This week, Jamelle Bouie sits in for Dana as the panel begins by reviewing She Said, the new film about investigating the Harvey Weinstein story. Then, a discussion about the Hulu limited series Fleishman is in Trouble. Finally, they chat about the auction of Joan Didion's private items. In Slate Plus, the panel talks to the very online Jamelle Bouie about the recent wild weeks of Twitter. Email us at culturefest@slate.com. Endorsements Jamelle: The Criteron release of Spike Lee's Malcolm X. Biopics have fallen out of style for the most part. I rewatched it last year and I came away struck not just by the sheer ambition of it, but the extent to which it is such a love letter to classic Hollywood. Julia: My endorsement is episode 10 of Andor. It's a great episode in a bunch of ways, but also the episode ends with an incredible monologue by Stellan Sarsgaard. It's an incredible piece of writing and performance. Steve: I like this song. I don't know much about it, but a friend sent it to me. It's Super Rich Kids and it's a cover of a Frank Ocean song. This version is from Trio SR9 featuring Malik Djoudi Podcast production by Cameron Drews. Production assistance by Yesica Balderrama. Outro music is "Did I Make You Wait" by Staffan Carlen. What better way to propel us to record another episode than having 10+ billionaire owners announce that they're planning to start their own (and super) league so they can make money off of all of us without FIFA and UEFA in the way? We also have to push Jose Mourinho getting sacked a week before he can bring a trophy to Tottenham and Ed Woodward announcing his retirement at season's end to the back burner because this week is HOT. Thanks for listening this season and if you rate us 5 stars and roast us in the comments, we'll be sure to read it on-air. In this episode, a high school friend, Kenzie, and I discuss what it was like growing up in a very privileged and materialistic "bubble" and not "fitting into" that bubble. We were the outcasts, the wild children, the weird ones...and we always did things unconventionally. As teens, this played out as promiscuity, exploration in drugs, and other typical risque teenage behaviors...but as we grew older, we found ourselves aligning paths yet again, but this time, on a completely different path than before. We went from trying to "Keep Up with the Joneses" in the upper middle class suburb of Dallas, Texas that we grew up in...to completely turning away from the way we were raised and returning back to nature and Home to ourselves. We talk about our Spiritual Awakening process and what that looked like even through our upbringing and explore the dichotomy of our capitalistic, superficial upbringing in contrast to our now, wholesome, abundant and spirit filled lives that are filled with adventure, synchronicities, magic, and a whole lot of wild alchemical transformation. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
On this week's episode of Auxoro: The Voice Of Music, we sat down with R.LUM.R. A man of many influences, he has explored sounds from Porter Robinson and Linkin Park to Fleet Foxes and Anita Baker. As R.LUM.R says, “No one exists who is not the sum of all of their influences.” And the journey of his artistry and influences is apparent in the music that he makes. What started on six strings has evolved into a beautiful synergy of the organic, the electronic and the soul. In this episode, we discuss the power of empathy, the cloak of genre, Super Rich Kids, the isolation of tour life, and more. Going forward, Auxoro will be supporting various causes and foundations alongside the interviews that we release. This week, R.LUM.R and the Auxoro team are asking for your help in supporting two causes: The Ally Coalition, an organization that takes action for LGBTQ equality, and Music Cares, who provide a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need.
