A New Zealand Tahr hunt in the snow, lightweight mountain rifles, Finnish hunting culture, and the future of hunting in Australia with Miksu from Nokka Tactical. In this episode, Matt is joined by Miksu to relive his recent Tahr hunting adventure in the mountains of New Zealand. From snow-covered peaks and brutal climbs to the satisfaction of hunting one of the most iconic mountain game animals, Miksu shares the highs and hardships of a hunt that tested both gear and determination. The conversation covers the realities of mountain hunting, the challenges of steep terrain, and the lessons learned from spending long days in unforgiving country.Gear is a major focus of the discussion, with Miksu breaking down what performed exceptionally well and what he would change for the next trip. The boys dive into lightweight rifle setups and discuss why they're both big fans of Tikka and Sako firearms when reliability, accuracy, and weight matter most. From packs and optics to rifle configurations, there's plenty of practical insight for hunters planning their own mountain adventures.Originally from Finland and now living in Australia, Miksu also shares his perspective on the differences between hunting cultures in the two countries. The conversation explores traditions, access, attitudes toward hunting, and what makes each hunting culture unique. We also discuss his company, Nokka Tactical, which specialises in premium accessories and upgrades for Tikka rifles, along with his thoughts on where hunting in Australia may be heading in the years to come. For the latest information, news, giveaways and anything mentioned on the show, you can find all the links here.

What does "Use Enough Gun" mean? Especially when hunting elk, moose, and bison or tough game such as Tahr or feral cattle in New Zealand and Sambar Stag in Australia?  A phrase originally quoined by legendary author and hunter Robert Ruark, "Use Enough Gun" means what it says. This episode, we're joined by terminal ballistics specialist Nathan Foster, who has dedicated his life to the study of how bullets kill and what cartridges and bullets are most effective for various tasks. We examine the "small-bore for big-game" trend, and Foster explains where it began and why it's so misleading, and addresses the grim reality behind using inadequate caliber and bullet weight.  Foster's company Terminal Ballistics Research specializes in hunting applications and the cartridges and bullets best suited, but has often been tasked with performing the forensics and analysis that lead to informed decisions by special military and law enforcement branches in multiple nations. You might say he knows his stuff, and has the decades worth of research and data readily available to back up the wisdom he imparts.    FRIENDS! Please join our Backcountry Hunting Podcast tribe on www.patreon.com/backcountry where you'll get access to our bonus material, and can contribute a few dollars if you wish. Povstalecká skupina Haját Tahrír al-Šám (HTS), která svrhla syrský režim Bašára Asada, zřídila v Damašku prozatímní vládu a představila své dlouhodobé plány včetně vypracování ústavy a uspořádání voleb.

Reálně území Sýrie ovládá pět sil – Kurdové, Islamisté, Turci, skupina Tahrír al-Šám a tzv. jižní operační centrum, tvořené částečně arabskými a sunnitskými milicemi a částečně drúzi – a poměrně významnou roli hraje Izrael. I to jsme společně probrali. Poslechněte si.

Here's the second half of our recent adventure in New Zealand... DIY on public land, in pursuit of chamois in the Southern Alps. Steep country, incessant rain, and low visiblity all were against us but hard hunting paid off and we each brought home a great chamois buck.  Recorded on a small portable mic, hunkered in or beside a tent in alpine country, this episode is about as raw and real as they come... We tell our hunt stories, talk about what gear did and didn't work, and about the backcountry hunting skills and techniques learned hunting public land in America's West that helped us succeed.
