They cut a couple records on their own, before getting signed to Terry Knight's Brown Bag label. These records did not have much impact, and the band broke up for a while. In 1975 or thereabouts original Wild Cherry leader Rob Parissi recruited some musicians from the Pittsburgh area, and started a new Wild Cherry. This band tried to crack the rock clubs, but in the time since the original band's breakup, musical tastes, and clubs were changing to more dance music. Parissi wrote a song from experience called "Play that Funky Music", and in doing so, the band followed their lead and became a funk/disco/dance band. Episode 28 Grand Funk Railroad sprang up in 1966 from Don Brewer’s band The Jazz Masters. A former Disc jockey, who wanted to be a singer in a rock and roll band approached Don one night after a gig and not only talked his way into the band but also got them to rename the band to Terry Knight and the Pack. He got his way because he could get gigs. Soon Mark Farner joined as a bass player. 

"Hipsters, Flipsters and Finger Poppin' Daddies.....knock me your lobes..."This weeks episode is the harbinger of what's comin' down the pike, brothers and sisters..It's almost like Frank Zappa was a friggin' prophet! ... to some he was. From 1966's FREAK OUT! "Trouble comin' everyday....and while on the subject Young Jessie is a piece of work, don't you think?..."Don't think I will" indeed. Terry Knight & the Pack with a pimply faced, pre-pubescent Mark Farner on guitar counts it down with "Numbers"Hawkwind's early daze are some of my most cherished of theirs...I know, I know...the Lemmy Era Hawkwind can't be 'beat' but I'm spinnin' from 1969 with "Hurry up sundown". Not to be outdone Joe McCoy and the Harlem Hamfats sing an ode to Memphis Minnie: "Hoodooin' Woman". Jersey City's Black Hollies lay down a garage groove for Johnette Napolitano to bare her soul with the uber-cool "True to this".....Before all you cats get your shorts in a knot I'm thinkin' Sister Johnette isn't playin' on our team.....if you get my drift....dig?Speakin' of diggin....Bo Diddley shovels out a dirty beat via "The Twister" before Bill Wyman produced The End puts the last nail in the requiem as the DRR Show sets its sites for the finish line.
