Po smrti Jiřího Bartošky se Karlovarský filmový festival ocitl na historickém rozcestí. Jeho dlouholetý výkonný ředitel Kryštof Mucha a partner festivalu Jan Jírovec z investiční skupiny Rockaway Art byli hosty Dalibora Balšínka.„Jiří Bartoška se nahradit nedá. Byl prezidentem, který festival přetvořil, přenesl ho do nové éry a my teď máme za úkol pokračovat v tom, co vybudoval,“ říká Mucha a popisuje tenkou hranici mezi přátelstvím s Bartoškou a jeho prací pro něj: „My jsme se s ním spřátelili, jezdili spolu na dovolené, trávili čas i mimo práci. Ale pořád jsem mu vykal. Cítil jsem, že to tak má být. Byl to můj šéf, můj přítel i autorita,“ dodává.Jan Jírovec z Rockaway Art, která do festivalu vstoupila v roce 2021, přiznává, že přesvědčit Bartošku ke spolupráci nebylo jednoduché. „Kdo ho znal, ví, že to nebylo snadné. Byla to věc důvěry a času. Potkali jsme se díky sponzorství přes Kryštofa a nakonec jsme se stali součástí festivalové rodiny. Jirka měl obrovský cit pro lidi, dokázal poznat, jestli to myslíte vážně,“ vzpomíná Jírovec.Rockaway Art dnes zastřešuje i festival Colours of Ostrava a pražský Designblok. „Není to běžná investice. Je to hodně osobní a vztahová věc. Náš cíl není festivaly měnit, ale rozvíjet. Každý z nich má vlastní duši a tradici. My se snažíme dát jim zázemí a jistotu,“ dodává.

Po více než čtvrtstoletí existence a roce jednání do festivalu Designblok vstoupil fond Rockaway Capital. Jak je možné skloubit svět umění se světem investic? O tom jsme mluvili s šéfkou festivalu Janou Zielinski a investičním partnerem skupiny Rockaway Janem Jírovcem. Designblok, druhý nejstarší festival svého druhu na světě, je důkazem, že český design má co nabídnout i v mezinárodním měřítku. „To, co dnes považujeme za starožitnosti, bylo tehdy designem na nejvyšší úrovni,“ vysvětluje v rozhovoru šéfka festivalu Designblok Jana Zielinski, v čem spočívá význam investování do umění. Festival se vstupem investorů stal součástí skupiny Rockaway Arts společně s MFF KV a Colours of Ostrava. „Byla to tradiční, netradiční investice,“ říká v podcastu investiční partner Jan Jírovec z Rockaway.

But it is the Arabic version, adapted from Middle Persian by the eighth-century scholar Ibn al-Muqaffa, that has left the most substantial literary footprint. A foundational text of classical Arabic prose and the basis for translations into Hebrew, Syriac, Castilian, Latin, Persian, and more, versions of Kalila and Dimna exists in hundreds of manuscript copies held in libraries around the world. Kalila and Dimna is the focus of Isabel Toral and Beatrice Gruendler's new work An Unruly Classic: Kalīla and Dimna and Its Syriac, Arabic, and Early Persian Versions (Brill: 2024). In this collected volume, members of the Kalila and Dimna project discuss, from different perspectives, a core aspect of their work with this textual tradition: the study of variation and mutability. The aim is to shed light on Kalila and Dimna's so-called mouvance and establish typologies of textual mobility and instability across linguistic traditions and historical periods, as well as to develop analytical tools to describe, classify, represent, and interpret these dynamics. As will be shown, the progressive digitalization of philology in the last decades has offered the unique opportunity of putting the concept of mouvance into practice. Contributors include Theodore S. As Alma mentored his sons in teaching the gospel, he counseled them not only to cultivate qualities such as diligence, temperance, humility, and self-reflection, but to also use “boldness, but not overbearance” (Alma 38:12) as part of their approach. The words boldness, bold, and boldly are used twenty-seven times throughout the Book Mormon, primarily to indicate that a person, or a group of people, have spoken or acted with “courage, daring, fearlessness; confidence, assurance, [and] security” (Oxford English Dictionary Online, OED). On the other hand, overbearance is used only once and seems to mean “to overcome, put down, or repress, as by power, authority, influence, or emotional pressure” (OED). In this episode, Dr. Jan J. Martin, associate professor of ancient scripture, discusses Alma's stylistic teaching advice given to his son Shiblon. She highlights two critical areas of Alma's methodology: the origin of his prophetic and fatherly counsel for teaching the gospel and his practice of leaning into the Holy Ghost for inspiration on what and how to teach.
