Yes, you read that right: we're learning how to make enemies (and why it's valuable for brands to do this!). Today, Michelle is joined by Swedish design mavens Freddie Ost and Erik Kokum as they discuss working with perfect clients, pushing creative boundaries, and creating viral campaigns. We are back for another great interview on our podcast on how to unlock your world of creativity. Our guests today join us on our around-the-world journey where we talk to creative practitioners about how they get inspired and how they organize ideas. And most of all, how they gain the confidence and the connections to launch their work out into the world. Today we have the pleasure to  travel to one of my favorite cities in the world, Stockholm, Sweden, to have a chat with Fredrik and https://www.linkedin.com/in/erik-kockum-710b9829/ (Erik) of the https://snask.com (SNASK) agency SNASK is an internationally renowned creative agency that makes kick-ass branding, design & film. So much so that some of their clients have described them as “Disneyland for graphic designers.” They are a different kind of company they also describe themselves as a creative agency of misfit geniuses conquering the world through fine-looking design and real emotions. Often reminding their clients that they are their client's future romance. A few tips that they share with us that all hold steady to their stellar performance in their industry are: Passion as a creative is very important. Build a team around you that is equally passionate about what they do. It makes it easier for them to show up. They remind us that when people have a creative passion they do not come to work at 10:00 A.M. They get up early and go after it.  We should not be afraid to stand out in the world no matter what our craft is. And it is ok to be bold and colorful even as a  brand agency in a Minimalistic place like Stockholm  Remember to have a balance of both work and fun in order to thrive. In a  professional world built on conservative ideas and frameworks and structures, one look at their website and you will immediately notice that their work is very emotional. It's very provocative. It's very colorful and energetic. Which has made them stand out as an agency over the years which in fact gave them the creative consistency they needed to stand out in the industry. In conclusion, they also give us some insight into, pitching the work and how to convince the client which campaign to go with. Both Erik and https://my.captivate.fm/linkedin.com/in/snask (Fredrik) agree that it's all about taking the client by the hand and leading them through the process. Like you lead someone to the dance floor. You can't just throw a new design in their face without an explanation. You need to take them on a journey on the thought behind the strategy, and how it connects with the brand. And then make sure that this makes a lot of sense to them as much as it does make sense to you as the pitcher. You can find more information about this agency of misfit geniuses on their website https://snask.com (https://snask.com)   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/snasksthlm/ (snasksthlm) Frederik Öst's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/freddiemeup/ (freddiemeup) Erik Kockum's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fessus/ (fessus)   Meet partners in crime - Fredrik Öst and Erik Kockum, Branding Experts with vulnerability and anti-machismo.  First off, let me tell you a little about who Fredrik Öst & Erik Kockum are… "Freddie" was adopted from South Korea and raised in Northern Sweden after being found outside a police station. Erik is a confused and misunderstood misfit genius who believes that the feeling of freedom and allowance of making mistakes is the key to creativity. Fedrick and Erik have co-founded a kick-ass creative agency, combining their expertise in branding, design & film. This of course after being told they needed 10 years of experience in the industry before starting their own agency. They ditched the norms and started uphttps://snask.com/ ( Snask) with zero years of experience 14 years ago!  https://snask.com/ (Snask) is a rare combination of real emotions and playfulness. I've always liked to recommend to young designers is that you start your career working in a design agency before going freelance or starting your own design agency, that way you can see how things work and learn from others. But the founders of SNASK have challenged that. Since the very beginning of their agency, which they started straight out of uni, they've set out to challenge the standard industry way of doing things, and have aimed to do things differently… to do it the SNASK way. In this interview Ian speaks to Fredrik Öst & Erik Kockum to discover how the agency SNASK started, and the journey taken to create a unique design agency. This episode is sponsored by The Perfect Match, a game where designers submit mood boards created using Adobe Stock assets. If your skilful project is chosen, you will be featured on Adobe's monthly live streaming game show with other talented designers, art directors, and creatives, where the winner goes home with $1000!

Highlights from the conversation:I think that everything is a remix of something else. So we love to see when other agencies are similar to us because it only means that there are more people believing. So they come to us with a brief — we always rewrite it. Most of the time, we make them realise that what you think you need is not what you need, or maybe that comes in stage three.Companies love data these days. It's always like — Oh, it's gonna tell us the truth. But look at your marriage— do you want to use data for changing your marriage?People in companies are afraid of making enemies with consumers. And they want fans. But they don't understand that in order to get fans you need enemies because you need to stand up for something. And when you stand up for something that you believe in, whether it's your private person or company, you will get enemies. But you will get the right kind of enemies, enemies that you don't want as fans anyway. So, the thing for us is that if someone has a low budget, we demand creative freedom, we demand only one [revert].It's super important that brands have opinions and stand up for them — as important as it is for private individuals to also have opinions voiced and publicly allowed. I think that it's the new era, and brands need to start caring, for real, about sustainability, people — employees, everyone — and I think that there's no shortcut, it's just start doing it now and you won't have so much work to do later. More about SNASK SNASK is your future romance. Musik: Raske Penge & Klumben + Mads Julius Dyrst. Quiz'en leveres af Danskfodbold.com. In this episode I talk with Fredrik Öst, founder of Snask, one of my favorite branding agencies. We talk about creating brands that make enemies and gain fans. Bio: "Freddie" was adopted to Sweden after being found outside a police station where he lived for 6 months. In the army they found out his heart is twisted backwards and an EKG will read it as if he’s dead. His love for design began with a job he took on creating posters and cover art for a local record label. After being told that they needed 10 years of experience him and his co-founders started up Snask with zero years of experience. The Snask team still see the “old conservative world” as their biggest enemy. We talk about: The story behind Snask Building bold brands How they create a brand strategy for brands How Snask creates a culture of trust and creativity How to go beyond the 'BS' in client meetings The Shower beer project
