story that I shared with you podcast listeners back in podcast episode 108. Then, I told them about how I channeled my inner ‘Senior Queen’ and printed my own shirt which read “best selling published author” when I took massive action and wrote and self-published my first book at the end of 2016...that one action that has lead to so many more opportunities, clarity, and confidence that I never expected. Now, I’m telling you about this recent experience from 10 days ago because even though I was feeling nerves and stage fright, I decided to ‘fake it til i make it.’ The more speaking I do, the more comfortable I will be on stage, and the better speaker I will become. But if I just sit in my office googling tips on speaking and never actually do it until I feel “100% ready,” I legitimately will never get to my goal. Speaking of speaking, I am speaking again this coming weekend at the Massive Success Breakthrough event here in San Diego. Shoot me an email if you are in the area and want to come, I have a few free tickets I can get you. Laura@CopyThatPops.com And keep your eye on my Instagram and Facebook accounts...I’ll try to share behind the scenes where you can watch me hopefully more making it than faking it! Haha Now, for you… If you are like me and wanting to do more public speaking, well, go do more public speaking. It’s the only way. Reach out to a local high school, college, Rotary Club, or Toastmasters and get practice with audiences who do not feel as intimidating to you than where you want to end up (say...at SMMW, or Thrive, or T&C...etc). If you are still dreaming of writing a book and becoming an author, well, open up a Google doc or grab a pen and paper and start writing. Start with just brainstorming, idea dumping, journaling if you are still not sure what your book will be about. Action begets action. Do to be. Instead of “Think and Grow Rich,” it could be “Write and Grow Into an Author.” :) Oh, and one last thought on my brain...if you are in the San Diego area...I’m been journaling about putting on a 10 week hands on workshop where only 10 people plus me will meet in person and digitally to make everyone in the group Amazon best selling authors by the end of it. You’ll get your message out, instant credibility, and lots of media attention for your business...all of which will lead to more traffic, sales, and confidence for more. Please email me if you are in the SD area and interested in more details. Laura@CopyThatPops.com is the email again :) But no matter what you are working on to move your business forward, remember that it’s okay to sometimes “fake it until you make it!” Read More:Shownotes for 111: The Psychology of “Fake It Til You Make It” as a Public Speaker and Author - Quick Tip

My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a lady who you just cannot find a photo of her not beaming from ear to ear. And it's not a surprise as quite simply to me, it looks like she is having the time of her life. And unusually for most guests who have come on the show, it appears a pretty straight line to where she is today, but of course that probably isn't the case. Back in the day as a young girl, she would run around with a camera and create silly YouTube videos. After family and friends told her that she should pursue a career in video, she went to the Seattle Art Institute to get her degree in Filmmaking. Which she did, and then set off working for several video companies before starting her own rocking and rolling at Serious Take Productions. And cleverly she didn't just use her skills in video to make her success rapid, but the power of connections. Working with the top entrepreneurs across the world to highlight her skills, and of course gain insights into what makes a successful online business. As she says "We're a team of storytellers, cinematographers, editors, and connectors creating impactful videos that evoke emotions. We help established business owners build powerhouse brands through storytelling and compelling videos that attract customers now. We storyboard, shoot, direct, edit and are committed to excellence." And believe me, I started doing the research on today's guest and then ended up watching over two hours of her powerful and insightful videos so she certainly does just what she has set out to do. Inspire. Educate. And love everyday of her life. So does she love everyday of her life, or is there much of her business that she could take or leave but knows its part of the game? And where do people go wrong with their own video creations? Making it all about them instead of the viewer? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Tamara Thompson. Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Tamara Thompson such as: Why Tamara has such a high degree of gratitude everyday for the things that she has managed to achieve in her life. Tamara recalls seeing her mothers entrepreneurial ventures as a nine year old, and being shown the true value of the dollar, a lesson she has never forgot. Why it is so important to develop flex time in her life for being with loved ones. A business can seem important, but nowhere near what is waiting to be with you at home. and lastly…. How she now thinks "Man if I had started years before, I could now be on Netflix"....there is never a better time to start something than today.
Tamara Thompson goes from 6 years of being sober to the founder of Serious Production, a successful video production company helping entrepreneurs and other big companies produce top-notch video content. On this episode Tamara shares her story, without holding back and she also gives us amazing tips on how to reach our goals by being relentless. Quote from Tamara Thompson "Be relentless on everything you do" -Tamara Thompson

Tamara Thompson, the founder of Serious Take Productions, went back to school for filmmaking at The Art Institute after finding a passion for the craft from silly YouTube videos she made! With her education and experience, she wanted to create video that would inspire others. She put together a web series with contestants from American Idol, The X-Factor and The Voice. And she did it for free because she wanted to build connections and help people. But when she struggled to pay her bills, Danielle stepped in and suggested she find a way to pursue her interests while making money. So Tamara took a job as a video production manager for a corporate company, then when feeling as though her creativity wasn’t being expressed, she went to another company. At that company some of her co-workers suggested she watch Shark Tank. She liked it and soon found The Profit with Marcus Lemonis, which she also really liked. The pieces of the puzzle began to come together when Danielle suggested they start working with entrepreneurs. Then the idea for the Inspired by 11 movie came and everything started to click. They interviewed 11 entrepreneurs about their stories, their pain points, their trials and tribulations. You can see the film for free on their web site. At the same time, Serious Take Productions began building their client list and helping entrepreneurs share their stories through the medium of branding trailers. As they explain on this episode, a branding trailer tells an entrepeneur’s story and grabs their message. By collaborating with the entrepreneur, they storyboard the concept out before creating it on video. The result is that when the story is told in the right way, people buy in automatically, without any pushy sales tactics. A branding trailer is not about convincing people to work with you or buy from you, it's about clarifying your brand and authentically sharing your story. Also on this episode, Tamara and Danielle give a few questions you can ask yourself to start that clarification process as well as why they created their event, The Ultimate Stage Experience. They both share something you wouldn’t know about them, including Tamara’s 27 hours in a coma following a hit and run accident.
