In this week's episode of the Lead Culture Podcast, Jenni sits down with Peter Ostapko—founder of Kinsman and publisher of Kinsman Journal—to explore the unexpected paths that shape our leadership journeys. Peter shares the formative moments that sparked his vision, from an early encounter with leadership thought-leader Tim Elmore to a decade spent “successfully drowning” in work that looked great on paper but left him searching for meaning.Together, Jenni and Peter unpack the tension leaders feel when they know they're capable, but not yet aligned with their calling. They talk honestly about comparison, courage, identity, and the slow, faithful work of discovering what you're made to do. Peter brings refreshing transparency about leaving a stable banking career to launch a mission-driven publication—not because it was easy, but because it was right. If you've ever wondered whether you're “behind,” questioned your purpose, or felt the pull toward something more meaningful, this conversation will meet you where you are. Peter's story is a reminder that leadership is less about having it all figured out and more about paying attention, staying curious, and taking the next faithful step.Tune in for a grounded, inspiring look at calling, entrepreneurship, and the kind of leadership that grows over decades—not overnight. We need your help to get the LeadCulture podcasts in front of more leaders! Think Gen Z is a headache? Tim Elmore says they're actually the sandpaper your leadership didn't know it needed. One minute they're flying with pixie dust, the next they're struggling with "adulting." That's the Peter Pan paradox. In this episode, we dig into why authority today comes from a bridge, not a badge. Why Gen Z hops jobs like lily pads. And why the secret to keeping them isn't perks, it's relationships and trust. Tim unpacks how to give feedback without crushing them (the A.L.E.G. model), why work might be the cure for the loneliest generation, and how NASA's moonshot is the leadership blueprint we need right now. This isn't about lowering the bar. It's about leading different, listening longer, and coaching more. Gen Z values purpose and flexibility in work, often seeing jobs more like hobbies. With four in five managers reporting difficulty leading Gen Z employees, the question isn't why—it's how. How can leaders close the gap and foster authentic engagement and communication across generations? When employers say “26 is the new 18,” what they're really noticing is Tim Elmore's Peter Pan paradox in action: the age of authority is dropping while the age of maturity is rising. In this energizing conversation, Tim and Ginny decode Gen Z's “magic and tragic”—their native fluency with tech and AI alongside lagging people skills—and offer hopeful, practical ways to coach rather than complain. You'll hear why childlikeness is fading while childishness expands, how social media turned from connection to performance, and why soft skills (read: people skills) will be the ultimate edge in the AI age. Listen for simple, family-ready reps—hosting adults, letting kids own their schedules, building EQ—and workplace plays like great first days, hobby-like projects, and leading with empathy. We also get real about the gig economy, shrinking loyalty ladders, and why teens need margin, movement, mindfulness, and management to protect mental health and grow grit. You'll leave with language that reframes Gen Z from “problem” to “potential,” and with concrete steps for parents, teachers, and team leaders to build self-awareness, social awareness, and emotional regulation in everyday life. Leaders are dealers of hope—start here, share this episode with a friend who's wrestling with Gen Z, and model the future you want your kids to inherit. This episode has a fantastic conversation with Dr. Tim Elmore and explores the nuances and realities in working with Gen Z. Highlighting the importance of understanding individual circumstances rather than making assumptions is one of the key elements Dr. Elmore brings forward. He emphasizes the need for empathy and communication to bridge the gap between different work cultures of the generations. He also says that we need to get curious instead of furious and fascinated instead of frustrated. His new book, The Future Begins with Z: Nine Strategies to Lead Generation Z as They DISRUPT the Workplace is out now! I highly recommend that you go get it because it is full of such great strategies. Takeaways There's a perception that younger generations don't want to work. Generational differences in work ethic can be bridged with empathy. Younger generations may have a different but strong work ethic. Communication is key to understanding work motivations. Assumptions can lead to misunderstandings in the workplace. Recognizing individual challenges can foster better work relationships. Tapping into the passion of younger workers can enhance productivity. Want more info about Emerging Leader Academy? As a school administrator, what is your role in speaking into your students' homes? That's actually a much bigger question than what this talk addresses. Homes matter so much. Perhaps we're tempted to think we can take any student and transform them through a great school experience, but that only reaches so far. As we consider our influence at school and capacity to establish a particular culture, it's important for us to come to grips with the influence of the home. This ought to inspire our gratitude for the good homes and parents from which we benefit as well as prompt us to prayerfully search for ways to care for the troubled homes with which we interact. Ultimately, we offer our work at school to our heavenly Father and trust Him to work through the Spirit to form and establish our students according to his good will. Gerald Miller cares an awful lot about this issue as you are about to hear in this vigorous appeal to take the home's influence seriously. He has taught and administrated for many years at Faith Builders Christian School in northwestern Pennsylvania. He is addressing parents and school leaders here as a parent and a school leader. This is an opportunity to consider important strengths and weaknesses in your own example if you are a parent and an opportunity for anyone to gain insight into the circumstances of the families that you serve. We offer this episode in the hope that God will graciously guide you in responding to any needs that this talk brings to your attention. The purpose of marriage is to bear the image of Christ. Any couple who decides to do marriage God's way can have a loving and lasting marriage. However, God's way of life is counter-cultural. The ways of God often directly oppose the ways of this world. That is why we must not "conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by changing the way we think," (Romans 12:2). Today, Pastor Jared explores what Tim Elmore would call the SCENE of our world. He exposes the lies of our culture concerning marriage and offers God's truth. We pray you are blessed, encouraged, and revived as you listen to today's message.
In this episode of The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast, host Ginny Yurich sits down with leadership expert and bestselling author Tim Elmore to explore a startling reality: today's kids are drowning in information but starving for firsthand experience. As adolescence stretches longer than ever—sometimes into the late 20s—young people are overexposed to knowledge before they're ready but underexposed to real-world challenges until it's too late. Elmore unpacks why this shift is happening and how overprotection, prescriptive parenting, and risk aversion are leaving kids unprepared for adulthood. With decades of experience developing young leaders, Elmore offers solutions for reversing this trend—starting with allowing kids to face real challenges, take meaningful risks, and develop the social and emotional resilience they'll need in life. He explains why protecting kids from discomfort today can lead to greater harm tomorrow and why true preparation means letting them fail, struggle, and grow. This powerful conversation will challenge you to rethink how we guide the next generation toward genuine readiness, not just survival. ** Get your copy of Generation Z Unfiltered here Learn more about Tim Elmore and all he has to offer including the Habitudes here Learn more about Growing Leaders here ** Get your 1000 Hours Outside Really Very Crunchy Tour Tickets here !!
