Can the deep pain and division of racism ever be healed? And does the Christian faith play any role in the work of racial reconciliation? Pastor Derwin Gray believes that if we rightly understand the message of grace through Jesus, we will see the image of God across all races and cultures, and embrace and promote a culture of love instead of a culture of hate. In this special episode Pastor Derwin Gray of Transformation Church has a discussion with Shay and Lynn about the history of racism in America, its lasting impact, and the current need for ongoing reconciliation. Derwin's book, How to Heal Our Racial Divide, proposes that “racial reconciliation is God's idea”, and that the church should be a place that “isn't colorblind, but color-blessed.” This conversation covers topics like: The significance of Martin Luther King Jr. and his powerful writings The challenge of overcoming indifference and opposition to reconciliation How racial trauma manifests in different generations Teaching people to be "unoffendable in the gospel" Encouragement for Christians to extend grace in difficult conversations. Although the church should be a natural place for racial healing to occur, the reality is that barriers such as pride, fear, power and economics often prevent the church from taking the risk to love others when the cost seems too high. We appreciate Pastor Gray's passion and insights on this important topic, as he calls us to see the beauty of diversity as part of God's design and highlights the role we can play in helping people heal from racial trauma through empathy, compassion and understanding. What comes to your mind when you hear the word, "humility"? Do you think doormat, walk over, self-deprecation, or strength, wisdom, boundaries, and peace? Humility can be a tough subject to tackle, but today we have the perfect duo to walk us through the connection between humility and peace: Guest Host, Esau McCaulley, and Dr. Joel Muddamalle. Esau is a long time friend of The Happy Hour and has provided us with incredible conversations around his books, Reading While Black and How Far to the Promised Land. Esau is an author and associate professor of New Testament at Wheaton College. His writing and speaking focus on New Testament theology, African American Biblical interpretation, and Christian public theology. His book Reading While Black: African American Biblical Interpretation as an Exercise in Hope won numerous awards, including Christianity Today's book of the year. Esau is a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times. His writings have also appeared in places such as The Atlantic, Washington Post, and Christianity Today.Joel serves as the Director of Theology and Research for Proverbs 31 Ministries and Lysa TerKeurst, and is a part of the preaching team at Transformation Church with Pastor Derwin Gray. Joel earned a PhD in Theology under Drs. Patrick Schreiner (NT) and Michael Heiser (OT) with an emphasis on Paul's household language in Ephesians as it relates to the Old Testament. He loves studying and teaching the brilliant truths found in Scripture and unpacking how they relate to our everyday lives.Whether we've incorrectly defined humility or underestimated its relevance to our daily life, we believe humility is the missing piece for the security, strength and confidence we all want. It's time to stop trying so hard to avoid our limitations or overcompensate for them. God has better for us and it begins with bowing low in humility! Thanks for listening and sharing this episode with a friend! Joel and I discuss the topic of his Ph.D. dissertation, which examines the multiethnic nature of "household" imagery, especially Ephesians 2:19-22. We look at the Genesis 10-11 and Deuteronomy 32 background to this passage, along with how Acts 2 relates to Babel. We then talk about contemporary challenges to continuing building God's multiethnic temple in American society. Joel serves as the Director of Theology and Research for Proverbs 31 Ministries and Lysa TerKeurst, and is a part of the preaching team at Transformation Church with Pastor Derwin Gray. Joel earned a PhD in Theology under Drs. Patrick Schreiner (NT) and Michael Heiser (OT) with an emphasis on Paul's household language in Ephesians as it relates to the Old Testament. He loves studying and teaching the brilliant truths found in Scripture and unpacking how they relate to our everyday lives.
In today's episode Heather visits with one of her favorite theologians, Joel Muddamalle, for an energetic and insightful conversation about God's original vision for the church and how we often miss it. Joel unpacks what it means to be ambassadors for Christ in a fragmented world; he cautions us against letting social media divide our souls; and he reminds us that ethnic and cultural diversity in the church is a feature, not a bug. One of the big points Joel touches on is what he calls our commitment to “the sacred-and-secular divide.” What does it mean to be set apart as Christians, and what is our role in secular spaces? Joel's biblically rooted perspectives will inform, surprise, and challenge you to delve deeper into God's Word. (This is the second conversation in a three-part series that began with “What You May Be Getting Wrong About Biblical Womanhood.”) We also visit with our favorite social media whiz Brady Shearer for this week's #Blessed. He gives us a breakdown of the difference between the social graph algorithm vs. the discovery algorithm and why he believes we all need to ride whatever wave social platforms present us with. Brady is the director of Pro Church Tools and the church-software platform Nucleus. His work focuses on helping churches navigate the biggest communication shift in 500 years. How do we heal the racial divisions in our country. The good news is the Bible has a lot to say about this. Ed Stetzer sits down with former NFL player and Pastor Derwin Gray to walk us through scripture, showing us how to straddle the hurdles and challenges to reconciliation that Scripture commands.
3 VERDADES DEL EVANGELIO - Pastor DERWIN GRAY (en inglés) by ICONO
On Daily Faith, to help us deal with the matters of our hearts is Pastor Derwin Gray. He is the co-founder and Lead Pastor of Transformation Church, Indian Land, SC. Transformation Church is a multi-ethnic and multi-generational, community-driven church whose heart is to see the love of Jesus transforms lives and communities through His grace. Recently, with the racial division, social injustice, and lack of compassion plaguing America and our world, Pastor Derwin has been blessed to see beyond the social rifts of our society with eyes of understanding. By exposing the sinful nature of the world and sharing how the love of Jesus can bring social reconciliation, he has written a new book entitled, How To Heal Our Racial Divide. The world is crying out for attention and love; people want to be accepted and not criticized. Jesus came to expose sin, call our hearts to repentance, and be transformed by the living word of God. This is not for self-gain, it's intended to share one another's burdens, and in doing so, we unite as one body for the Kingdom of God. When our vertical relationship with Jesus is intact, this enables our horizontal fellowship with others. You can start today by showing a true act of justice; loving your neighbor—the kind of justice we need to see in the world. For more information about Transformation Church, you can visit www.transformationchurc.tc, and to get your copy of Pastor Derwin Gray's latest book, How To Heal Our Racial Divide, please visit www.howtohealourracialdivide.com. The Orphans Hands is the heartbeat of our mission's work in Eastern Europe. We have a village of homes in Moldova and a house in Odessa, Ukraine. Our homes take in and care for the needs of those unwanted and deemed unworthy by their family and society. In Moldova, many children are forced out of their homes, abandoned, and alone, now orphaned with no place to call home. They grow up in an orphanage with no one to love them and share a hug. At the age of sixteen, they are kicked out of the orphanage, subject to the false hopes and lies of the human traffickers. Society doesn't care for them as they struggle to find their way amid the racial divide. The Orphans Hands homes share the love of Jesus, which enables them to discover hope and unity within the body of Christ. They are now sons and daughters, turned missionaries reaching beyond the world's grasp to help those in need. We are proud to announce that recently, a few of our kids have furthered their education amid the most challenging times of the Russian war on Ukraine, graduating with honors to become teachers, psychologists, and doctors. Our kids are ministering daily to the Ukrainian refugees with food, blankets, and Bibles with the love of Jesus. To learn how you can help support the next convoy of supplies through the Orphans Hands ministry, please visit www.theorphashands.org.
“It is impossible to say that we love God without a growing awareness of loving our neighbors as we love ourselves because God first loved us.”Today's conversation is with Pastor Derwin Gray, and we are talking about what it truly means to love your neighbor as yourself. Not just the ones who are part of our everyday lives, but also those whom we may disagree with, those who look different than us, and those whom we may not know (or may never come to know). This conversation is rich in knowledge, and filled with SCRIPTURE and PRACTICAL ways that we can love our neighbors everywhere, all around the world. There is so much opportunity to self reflect and to learn as you listen. I hope you enjoy this conversation and that it helps you to love God and your neighbors more.Be sure to check out Pastor Derwin Gray's new book “How to Heal our Nation Divide”. As we dive into this Summer Series, we have the privilege of hearing from some of our favorite Pastors and leaders from around the country as our Pastor takes time to rest, seek God, and recharge for the coming year. Have you ever gone through seasons where you want to believe that God is good, but your circumstances are telling you that He's not? This conversation is for you.My guest for today's episode is Alexandra Hoover. Alexandra is a sought-out speaker, Bible teacher, and Author of "Eyes Up" How To Trust God's Heart by Tracing His Hand. She's passionate about communicating the gospel's beauty and hope, and her words spur people on to hope and healing. Also, she serves on staff at Transformation Church with Pastor Derwin Gray!Friends, there is way too much goodness in this conversation - I truly could have spent hours talking to Alexandra. She walks us through what an ebenezer is, and the beautiful biblical story of Hannah. Alexandra also dives into how we sometimes allow our circumstances to inform the way we see God. But here's the solution: When we sit with God, we begin to trust God. Even if we don't see hope, we know hope is near because we know who God is. We don't always feel or see God in the way that we want because life is so hard and foggy, but we have a beautiful invitation to sit with Him and weep with Him and be reminded of His goodness.Connect with JamieFacebook // Twitter // Instagram // YouTubeGET ALL THE LINKS FROM THE SHOW HERE
In a world so broken, it is no wonder that division can be seen everywhere, even within the walls of the Church. The past few years especially have shone a light on how pervasive the sin of racism still exists to this day within our communities and within the body of Christ. Through his own personal experiences and his study of God's word, former NFL player turned pastor, Derwin Gray, has a vision for how healing can come where there is so much pain when it comes to the topic of race. The early Church proves that God's desire for His people is diversity and healing our divides is possible through the power of Christ's resurrection. Davey talks with Pastor Derwin Gray about what it looks like to heal our racial divide, encouragement for those who have experienced racial trauma, how to deal with the sin of racism in our hearts and a hope for a future in which we all see the beauty in God's design. Let this conversation embolden you to become an agent of change in your church, your community, and your home. Welcome to the Transforming the Church podcast. In today's episode, we'll be highlighting how to stop seeking approval from people because we have already been approved by God. We often see ourselves and form an identity based on our performance: EGO or self-loathing. It's time that we love ourselves correctly by believing and seeing ourselves as God sees us. How we see ourselves determines our habits and our habits establish our lives. So instead we get to love ourselves correctly. Let's listen in with our co-hosts, Pastor Derwin Gray and Alexandra Hoover. Alexandra: Our soul tattoo this week is this - Love yourself correctly by seeing yourself the way God sees you.
Episode 3 | It's time for different | Overcoming shame. Welcome to the Transforming the Church podcast. It's season 2 and we're talking all about how it's time for different. In this episode, our co-hosts will discuss “overcoming shame.” If you struggle with guilt and shame, we want you to experience the love and transformation found in Jesus. Our co-hosts have an honest and vulnerable conversation about how to heal from shame. And now here are your hosts of the podcast, Alexandra Hoover and Pastor Derwin Gray. Our soul tattoo this week is this - See and believe what God sees and believes about you.
Welcome to the Transforming the Church podcast. This season we're talking all about how it's time for different. In this episode we're asking the question, “Does God love me?” So many wonder if God loves them. What does God's love look like? What does it mean for me? How does it transform my life? If you have questions about God's love for you, listen in with our co-hosts Alexandra Hoover and Pastor Derwin Gray. Our soul tattoo this week is this – Remember that we love God because He loved us first. Jesus came down to love us in our despair, in our brokenness, in our rejection.

Racial tension is at a high point. The embodiment of the Kingdom found in the New Testament and lived out through the Church was to be a vision of unity and diversity. The Church in America, unfortunately, has remained one of the most segregated organizations instead of being a vision for unity and diversity. Pastor Derwin Gray and Transformation Church is a shining light of how the Church can be the type of diverse community it was intended to be. Hear about Pastor Derwin's journey of planting Transformation Church, the challenges they faced from being a multiethnic church, and the steps any church can take to become a richer expression of the diverse Kingdom of God. On Daily Faith, our special guest bringing you a timely word from heaven is Pastor Derwin Gray. Pastor Derwin Gray co-founded Transformation Church eleven years ago in Indian Land, SC, serving as the Lead Pastor. Transformation Church is a multi-ethnic and multi-generational church. Today, Pastor Gray would like to help you discover that God is relational, and He longs to share His heart with you. There may be times when we feel distant from the Lord in our prayers, although we may be the ones who have stopped crying out to Him in our circumstances. God is faithful, and He keeps His promises never to leave us nor forsake us. Pastor Gray recently released his new book entitled God, do you hear me? He explains the importance and power of prayer in our daily walk with Jesus through the Lord's Prayer in the scriptures. Prayer isn't about making a checklist for God to write off and for you to go about your day. Daily prayer in a believer's life is for God to get to know you through a relationship with Him as your loving heavenly Father. As Pastor Derwin walks us through these steps of understanding, we pray that your heart will be open to receiving the free gift of God's Kingdom for your life and that your heart will take comfort knowing the Father's love surrounds you. The Orphans Hands ministry has helped save and rescue hopeless and forgotten children in Moldova and Ukraine for the past thirty years. We have seen countless tired feet and weary hearts find rest and joy by the comfort of the Father's love. In Moldova, many of their young children grow up in orphanages, never receiving a hug or getting to know the love of a family. These orphanages tell them no one loves them, and they will never amount to anything in life. When they become of age, they are forced out onto the streets, where they fall, subject to the terrifying risks of human trafficking. We have a village of homes in Moldova called Vatra Village and a house in Ukraine; the lives of these children are being transformed and renewed by the power of God's mercy and grace. Our kids have experienced how important the power of prayer is in their lives. By accepting their heavenly Father's love, they are reaching out to meet the needs of other tired feet for God's Kingdom. Pastor Derwin Gray teaches on how Jesus is the poor King. Throughout Scripture, we are reminded that material wealth is fleeting and that true wealth is found in the person of Jesus. As we follow Him, we become rich in Christ.
In this sermon, Pastor Derwin Gray teaches us how Jesus is the rule-breaking King. Following Jesus will often mean deviating from the norm and behaving counter-culturally. Jesus is not hindered by ethnic, gender, or class barriers, and He invites us to embody His mission as we follow Him.
Pastor Derwin Gray brings a message on how King Jesus befriends the friendless and cares for outcasts and sinners. In His kindness, Jesus invites the unqualified to live on mission with Him and embody His Kingdom.
In this message, Pastor Derwin Gray talks about Jesus’ role as the rejected King. Jesus was refused by the people whom He came to save, but because of the rejection He experienced, we can be accepted as children of God.
Pastor Derwin Gray begins our series, A Paradox of Hope, with a message on Jesus' paradoxical roles as both servant and king. Through Christ, we are invited to participate in His Kingdom with humility as we follow His example.

In this episode, Steve Carter interviews Pastor Derwin Gray about the importance of personal discipleship, intimacy with Christ, and helping people truly discover what the gospel is all about. Derwin dives into everything from discipleship vs. leadership in the Bible, and how the church has forsaken one for the other, to the most pastoral and compelling way one can experience deep intimacy (or “into-me-you-see”) with Christ.
After graduating from Brigham Young University, Derwin played professional football in the NFL for five years with the Indianapolis Colts (1993-1997) and one year with the Carolina Panthers (1998). During that time, he and Vicki began their journey with Christ and experienced God’s faithfulness and direction as He moved their hearts to know Him and make Him known. Derwin and Vicki began an itinerant speaking ministry in 1999, One Heart At A Time Ministries. Derwin went on to graduate magna cum laude from Southern Evangelical Seminary with a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree, with a concentration in Apologetics, where he was mentored by renowned theologian and philosopher, Dr. Norman Geisler. Following God’s call on their lives and their desire to shepherd people towards transforming their world through the mission of Christ, the Lord transitioned Derwin from his primary role of itinerant speaker to serving as the Lead Pastor of Transformation Church in January of 2010. Coupling his dynamic speaking style with a shepherd’s heart, his intense passion for seeing lives and culture transformed is both contagious and inspiring. In 2015, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from Southern Evangelical Seminary. In 2018, he received his Doctor of Ministry in the New Testament in Context at Northern Seminary under Dr. Scot McNight. In addition to his role at Transformation Church, Derwin teaches at conferences nationwide. He is the author of Hero: Unleashing God’s Power in a Man’s Heart (2010), Limitless Life: You Are More Than Your Past When God Holds Your Future (2013), Crazy Grace for Crazy Times Bible Study (2015), The High-Definition Leader (2015), and The Good Life: What Jesus Teaches About Finding True Happiness (2020).

How can we have peace on earth when our newspapers are riddled with stories that indicate a complete lack of peace in our society? We often unconsciously gravitate toward a cozy environment so we don’t have to deal with the discomfort of reconciling with people that aren’t like us or don’t fit in. Pastor Derwin Gray, lead pastor of Transformation Church and author of The HD Leader, teaches how to bring peace through reconciling with others. You will learn how the gospel can turn enemies into friends and how you can be transformed into a peacemaker — becoming part of the process to bring healing and reconciliation.
