Sometimes my passion for being in the Word starts to wilt a little bit. Chatting with people who love Jesus and reading his word encourages me to see it in a new light, or inspire me to dig in deeper. I've met with Maggie a couple of times in person at conferences and I'm always inspired by her passion for studying the Bible! I Most of what we have talked about is Bible stuff and fashion (one thing listeners should know is Maggie has an amazing sense of style) But she also lives on a farm, how does what you do on your farm remind you of studying the Bible? I think it would be impossible to dive into this topic without touching on your last stage of life too. How did you meet Gretchen and end up working for Well Watered Women? As this season has shifted, how has studying the Bible changed for you? Or has it? What obstacles do you face in reading or studying the Bible? In your study you give 5 ways to respond to the text you've read (believe, act, repent, worship, pray) Does one of those come more naturally? Does one come less? What have you done to strengthen that area? You can find Gretchen Saffles and Maggie Combs' book "Sweeter Than Honey" or follow Maggie on Instagram You can find Elizabeth writing helpful hints on the blog Helping you love Jesus and disciple your kids on Instagram Or get access to the "Bible Study" by signing up with email! January 8, 2025 Daily Devotion: "The Well-Watered Garden" Isaiah 58:11 New Living Translation 11 The Lord will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden, like an ever-flowing spring. Isaiah 58:11 states, "The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden; like a spring whose waters never fail." This verse speaks profoundly about God's promise of guidance and provision in our lives. In the context of Isaiah 58, the Lord is addressing the people of Israel who are performing rituals without true sincerity. God desires genuine worship that manifests in acts of love, mercy, and justice, particularly towards those in need. When we align our hearts with God's will, He promises not only to guide us but also to satisfy our needs even in difficult circumstances—the "scorched land" we might face today. As Christians, we are called to embody this spirit of service and compassion. Our faith should translate into action, reflecting God's love in our community. Remember, God's guidance often comes through the Holy Spirit, who leads us to fulfill His purposes. Let us pray for the strength and clarity to follow God's leading, to be vessels of His love and provision to others.

We often find ourselves looking to leaders and governments to direct solutions for our increasingly complex problems, but what better place to look than at a problem's source. As Mexico City struggles under the yoke of a burgeoning population and ever-dwindling resources, particularly water, it may find itself at the forefront of innovation, of those sorts of grassroots efforts that eventually dictate structural change. In this case, residents of the city have long utilized creative strategies for water harvest, capture, reuse, and urban gardening, thereby reducing their reliance on government and supply chains. These everyday people simply looked at a problem and solved it, to the best of their ability, with what they had. They made resources last. And, in so doing, they fed into their own autonomy. They became proactivists in their lives, livelihoods, and the future of their beloved city. In this podcast, Tate Chamberlin hosts Enrique Lomnitz, and Gabriela Vargas Romero as they reflect on the city's resilient population, innovative regenerative solutions, and hope, in all its vibrant colors.

Episode Summary: In this episode of "Financial Advisors Say the Darndest Things," host A.B. Ridgway discusses the pervasive trend of diluting Christianity, paralleled with the commercialization of "lite" versions of various products. Drawing from Glenn Berto's book "Christianity Liked: Stop Drinking a Watered Down Gospel," Ridgway emphasizes the necessity of returning to the authentic gospel message, challenging listeners to embrace a life of grace-inspired obedience rather than seeking a comfortable, customized faith experience.Key Takeaways:The Deceptive Allure of Christianity Lite: Ridgway highlights how modern Christians often gravitate towards a diluted version of Christianity, seeking comfort and convenience over true spiritual transformation.Embracing Radical Transformation: The episode underscores the core message of the gospel – Jesus' call to radical life change and obedience, rather than mere enhancement of a self-centered lifestyle.Addressing Uncomfortable Truths: Ridgway encourages listeners to confront uncomfortable truths rather than succumbing to the allure of a superficial faith experience, emphasizing the importance of authentic repentance and obedience.Parody and Cultural Commentary: Through a humorous skit parodying the concept of "Christianity Lite," the episode critiques societal attitudes towards faith and challenges listeners to reevaluate their commitment to genuine Christianity.Warning Against Spiritual Compromise: The episode concludes with a sobering reminder of the potential consequences of embracing a watered-down faith, urging listeners to reject compromise and embrace the transformative power of the true gospel.Quotes:"We have watered down, decaffeinated, and diluted the message of the gospel until it really has no effect on our lives or the lives of others.""If the gospel of God makes someone uncomfortable, then maybe they aren't doing the right thing, and making them feel better will not fix the problem.""One of the biggest tricks of the devil is to convince you that the evil things that you do are actually good for you."
