Am I doing this to look intelligent, like I'm better than the next man? Am I doing this to feel good about myself or because I have a savior complex? Or am I doing this to lead somebody to the Lord? Am I doing this to win a heart?” —Preston Perry “Let's redefine the win. The win is not getting the person to pray to receive Christ on the spot. The win is just starting a spiritual conversation.” —Paul Worcester “Every heart has a cry. We must ask the right questions to hear it. A lot of times, we don’t hear the cry because we're so busy arguing. I try to ask the right questions so I can hear the cry. And then, once I hear the cry, I can serve.” —Preston Perry “Evangelism is not just going and telling people about your church. Telling people about your church is good marketing, but good evangelism is telling people about Jesus.” —Shane Pruitt “Trusting in the Holy Spirit and being led by the Lord will help us avoid arguments during spiritual conversations. I think we often get into arguments because we are trusting in our own knowledge.” —Preston Perry “We're not talking about Jesus because we're not excited about Him ourselves. The first step to evangelism is sitting at the feet of Jesus.” —Shane Pruitt

It's cool to see young people doing that.” —Shane Pruitt “It's hard to be a Christian on my school team. It's made me a better leader.” —Harper Pruitt “Living on mission is intentionally engaging people with the gospel where you live, work, and play. There's been a high focus on transparency and authenticity as core values for young people, and then we turned this cliche into a core value of the church when it really started in culture.” —Shane Pruitt “Part of what we have to do is teach ourselves and each other is, ‘Okay, when I'm experiencing anxiety, what is really going on? What am I anxious about? Or what is causing this anxiety?'” —Dr. Shannon Thomas “In terms of our relationship with Jesus Christ, we have victory, hope, and a deep sense of wellbeing—to know that no matter what my circumstances are, victory is on the other side of this.” —Dr. Shannon Thomas

In this episode I speak with Scott Pace and Shane Pruitt to discuss their book Calling Out the Called. We explore the current landscape of ministry, the lack of young leaders, and the importance of inviting the next generation to consider a calling to ministry. The conversation delves into the process of discerning a call, the role of mentorship, and the necessity of creating opportunities for young people to serve in the church. Along the way we emphasize that ministry should be fulfilling and that leaders must be mindful of how they discuss the challenges of ministry to encourage rather than deter potential leaders. We also discuss the challenges and joys of ministry, emphasizing the importance of recognizing a calling, the value of bi-vocational opportunities, and the significance of connecting with the next generation. If you are considering a call to ministry or just desire to be part of a church that equips others to serve in vocational ministry, this podcast is a great resource.TakeawaysCalling Out the Called addresses the need for young leaders in ministry. There are more ministry leaders over 65 than under 40.God is still calling people to ministry leadership today. The process of calling involves personal, private, and public affirmation.Serving in ministry can help reveal one's specific calling.Churches need to create on-ramps for aspiring leaders.Every believer has a universal calling to serve.Ministry should be challenging but not miserable. The Holy Spirit works in advance of a calling moment.Leaders must be careful about how they discuss ministry challenges. Difficult situations in ministry are part of the journey.Fulfillment in ministry comes from serving and loving people.Recognizing a call to ministry can happen at any stage of life.Bivocational opportunities are valuable for churches and individuals.Every member of the church has a role in ministry.NextGen ministry focuses on youth and young adults.Building relationships with youth can affirm their calling.Sharing personal stories of calling can inspire others.Mistakes are part of the learning process in ministry.Creating opportunities for aspiring leaders is essential for church growth.Sound Bites"There's a gap in young leaders under 40.""Every believer has a universal calling to ministry.""The call to ministry is a process, not a moment.""We need to create on-ramps for aspiring leaders.""Serving reveals your calling in ministry.""Ministry should not be miserable.""I get paid to study. A lot of times in evangelism, it can very quickly turn into us doing all the talking, but asking questions turns us into listeners, which was the model that Jesus often led with.” – Shane Pruitt “A lot of theological and apologetics questions start at the head, but what you're doing is bringing it down to the heart level and connecting with the person in love. People need to know that we genuinely love them, and love covers a multitude of sins.” – Paul Worcester “When I say the word ‘evangelist,' I would like your name to come to mind, that you're an evangelist. Even though you don’t see yourself that way, you can be yourself and share Christ in a way that syncs up with who God made you to be, and God will use you.” – Lee Strobel “The more we hear ourselves articulate the gospel, the more confident we'll get. They don't shy away from it and have been voting at a higher rate than millennials. Not only do they want to talk about it more, but they’re also more engaged in the entire process.” – Paul Worcester “It's not that the church has gotten more political; politics have gotten more theological and spiritual. We could almost get away with saying the wrong thing theologically or biblically before we could get away with what someone else deems wrong politically.” – Dean Inserra “We make a big mistake when we try to get our churches to think about politics less. I think we just need to think about being salt and light more.” – Dean Inserra “Truly, you're never going to be loving enough if you go and speak out against the sacred creeds of our culture today. Be loving anyways.” – Dean Inserra “What are we going to do on November 6? I’m going to do the same thing I’ve been doing for over 20 years as a believer: pray for the president and preach about the King.” – Shane Pruitt

So, there's a sense of needing to recognize and recalibrate to that lower level of commitment.” — Keith Wieser “It's okay to not be okay, but it ain't okay to stay that way when there's another way. And Jesus is the way.” — Shane Pruitt “I haven't found anything better to help someone overcome that inward focus, that anxiety, than being a part of the movement of God on mission via evangelism, disciple-making, and living on mission.” — Paul Worcester “Non-believers have more clarity related to their spiritual interests. Either I'm interested in spiritual things, or I'm not.” — Keith Wieser

German church hosts worship service featuring Taylor Swift | Todd Coconato Show  Website: www.PastorTodd.org To give and support this ministry: www.ToddCoconato.com/give A centuries-old church in Germany drew more than 1,200 people on Sunday for worship services featuring the music of Taylor Swift. The Church of the Holy Spirit, a famous church in Heidelberg that meets in a 600-year-old building, put on a service titled "Anti-Hero — Taylor Swift Church Service" over the weekend in an effort to draw the interest of young people, according to Deutsche Welle (DW). "The Church of the Holy Spirit has always been a place of encounter and exchange. That's why a pop-music religious service fits so perfectly," Pastor Christof Ellsiepen told the outlet. "With it, we are giving space to the questions and issues that occupy the younger generation." The service focused on the supposedly strong Christian themes in Swift's music that address hot-button issues such as women's rights, racism and gender equality, according to the pastor. Parish Pastor Vincenzo Petracca acknowledged that Swift has taken flak from some Evangelical faith leaders for her music, especially in the United States. "Theologically speaking, she points to the justness of God," Petracca said, adding that Swift's "faith knows doubt and inner-conflict." "For her, faith and action are inseparable," he said. Two Sunday services in the historic church featured Swift's tunes, which DW noted were attended by an audience that skewed young and female. A rainbow banner behind the musicians noted that the church welcomes "all sizes, all [colors], all cultures, all sexes, all beliefs, all religions, all ages, all types, all people." While noting that the church was "built for Gregorian liturgical music and not for Taylor Swift," Petracca maintained that he was moved by the response to the modern, pop-themed service. "I stared into beaming faces — and during the song that Taylor wrote for her cancer-stricken mother, many had tears in their eyes," he said, referring to the song "Soon You'll Get Better." Swift's latest album, released last month, drew criticism from some Christian critics who claimed it features lyrical content that mocks God and Christians. Shane Pruitt, who serves as National Next Gen director for the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board and co-author of Calling Out the Called, urged parents to seriously reconsider allowing their children to listen to Swift's music. "I'm definitely not the minister or parent that has the 'no secular music' stance," Pruitt wrote in a Facebook post. "Also, I fully realize unbelievers are going to act like unbelievers. HOWEVER, there is a difference between being secular and being ANTI-CHRISTIAN." Former Boyzone star Shane Lynch recently accused Swift of implementing hidden satanic rituals in her sold-out shows. “I think when you're looking at a lot of the artists out there, a lot of their stage shows are satanic rituals live in front of 20,000 people without them realizing and recognizing,” Lynch told Ireland's Sunday World. It's Tuesday, April 30th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson TikTok bans around the globe TikTok bans are spreading. India banned the app in 2020. Nepal did so last November as well as Afghanistan and Iran among others. As of last week, the U.S. government moved to ban TikTok within a year unless the app is sold. America has the most TikTok users of any country in the world — estimated to be between 135 and 170 million users.  Trump beating Biden in polls – especially with third party candidates CNN is reporting that Donald Trump is well ahead in the 2024 presidential race. The news agency's recent poll puts the former president ahead 49%-43%.  When third party candidates -- like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., People's Party Cornel West, and Libertarian Dr. Jill Stein -- are put into the mix, Trump is ahead 42% to 33%.  Kennedy is at 16%, West is at 4%, and Stein is at 3%. The same CNN poll found that only 39% of voters see the Biden presidency as a success, while 55% consider the previous Trump presidency a success. American taxpayers send billions to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan Another $61 billion has been assigned in the recent U.S. spending bill for the Ukrainian war against Russia. Thus far, the U.S. has underwritten $72 billion in Ukrainian aid. In addition, the European Union has spent about $107 billion on the war over the last two years. That accounts for about 30 times Ukraine's annual military budget. Israel is also slated to receive $14 billion of the package — a sizable increase from the average of $4 billion per year given to Israel over the last 20 years. Israel's military budget has averaged around $23 billion per year.   The $95 billion foreign aid package, signed by President Biden last week, represents a sizable increase from the $45 billion of foreign aid handed out in 2020. The package is intended to support American allies of Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel against Russia, China, and Hamas. Taylor Swift's new album: explicit, blasphemous, and anti-Christian In pop culture news, Taylor Swift's Tortured Poet's Department album made almost a billion album streams last week, breaking all previous records. That included almost two million vinyl, cassettes, and CD sales. Adele still holds the top spot for most records sold in one week. However, six out of the top fifteen album sales of all time belong to Taylor Swift. The Christian Post notes that 11 of the 31 songs contain an "E" under the album's description listing, which stands for "explicit." Shane Pruitt, the Southern Baptist Next Gen director, was upset that Swift mocks God and Christians. He asked, "As Christians, who are filled with the Spirit, should we be entertained by, sing with, and expose our kids to lyrics that aren't just different than what you believe, but are actually mocking what you believe?" Southern Baptist pastors more conservative than laity There is a major disconnect between Southern Baptist pastors and the laity. That's the conclusion of a Lifeway survey conducted earlier this year.   In fact, 62% of key leaders believe America has become a secular nation, but only 11% of the laity hold that position. In addition, 80% of the leaders surveyed consider themselves conservative, while only 56% of the church attendees would claim the label. And seven times the percentage of the laity would call themselves liberal, as compared to the Southern Baptist pastors.  Catholic and Mainline Protestant pastors more liberal than laity By contrast, research has found that Catholics and mainline Protestant denominations show an opposite trend. For example, 49% of Catholic laity voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 elections, while only 24% of Catholic clergy voted for the Republican candidate. About the same ratios applied to mainline Protestants. Plummeting U.S. fertility rate America's fertility rate fell once more in 2023. It's now well below the replacement rate at 1.62 children per woman in this country, according to the Centers for Disease Control.  That's the lowest level in U.S. history. Not surprisingly, states with slightly higher birth rates are Republican — North Dakota, Nebraska, Louisiana, Utah, and Texas. Lowest birth rates occur in Democrat-controlled states, reports LifeSiteNews.com. We are warned in Deuteronomy 28:15, 18-19 -- “But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God or be careful to do all His commandments and His statutes. … Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.” Guiness World Record-setting pastor for serving 74 years A pastor who held the Guiness Book of World Records for pastoring in the same church the longest has died at 94 years of age.   Since the year 1950, Pastor D.N. Benford Sr. served almost 74 years at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas. Chuck Norris honors his 103-year-old mother And finally, actor and martial arts expert Chuck Norris shared a tribute to his 103-year-old mother this week on WorldNetDaily.com.   She raised three boys as a single mom, and prayed for Chuck his whole life — especially that he wouldn't lose his soul to Hollywood. So, we like to talk about this in Boston. The church isn't just like a family; the church is a family. So, when I think about the local church and its importance, I would encourage it to not first think building—think family. This is something that is a part of the gospel.” – Jon Chasteen “You can't be a solid Christian and not be a part of a local church. That's not a thing.” – Paul Worcester “The way you break down barriers of distrust is you out-love and you out-serve their distrust of you with no strings attached.” – Jon Chasteen “15-year-olds are creating their own brands on social media. 16-year-olds are operating motor vehicles. 17-year-olds are in the workforce. 18-year-olds are serving in the military, holding weapons, protecting our freedoms. College students are starting businesses and nonprofits and living on mission and serving in church plants and all those kinds of things. Meaning this: if they can do those things, they can be the church right now. They can serve now. Will they mess up? Yes. Will they make a mess of things? Probably. Are they going to run late? Most definitely. You know what I mean? All those things, but that’s part of the discipleship process.” – Shane Pruitt
