Conflict. You either stir it up or avoid it. But few of us know how to move through it well. What if we told you that conflict is a necessary ingredient for healthy relationships?   Jeff and Terra Mattson interview Jay Payleitner with a focus on his most recent book, "Don't Take the Bait to Escalate: Conflict is Inevitable. Being a Jerk is Optional." Jay unpacks four factors anyone can use to help de-escalate a conflict. From marriage to work relationships, this conversation applies to everyday issues. From which peanut butter to buy, to bigger challenges, like when it's time to walk away from a toxic relationship, Jay uses biblical clarity and forty decades of marriage and relationship ministry to offer us a reframe on how conflict plays an important role in our lives.   Jay Payleitner is one of the top freelance producers for Christian radio and a long-time affiliate of the National Center for Fathering and Iron Sharpens Iron. In the world we live in, it can be hard to find the time to spend with our kids.  Mom and dad guilt is high and relationships and health can get strained.  Here are 7 things your kids need to hear you say:"As long as you did your best."  Winning isn't everything and failures are a part of life.  It's nothing to get stressed out about - just reassure them that they did the best they could with the resources they had at the time.  It's not a label for their entire life."I love you." Saying the words out loud mean more than any toy, gift, or game.  Expressions of love such as a hug releases the hormone oxytocin, which immediately reduces stress and can override fears and pain."Be yourself. The people will change around you." Being yourself means that you do, say, and act according to what is important to you. The local and global community around us is always changing."I'm proud of you."  No matter how the day goes, they need to know that they have your support.  "Be clear on what you value." Let them know that being clear on what they value will help them in any situation to make the best decision for them."Love starts with love itself."  This is the old adage that you can't pour from an empty cup.  If you don't feel love, you can't give or receive love.  Loving yourself creates a bond with the one person who's guaranteed to always be there for you: you.  The security that comes with high self worth helps to support all 3 areas of the brain, especially during the critical early years of development."No problem is too embarrassing. I'm here to help." Shame and guilt in children can carry into adulthood.  They need to know that you're in their corner, no matter what.A wise man once said, "It's not about getting it right. It's about getting it started." Thanks, Benjamin J. Harvey. Try one or two of these at first, in writing if the situation warrants it, then build on that.  It will only take a few moments out of your day but it can make a lifetime's worth of difference.Connect with Magic:A Magical Life Podcast on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/amagicallifepodcast/On Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wholisticnaturalhealth/Online: https://wholisticnaturalhealth.com.auSupport the show (https://www.amazon.com/Stop-being-FAT-achieving-permanent-ebook/dp/B00PS9F9UO/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=stop+being+fat+love+yourself+skinny&qid=1627427882&sr=8-3)

Sunday, June 3, 2018, #47 Education Leadership & Beyond, "The Greatest Showman" with guests Tessa & Matthew Marotta. Education Leadership and Beyond: Surviving & Thriving with Andrew Marotta. Super excited to have on my too younger children on the show: Matthew 11 & Tessa Marotta 7. They watch Dad each week on the podcast and it was finally their turn! They are both fun loving, bright kids. My family is so blessed to have such great children along with their big sister Claire. Shout out to their teachers at Shohola Elementary in Milford, PA: Mr. Justin Bowman is Tessa's 1st grade teacher and Mrs. Ann Fagan is Matthew’s 3rd grade teacher. Both are fantastic educators for my children and the children of our community. They challenge them, engage them, and help them love to learn. #greatteachers! Happy birthday Tessa & Matthew! One of our family traditions is Friday night pizza and movie. We love to just chil-lax and watch a great movie together as a family. Now that the kids are getting older, there are more top movies we can watch together. A few weeks ago, we selected the Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman. It highlights the story of PT Barnum and his rise and fall and rise up again to fame and glory. He was a dreamer, and innovation, and someone who brought out the best in others. As soon as the movie was over, I jotted down some thoughts about the movie—life lessons from the movie that we could all use to make us better—make us believe more in ourselves, and reach for things and places we never dreamed possible: 1. Chase your dreams. 2. Don’t be embarrassed by where you came from: PT’s Dad was a poor seamstress who did not have much. When he passed PT was homeless for a while until he worked his way to stardom. 3. Be loyal: PT picked out his staff and they went on to do great things. When, PT strayed and chased a different dream, his friends remained loyal to him and gave him another chance. 4. Don’t lose sight of your family—Keep them #1. 5. Don’t be afraid to task risks, afraid of failure: PT failed over and over in the film—he reinvented, and did it again better than the first. 6. Believe in yourself—If you don’t, then who will? 7. See the good in others. 8. There is such a thing as true love. It is a fantastic movie so I recommend spending two hours to watch it. It is time well spent!
